About Geronimo from USA: I just love great sounds

With fans like us (41,779) by Geronimo from USA
Is there another type of board on the internet where Mariah Carey fans can freely indulge in posting negative speculations, uninformed judgements, unsolicited career advice, chart-position anxiety, and accusations of a declining work ethic about Mariah on a daily basis without feeling victimized by fans who say they don't come to a "fan" site for that kind of vibe? I get the feeling that there are some folks posting on this site who want to gripe about their disappointments and expectations just as much others want to come here and express their love, dedication and admiration for Mariah. I'm sure Mariah does enough of her own self-critique and I'm sure that her label and others give her plenty of career advice and critique. A fan site, as far as I understand the genre, has a unique task and opportunity to encourage, uplift and promote an artist in a way that is different that others spaces where Mariah might be equally slammed or praised, accused or vindicated. Free speech activists have the entire world wide web to "state their opinions". Why be consistently negative on this kind of site?

BET beauty (41,732) by Geronimo from USA
I am a bit of a purist and I always want to hear Mariah's voice loud and clear without layers of backing vocals and what not in live performances. Nevertheless, after watching the other performers at the BET awards show it is clear to me what makes Mariah so legendary: her voice has a beautiful one-of-a-kind texture and she knows how to use it in the great songs she writes and produces. Even though I don't love the faux-sexy-Marilyn Monroe/Diana Ross stage act that she clearly loves and has grown into, I think her performance was simple, confident and beautiful and live. Obviously, we heard vocals and instruments that were not live on stage. But Mariah was all there and we should be proud.

Consider taking a chill pill anyway (38,715) by Geronimo from USA
I have been a fan of Mariah just before her first album came out. Her voice is her voice. It is part of her life that she has volunteered to share of her own free choice. She is an entertainer, that's it. She needs lots of rest for her voice these days according to her. She sleeps with humidifiers for the sake of her voice according to her. If you like her recordings, buy them. If you like the way she does her live shows nowadays, pay to see them. But seriously, in what world does she or any entertainer owe you or me an explanation for what we can all hear? Her voice is not a product that you own rights to so that she must report to you as to its current condition. Her voice part of her body, it is hers and she has very generously shared it, maybe even to its detriment. Your particular copies of her recordings are products that you might own, her voice is not a product.

Mariah's hospital breasts (38,682) by Geronimo from USA
I usually ignore the debate about Mariah's boobs, but I just wanted to say that they were pretty tame in the photos of her leaving the hospital in a wheelchair. That makes me think that there may really be some truth to push-up/underwire theory of ever-expanding frontiers. Just saying.

I agree with Hannah (38,643) by Geronimo from USA
Mariah is a diva and all that, but she is known for being thoughtful. I'm sure her lounging position has to do with their difference in height. As far as video budgets are concerned, I'm sure Mariah prefers to keep her fortune intact rather than spend it on commercials for singles in the era of digital sales. That's my two cents on it for what its worth.

It's Mariah Carey, she's an entertainer, get off suicide watch (38,552) by Geronimo from USA
What is a fan? What is a critic? Even though the roles overlap sometimes, is there a difference between the two? Yes. Is a fan someone who never criticizes the artist whose fan they are? Of course not. Is a critic someone who never generously praises and admires the artist(s) whose cultural contribution they are paid to assess? No. But clearly, these two are two different roles. I come to this site because it is a fan-site where admiration of and curiosity about Mariah could make up the bulk of comments and on-going conversation. When I am interested in critiques of Mariah's general cultural and commercial relevance, analyzing her vocal condition, judging whether she does or does not mime her TV performances well or at all with time cues referencing the precise second of a tell-tale hand wave or a similarity to her own recording, when I'm seeking out that kind of conversation, I do not usually seek out a fan-site. I go to YouTube. Lately, MCA is not much different. Still, I'm curious if fans who come to this site are interested in dealing with the artist that Mariah actually is right now and has been for 13 years? How much whining about irrelevant expectations can one engage in before realizing that the artist is about no more and no less than what they are doing this millennium? The first single to her album is great. There is one nice remix. The song is a worldwide success. Mariah looks great. Her album is going to be awesome. This is entertainment. Love it or leave it.

Mariah's BET intro was nice (38,496) by Geronimo from USA
Mariah's intro to #Beautiful at the BET awards tonight was awesome, just the kind of energy and beauty that made me her fan in the first place. I'm glad she put out this quality remix to go with the awesome, top quality, original. As far as recordings of #Beautiful are concerned, Mariah has given us more than what she owes us. Any other recording associated with this single is just a bonus, a throw-in or a freebie. There is nothing else to demand, as if Mariah works for us directly or is just some kind of personal product of which one of us can make demands that suit our personal needs. That would be weird. This is just entertainment. Let's enjoy it.

What's with all the neurotic whining? (38,487) by Geronimo from USA
The latest remix is just what most of us expect from Mariah. It's well-produced and fun. How funny is it that within just three days of free, thrown in there just for the fun of it remixes, some whiny fans start prophesying the end of Mariah's career, crying about getting tired of defending her (which is silly because she's a beautiful, wealthy, world famous entertainer with a happy family life who does not even know who you are) and going on about how she doesn't care about music. There is an emotional and entitled posting pattern here that just doesn't make sense. This is a fan site where everything can certainly be discussed but where perhaps not everyone posting knows how to avoid passing on sheer anxiety out of boredom. This latest remix is proof that Mariah knows what quality is and what is just a little something to throw out there while the fans wait a few days. That's really cool of her. What is not cool is whining about freebies and insulting her intelligence on her fan-site because she made the mistake of sharing a few trinkets.

The new version of#Beautiful (38,076) by Geronimo from USA
I like this version so much better than the first. This one skips those awkward motorcycle shots where she looked less than confident. Without those shots the video has a sense of humor that makes the sex play over-the-top cute rather than desperate and sad. I guess there is something to be said for restraint and focus.

Fourth of July performance (38,062) by Geronimo from USA
I am glad to hear that Mariah will be performing on the fourth. Hopefully fans will not supply the press with quotes for "naysayers section" of their reviews this time. At the same time, something tells me that this event will be spectacular, theatrical, highly controlled and heavily edited. Oh well. I'll be glad if I'm wrong on that, though.

How about those "other" great MC songs? (38,023) by Geronimo from USA
GMA was pretty funny. I'm not sure singing in the morning is her thing, but at least she had a good time. It also makes me crave an unplugged set from her again with less glam and hoopla. She has so many songs that are not hits, but that are just great songs. I wish she would dump some of the "hits" one day and try a different approach with her broader catalogue. At this point, what's she got to lose? In fact, I think it would improve her already considerable legacy.

Raw ballads (38,006) by Geronimo from USA
I'm looking forward to this album, because it seems like Mariah is having the kind of creative streak Lauryn Hill mentioned having during the making of Miseducation. I really hope, however, that by "raw" ballads she means songs that have straight-forward melodies, unobscured by ornate production and background vocal harmonies, that easily translate into powerful live performances.

Don't kill my vibe (37,973) by Geronimo from USA
Be intelligent and responsible. Make a distinction between lip-syncing and network dubbing and then get on with life. And stop killing the vibe on this board whining about what you, of all people, think Mariah Carey should be doing or sounding like at this point in her career. If you are still upset because you think, despite all evidence and eye witness reports, that Mariah Carey cannot sing anymore and cannot give an honest performance, you are not a serious person and should be quiet for a while until you can bring more intelligent conversation. Mariah Carey is a recording artist and a decent performer, not the goddess of your personal cult, Stephen.

Girls, boys and physical beauty (37,827) by Geronimo from USA
The video for #Beautiful promotes an erotic beauty, the aspect of beauty most people (myself included) associate with sexual availability which, of course, intends to provoke physical desire. That is a nice part of life, but certainly not the most interesting form of beauty nor the most stable way to sustain desire. If I had children, I would do everything that I could to make sure that they did not have to contend with digitized and professionalized sexual bodies just as they begin to construct their sexual identities. I think we are all born with sexuality, but rely on our environments to form how we see others and ourselves. Something tells me that Mariah's parents were not able to help her understand this in such a way that she could appreciate how the combination of her music's universal appeal and the more universal appeal of leather, panties, breast and buttocks might combine to frustrate those who wish to give girls and boys some time to express and experience a broader sexuality as they decide on their own time to include (or exclude) the kind of expression Mariah offered them on prime time TV.

Lambs and musicianship (37,747) by Geronimo from USA
It is too bad that more of Mariah fans that post here are not dedicated musicians. The other day I was wondering to myself why there is so much complaining on this board about things barely related to the appreciation of Mariah's music: her breasts, her clothes, the meandering speaking style, the perceived incompetence of her marketing team, Mariah's own promotional schedule, and this or that person's fatigue with defending Mariah. With all due respect to freedom of speech (however abstract in the case of comments on this board), I would like to say that those concerns get to be bizarre, ridiculous and Stan-like as they can often dominate the mood in this forum. Mariah is probably about to earn her 19th no. 1 single and that is great. But, reading this forum might lead an alien from outer space to think that many posters here are actually shareholders in a corporation that fear that Mariah's career is about to be over before it starts because she put out some songs to which the "public" was indifferent. The woman is a legend in the prime of her life, not an ingenue trying to prove herself. All of this is to say that if more people who posted here were serious musicians, there would be more intelligent conversations about Mariah's music from the perspective of people who actually play and sing intelligently. For example, anyone ever attempt a jazz rendition of "The Roof" with just stand-up bass and vocals? Or "Stay the Night" in a raga or Sufi style?
