About Warren from Trinidad & Tobago:
I am a fan since early VOL days and being from the Caribbean, far south close to south America, access to music and information was always so difficult. LOVE MC's music all these years and feel like she has only gotten better. I have been able to see her twice and they have been fantastic experiences.

Mature Mariah (104,225)

While we argue about vocals and stiffness and what [may] or may not have happened, can we please acknowledge the wit and maturity and total focus and lack of tangents she's been on recently. This made me proud.

Who is she kidding? (102,878)

Terna I fully agree.
But let's forget about the voice for a moment. What impressed me the most and made me the happiest was seeing how comfortable she was on stage. Moving around, no awkward poses and stiff boring performances. This was the best I've seen her work a stage since Madison Square Garden in 1996. I know it's a bold statement but she seemed so at ease with whatever she was doing. And for me, after literal decades of bland and/or purely vocal performances she was a true performer again.

I beg to differ, fluidity is back, well not completely but it's much better than a year ago, her tone is warm again like there's substance there not that dry nasal sound, that annoying scratch anytime she was trying to belt is gone, resonance in her upper belts have reappeared. I hear a recovering voice and she's not trying to overdo it - she knows her voice is in repair mode. (Do you think Mariah doesn't know her voice?) This was one of the biggest complaints Whitney Houston's voice coach had that he spoke about during the aftermath of her demise. He said Whitney's voice was so resilient and repaired very quickly but at the slightest semblance of function she would relax, do shows and then it was back to square one. I get that sense Mariah has read all our posts and finally got round to seeking professional help. It's evident in her sound from the Pride concert. She sounds like '98 again minus a few bumps here and there.

One cover to consider (102,534)
by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago

She always gravitates towards 80's ballads and I've always wanted her to cover Richard Marx's "Right here waiting". I also absolutely love, just as a song, "Hallelujah " and think she could do so much with that.

One cover to consider (102,525)

MC has been really successful with covering famous hit songs. She has to cover a song that is gonna grab the world's attention. So, this one song came to my mind that would fit MC's current voice perfectly. The song is Rolls Royce's [sic] Love Don't Live Here Anymore. MC could put her own spin on it with a huge choir moment from Tye Tribbet and G.A.

Mariah vs MC (102,404)
by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago
| |
|
|
Hey Jamie. My thoughts are that Mariah was just being Mariah for the first part of her career. Finding the balance between what she wanted and what she was told to do. Then as with any rebellion she went totally opposite. Personally as most lambs, I prefer Mariah performances but MC delivers much better albums. There are a few skips on her earlier work for me. And now that fame and trying to remain relevant, together with Peter Pan syndrome she's trying too hard to make music she thinks will be popular vs music that is actually good. She just wants that next hit. It's the cost of the immense success she's had, so I think that's why she leans so hard into Christmas, because she knows she will always be #1 in that genre.

Mariah vs MC (102,399)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
Ok as a 90's fan of Mariah and a continued fan to this day, I've always struggled with Mariah and MC. Whilst I like them both I'm more swayed towards Mariah. I've always wondered what she thinks, as Mariah did she always want to break away and be MC, or now does she long to be Mariah again? I say this because she always says how controlled she was, yet now every opportunity she gets she shows pics etc of her earlier career. Watching her earlier videos she is so natural and composed something I don't think can be forced or mimicked. So I often wonder who is the the real Mariah/MC? Don't get me wrong I love both, but I often wonder what happened that made the drastic change, I don't believe it was all Tommy as he could have dressed her in all he liked, but like I said you can't mimic those natural early performances. I get people change, I've changed myself, but not so drastically like she has. I always wonder who the happiest one was. To me she looks more happy in the early Mariah days when she was more wholesome, but would love to hear your spin on things. This all came from watching ATYNAF from Proctors Theatre, which to me is one of her best performances. I'm not looking to be judgmental I'm honestly just looking for peoples spin on things as it genuinely interests me.

What a feast. If AIWFCIY keeps topping the charts for at least 3 weeks for the next 3 years, she'll by herself this time would reclaim the title as "The Artist with the Longest #1 Song" on "Billboard Hot 100" by 2025 with 20 weeks at the top. The OSD record kind of hurt when it was broken.

Moet and Chandon performance (101,749)

Totally agree Robert. This is by no means Toyko Dome, however the confidence and ability to attempt some of what she was doing is certainly there for some reason, and its paying off. Its not like she's trying and failing. I like what I see.

W photo shoot (101,696)
by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago

Anyone else notice that in recent weeks, she's been keeping dem boobies hidden or a little more subtle, which has resulted in more high end and sophisticated looks? I know it's not proper to comment on such things, and she can wear what she wants, but all of the looks that have been getting all of the positive talk from us and the media have all been where she is being slightly more mature with her looks.

Macy's performance (101,674)
by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago
| |
|
|
So what you're basically saying is, for just 4 minutes out of a 3 hour production, they need to get a sound engineer and mixer, have a live band (because a pre-recorded musical track just would add legitimacy) and all the other logistics that goes into a truly live performance. Especially when every other single performance is lip-sync, even the Macy's choir? I'm not saying she would have killed it if it were live, but at least be fair and just when throwing out all of these statements.

Can I just say this. Janet Jackson, Britney Spears, Ciara, JLo, Paula Abdul can lip sync without criticism. Mariah Carey who is considered one of the best vocalist of all time cannot. Patti Labelle is 99 years old. She woulda sang. I know. I know. It was outdoors, her ear monitors weren't working, it was air conditioning outside, she has nodules, her humidifiers weren't working in her sleep chamber, her background singers were too loud. The funny thing is... her lip syncing wasn't a surprise to me. The mic is a prop at this point. But y'all really excited about her Christmas concerts? It will be the best cut and paste lip sync performance in history. Kinda like the 1996 Grammys.

Why can't her videos be like that It's Time promo (101,584)
by Rashidi Rahim Rick from Malaysia

It doesn't have to be a big budget multi millions to produce an interesting official videos. It just needs a concept or a theme. Just like that It's Time promo. Imagine how it would turn out if videos for Caution, A No No using the same creativity. Mariah always claim that she's a funny person, so why can't she incorporates her personality into her videos. Touch My Body, Heartbreaker, Honey are proof that funny concept videos works. But she always end up with videos of her touching herself, Save The Day, I Don't, Infinity, Infamous, With You, GTFO.

Ricardo - I totally believe this and hope for this too. She just needs the right team and release strategy. Copy Adele's method 100% for all I care, as long as it is done right. Because we all know, she could make the best music, but if it isn't marketed properly, the general public will not respond.

Good/bad news (99,305)
by Warren from Trinidad & Tobago
| |
|
|
So as you can see I'm from a tiny island in the Caribbean of 1.4 million total population. So our market does not make a dent or impact in the grand scheme of anything. I'm saying this to say the radio stations (yes plural) have FILAC on repeat. I just can't understand it. I have not even heard All I Want.... for the season. That's the good news, the bad news is the more I hear it the more it sounds ok.

My thoughts exactly. It spent 3 weeks in one shot already so let's average 2 per year. In less than 10 years we can have the record back. I really hope they don't change the rules again, but sales aren't coming back and streaming is the way forward so the rules may remain. Imagine if she were to hit #1 every year of 2 decades.

I think that's an inevitability we all need to be faced with. MC will always work with JD as long as she has full creative control over her career. She needs to at least listen to the advice of someone else at this stage if she hopes to ever be a non-Christmas artist at least once again. After that, I would be happy if she called it a day and only did one off performances like the WBT Valentines mix.

You meant the level of success of WBT right? Because she has tried to recreate that too many times over. She should go for something totally new, fresh and that would surprise and make people talk, while still keeping that "Mimi" sound and vocals. Just my 2 cents.

So I'm from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean and right now was supposed to be carnival time, but Covid cancelled it all. No parties, no street parade for 2 days of booze, fun, music and well.
Our local music is soca and this is the quintessential soca song. For those of you that do watch the video, it's from 2003 but Nicky Minaj (who's from here) came back and filmed Pound The Alarm video so her video has some of the same elements.
