About Wonwon from Indonesia: I like Mariah from the first album. Collected some of her vinyl records, all cds and some singles.

Mariah not relevant anymore? (55,609) by Wonwon from Indonesia
Well, Mariah is the best female vocalist of this era. But, people get bored with her formula. Mariah need a new touch. She can make the fast beat song like she did before (Emotion, You're So Cold, Someday). Mariah's situation now is just like Madonna at the Like A Virgin - Like A Prayer era. At that time, Madonna was known as a pop rock female, the style from her beginning of music career. After that, Madonna find a new style by working with Babyface (Take A Bow) and then doing Evita (really fresh for Madonna), and then after that, Madonna was a flop for some years, just like Mariah today. I remember Madonna then change direction. She never worked again with her old friend producers like Steve Bray, Jellybean, Patrick Leonard (these producers give her the image of her music), but gave herself a new producer; William Orbit. Really new. Never heard Madonna like that before. Madonna all out with what William Orbit want. The result is the classic "Ray of light". Madonna still writes the songs (just like Mariah) but there's no older Madonna at that era. I just thought, Mariah needs some contrast change. Just go from that diva style. If Mariah want to try dance music, do it all out. Mariah's music style is old. Not up to date anymore. Songs like Cry, and all materials from MIAM, sound still like Mariah, pop, R&B, Hiphop and ended with Gospel. Is it bad? Not at all, for me it's very good. But did not sell well, right? It's ok to make a good album although it not selling well, but it will be perfect if that good album also sold out. And remember, today's music is pop music. Easy listening, simple and harmony. Forget that hard jazz idea. (Again, sorry for my very bad English.)

Mariah's duets album (55,607) by Wonwon from Indonesia
If Mariah really want to make an album full of duets or collaborations, it will be perfect if she puts it into 2 parts. First part, duets with older music legends; Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, George Michael, Aretha Franklin, Celine Dion, James Ingram, Stevie Wonder, Toni Braxton, Lauryn Hills (or Fugess), Dolly Parton, Olivia Newton John, Barbra Straisand, Phil Collins, Madonna, John Bon Jovi (maybe, I know Mariah love him, and John respect Mariah, one time they had the same hair style, lol). And the second part with the younger act today; Justin B, Katy, Beyonce, Gaga, Ariana, Rihanna, Taylor S, that American Idol winner where Mariah come in to (sorry forget the name), Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Key, etc. Make it a double album format. If it also is not selling well, believe me, it will be one classic MC album. Also, Mariah can include, When You Believe, Endless Love, I'll Be There (maybe remake it with new studio version), The Beautiful One. Sorry for my very bad English.

Mariah Carey No. 1 song is your zodiac sign (53,137) by Wonwon from Indonesia
I'm a capricorn. But I don't like Dreamlover too much, lol. From that Music Box album, I still like Hero, "All I ever wanted", and "Everything fades away". Dreamlover is ok for me, but it's a little bit too pop. I like pop with more soul. It doesn't mean that I love the ballad. I like "Now that I know" also, but I just feel that song was from the Emotion album era. Maybe because of the producers Mariah co-with, the guys from C&C Music Factory. I remember hearing a version of "Never forget you (Extended)", I don't know if it's official or not. But the hook is very hot, more R&N than the original. I like it more than the original version.

Fav album (52,914) by Wonwon from Indonesia
The first album "Mariah Carey" is my fav. The first song in that album that made me love Mariah is There's Got To Be A Way. How she shoot the nigh notes is still unbelievable. My second fav, maybe um, I don't have any. For me, all other album are equal. For example, even Memoirs has 1 song I like very much, Standing O. And the last album, has Art Of Letting Go and One More Try (I like it more than George Michael's version). Glitter, this album has Reflection, the type of song I like. Charmbracelet, of course Through The Rain. Rainbow, the best cut is Heartbreaker. Butterfly, lots of good tracks, but Whenever You Call, still sound good until today. Emotions has lots of songs that I like. But I don't like the music arrangement in this album. Too simple. Maybe Music Box is the best selling Mariah album. But, I don't have good feeling from this album. Even Hero, now sound not that great anymore. I play Everything Fades Away more than Hero nowadays. My fav is Mariah Carey, the others are my second fav.

Infinity (52,561) by Wonwon from Indonesia
First of all, sorry for my bad English. I like Infinity just like how I like "Honey". It mean I never really can get in with the songs like that. But nobody knows about music trends today. So, I think it's not really important if I like or not for Mariah's #1 hit. I hope Infinity can be her top ten hits or better #1. What I want to say is, if you remember Adele's "Someone like you". It's very big when everything is dance. And positive review is not a must for a big hit. Nobody can predict a hit. I like "Art of letting go" so much. It's the same like how I like "Till the end of time" from Emotions. Infinity is different. The difference make me think of WBT at the first time come out. But not in the same genre. The high not at the end of Infinity will be very good in "house remix" for the dance floor. It will be the climax when played in the club. It's not about good or bad, Infinity will be #1. It's about people like it or not. I like it. Just like I like "Honey".

Fav MC album (39,075) by Wonwon from Indonesia
First and forever, it is the first album, Mariah Carey. The sound is so unique, nothing on earth feel like this album. All songs are masterpieces. Mariah at her best vocal performance ever. It is shocking for the world that this young lady has that very big voice. I can sing with Mariah all songs in this album. From "Vision of love" at the first track to "Love take times" at the end of side B of my LP. Yes, I still have the vinyl record. Second, I would like to say Emotions. Not so much type of music like the first album, but I see more Mariah in this album. Mariah made the strong line that makes her different from Whitney at the beginning of this album. And from 2000s, I feel all the album from Glitter to Merry Christmas II You, has the same quality. Mariah more enjoys herself there. Not so worried about marketing anymore, like before she did with Sony. But the songs that make me impressed were We Belong Together, Through The Rain, Standing O, and #Beautiful.

Mariah needs a different, heavy and special song to fix her voice (38,974) by Wonwon from Indonesia
"#Beautiful" is a nice easy listening song. But that's all. It's too light for Carey. Mariah need something more heavy and different to be #1. It is her standard. My point is, looking back for Mariah hits, since day one, "Vision of love". It's an unusual ballad for everybody at that time. Connected with people but unusual. Also "Emotions". Then, "Can't let go" is a nice song, deep and very sweet. But also too light for Mariah Carey. The same case with "Forever", "So blessed" (with the same pattern as "Forever", an "Unchained melody" type of song). Then again "Against all odds" (more troubled with Westlife) or "Can't take that away". The more fresh case is "Bye bye", "I want to know what love is", "Angels cry", or "Through the rain". This time of very pop sound doesn't fit with Carey standard and voice. Too predictable, if you know what I mean. I like to hear "Bye bye" the first time, but it's not deep. I remember Roxette at that time. I don't know, I just feel it. And then the Memoirs album. "H.a.t.e.u." Really really, it's too sweet for Mariah Carey. Compare it to "We belong together". It's an unique ballad. I mean, my head can't find the same pattern song with "We belong together". Also with "My all", "Vision of love", "Love takes time", even "Don't forget about us", "Without you". It's very easy listening. It's not to a number #1 in US, but very big outside the US. Because the US market is a hard market. Mariah never had a #1 single with an usual pattern of song. Not even "Hero".

Mariah is a global star (38,959) by Wonwon from Indonesia
Hi all, this is my first message on this site. I think Mariah was very big in Asia, especially in Japan, and yes in Indonesia. Maybe Mariah's song are not as popular as Rihanna's these days, but as I can see, here lots of local singers sound like Mariah. So, the influence Mariah gives to the world is really true. I don't know how Mariah does in other places, outside the US. As I know, Mariah is very big in Brazil now. And sure, people here respect Mariah for her vocal ability. No matter it's Hip Hop or Pop, I love Mariah. So, Brazil, Japan, US, Asian countries, I think it makes Mariah an international megastar. I think Mariah is bigger than Madonna here.
