Katy Perry may have gone to space, but Mariah Carey is in her own atmosphere. Nearly four months after the "ET" singer's Blue Origin space expedition alongside Gayle King and Lauren Sánchez and more, the "Obsessed" singer admitted she was unaware of the whole thing.
"Did she go to space?" Mariah asked of Katy during BBC Radio's Scott Mills Breakfast Show August 7. "Where'd she go? Into orbit and back?" Despite the massive news cycle surrounding the expedition, Mariah was taken aback by the information, adding, "She's like floating? And this is true?"
However, once it was confirmed, Mariah was proud of her fellow pop star. "Wow, alright Katy," the 56-year-old added. "I'm not mad at her. That's pretty amazing." As for whether the Grammy winner would ever consider popping into orbit herself? Not likely. As she put it, "I think I've done enough."
Mariah is far from the only star to share her reaction to the Jeff Bezos-funded flight. In fact, Katy herself addressed the mixed reactions she received following the April 14 expedition.
"I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond," she wrote to fans on an April 29 Instagram post. "I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year! Please know I am ok, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me."
And while Mariah is fine staying on Earth, Katy previously said the 11-minute space orbit was a dream of hers.
"I have wanted to go to space for almost 20 years," she explained to Elle in an April 2 interview. "I was investigating all of the possible commercial options. Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, 'Sign me up! I'm first in line.' And then they called me, and I was like, 'Really? I get an invite?'"
