Seriously? (36,523)

I think you guys should cut Desiree some slack. Her list was clearly not in order of who is the best at anything. Dolly Parton, Madonna, and Anita Baker are nowhere close to each other in audience, voice, sound, etc, etc, but they were 6th, 7th, and 8th on her list. She was clearly just listing her favorite people in no particular order with an emphasis on what quality each brought to the table that was more unique than anyone else. Unlucky for her it came across the way it did, but I think she's gotten the point and no longer needs to be bullied. She came up with an excuse to defend her post, because you guys are being unreasonable, and unfortunately it backfired. So she was misunderstood and I think we've all been there and can relate and it's time to move on.

Rihanna is the real deal (36,473)

After the first couple of songs that Rihanna came out with, I quickly realized that she had just as much potential as Mariah in terms of radio success. Rihanna has a perfect listenable radio voice. She has dominated radio since 2005, and has put out an album almost every year since, which is something rare in these times. She has always scared me because she does have the ability to have #1 success to the levels of Mariah. I don't get why people here are surprised by where she stands on the pop charts. She has had unprecedented success in the past seven years, much like Mariah in the early's 90's, but mainly on the pop charts. I could rattle off 24 or 25 successful Rihanna singles or songs featuring her. That's a ridiculous amount in 7 years and alot more than Mariah had from 1992-1999 which is the beginning of the chart period in question. After 1999, Mariah has really only had one successful album on the pop charts with TEOM. Rihanna is the real deal and regardless of her public image these days, she still has and is delivering the goods. I think she's refreshing and she certainly has made listening to the radio alot more fun in the past seven years.

Minaj / I Am Free / If It's Over at SNL (36,455)

1) American Idol should never have hired Minaj. As producers, they should make sure that the panel has the correct chemistry. They signed Mariah first to nail down a major talent and to me Mariah should have had say over who she will be working with. If she had a beef with Minaj, that should have been the end of it. Anything that happens from here on out is the producers fault amplified by Nicki's immature over-the-top behaviour. Mariah is now stuck dealing with a bleak situation. 2) After all these years, I think I've finally decided that my favorite vocal is I Am Free. The song has all of the ranges, it's sultry, the harmonies are spot on, it's compartmentalized into perfect sections, the production is fantastic and breezy, it's gospel-tinged, its incredibly difficult to sing, her belting is spine tingling, and its climax is pure gold. I have many second place songs (Outside, Butterfly, Without You, And You Don't Remember, Forever) but this one takes the cake. 3) Recently, for the nostalgia, I've been going back to old YouTube concerts and videos and I think my favorite of those has got to be If It's Over from SNL. Since I love SNL, it literally had everything. Wally A, Trey, old-school Randy Jackson, and the SNL house band, since the song was structured based on the SNL band's closing music for the show. I could watch it every day.

Trainwreck (36,278)

The NFL spectacle was horrendous. The video montage was self-deprecating and not really funny or entertaining. When she came on, she was barely audible and the song just sounded all over the place. She has so much background vocals and noise going on, you can't distinguish her actual live singing. The dancers surrounding her were pretty awful and the entire scene reminded me of the scene in Glitter when they are filming the music video and the dancers were awkwardly prancing around her and getting in her way. Honestly, the whole time I was watching it I was making a Home Alone face.
