About Monark from Australia: Has anyone had a go at deciphering the adlibbed round in One More try? Also keen for the layered stuff in camoflague, but having a lot of trouble

That's real mature of you Abraham.

Mariah referencing (49,181) by Monark from Australia
Come guys, lets be real. Does the fact that the target might not be explicit make it any less hurtful to the person it's directed towards? There are examples where it's been quite explicit: Obsessed, Side Effects, Did I Do That. Anybody who has followed her might assign those songs to different people, just as they might consider that certain songs on the MIAMTEC are about Nick. We'll never know, but chances are they do. I understand your point, that Nick very explicitly references Mariah, in a way that has been interpreted as a bit gross. But ultimately, if you throw shade, then it shouldn't be surprising that someone lobs a hand grenade back every now and then. I'm not making any judgment on Mariah and the music. I love it all, and as much as it's horrible sometimes to think she had to be in a particular headspace to enable her to create a song that touches me the way it does, and it's our instinct to go in to bat for her. Ultimately though, as Miguel reflected in an interview (and in song) at the time of the Beautiful, everything she does is considered and deliberate.

Nick's song (49,158) by Monark from Australia
I think those who are up in arms about Nick's song lyrics need to just settle down. Have you not heard Cry? "Guess it's selfish of me to just expect that I'm entitled to have you." To my mind this is a direct reference to her weaving their story into her album and music. And in a sense it is selfish. Art imitates life, but why is this only ok for Mariah to do? I understand you might make a comment about whether his reference is tasteful. But, at the end of the day, we don't know whether Mariah has outright said to Nick that "you don't know what to do' or that he's thirsty or any of those things. If we accept that Mariah's life (and her relationship) will be reflected through her art, it is extremely irrational to expect that Nick is not allowed to do the same.

IDJ situation (40,060) by Monark from Australia
I think it is clear there is some sort of situation at IDJ. Looking In being performed after she broke her arm, I think was very deliberate and her tearing up at "She dreams of all that she can never be" was significant for me. It just felt that there was something that wasn't typical Mariah Carey in the works and the support wasn't there nurturing her creativity. It's catch 22, you need to spend money to make money. I don't necessarily agree with IDJ's position, if it's their position not to offer marketing support, but if we look at the albums made so far, Charmbracelet, Mimi, E=MC2 and Memoirs, I think it's really unfortunate that only one went gangbusters. But it's true. Making a Mariah Carey album, before the promotion and marketing and everything else would be a pretty pricey proposition. She is after all the best, and I imagine would use the best that money could buy. I think that building on the Christmas appeal is probably a very smart move if there is not going to be that financial input to market the album. One thing that has struck me as odd is that a few people have said that she hasn't really promoted things. Fair call with Triumphant and TAOLG, but Beautiful had quite a few appearances. I hope this album is a success, for some reason the general population doesn't quite connect with her at this point. It's like the marketing machine is needed to remind people that they do. I find that quite sad, she's got so much to offer. That's my two cents anyway.

Almost Home and the Oscars (39,250) by Monark from Australia
My feeling is that Almost Home is not eligible for the Oscars because of it's placement (or lack thereof) in the film and soundtrack.

Music Box (39,187) by Monark from Australia
My favourite song from Music Box would have to be the title track. It's sung so "sweet and tenderly". That's one of my favourite aspects of her earlier work, a lyric thrown in seems to be reflective of the mood of the song. Think "heady and sublime" in Underneath The Stars.

Grammys (39,185) by Monark from Australia
I think with the Grammy's it's been a bit of a curse for her for a couple of reasons. I often wonder whether acceptance speech in 1991 was a litttle ... I don't know how to describe it, but I'd imagine there is plenty of politics and that you need to play the game and her acceptance speech I don't think played to expectations that a winner will be extraordinarily humble and will thank everyone they have ever met in their life. Mariah's was short and sweet and it just doesn't seem to follow the formula and I wonder whether that stays in the mind of the exec type Grammy voters throughout the rest of her career. I also think that her relationship with Tommy has something to do with that. I don't think it's a coincidence that her first huge album after leaving Sony won a number of Grammy's. It's sad to me that she has never won a record of the year. One Sweet Day, We Belong Together or album of the year. By sales alone I would have expected at least one of this big awards.
