Money (59,295) by Tory from Australia
So what if her ring cost millions? They can do whatever the hell they want with their money, it's not their job to feed all the starving children in the world. I doubt you would listen to random strangers telling you how to spend your paycheck so why expect other people to? Just because they're rich and famous? You don't even know them well enough to say they should be giving back more, they probably already do.

Amen lol. Some people don't base their lives around social media and you're right, it doesn't mean that they don't care.

Re: PJW from UK (43,473) by Tory from Australia
Agreed. That's why I said that if it's intentional, then I can accept it but if not then it looks ridiculous to me lol. I watched the artist interpretation video that Gilbert posted and it does make sense. The Japanese cover still freaks me out though lol.

Japanese cover (43,456) by Tory from Australia
I think the Japanese cover looks weird as hell. It's like a morph of Daydream and Charmbracelet, it looks very photoshopped. I think the problem with the new album artwork is the heavy airbrushing. The color scheme and amber skies are beautiful but the heavy airbrushing on her legs just cheapens the effect. You look at the back of the album with the self-portrait and listen to her own description of the album as a "journey", then there's a big contrast with an almost artificial image on the front. Someone posted a video of an artist discussing the meaning behind her new artwork, and it makes a lot of sense. If that was Mariah's intention then I can accept the front cover. What's also interesting is the contrast between the front cover and the single cover of TAOLG from the same photoshoot. When TAOLG was released it seemed she was having a down moment, and the artwork reflected that. Now a couple of months on, the entire theme feels more brighter and vibrant. Either way I'm excited lol.

Duet with Toni Braxton? (41,945) by Tory from Australia
I remember reading an interview last year where Toni said she wanted to work with Mariah on her new album (which ultimately ended up being a joint project with Babyface). I love Toni's dramatic voice, her growls, moans, sighs, her mumbles. She has so much character and style in her voice. I would love to see that duet for Mariah's new album. Would it be Toni on low, Mariah on high or battle of the lower register? Lol I'd imagine they'd do a hybrid of Spanish Guitar/I Only Wanted.

You're Mine (Eternal) (41,920) by Tory from Australia
I've never heard this song on the radio. I've heard #Beautiful and Triumphant by accident more times than I've heard You're Mine. Heck, I've heard "There's Got To Be A Way" more often (2 times) than You're Mine (0).

Mariah Carey 2002? CD:UK interview (41,889) by Tory from Australia
A video was just uploaded on Mariah's official Vevo channel. Random, it's an interview from the Charmbracelet era. The main point of the interview is her collabo with Justin Timberlake on "Yours". Is this a hint for her new album?

On the subject of image and respect (41,821) by Tory from Australia
I love how artists/singers who aren't necessarily R&B or Pop like Grimes and Ryan Adams for example, have such respect and admiration for Mariah. She is an artist who transcends all genres, I think that's pretty cool.

Ariana Grande: Yours Truly? or is it just a Daydream? (41,651) by Tory from Australia
You can't put the blame on her for recreating Mariah's sound. Obviously she is young and very new to the industry, it would be her team (writers, producers etc) that are moulding her image. What's sad is that the producers that worked on "Yours Truly", namely Babyface, would intentionally do that. To have worked with Mariah on classics like "Melt Away" and "When You Believe" and then turn around and mould this new girl as Daydream era Mariah. I would consider that a slap in the face. It makes it worse when Ariana denies it. Funny, in her pre-Grammy interview, she talked about the comparisons to Mariah and defended herself by saying "when you're new you have to be compared to someone". True. Mariah said the same thing in an 1991 interview when someone asked her about Whitney Houston. The thing about Whitney and Mariah is that right off the bat (at least in my opinion) they had a completely different sound and style. If there was any confusion it would be because they both worked with the same producers on their debut albums. After that, they became their own artist and as Whitney said herself "Mariah should be known as Mariah, for her work." They had similar tones, but their style and songs were different. Ariana's style is too similar to Mariah's that no-one can deny it. Lest we forget they were going to name her album "Daydreamin'" *eyeroll*

The Art of Letting Go (single) (41,114) by Tory from Australia
I'm not sure if everyone is over this song, but I've been listening to it lately. I like it a lot actually. I think if it wasn't released as a single, it would have been one of the hidden gems from the album for sure. Anyway, I know everyone had their theory on who she is referring to. Is it Tommy? IDJ? Some random ex? And it got me thinking, what if the song is actually about herself? She's letting go of an aspect of herself, that brought her nothing but unhappiness. The line "Mimi on your contacts, press delete", I don't recall her or anyone referring to her as "Mimi" recently (maybe I've missed it). It would explain her dramatic black ensembles she's been rocking ever since she started promoting the album. An end of an era or death of a "friend"? I was just thinking how seeing her in long all-black dresses reminds me of classic early 90s Mariah. As Nick said, the album is closer to her earlier material so maybe this is Mariah letting go of Mimi and going back to basics. Just a theory. I hope it's true because it would give the song a more significant and deeper meaning.

Mariah, Arsenio, Make It Happen (40,942) by Tory from Australia
When is Mariah going to make her triumphant return on the Arsenio Hall show? I read somewhere that he wants to bring both her and Nick on. Okay no offense, I love you Nick, but it should be only Mariah. She made her TV debut on his show and their bond is legendary. I can only imagine how epic the interview would be, from watching old performances to where she is now. I also want to hear her thoughts on that debut performance, considering how pissed she looked at certain points of the performance (especially the end) because of the band screwing up the song.

ABC of Mariah songs (40,548) by Tory from Australia
Seeing everyone listing off their favourite MC songs from each album, I thought I'd come up with something different. Something I guess some would find harder to list. So basically go through the alphabet and list your favourite song beginning with that letter (excluding Z and whatever other letter she doesn't have a song under). For e.g the letter B: "Babydoll", "Breakdown", "Bringin On The Heartbreak", "Boy (I Need You)" etc. Out of the bunch, I choose "Butterfly". Then you can go through the rest of the alphabet. It's tough since you are choosing songs from her entire catalogue and not just your favourite song from each album. To make it easier, follow this link.

Re: Lee from the UK (40,156) by Tory from Australia
I agree with you 100%. No more excuses, this is not "hating" or "nitpicking". If you can't handle your loyal fans critique, how are you going to feel when the media is up your bum about it? Lol. I've had enough of the dubbing and blatant lipping, I just want Mariah to give us her all and give us the real deal. Whitney Houston didn't sound like she used to but she still got up and sang live infront of countless award and talent shows and no-one made a fuss about it. I still loved her comeback performances because even though the voice wasn't 100%, her energy and stage presence was above and beyond. Her performances were genuine and at the end of the day, that was most important. Mind you, she always had that "spark" and presence from the very beginning.

Tree lighting (40,108) by Tory from Australia
Sad. Just real sad, but I'm honestly not surprised. This is the first time in how long, we've heard her sing 100% live. People can talk about the weather, the cold etc, none of us really know what's going on with her voice. I know a lot of people criticize Mariah for overdubbing or lipsynching, but this just shows us why she does it. Did everyone just forget how much crap Whitney Houston got a couple of years ago for her live concerts? The reception was absolutely horrible. A legendary singer who was once on top of the world, now would struggle competing at your local karaoke bar. I'm hoping the media doesn't make a big deal out of this performance, because it could really damage her career and reputation even further. Then again, you can only protect/hide your flaws for so long before it gets exposed. It looks terrible when you hear her hitting the notes and belting in studio, but in front of a live audience it is a different story. However looking at the silver lining, this was one performance, if she can deliver another live performance and really bring it then people will forget about it. I think Mariah has a lot to prove in this time of her career, a whole lot to prove. I love her and will always root for her.

Mariah superstitious? (40,038) by Tory from Australia
I mentioned in a post a couple weeks ago about her heart necklace she used to wear during the first three years of her career, that I assumed she wore for good luck. I've also noticed in a couple of award shows from 1992 to 1996 she also wore a red ribbon/broche. I assume it was either for good luck or in support of Alison (red ribbon for world AIDS day). Watching a lot of performances, you tend to notice these little details lol.

Jaker20 (39,934) by Tory from Australia
Umm no it wasn't clear, in your second message yes it was, but the first was not. Sorry I couldn't read your mind lol. Forget Idol, what about her BET performance? That was the worst reception to a Mariah performance in years. She had an even bigger opportunity to sing #Beautiful and she lipped it. Not only that, she was absent for 75% of the performance lol. Imagine the media's response if she lipped the entire song, forget about #Beautiful failing, that would be her career dead and buried six feet under. TAOLG's success (or lack thereof) has nothing to do with #Beautiful, fact of the matter is that this album is taking too long to complete. It would be fine if she wouldn't keep mentioning it on FB and Twitter since last year. If she was quiet about it and had her singles lined up with a definitive release schedule, the reception would be better. There were too much breaks inbetween her recent singles, and considering how short the public's attention span is to music now, people aren't caring for her new music. Idol was a wasted opportunity not because of the performance, but for her relevance in the public eye in regards to her new album. No shade.

Re: jaker20 (39,926) by Tory from Australia
Actually your message wasn't clear, you made it sound like she only sang a medley of previous hits and didn't include #Beautiful. It's over and done with either way, so who cares? #Beautiful still regularly plays on the radio, people haven't forgotten about it and still like it.

Re: jaker20 (39,909) by Tory from Australia
Umm, she sang #Beautiful at the end of her medley.

The art (39,775) by Tory from Australia
Perhaps it is about letting go of trying to be at the top of charts and frankly, does she really need to at this point? I don't think anyone doubts that when she wants to make a hit song, she of all people can and will do it. I feel Mariah is trying something different with this album, she's going against what's popular now and what people want to hear and is doing it her way. #Beautiful was so different from everything else on radio and it was a hit. Much like TAOLG it took awhile to grow on me but once it did, I ended up loving it. The Art of Letting Go is like #Beautiful, different. It's a different kind of ballad, which is where I agree with the comparisons to Vision of Love. Even the breakdown and eventual climax reminds me of VOL. Now I think vocally it's beautiful and lyrically/melodically it's a bit to get used to. I kinda disappointed myself because it sounded nothing like how I imagined it would sound from the teaser. I was expecting heavy like orchestra and strings, but in the end it sounds more gospel which there is obviously nothing wrong with that. I agree with others in that I think Mariah is going in the right artistic direction, I feel she wants this album to surprise people, fans and critics alike. She wants to make music people aren't used to hearing from her, she's letting go of expectations and finally taking chances.

B, necklace (39,700) by Tory from Australia
Oh cool thanks for that. I thought it had to be a significant gift for her to wear it on stage, like a goodluck charm or something.

Mariah's heart necklace (39,692) by Tory from Australia
Does anyone know the story behind it? If you notice up until she married Tommy (to my knowledge) she wore a heart necklace nearly everytime she performed and it kind of became a signature in a way, similar to Whitney's cross earring she wore on one ear during the early 90s as well.

Mariah covering Whitney? (39,524) by Tory from Australia
There is this rumor floating around that Mariah is planning to remake Whitney Houston's "You Give Good Love" for her upcoming album. Considering I've only heard it on YouTube and nowhere else, I'm not even going to entertain that thought lol. That's actually one of my favourite Whitney songs, I'd say top 5. You know Mariah likes her covers lol aside from EOM, E=MC2 and pre-MTV Unplugged, she always includes a cover on her albums. I'm not sure how the lambily feels about them, but I personally like most if not all of her remakes. I like that she could take a rock ballad or disco ballad etc and put her own style on it. I may be biased as a lamb in that regard lol, but imo I've never liked when artists cover a song and it sounds exactly the same as the original, from the vocals to the production lol. To me, you know a cover is great when you can listen to it on it's own and not get flashbacks of the original in your ear, or have a sudden urge to listen to the original. A great cover should stand on its own.

Mimi on the radio (39,425) by Tory from Australia
Over here (New Zealand), I mainly hear Without You, I'll Be There, One Sweet Day, Dreamlover, Always Be My Baby, We Belong Together, I Wanna Know What Love Is and Fantasy. I remember how shocked I was when "There's Got To Be A Way" and "Butterfly" came on the radio once lol. Overall I'd say Without You, I'll Be There and One Sweet Day are her biggest hits here. Ironically, Vision Of Love went to #1 here in 1990, but I have never heard it on the radio.

Kelly Price shade (39,308) by Tory from Australia
Is this topic dead and buried or can I just add my two cents? Lol. I just watched Kelly's interview with Wendy Williams talking about the tweet and how she wouldn't name the "singer" she was dissing. Kelly is a coward, how is she gonna sit there and tell the cameras that she's not going to name them because "it was a moment between her and the TV screen". Then why did you feel the need to tweet about it, yet pull back when people started naming names? Say what you really want to say or say nothing at all.
