It was lovely to see Mariah acting so humble, she seemed calm and together here. I hope she takes comfort in the fact she's a respected artist and sees these great singers singing her songs and thinks how important her craft is, and not focus so much on how she looks, and gets back to what she does best. She's seemed like her old self sat there and didn't come across as a diva.

Patti killed it as expected and Jennifer Hudson tore up "Vision of Love". I [loved] that declaration Jhud said before the final note "we love you" and [indeed] we do Mariah.

I was actually thinking of the E=MC2 era and particularly the TMB video and the presenting of the Friday Night Project. Mariah was so animated and fun. Can you imagine what the show would be like if she presented TFNP now? Well Jamie wouldn't have gone, for a start lol and I might get his name right. I'm an idiot.

Well said Ed. How many singers are no longer here because too many yes people around them? Part of being human is being able to take criticism so you can grow and continue to live a positive life. Being famous is even harder as [you're] living in a completely different world and it's more important to remember who you are and to be able to take criticism.

People on this board love Mariah and have given her some great advice. If there were only "yasss queen" lambs posting here, Mariah would still be believing she was fooling anyone. All the "yasss queen" sites disappeared for a reason. Mariah is a musical genius, she should be held to higher standards. I'm glad she probably reading this board since she seems to be doing some of things recommended here.

I watched Mariah's performance and I really enjoyed it. She can still sing it's not like when she came out in the nineties but she can still sing her face off. She was even trying to do something a little bit different to let the audience know that hey I can still sing and I am singing live not all was live but most of it was. I would like to know what you guys think. Do you think she was singing live or was she lipping it? Well I love Mariah I have loved her since day one. She is incomparable. Mariah Carey often duplicated never imitated. You guys also have to remember that all these young girls like Christina (42), Britney (41), Jessica (43), Beyoncé (42) and so forth studied Mariah so they can be like her. I often come on this board but hardly ever post anything but when she does a good job I would like to leave a positive message to up lift her. Let her know that her die hard fans like me are with her. Everyone has a right to feel how they want and say what they want this is a free country. I have always been one of her biggest fans because I have always wanted to sing and I love singers with big voices. I love you Mariah you are such an inspiration.

The question is do you really have a life if you have to come on here and give such a negative response to a post. I simply stated I won't be going to the concert, if that really offends and triggers you then you're the one that needs to evaluate if you have a life or not.

Bryan Tanaka (104,098)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
There's a rumour that Bryan Tanaka was arrested a few months ago in Brazil for his involvement in a scam several years ago (pre-Mariah). Not sure if it's true or completely made up, but that would explain his absence recently and subsequent removal from her Instagram. Or, they may have simply broken up. It happens.
As for the Christmas concerts, I'm not even going to waste my time watching the videos. It's the same thing we see every year. Like you all, I fear for Mariah's wellbeing and whatever she is battling. But continuing the charade is not helping anyone. The truth will come out one day I suppose.

As always beautiful written Mara. You described it so well with the "auto pilot". I also think her inner sparkle is missing. Last year it was there and she was shining. Yes, maybe she's just tired. I hope she's okay. I also wondered that there are no new pics with Bryan. Of course it's private but usually they post pics during Thanksgiving and the Christmas season. We'll see. I hope she's ready for the concerts and can enjoy it with the lambily.

I have to agree with this Bradley. There is something missing this year or season I should say. She looks like she is going through the motions and is perhaps on "auto pilot". I hope she is ok. Her sparkle is a miss this year and I can feel it almost like the first year at the Beacon where she geared up singing Hero and she was separated from Nick. I wonder if her and Bryan took a break to see how things went and decided to officially end the relationship recently. I just hope she is ok. This is her time and she always has that sparkle in her eye and seeing her almost blank makes me sad. Maybe she is just tired of this and not in the mood this season. It happens to all of us. But as a day one 1990 fan, M always wears her heart on her sleeve and we can read her better than anyone else. We love you Mariah - go out there and have some amazing shows making amazing memories with your beautiful children by your side.

It's a darn shame that the following tracks didn't have the features included on the official album versions: 1) UOMF - Nicki Minaj 2) Whenever you call - Brian McKnight 3) Against all odds/Take a look at me now - Westlife
There are a few features I could have done without on the album release, these three are ones I wish were included on the official album release every time I listen to the respective albums in full.

I'm gonna be in NYC on 9th December with work. I'm not sure if to go see Mariah at [Madison Square Garden]. Firstly [because] I've had too many holidays this year and need to save. And also mainly [because] I don't want to go and be disappointed. I've seen the Christmas show already and have been lucky enough to go the Daydream, Rainbow and Charmbracelet, Sweet Sweet Fantasy and #1's tours. I missed the [Caution] tour due to being away for my mums 70th. I'm worried if I go and she's not up to par it will upset me and don't really wanna see her not being able to hit the notes. Maybe it's best I hold onto the memories. What [do] you guys think?

Just rewatched Proctor's Theatre and a bit puzzled by the inclusing of the B&W clip of Mariah on stage singing Hero in what is clearly a professionally edited scene.
Was this the original Hero video? Possibly canned by Tommy Mottola in favour of the real live-ish version? You would think surely that they would not have gone to all that trouble for a 30 second not-even-closer for the special.

Mariah has a Spotify taping with fans in LA in early November. She is also rumored to make a big announcement before her Christmas tour starts and have a big collaboration coming up. Could the fabled "Themed Album" be another Christmas album? Whereas a third Christmas album would be crazy even for Mariah, it also could be her safest album venture. Mariah is smart and knows her albums don't sell anymore but she also knows that she holds special magical powers during the holiday season. It's a long shot but maybe she's recorded another holiday album with a lot of collaborations? Either way - something is a'brewing.

It’s A Wrap 12" (103,742)
by Jamie from UK
| |

Is a 12" release really necessary or wanted? I get it was popular on TikTok but it's not like it broke the charts. I find Mariah fixates on something these days even when the moment has passed it desperate need for it to be popular. I wish she would fixate on getting herself back to a calm and controlled person again rather than being erratic and not being able to just have a conversation.

Reflections of my expectations have come to wither (103,655)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
Mariah is a cultural and music icon, she's known around the world and continues to be known. She might not be as popular as she was in her hey day but neither have any of the other legacy music icons. There comes a time when they are no longer as popular but it doesn't mean they are no longer liked and respected for their work. Even Madonna who I loved in the early days is making a bit of a fool of herself these days but the legacy is still there. God forbid anything was to happy to her or even Mariah at some point people will remember them for the successes they had in their prime and those that have stayed loyal fans will remember everything. You can't undo history, Mariah was an absolutely huge artist for a long time and no one will forget that. And she's still present today not many can say that. I use to worry if she wasn't popular anymore but I've come to the realization that we can't control time and every artist has their mainstream time. I'm now just happy to have appreciated her music and continue to listen to it, both in anticipation and in reflection.

Firstly, I want to thank everyone for being respectful in their replies. I think the problem is me. I love and believe in MCs artistry so much I want her to be a cultural and music icon. Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Joni Mitchell and Stevie Wonder. The amount of respect and weight those names carry is what I wanted for MC. Anything that feels cheap, exploitive, desperate, or narrowing, grates my nerves. I want MC to be a cultural and musical icon. And listen, I'm hard on Madonna for the same reason, popping out her nipple, fillers and dating 28 year olds while 60 is destroying her legacy. I probably need a break from the board. I'm getting too invested again. Once again, for me the house is on fire and no one in the party smells smoke. I'll go enjoy the music in the way it always has brought me comfort, nostalgia and distant fellowship. Have I mentioned I'm bipolar?

Totally off the mark Mariah has delivered this year alone with Music Box 30, news of a new album next year and the Rarities a couple years back. Mariah is defo in on the whole defrosting thing and why shouldn't she, a fantastic song that everyone loves and now a mini tour to go with it for the USA lambs. Just because she's huge at Christmas time does not make any of her other music and less important. Christmas time is one if not the biggest times of the year, she's always loved Christmas why should now be any different.

She said it herself on her Facebook concert promo. "Yes, the actual defrosting has begun." If she's fine with being frozen from January 2 - October 31 each year, why am I arguing for her legacy. I'll join the lambs. Yaaassss Mariah. Hit number one again. AIWFCIY is the best thing you've ever done. It's your signature song. It's the only part of your catalogue that matters. My queens slays 9 weeks every year. AIWFCIY has won 28 Grammys, gotten you into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and won you a video vanguard. Your legacy just like your voice is completely intact. The greats (103,619)
by Andrew from the UK

Jamie I really do hope social media does one. It is horrid and vile. I dabbled in Facebook, Insta and X for a few months each in my time but my anxiety levels rose sharply, I was becoming addicted, falling down the rabbit hole many times.
There was something magical about owning hardcopies of film and music media. My Mariah CD collection was a pride and a joy. Purchasing and adding a release to it was an event, not least the excitement and anticipation of going to Woolworths to buy it. And buy it with cash or a bank card. Handing over something physical to receive something physical in exchange allowed for a consideration of loss and gain within the transaction. As it is now, there is no true measurement of success or popularity, perhaps.
I recognise how much of a dinosaur that makes me sound.Yet there a feeling of emptiness that streaming gives me. If something were to feature in social media ads or commentary, I will, like others, open Spotify immediately to play it. I would suggest that rather than hearing it on the radio and then committing to a journey to purchase it, the way of streaming is unrepresenative of how good something it. If something requires no significant commitment then artists' careers simply become self-perpetuating. The likes of Taylor Swift would not have survived in the 90's because their output is not as good, and the commitment from the end user would not have materialised.
That Mariah was so popular 1990 - 2010 is something quire remarkable.

Will Christmas music, itself, survive the new modern era of downloads and social media? As on a bell curve, the peak in Christmas music "resurging" every year must surely have come and will one day be gone. Can you really not envisage a world where the kids say no to Christmas music and embrace the influx of multi-varied offers?

by Andrew from the UK

My brothers fell in love with Mariah Carey the same time I did, albeit not so much. This was 93/94. My father liked singers, not bands, also. My brothers took me to Mariah in London in February 2000 for Rainbow - mostly because I made them. Even then, none of their friends made fun. Seeing Mariah Carey was an event. No shame.
I wonder: what were the three comments you received? What do your friends and family think now? We have had our ups and downs, you and I. But I think it quite something that for 25 years you have kept something like this going. Not least, the latter half of that incorrectly correcting my grammar.
If I could suggest something: some new colours and new layour would work.
