I must admit I don't really understand what is being released and how? Is Proctor's Theatre being released as an audio? If so, is it going on Spotify or do you have to actually purchase a hard copy? It's all pretty confusing.

Some fans are speculating that Mariah's "My Prayer" is actually a cover of a song of the same name by the group "The Platters", because in the promotional video, Mariah's track lasts 2:50, which is similar to this one. What do you think, guys?

I absolutely agree with you. Remastering anything from the late 80's on has resulted in CD's with louder volumes, that's it. Sometimes the remastering process has even ruined the original feel of the CD. For me, remastering works wonders by removing background static noise from recordings that predate the CD era and by improving those recordings that sounded as if the artists were singing from inside a well, other than that, it's just a way to entice people to buy again.

I don't have that version my friend, but that's because it's a lot of snake oil. It won't sound any better than the CD. CD audio (16bit/44.1khz) is better than the top range of human hearing (but a substantial margin), so much like the gold "hi-res" stamp you see, it's marketing with no discernable difference. The fact the K2 CDs play on a regular CD player, which cannot encode any better than the Redbook standard, is testament to that.
The only true difference can be heard on the SACD/HDCD format, which you need to play on special decoders/systems. You will hear nuances in the music and perhaps elements deeper in the mix brought to life a bit more. To my knowledge only #1's and Divas Live has been released on that format from Mariah's catalogue.
Any difference you hear on the K2 version will likely be down to the mastering, and in most cases it's "louder" only. So, put in your regular Music Box CD and turn up the volume dial and you'll have the same outcome.
We are fortunate Mariah recorded her albums in top quality Sony studios (up until Rainbow), the CDs all sound fantastic and are the absolute best they can be.

Mariah Carey lands six new RIAA certifications (103,282)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Merry Christmas got two platinum certifications from 2019-2020 bumping it to an impressive 8x platinum. I guess Christmas will reach diamond status first than Mariah Carey which last certification was on December 1999.
It took Daydream 20 years to score another platinum certification.

New era? (103,252)

The arrogance.
Let's keep on talking and debating Mariah's future career, this is not MariahDaily Messageboard.
While Mariah has had the very illustrious career most could only dream of, she's not 80, just a 54-year young woman. She has significantly slowed down in the last 10 years and nobody has gone crazy about it.

You said everything that needs to be said. There's really nothing, literally nothing, else that needs to be discussed about Mariah's future career after this post. Of course, that won't happen, since most of the people on this board would have nowhere to go to express their incredible negativity and insults in an effort to project their own unhappiness.

The Price Sisters and Melonie - underrated gems (103,214)
by Edward from USA

It is perfection indeed. Even though I discovered "Everything Fades Away" years later since it wasn't part of the US version of Music Box, I've placed it at the end of "All I've Ever Wanted", but it always sounds out of place to me. It's a good thing it is now on "The Rarities". "All I've Ever Wanted" vocals are insane.

Everything Fades Away is one of the best unreleased Mariah songs ever. All I've Ever Wanted followed by Everything Fades Away is just magical. Listening to them on repeat now in bed as I used to many years ago. She should have released All I've Ever Wanted. She ought to have received a Grammy for the vocal performance on it. It's perfection.

There are going to be many virtual artists like Gorillaz, but I don't think real artists are going to disappear. While a great song is a great song for most casual listener, fans will always appreciate and look for the human connection. AI is going to be incorporated in everything, we're going to have to deal with it with laws and regulations.

I agree. Truths and facts and face value of things have started to get blurry. It's a dangerous road the world is on right now, and AI produced covers and songs from living and dead artists is just another thing on that road.
Imagine in maybe 50 years, many people will have forgotten what's real and what's not real. If these AI manufactured things wont stop without a license or with warnings that it's not real, people in the future wont investigate every single thing they will come across, and fake song will be thought of as original work.
With this developement, people wont know which songs that are actually written and sung by Mariah. One can question if it's a bad thing or not, perhaps Mariah's legacy will live longer? For me personally I would like the original work of an artist to live on, not some manufactured songs without soul.

The genie is out and the bottle has been destroyed. Disruption has started. The tweaking artists do in the studio is already being done with AI. Artist will eventually end up licensing their voices too and we'll have AI albums from current and deceased artists. The music scene, as we know it, is about to change drastically.

The AI voice is incredible. I would likely not have known the difference. But you are right: knowing it's not real takes away the essential aspect of listening to and being a fan of an artist - especially in Mariah's case as somebody that writes and produces the music, too. Who gets passionate about a computer? YouTube fed me If Only You Know/Somewhere Over the Rainbow (1998) and You and I (2002) so it redeemed itself. But this AI world needs strict regulation - very quickly. The SAG are right to strike, musicians alike should down tools to negatively impact the Western economy until a regulatory framework is introduced whereby it is unlawful to reproduce someone's image and voice using AI without consent. No good - let me say again - no good can come from any of this.
