Music Box 30th anniversary revealed (103,291) by Bill from the UK I don't have that version my friend, but that's because it's a lot of snake oil. It won't sound any better than the CD. CD audio (16bit/44.1khz) is better than the top range of human hearing (but a substantial margin), so much like the gold "hi-res" stamp you see, it's marketing with no discernable difference. The fact the K2 CDs play on a regular CD player, which cannot encode any better than the Redbook standard, is testament to that. The only true difference can be heard on the SACD/HDCD format, which you need to play on special decoders/systems. You will hear nuances in the music and perhaps elements deeper in the mix brought to life a bit more. To my knowledge only #1's and Divas Live has been released on that format from Mariah's catalogue. Any difference you hear on the K2 version will likely be down to the mastering, and in most cases it's "louder" only. So, put in your regular Music Box CD and turn up the volume dial and you'll have the same outcome. We are fortunate Mariah recorded her albums in top quality Sony studios (up until Rainbow), the CDs all sound fantastic and are the absolute best they can be. (Sunday 3 September 2023; 10:58)

The trailer does say there is an "expanded digital version" which I am assuming is the 3xCD version. It's next week, so I'm surprised it's not yet available to pre-order anywhere. And finally, to have the Thanksgiving concert on audio at last. Music Box was my first Mariah album and still to this day remains one of my favourites. I think as fans we always want more but we forget that she's a human who has achieved so much and probably wants to kick back. I'm guilty of wanting that big album hit again but in reality that's probably never gonna happen. I think we can just expect small projects now, whilst she's still a huge name there naturally comes a time when an artist relaxes and no longer feels the need to be constantly pushing themselves. New era? (103,249) by Will from England I think it's to be expected that she slows down now. She's done literally everything there is to accomplish in music that she wants to do and has broken and made so many musical history records; she's done all the dog and pony shows for each album; she's performed in nearly every country; she's had to her rise, fall and return to grace. Her arc is complete, and there is nothing more for her to do expect enjoy the life she has built for her family. Her children are nearly teenagers, and for now, she is enjoying being a mom to them, occasionally recording and writing stuff, but without the pressures for commitment to a record label to deliver a full album and do a promotional tour. Look at the other legacy acts around, there isn't anyone in her category making music or having hits (with the odd exception here or there like Kylie), it's all the younger upcoming artists and I'd like to think that she has made peace with that. Her final large promotional push she had to do, that I feel she wanted to achieve and was easily attainable at that point, was to get AIWFCIY to number 1, and that's done, and that song will now continue to increase in weeks at number 1 every year, before finally becoming the longest running number 1 song ever on the chart ad infinitum. However, that's not to say she will never release another musical project, I don't think that she can ever let that happen considering her views on Caution, but something to really sum up over 30 years in a cut-throat business and something she can be proud of being the final major project, and finish it with her sweet 16th album. Even though I discovered "Everything Fades Away" years later since it wasn't part of the US version of Music Box, I've placed it at the end of "All I've Ever Wanted", but it always sounds out of place to me. All I've Ever Wanted followed by Everything Fades Away is just magical. Listening to them on repeat now in bed as I used to many years ago. She should have released All I've Ever Wanted. I love Michael Bolton and he used this style, Everything Fades Away is a good example of this. I find it adds depth and texture to songs and can bring out more emotion in certain songs. How cool would it be for Mariah to do one track with the Price Sisters and Melonie, and team up with Walter for writing and production. I was listening to Merry Christmas (I know, I know, it's August), and I honestly believe they make the album what it is. Their backgrounds on O Holy Night, Jesus Oh What a Wonderful Child, Born On This Day, Joy to the World, Silent Night and of course AIWFCIY are phenomenal. Especially AIWFCIY. I'm sorry but that song would not be what it is without their stellar contribution. Then you have their vocals on Anytime You Need a Friend, Dreamlover, Everything Fades Away, Without You, the list goes on. Not to mention the remixes and how their vocal arrangements lift them to complete new heights. What a loss they were. We love Maryann but she's not a patch on those girls. It was the Loverboy video that had me thinking "WTAF?" But here a thing: I *do* remember wishing that Heartbreaker Remix was not a remix at all but had dropped the Heartbreaker theme and been a stand alone song called something else. I felt exactly the same about My All / Stay A While. They sound so standalone I wonder why they weren't individual songs and capitalised upon. (Tuesday 1 August 2023; 13:09)

I don't think she doesn't care though, I personally think she's got more mental health issues than we understand, which might be stopping her from living a healthy life all the time. Let's be honest these stars don't live normal lives, they all go a bit crazy after a while. But [you're] right she needs people to tell her too, I'm sure she's well aware of the state of her voice right now, but definitely having someone else to tell her to get her stuff together might help hit home more. Who knows it's difficult to really know what's going on tbh. It's been clear since [Heartbreaker] remix video that something clearly changed in her persona and then the whole breakdown in 2001, she's never been the same Mariah since. We've had good moments but majority of the time she's come across as erratic and distracted, a far call from who she once was. So I think it's more her demons and mental health stopping her from fully getting herself together. Mariah's version (103,104) by Edward from USA When she was defrosting leading up to last Christmas, she had ample time to be ready for decent performances during the first few shows, but we saw how unprepared she was. How many wake up calls does she need? The gay pride performance was painful to watch. It seems to be she doesn't really care anymore, which is perfectly fine. I don't see anything wrong with her enjoying the time with her family and retire with dignity. I just don't want her to keep embarrassing herself during these random performances. While the "yass queen" fans love it when she embarrass herself like that, I, instead, feel bad for her and her impressive catalog. You can clearly see on Mariah's face that she sings most of it live. Some parts are lipped, yes, but those eye brows movements she can never replicate when she is lip synching, it's live for the most part. Mariah has to make decision in her life, to get healthier, work on her voice, if she really wants to impress people again. Or she can do whatever she's doing right now, and not being able to sing the easiest songs live, lip almost everything of every song. I don't know if she is content with status quo, living the best life with her kids. I have a feeling ever since she was married with Tommy Mottola, that practicing, rehearsing has become something that only bring out bad memories, that she has simply quit doing it, because she was forced to while married. But come on, it's been 25 years, time to move on. I just can't fathom that a person who was once known as one the best singers in the world, with an unbelievable range, can be happy with not being able to sing a tune anymore. I think it's her own doing as in not looking after herself, drinking and smoking. Maybe if she was to pull out all the stops. Clean up and get some serious vocal coaching and medical expertise I'd like to think we could get better quality vocals. Maybe now she's focusing, she's lost a lot of weight recently so who knows she might be realising if she doesn't do something now then it's over. Happy 30th anniversary to Dreamlover (103,084) by MC1989 from Spain Though I always liked the song, and the stunningly beautiful young and carefree Curlyriah in the video, it was never one of my favourite tracks, but It sure grew on me over the years. I love the sample from The Emotions' Blind Alley, combined with Mariah's voice at her peak, and the single cover which I still have and still is one of my favourite pictures from her. The Def Club Mix was and still is one of her best remixes in my opinion. I remember hearing the song in the radio here in Spain even until the early 00's. (Thursday 27 July 2023; 21:19)

Charmbracelet tour (103,085) by Jamie from UK Just watching the Charmbracelet tour, I was lucky enough to go to this twice. I remember how great her voice was and watching it back now it's amazing how relaxed she is, considering it wasn't long after the breakdown she has more confidence there than I think she does now, her voice was in good shape and she appeared relaxed and in control. Maybe she was compliant with her meds then having been newly diagnosed who knows but hopefully she can get back to this. (Thursday 27 July 2023; 21:46)
