Re: Mariah sang on Eminem's "Superman" (98,515) (98,516) by lil star from untied states
Listening back to it now (his parts) he definitely changed the lyrics after Mariah worked on it. He definitely threw in some jabs at her after the fact. I wonder what the original song sounded like. There's the link to the highlights of the interview. The Mariah and song Superman start at 1:30.

Mariah sang on Eminem's "Superman" (98,515) by lil star from untied states
So singer Dina Rae, who is the vocalist on Eminem's song Superman, confirmed that Mariah was the original vocalist. We all used to think that this was a Mariah diss track but it was some sort of meta moment I guess. The singer Dina says that Mariah was the reference vocal. I always liked the sound of that song and would love to hear Mariah's husky vocals and playful coos on the song. What do you guys think? Would we want to hear it?

Re: Dear Delulons (95,253) (95,273) by lil star from untied states
There's a interesting little doc where they talk about Mariah's voice that I think anyone who is interested or debates the voice should watch. They give good insight as to what she was good at and what she wasn't and unhealthily habits she has.

Re: Buzz? (83,859) (83,863) by lil star from untied states
I would normally agree with you on the buzz single situation but this time I don't. But I don't fully disagree haha let me explain. In this one case I think GTFO was truly released as a buzz single but I think the reason they did so was to keep Mariah happy. GTFO is a song you know Mariah truly loves it has everything current Mimi likes. Slow jam r&b a few silly lyrics. So what do you do? You give your artist the buzz single. Shut her up and keep her happy and put out the label's pick as the "lead" single . It's kind of how Tommy would give Mariah the b-side (My All/ Breakdown ect).

New album / ep mixtape (80,478) by lil star from untied states
I think Mariah should release a quick ep or mixtape 1) to get her voice out there again for fans and new listeners and 2) to get rid of all the tracks she's been working on and holding on to. She needs to start fresh (we all know Mariah gets into a sound and vibe for each album and is super cohesive, to a fault sometimes) so letting those tracks go will free her to start over creatively.

On the pulse... new spark (77,627) by lil star from untied states
I feel like at times Mariah still has great ideas, she just doesn't have that collaborator that inspires her. Like she did the "#Hermosa" (#Beautiful) remix and now look the Spanish movement is here. It was just a bad remix and uninspired. It could have been big with a proper beat and crossover collab. She needs to find a new collaborator that can hear her ideas and push them. We had the awesome songs with Walter and then JD and he changed her sound and she's been with him since. It's time for the next movement, new sparks, new sound, new teammate. But Mariah is loyal to a fault.

One off shows (76,732) by lil star from untied states
I don't feel like the vocals were as horrid as people led me to expect. But that being said there is a huge difference when Mariah does one off shows and concert tours like Vegas and Christmas. I just don't think she puts in the practice and warm ups needed. And I don't belive she does her run throughs. To me it sounds like she just goes up with no direction and throws around notes and hope they land. Kind of like if you go sing at a random karaoke bar and don't know how the sound is and pick a song you know but have never done before. She shouldn't do the one off shows if she's not going to put in the work.

New artist Leah McFall (74,479) by lil star from untied states
I think some of the newer lambs would like her. There's no doubt Mariah influenced her vocal style (mainly in how she plays with her voice on record, using it as part of the background and production). But she's also found a way to change it enough to not get coping Mariah backlash. Listen to "Happy Human" and most of her covers are amazing listen to "Try Again" cover. She was on the voice and now went more independent.

Lets lay off Bryan haha (74,247) by lil star from untied states
We need to lay off the Bryan weather or not we think he's right for her, she seems to be enjoying his company. Nobody liked Nick at first and now people changed there [sic] tune about him. I think for Mariah it's not about the money there are a lot of similarities between Bryan and Nick, there [sic] both kinda goofy and you always see them laughing and with a smile and maybe tha'ts what she likes. She's done it all and been all over the world maybe doing stuff with Bryan and his excitement for all the new stuff he gets to experience is infectious to her.

The Art of Letting Go (74,034) by lil star from untied states
Did anyone else dislike this song? It is her worst ballad in my eyes. Wasn't catchy had zero emotion behind it. The only thing I liked was that it gave us some of the last great vocal moments we got (I still play her impromptu performance to people that say she can't sing anymore). I guess the song allowed her to play around more with her vocals since it had no melody to speak of. I was kind of shocked when people started saying they loved it. I've at least gotten some drunken night plays out of "I Don't" and "You're Mine". I'm ignoring Infinity all together haha.

Wasted songs , should have been singles (73,717) by lil star from untied states
The album with the most wasted potential was E=MC2, Side Effects comes to mind as a big wasted moment. That song has stuck with me since I first heard it (having come out of an abusive relationship at the time ). I think so many people can relate to it (not living in a mansion with chandeliers lol) the whole concept of being damaged but moving on in your life ahhh it could have been a great moment for non fans to get to know that side of Mariah. What songs do you think were wasted?

Jazz album / Lana Del Rey (73,467) by lil star from untied states
The more I think about it a jazz album (or jazz influenced album) would be great. Mariah's voice seems more fluid and built for jazz right now. I think when we think of a jazz album we're thinking old, but she can still keep it younger and hip in a way. Lana Del Reys early songs paired jazz vocals with hip beats. Give "Off to the races" and "Million dollar man" a listen and you will see what I mean. If Mariah did that type of a record it could blow up because it's so different for her and it's more adult in sound (maybe not a #1 but top 40, even 20). And Mariah has a better voice than Lana so imagine what she could do. Ahhh I can dream at least.

Current voice (72,801) by lil star from untied states
So I feel like if Mariah changes up her singing style she can get more respect again. I feel like that ultra smooth pretty quality Mariah had to her voice is gone (besides when she's in whisper tone) but she has that raspy husky tone that is amazing in a different way. She should embrace that more her voice at times now is giving me Lauryn Hill vibes. I just think she's lost her pop voice her vocals play better to r&b and jazz more and when she plays within that realm she has great moments. Hope she plays to her new strengths going into the next album

Re: Vision of Love at Jimmy Kimmel (72,769) (72,772) by lil star from untied states
Yes I agree, I feel like she was still nervous and holding back allot. But I can tell she is slowly building her confidence back which even though she's a legend I get why she's so nervous. Hopefully this helped her because so far reviews are good for the performances she just needs to work harder to get her voice in a good place. I still think she needs to slightly update VOL.

Dream next album... realistically (72,274) by lil star from untied states
I would add production from Timbaland and Missy and also Pharrell Williams to that album also haha. My 2 dream album: a more soulful album kinda more singer songwriter Adele ish vibes of Rolling In The Deep, with some hip hop beats mixed in kinda Lana Del Rey Born To Die style, and the raw ness of Amy Winehouse Back To Black and Rihanna Anti. A bit more angry of an album with Mariah playing with her lower tone and growls more. Subjects touching her family drama, divorce (the sadness of feeling like she became her mother and father), the miscarriage (a song to her unborn child kinda an anthem to all women who have been through that). Feeling unloved and abandoned (her love life is a mess haha) most songs done in a few takes only more live instruments guitar, piano and live drum. Production from the Roots, Bruno Mars, Frank Ocean, Rick Nowels, Justin Parker, Mark Robson, the Weeknd, DJ Mustard, Bhasker Glass, Hit Boy, Rick Rubin, and Paul Epworth. No features besides famous guitar or piano players or samples like a Carlos Santana ext.

Dream next album... realistically (72,270) by lil star from untied states
I think we all reach for the clouds sometimes with what we want Mariah to do (I don't think she will ever work with Calvin Harris or sia), what's a realistic dream album you have? Ok mine 1) a pop album visiting Honey, Heartbreaker, Fantasy vibes mixed in with some disco vibes from the last album ala You Don't Know What To Do. Megan Trainer vibe is throwback pop with bits of r&b hip hop. Producers/colabos JD (1 or 2 songs tops), Qtip, The Roots, The Weeknd (kinda In The Night vibe) Diddy, Bruno Mars. The only features being Jay Z, Lil Kim, the Weeknd and finally a song with Justin Timberlake, and Sean Paul. Most songs being upbeat but with more deep lyrics. One song sampling a 2 Pac song tying to that mag interview where she said she ran into him. And a cover version of Ain't No Way by Aretha Franklin.

Re: General public (72,194) (72,227) by lil star from untied states
Yes I can agree. Idk if the disconnect between the hard core fans speaks more to how high we have the bar for her or how low the general public has for her at this point. I think if this was just an album cut we would all be fine with the song for sure. But I am glad that non fans are receiving it well. I even heard it play at a club here last night. A first for new Mariah music (I'm used to hearing Honey or Heartbreaker in a little throwback club moment). Still hoping for her to change it up and surprise us again.

General public (72,181) by lil star from untied states
It's so strange that outside of this message board (and most of the main stream media) that the new song and even video are getting allot of love. My Facebook stream (mostly gays) is flooded with positive reviews and remarks from "slay mamma", "slaying the looks", "speaking my feelings", "love this song my new jam". Most from people that have never said they were even fans of MC and some that even hate her. I'm guessing there's a disconnect between the hard core fans and the public. Also most of those people are the same people obsessed with Kim K and family lol. Not saying I'm fully on board but I also don't hate everything. The song is good, not great, not bad. The video isn't horrible besides a few outfits and awkward movements. I'm hoping this is a small step in a better direction. But we all need to give up on Mariah going classy anytime soon. If she does make an album this is her last chance to act young and maybe she knows it too.

New song (71,723) by lil star from untied states
So is it the most innovative song? No. is it horrible ala Infinity? No. It's just a rough snippet so far I'll give it a chance on Sunday. And it's not like there to out of touch per say. Allot of artist are doing throwback numbers to the 90s early 2000s (hell Kehlani's new album that just came out is basically a love letter to the 90s early 2000s ) but I think for us as fans we wanted something different. For us it is the same sounding song rehashed a little bit WBT mixed with YMI and at this point the same lyrics used over and over again. It's a song for the general public and not her fans. I think we want her to get personal again, to us her best moments are when she talks about her personal struggles and we relate vs when she tries to make generic songs and relate to us. Like with "Cry" we could tell that song was personal to her, and some of us could relate to it.

Re: Over and over again (71,625) (71,630) by lil star from untied states
I agree she needs to change her sound but I don't agree that it has to be uptempo per say. A lot of artists have had hits with mid tempo songs they just have a good beat behind it . Rihanna's whole last album was midtempo but it had an edge to it that people couldn't resist. Maybe that's what JD ment by hard? Maybe we are getting a more angry Mariah? Maybe a darker one? She has shown more interest in that sound with all the Weeknd buzz. Maybe it's not the sound we were hoping (I think everyone was hoping for a more disco pop sound that she played with on YDKWTD and Meteorite).

Jojo's new album (68,543) by lil star from untied states
I think if Mariah made an album like Jojo's new one it could work for her. It's still r&b but mixes elements of current music and sounds. It's different enough without alienating her fan base. Jojo while a younger artist tried to go into dance music and while it was good no body bought it and it turned into a mix tape.

If We (65,954) by lil star from untied states
I never knew all the drama behind the song (I didn't have much Internet access back then). I did always like the song when Glitter came out, and noticed the similar sound and theme to "I'm real". You have to wonder what could have been if Mariah had been able to put the song out first. It would have been a hit for sure and got its rightfully credit for creating a sound. The sound of that year. But it also goes to show that Mariah can always create the next big sound. Here's hoping she gets creative again and makes another sound movement

Re: WTF? (64,980) (64,984) by lil star from untied states
Let's calm down, clearly the one standing up in the middle is also African American, and the one with the tattoos is mixed. Also let's not forget Mariah herself is of mixed race. Let's not be dramatic and try to read into something not there just because it's a social hot topic.

Everyone lip sings (49,732) by lil star from untied states
I cant understand why Mimi is the only singer that gets huge backlash from a performance. Every current singer lip sings in shows unfortunately Mimi is trying to fit in the the current industry. Even Beyonce always lip sings.

Left off songs / Hope Street / Walter Afanasieff (43,164) by lil star from untied states
First of all I want to say I'm super excited for the album but I can't help but be a little sad that one of the songs I was most excited to hear is missing, "Hope Street". After hearing the description "It is awesome, experimental, and sounds like a Joni Mitchell record on steroids. Mariah uses the lower register of her voice to an amazing effect." Couldn't she have left of "The art of letting go" and put it on? And I'm wondering if any of these songs is the Walter collabo we have been dreaming about.
