Introduce Mariah? (97,990) by Leo from LAMBville
So Lambily, if you were tasked with introducing Mariah for a specific award/recognition (i.e. Songwriters Hall of Fame, Lifetime Achievement Award), how/what would you say?

Re: Just a feeling (97,987) (97,988) by Leo from LAMBville
Christmas: I wouldn't be mad at another Christmas album though it may be amazing to have a "Duets" Christmas where she remakes her great Christmas songs with other artists from Patti to Sam Smith. Mariah is Christmas, she has an entire market that other artists like Madonna, Janet and Celine, cannot touch. It validates her even more so as a songwriter and icon.

Mariah and social media: Mariah has a lot of viral content however the engagement on her social media is not that stellar compare" to the amount of followers. M needs less management of her "career" (as she is absolutely boss lady) and add maybe a personal social media manager/creator to work with her and create campaigns based on her releases across all platforms. It would be nice to see more viral content like the "Fantasy" tiktok video, the "it's time" clip and so forth.

Anyway whatever it is, I'm here for it.

Re: New material (97,943) (97,946) by Leo from LAMBville
Edward, like I said in part of my reply on: Re: Andrew's one trick pony (4/7/21)

"He is very intelligent, maybe very educated but his social ineptitude appears may be driven by lack of personal acceptance? I would enjoy his well written and journalistic approach to valid critiques of Mariah projects and others opinions (even if disagree) if it wasn't for the majority uncouth interactions."

I think Andrew's pain was so deep rooted and rather than having dialogue he created a show that he starred as the "clown" of.

I think we could all be a little more subjective going forward however, the majority of us that are fans of Mariah are okay and almost embrace the things most would consider a fail. She could literally release an album speaking the alphabet and I would support it.

Nikki, I wholeheartedly agree! MCArchives has always been a place of enjoyment! Most don't even recognize the amount of work that goes into maintaining a fan site, never-mind the effort to maintain a friendly environment.

I agree so much with what you said about Mariah and I do hope she is living her best life with her projects both professionally and personally; she deserves it!

Re: Nick (97,803) (97,805) by Leo from LAMBville
I agree with Andrew! Nick having all these "Baby Mommy" situations. My perspective is Nick calls himself a king when he lives like a clown. How do you call yourself a king and multiple with different woman in such a short period of time. I understand people live different lives and may not represent the "norm" but it's disgraceful to not only himself as a man but to his children and the 2nd and 3rd women to have his children. You basically sit back and have unprotected sex with someone who has zero interest in being 100% to your family you both create.

My opinion would be different if clear separation was between the pregnancies but he got these hoes in rotation.

Re: Andrew's one trick pony (97,766) (97,770) by Leo from LAMBville
After months of reading the message board I figured I'd throw my 2 cents into the ring of comments about Andrew. I will disregard any reply with his reaction to the post as personal enjoyment; as my opinion he feeds from reaction and self appointed superiority.

I have went back and read months of posts from Andrew and his commentary and interactions are flat out mean spirited and combative to both the forum community and directed at Mariah herself. We do understand "Mariah" is a product, not just physical merchandise but the act of Mariah is something that a lot of us do subscribe to, the "eternally 12" to her high diva moments. I do agree to some points he has made as we all have level of critique to everything in life music, celebrities, food, weather etc. However, Andrew time and time again finds his lack of true personal skills to push others down to lift himself up.

He is very intelligent, maybe very educated but his social ineptitude appears may be driven by lack of personal acceptance?

I would enjoy his well written and journalistic approach to valid critiques of Mariah projects and others opinions (even if disagree) if it wasn't for the majority uncouth interactions. We believe others perceive us as we see ourselves. What an ultimate let down.

I encourage anyone who may feel the same way to not even engage to his quoted replies. If you have a difference of opinion or belief communicate it with the respect that you're entitled to your thought process but can do it without being a clown.

Stay Blessed!

Re: Stokley Williams (97,764) (97,767) by Leo from LAMBville
So after some light research, Stokley Williams does some studio drums and vocal work for various artists. No credits found to Williams for any of Mariah’s stuff that has been released, however has been listed for co-vocals on a remake of AIWFCIY by an artist by the name of "PJ Morton".

Interesting find though Lamb. Sounds like just putting big names to themselves to look more versed in the industry, or a project that was never released or talked about still in the vault.

Re: Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (97,685) (97,686) by Leo from LAMBville
I think it is exciting for Mariah to be working with Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis again, however I do hope MC16 goes in multiple directions or has sequencing like "Butterfly" did.

I personally hope we don't get an entire album of JD and Mariah "Y'all know what this is", I love Jermaine but his gimmick is old and really tired of hearing how he doesn't get his flowers. He is an amazing writer/producer but he will never have the level of fame he feels he deserves. Him deserving it or not is not the statement; his belief on how people should see him is what low key annoys me. Not to start a debate over how well they work together we already know that; just my personal opinion.

Here are the songs Mariah has worked with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis:
Against All Odds
Bliss
Can't Take That Away
I Didn't Mean to Turn You On
Never To Far
Petals
Reflections
Thank God I Found You
Through The Rain
Twister
Want You
Yours

Did I miss any?

Taped performances during quarantine (97,351) by Leo from LAMBville
This is in no way to shade Mariah or the production of the taped performances. I think she looks super confident and content and I absolutely love them, however has anyone noticed the kind of whine/squeak/sharpness to her voice? I honestly can't tell if she is just using additional textures of her voice or if it was done post production.

Re: Favorite Mariah album? (97,318) (97,340) by Leo from LAMBville
"Butterfly" will always be my absolute favorite as a cohesive piece of work from Mariah. I thoroughly enjoy the sequencing of the majority of her projects. All of Mariah's albums have specific moments in my life that I associate with its release; which I think has cemented my connection to her work.

My recent Spotify plays have been "Butterfly", "MOAIA", "MTV Unplugged", "The Rarities" and "Mariah Carey" (debut).

Re: I don't care if Mariah gets another #1 record (97,231) (97,235) by Leo from LAMBville
Just to clarify. I never said I didn't think Mariah cares about getting another #1. She lives for that, it's basically her entire career. I just personally am not going to base everything off of her obtaining another #1. My personal favs have always been the album cuts anyway.

Re: I don't care if Mariah gets another #1 record (97,229) (97,232) by Leo from LAMBville
RJJ12, obviously Mariah wants to be a financial success with whatever label she is on as it leads to more money for her however the details of her deal were never disclosed so she may never even had taken an advance and wouldn't have any monies owed to the label, she may have negotiated a higher percentage paid to her on any profit. The money (from financiers) put up for the production/promotion of a product would be the only profit/loss, so unless something gets some organic movement the label will not feed a promotional budget.

Mariah went on the 'Caution Tour' in support of the album as it was the only way it would have received additional press. Whenever Mariah has ever released a new project that is when you see the awards coming out like Artist of the Decade, Billboard Icon Award and so forth as it is just another thing to get the mainstream media to write about her current project.

I do not see Mariah personally funding a marketing campaign, her money maker is her royalties from her catalog and any partnerships she makes, as in AppleTV+, Walkers Crisps, Hostel etc. (of course Christmas).

Caution in retrospect didn't cost nearly as much as one may think; ODB was paid 15k for his rap on the Fantasy remix (you can google it), Collaborators are getting (depending who) on average 40k-100k per track in addition to any writing royalties. Mariah even spoke in the Quest podcast about how recording has changed so much and most of the time may not even be in the same country with a collaborator.

I agree Mariah does better with a large promotional budget but were DOA with expecting her to fund it.

Mariah like it or not is a legacy artist and her contract would be nothing like the ones with Def Jam, Columbia (1990) or EMI, the most were going to see is social media ads (like we did with TMOMC) and Spotify launch ads in Times Square; don't forget the occasional Empire State Building light show.

If I win a huge lottery jackpot I may just fund a promotional campaign myself. Ha ha!

How would you? (97,228) by Leo from LAMBville
Just for fun. If Mariah was to receive a prestigious Achievement Award and you were selected to present it and allowed to write your own dialog what would you say to introduce her?

TMOMC sales figures? (97,226) by Leo from LAMBville
Can someone explain where they come up with the idea the Memoir sold 800k? The only place I ever seen that come from was a twitter screen shot of a random person and the number seems to have floated around the websites/groups etc.

I believe if it truly sold nearly a million copies it wouldn't have fallen off of the NYT best seller top list so quickly. According to Nielsen BookScan the Memoir sold 62,557 copies in the first 3 weeks and less than 7000 in the United Kingdom.

It is my opinion that the numbers were hugely exaggerated even if you count audible it would have had to be over 700k purchases (not trial subscriptions), and from remembering conversations in the biggest Mariah Carey fan Facebook group everyone was signing up for the trial on audible.

The memoir is deeply discounted in stores and right now on amazon 13 dollars and change. Anyone have any thoughts or facts on the sales numbers?

I personally loved the book it wasn't what I was fully expecting however it was a good read and an even better listening experience.

Re: I don't care if Mariah gets another #1 record (97,212) (97,216) by Leo from LAMBville
I could continue and debate my statement for months as could those who disagree, however I will not. We will all have to agree to disagree. I will still stand by my opinion that Mariah doesn't need to change anything if she doesn't want to and can continue to follow the path she has since Charmbracelet.

It is in my opinion that Mariah is focused on being Mariah the person however the person Mariah is such a mix of the "superstar" and her presentation of "little Mariah" which is fine and I accept and welcome however she wants/allows to be perceived and presented.

If you've followed Mariah for the majority of her career you're aware of things she knowingly does that may or may not be a success to her "product/brand". It is my belief that she surrounds herself with "yes" people and as of recent has had less of a hand in both the business and creative side. She has confirmed this in some sense by the podcast where she said "Caution" was rushed and the push for songs that were not singles.

During "Charmbracelet", Jerry Blair wanted to focus on the "woe is me but I am strong" marketing campaign. Oprah interview, national fan meet & greet contests, label funded street team and so forth. Mariah has even said after the facts she didn't think "Through The Rain" should have been the lead single.

I just want Mariah to make music that she wants to make, that she is inspired by. She can sing the alphabet and I will download, stream and support it like any other release she has done.

I support the memoir even though it wasn't fully what I expected and quickly dropping off the top of the NYT best sellers list. I think a biopic or series is a bad idea but guess what? I'll go hard for it.

Mariah has cemented her place in history, a world class "diva" with astonishing highs and successes. I sadly though feel the general public doesn't subscribe to it anymore. Not specifically Mariah but the idea of how she is presented. When you say "divas" today it doesn't hold the same weight as it did in the 90's. Music doesn't matter anymore it feels like, the goal is shock, scandal, nudity and temporary trends. The more time that passes Mariah will continue to get her roses and references which I feel she will absolutely adore.

I won't count out another across the board hit. Aretha Franklin had a hit 37 years into her career in 1998 with "A rose is still a rose" - granted it was with Lauryn Hill. In the same breath Luther Vandross in 2003 had a huge solo hit and he started in the 70's.

Mariah's talent has afforded me a lot of sanity in a very bleak existence for majority of my life and I will forever be indebted to her. #1 or not. Zero expectations!

Re: I don't care if Mariah gets another #1 record (97,204) (97,205) by Leo from LAMBville
"If you want to say something would sound good that you would enjoy that is different" - is what I wrote. If you think something would sound good, by all means let us all have the imagination to feel one way or another. If she worked with Drake and it sounded great but didn't chart to #1 people would still talk crap about it.

I called it "rude" and your rebuttal is that I'm aggressive and a comparison to "dandelion". Mariah is a relevant legacy artist, I'm sure a duets project is eventually coming. The insistence on gaining another #1 is the disdain I have.

And note it wasn't to shade any one person, it was the topic that feeling of Mariah needs a #1 to still be great. It's disheartening.

I don't care if Mariah gets another #1 record (97,200) by Leo from LAMBville
I wish these "lambs" would stop insinuating that Mariah needs to work with this or that person like she needs a savior. Mariah has fought the majority of her career to control her music. Buy it or don't, stream it or don't, promote it or shut up! Last time I checked she wrote 18 #1 songs on the Hot 100, last thing she needs is inexperienced coattail riders telling her to work with a popular artist. Mariah launches artists she doesn't need anyone to make a hit record. 30 years later she is still relevant. Keep it moving!

If you want to say something would sound good that you would enjoy that is different, but to insist she needs to get another #1 Hot 100 and needs the assistance of another act is just plain out rude. Billboard is slowly becoming obsolete anyway, streaming charts are where things have been heading for some time.

I don't believe "I Pray" would end up on 'The Rarities' as if everyone remembers Mariah let that little kid record and perform it on the Oprah show back in the day. Paul Robbins, recorded and performed it, I remember feeling how amazing it would have been if Mariah did the opening lyrics

Lord I pray
That in my lifetime
There will come a day

It gives me goosebumps.
