About Dave from USA: Good music is what matters.

Do you all think? (110,500) by Dave from USA
Yes, I think it's too late. For the starting rollout, it seemed exciting and promising. Not really sure why she went across the pond so quick with a media blitz and neglected the U.S. markets. I really thought TD would take off in some capacity, but even with a fire song/video, nothing came of it. SS was worse. They could have left that off completely. I really think people are just tired of the "diva" persona, the chest always out, talking about lighting and such, and want her to do what she does (or used to do) best, which is sing. There lies the problem. She just can't sing anymore. She could get away with playing the ditzy diva role with no problem "if" she still had the chops/voice. It's so sad to see her voice deteriorate even further. I really want to be wrong and have the album completely explode like TEOM, but reality just keeps kicking in.

Stop the nonsense (110,273) by Dave from USA
While at times, I agree that it does seem like the board can pile it on concerning Mariah, that's what the board is for to an extent. I don't feel like this is one of those times.

There is a distinct different between the young girl in the (First Vision) VHS tape, singing her behind off to the heavens effortlessly and describing how she is so thrilled to see her song on Billboard at number 53, excited that it's even there versus who is standing there now, miming a song (badly), showing little to no effort/energy during the performance, and thinking the image is enough to offset whatever loss occurred with her amazing vocal gift. I don't think people would have any issue with the diva persona (if) she still had the vocal chops.

As a fan, I'm torn between wanting her to continue to create music but not insulting my intelligence when it comes to not being able to even put on a decent baseline performance. There was a time when I was excited to see Mariah perform because I had no doubt she would knock it out of the park. Effortlessly. Now, sometimes I'm overly nervous to watch in real time for fear her miming is obvious or that her voice can't maneuver around the simplest of notes. I often read here first before I even watch it to see what I may encounter.

Trust me, I get it. Back in 99/2000 I was looked at as one of the bad guys for pointing some things out about MC. I was mainly worried about the image more than the voice back then, and it took me years to admit that something has happened to her vocal gift. Literally years for me to accept what people were already starting to whisper back then.

I want the best for MC. I'm sure all of us do. Like I mentioned before, she, like every other artist, is putting herself out there for the opinions/comments. We all aren't going to see eye to eye but we should at least respect each other's views or observations.

New music (110,235) by Dave from USA
Honestly, if she's going through all that and (if) the voice is totally shot, then she's inviting the scrutiny. It would be better to walk away at that point as she would bring significant damage to her legacy. Other's can't be relied on to do the heavy lifting for a vocalist. If a vocalist has no voice, then it's time to stop.

As for the new song, I'm not surprised at all. Disappointed but not surprised. She is 56 and still talking about getting the ring and all that love struck 20 year old little girl stuff. It's not going to sell in this day and age.

New song (110,112) by Dave from USA
Oddly enough, I liked Type: Dangerous better. Sugar Sweet feels too young for her to sing at this point and she gives way too much time to her guests on the song. It doesn't feel like a Mariah Carey song. There doesn't seem to be much evolution in her sound.

I'm not expecting another Butterfly album (which was her pinnacle in terms of artistry and I doubt she could ever do it again), but she doesn't seem to know how to take a risk and do something different anymore. I think this song will fade faster than TD did (I will be delighted if I am proven wrong and it actually takes off)

She just doesn't have the voice anymore for those types of songs that made her great and now, she is just another singer especially when people outside of us as her fans, notice how much she lip syncs now.

One Heart One Voice (109,503) by Dave from USA
A beautiful song. No one screaming or trying to outdo each other. Barbara [sic] giving MC and AG equal footing on her project is just class personified. She didn't relegate them to mainly provide background. I'll take a relaxed, dated sound to some of the junk that is supposed to be music or respectable vocal prowess these days, at any time. Well done.

A thought (109,463) by Dave from USA
Mariah even charting on today's Billboard is enough. Only in a rare scenario will she score a number one at this point in her career. There are several reasons. She's reached the age in the business where they (ridiculously) think a woman is done, no matter how good she looks. Again, her brand hasn't grown or changed in 20 years. She doesn't really fall under being an "entertainer". Her voice is no where near what it was even 20 years ago, so a namesake ballad like she used to do, seems unlikely to hit... which if she can't do the one thing she's known for, then what else is there?

All that, coupled with the fact that the business has always been fickle with Mariah. Any other female singer can wear something showing her chest and they will call them sexy. Mariah does it, and people say she's being trashy or desperate. If Mariah did something like Beyonce with the country music (that wasn't really country), she would have been mocked or ridiculed, not seen as brave or daring like Bey. She certainly wouldn't be able to wear clothing on tour like chaps with no pants with her behind out without being raked over the coals for being inappropriate.

She has always been held to some higher standard than everyone else. Sometimes, I understand it, but other times it's really been unfair to her all these years. Could be the precise reason that she doesn't really radically try something different like she did with her sound from Daydream to Butterfly. I'm just hoping for a good album.

What's going on? (109,414) by Dave from USA
She started doing promotion across the pond pretty quick (of course, she had the concert there to boot) but many American audiences didn't see it. Not sure why she let loose over there but performed like a mannequin on BET.

At least the song charted and wasn't a Christmas song. Shy of MC stepping out of her box to actually entertain the way Taylor, Beyonce, or others who incorporate a show into their brand, it's slim she will hit like in the past. Radio just doesn't play MC outside of Christmas and the lambs seem to barely support her when she actually does release something. I really do want her to get a hit and topple The Beatles records, but being an older artist, it's way harder to do now. Especially when you don't change your brand.

Summertime Ball (109,355) by Dave from USA
Now that is more like it. A little movement. Crowd interaction. Performance confidence. Similar to the early days when in Tokyo or MSG performing Fantasy.

Video (109,317) by Dave from USA
I must agree. The video delay made me slightly worried, especially when you put out an official clip with the date, then push it off twice. This should have already been in the can.

I loved the vid despite the disappointment of Mr. Beast as the surprise, but another issue is MC just standing there. Dammit, at least sway back forth to the fire beat or lose the ridiculous 9 inch Fendi's if you can't move in them.

Yes, we know you're attractive, but that was always the cherry on top, not the cake itself. She has got to loosen up. This is damn near a parody, which is insane considering the amount of interest there was in this video.

I would not say that was earth shattering. I liked the vid but it didn't live up to the hype. Maybe there will be a remix with higher hopes than Mr. Beast.

In my tin foil hat world, I'm hoping the cowboy hat she's wearing in the promo clips is a nod to Beyonce being involved with the project.

(Off topic: I don't know why I used Anubis as my screen name as that's my video game name. I've never used that here when posting eons ago. I think I fixed it.)

Just enjoy the music (109,178) by Dave from USA
Not having posted here since 2006, it's interesting to see how things have changed. Instead of focusing on chart positions and live performances, just enjoy the music. It's a fun song and isn't that deep. The same sharks are already starting to resurface (Roger Freid, Damizza) so there will be plenty of negativity for Ms. Carey to endure. There a difference between being truthful and being outright cruel. It's new music that isn't something added to the Christmas catalog. Just enjoy the moment.
