About ZachSingsMariah from USA: Been "Obsessed" with MC since TEOM (still listen to that album at least weekly!), she's truly THE VOICE!

ZSM and remembering MC as an artist (71,232) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
Hey lambs, for those new to the lambily or those who may have missed it, last April I did a giant tribute concert to Mariah featuring some of her big hits (One Sweet Day, TMB) as well as my personal favorites (including obscure fan faves like Outside, YDKWTD, Breakdown). In this time of fear, when press so often proves in vain for Mariah, I thought it would be fitting to share the link to the show performances once more. Now more than ever, I think we as fans have to remind ourselves why we love this woman and her art. "Zach Sings Mariah" is a reflection of how deeply I relate to the experiences and the narratives of Mariah's life and music. Also, I would really appreciate your support as I move forward as a musician, songwriter, artist in my own right, knowing Mariah has been and will continue to be my greatest inspiration. I have been an avid reader of and contributor to this board since I was 10 years old and I thank you all (especially Eric the webmaster) for continuing this wonderful resource for Mariah fans. Love ya much.

Still lamenting "Infamous" (66,805) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
Speaking of MIAM and single choices, I still believe "You Don't Know What To Do" and "Dedicated" were two of the biggest missed single opportunities of MC's career. Both songs are absolutely magical, and would have been very marketable and radio-friendly. Both had true hit potential, yet it was wasted. I honestly cringe at many of the career choices Mariah has made the last several years, especially since Stella came into the picture. I think "Infamous" is further evidence that Mariah is surrounded, and maybe even deluded, by "yes" people who do not know how to steer her in a direction that adequately uses her talents. Still, I am excited to see how she does as Kitty on Empire next week.

Tough love for MC (66,793) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
So the much-anticipated song "Infamous" from "Empire" has now been released. And I am going to be honest I think this is yet another low point for Mariah. This song reminds me of "Triumphant" in that she continues to be the feature artist on her own songs. When I saw her in Vegas earlier this month, she alluded to her plans for a big comeback. Well, I am sorry to say this is not it. The hook is non-existent, her vocals are too processed, and that auto-tune rap verse is straight out of 2006. Quite frankly, it is boring. I love Mariah with all my heart, but she has not put out a good single since #Beautiful. (Notice I said single; I loved the MIAM album as a whole.) #B was a brilliant duet. "Infamous", on the other hand, is already among the least memorable records I have ever heard from her. Lambs, let's not blindly pretend that this is up-to-par with what we should expect from an artist as brilliant as Mariah.

Needing help/support from the lambily (61,736) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
Hey lambs. I have been trying to get Mariah and her people to notice my Zach Sings Mariah show since last October, but after relentless effort on my own I still have not achieved much. I know she has an army of people around her that make it tough to communicate with her, but I know deep in my heart that Mariah would enjoy seeing these videos and be flattered and hopefully impressed. It is such a huge dream of mine to meet her and thank her for the music in Zach Sings Mariah and the ways she has changed my life. Anyway, here is a playlist with all of 15 performances from the show as well as a few promotional previews I made. If each one of you would do what you can to share the entire playlist, or maybe pick your favorite video to share with your friends and fellow lambs on social media, and tag Mariah Carey or Stella Bulochnikov or really any of the people around her (MaryAnn, Takeytha, Trey, Big Jim, Anthony Burrell, etc.) I would be so grateful. I would love for MC to see that this show is permeating beyond just me and my university here in Nashville and is reaching a global audience. P.S. I'm sorry to the board poster who was excited to see "Now That I Know", we ended up cutting that song at the last minute. Still, I think the set is pretty awesome. I tried to satisfy all the lamb favorites. Please enjoy.

"One Sweet Day" remake from Zach Sings Mariah (61,424) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
Dear lambily, while I am finishing editing the rest of the footage from my Mariah tribute show this past Sunday, I want to go ahead and share this video of my recreation of "One Sweet Day" (the Sweet A Cappella version from the '96 single, to be exact). I was honored to sing this alongside the Vanderbilt Melodores, who won the 2014 season of NBC's The Sing-Off. Also, I am singing it in MC's original octave. Anyway, please help me try to get this video seen by Mariah or Wanya, Shawn, and Nathan of Boyz II Men. Tweet the link or share on Facebook. Your support means everything. Looking forward to sharing more content with you guys very soon. Thanks so much.

How to send stuff to Mariah? (56,035) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
MC periodically posts pictures on social media showing a bunch of fanmail and other gifts from fans. I'm curious about how to send stuff to MC so that she or her people will actually receive it. Do any of you know how to do that? Is there an address/P.O. Box for us common lambs to send her stuff? Thanks.

Pearl Palms Concert on Spotify (48,854) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
Hey lambs, don't know how many of you have been to Mariah's Spotify page lately but you can now listen to the live recordings of her 2010 show at the Pearl in Vegas. She sounds amazing on some of these. I am particularly partial to the rendition of "Subtle Invitation". Definitely add that one to your playlists for the New Year.

Too quick to judge (47,105) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
You all need to hold your horses and cut Mariah some slack. This is the first show of her first tour in 5 years, she's travelled literally across the globe and is probably jet lagged/poorly rested, not to mention she is in the midst of a very public and clearly excruciating divorce. The list of things working against her right now is stacked mile high, yet she is still making the selfless effort to perform for her fans, put on what looked like a very cool and engaging visual display, even sing live (which is something people endlessly beg her to do). So what if she sounds a bit off? It's honestly to be expected of any artist on their opening night, and given her circumstances right now it's truly a miracle that she's up on stage at all. Be patient, she will no doubt find her groove again. Hang in there, MC.

"Camouflage" is underrated / brilliant sequencing (45,724) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
I feel like people haven't highlighted Camouflage enough. I really think it's one of the most unique and compelling ballads Mariah's ever done. I think the NY Daily News review described it best when they said it's "the closest to abstract a Mariah song will ever come". Stunning lyrics, enchanting vocal layering, haunting richness and complexity. It's a true tour de force, dahling.
Also, I could not be more pleased with how seamlessly the album flows from one song to the next. I remember that series of pics MC posted back in April of her sitting at the beach reflecting on the songs and carefully thinking through the chronology and arc of this album, and that pensive attention to detail clearly paid off. The transitions are especially brilliant: the scribbles before "Faded", the "Dedicated" banter, the match before YME, the cyberspheric Meterorite intro. It goes on. In short, I can't get enough of this album.

J. Lo's new album / One More Try (44,864) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
Not to perpetuate the comparisons/conflict between MC and Jenny, but "A. K. A" is virtually unlistenable. A fellow commenter here brought up the track "Emotions". It is so laughably abysmal I struggled to contain myself. Not to mention JLo also snuck Nas onto her album (seems a bit suspicious to me given the much earlier timing of Mariah recording the marvelous "Dedicated"). For all of you paranoid about Mariah potentially becoming irrelevant in the industry now in her mid-40s, I urge you to listen to "A. K. A. " and realize just how much worse it could be.
Also, just wanted to say how much my opinion has changed on "One More Try" since first hearing it. I kind of hated the naive, nasal sound of her voice at first, but I actually think her fragile tone gives really nice contrast to the immense gravity of the lyrics. Also, the run at "ain't no joy-yeeee" around the 5-minute mark is just pure revelation. I've never heard MC have this many vocal textures in one song, it's truly remarkable.

Outside background vocals (43,481) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
I totally agree, love her attention to detail because it always makes for richly-layered, complex songs that you get something new from upon each listen. Another great example is yet another Butterfly track, "Outside". Listen to the background vocals and how they contrast with Mariah's part on the final verse/chorus; the composition is utterly sublime.

Collabo with Stevie (41,634) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
Honestly, while Stevie Wonder may not fit into the industry models for what's "young" and "current", I think if he and MC have made a song together then that is hands-down the best choice for the next single. I mean, can it really get better than Stevie and Mariah crooning an immoecabble ballad (presumably titled "I'll Still Be Around", a name which I adore already) together? I genuinely think that could have massive chart potential. Just a thought. Still, I love YM(E).

Two "You're Mine"s (41,167) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
It just occurred to me that she probably added on the "(Eternal)" bit to the title to avoid confusion with Lea Michele's new single (which is Top 20 on iTunes this week). Definitely a smart move as the last thing this awesome song needs is to be confused with another song. I am loving both "You're Mine"s (especially Mariah's, of course! ).

No lipsynching at Buble special (40,300) by ZachSingsMariah from USA
I have watched both of her performances at the Michael Buble special several times now and there is no way any part of either song was lipped. I've watched so many lipped (or at least partially lipped) Mariah performances at this point I can pretty well discern between live and lipped. Both of these songs she absolutely was singing live and knocked it out of the park. It has been ages since she sounded that good live. Maybe the friendly vocal competition with Michael helped her bring her A+ game.
