About Tony from US: I'm nobody's lamb...I'm a grown-a** man!

Album review / opinions (44,576) by Tony from US
I like this album. I think there's something for everyone. My favs: Cry, Camouflage, YDKWTD, $$$, and MILG. I feel the remake of One Last Cry is okay, but nowhere near the greatness of the original. The other tracks aren't bad, but I pretty much skip them. They might grow on me with time. As far as the sales go, I'm not shocked. It just is what it is at this point. I used to get so annoyed over the things that MC and her team insist on getting wrong (ie. no promotion, lackluster live performances and even worse lip-syncing/dubbing, pushing back release dates, painful interviews, weak videos, etc). Now I just enjoy the five or six songs I like from each new album and keep it moving. Griping obviously doesn't change anything. Also, ditto what Randy has said in his past few posts, except for the unplugged idea. I haven't heard anything live from MC in a while that makes me confident she can pull off a fully live scaled back set. On a lighter note, I die a thousand deaths each time I hear Mary J sing "a-pre'en-sage" rather than "apprehensive" on the It's A Wrap remix. They could've given her a lyric sheet and another take.

Is it me... (41,894) by Tony from US
... or does it seem unwise to reveal a release date for an unfinished album? Isn't that where we were on multiple occasions last year? And with Memoirs? And E=MC2? I feel like I'm being set up yet again.

Still hoping for the best (41,618) by Tony from US
Aside from my first listen when the song debuted and watching both videos, I haven't really listened to YM(E). The single just hasn't moved me. It's not at all horrible, but it's not gripping enough for me. I think when people (like myself) say we want the old MC back, I'm talking about her releasing music with strong vocals and a strong melody. Last week in one of her interviews when she said the melody was so simple her toddler daughter can sing it back to her, that may very well be a good sign that MC as an artist isn't challenging herself creatively. And, if your daughter can sing it, then surely MC can and will sing it live and undubbed, right? I already know the BET performance will spark yet another lip-sync scandal. I'd quit singing before I lip-sync in front of Aretha. It's almost like cursing in church. My point? MC is so much better than what she's been giving lately. These knick-knack-paddy-whack songs with one note melodies are cool for a Rihanna or Miley, but not for the multi-octave voice of a generation best-selling-most-number-ones-having MC. I've forgiven the deteriorating vocals, because you can only work with what you've got. I've forgiven the stiff and lipped performances, the tacky ensembles, and I've even tolerated the eccentric/quirky interviews. What I can't let slide is sub-par music from someone I know is capable of sheer awesomeness. I really do hope for great things for this album.

Hoping for the best (41,268) by Tony from US
I like the new song, it’s cute. I like the remix better (never thought I’d say that about anything featuring Trey Songz). The video is as expected, glamour shots and kinda boring, but it I’m not even mad at it. My only complaint is MC during her interviews. When did this rambling thing start, and when will it end? It’s kind of a turn off too see a veteran/legend/etc so incoherent and just ramble on and on about absolutely nothing. And has she been lip-synching so long that she actually forgot how to speak into a mic during interviews? I always begin watching an MC interview with enthusiasm and excitement, but leave it rolling my eyes or shaking my head. I fear that’s the feeling most people get watching her interviews, and unfortunately, that kills any desire to want to hear her music. I hate that her persona, or at least the public’s perception of it, is killing her career, because I truly want to see her win. I wish her the best for this single and the coming album. On another note, idk how much MC paid for those breasts, but she needs to go back and pay that doctor again, because the twins (dem boobies, not dem babies) were sitting at the BET Honors.

Ditto Randy / re Nikki (40,107) by Tony from US
I pretty much agree with everything Randy said. One great (not just okay) 100% live performance (done in one take) from "The Voice" is not too much to ask. Weather or alcohol consumption aren't excuses, as MC is not the only singer to have a drink in any of the four seasons. Having a bad day of singing is understandable, but a decade's worth is something different. Whatever the reason, there's a problem that needs to be fixed. Nikki, I'm sure the video not being available on YouTube has less to do with Sony ATV, and more with the fact that it was a horrendous performance that MC doesn't want to be seen, especially with a new album coming. Why would I assume that? Well, with all her live performances of AIWFCIY online I find it hard to believe that all of a sudden Sony decided out of the blue to claim copyright infringement on just this one performance, and it can't be the White House, since everyone else's performances are still up.

My rusty 2¢ for this month (40,058) by Tony from US
My logic tells me that MC is gonna enjoy her annual Christmas reign, and build on her holiday media presence (3 performances this week, AIWFCIY in every store and radio station, etc.) with new single/album details while she's still on people's minds and playlists. MC and JD are both veterans in the music game with legacies securely intact. I highly doubt JD would do anything to hurt her career, or that MC would sabotage herself, much less let someone else do it. Let's relax folks, and have a Merry Christmas.

Ummm (39,742) by Tony from US
All this build up and... puh. The song isn't bad, but for me it's that album track I'd listen to once a year, but skip over to get to the next song. The first time I listened I was like meh. I listened to it again and it left a better impression. A day later, I have no real desire to hear it again. Maybe it's a grower and not a show-er. On the plus side, no screechy vocals, a good vocal actually. C-

Hi / MC (39,599) by Tony from US
Hi everyone. This is my first post, but I've been a visitor to this site since 2001, and a MC fan from way back. I hope everyone is well and as excited as I am for the new single. The video/snippet sounded promising. She looks cute in the cover art, but I kinda already know what her videos and single/album cover art is gonna look like from here on out. It's not what I'd prefer, but whatever blows her skirt up. I'm here for the music, which hopefully will be smashing. I just wanted to say howdy and throw my rusted two cents in. All the best to everyone. PS: I love MC, but this pic gave me life, slayed me, then resurrected me. I had to make "Butch Carey" my avatar.
