Mariah Carey wraps up her Christmas tour

It's been 25 years since she released her now iconic album Merry Christmas. And on Sunday night, Mariah Carey wrapped up her 2019 All I Want For Christmas Is You Tour with a final performance at New York's Madison Square Garden. The pop superstar, 49, put on quite a show with several costume changes, a gospel choir, a sky-high Christmas tree and plenty of festive tunes.

Mariah had kicked off the five-city tour in November at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas where's she's been in residency. This month, she has played concerts in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Uncasville, Connecticut, Boston, Massachusetts, before the grand finale at Madison Square Garden. This comes as her album Merry Christmas, which she re-released to mark its 25th anniversary, heads towards the top of the charts.

On Thursday, Amazon Music posted a short video in which Mariah talks about why the festive season is so important to her and how she created her famous holiday song. "I have such an emotional connection to Christmas," she explained. "And it wasn't about the gifts. It was just about the hopefulness of the holiday season and just feeling, like, in the spirit, and the need for me to express myself and make a song that made me feel happy at the holidays," she said.

When it came to writing All I Want For Christmas Is You, she said she watched the classic film It's A Wonderful Life at her home in upstate New York and that provided the inspiration. "It's grown in popularity over the years, and that's the thing that's amazing to me about this song," she added.

Following the concert, Mariah headed to a late dinner at New York's Tao Downtown with her children and backup dancer and boyfriend Bryan Tanaka, 36. The songstress was still wearing the low-cut shimmery red dress she wore for the last part of her Christmas concert and added a white ostrich feather wrap.

Her eight-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan, whom she shares with ex-husband Nick Cannon, were bundled up against the chilly weather. Moroccan had on a blue puffer coat with jeans and sneakers while Monrow had on a pink hooded jacket over red Christmas-themed PJs and pink boots.

Mariah will likely be heading to Aspen, Colorado, soon where she traditionally spends Christmas each year. She will resume her Vegas residency in February.
