Mariah kept from a new No. 1 smash on several charts

Mariah Carey is preparing to release her sixteenth studio album, Here For It All, which is expected this September. She has already introduced two singles from the project, "Type Dangerous" and the latest, "Sugar Sweet", a collaboration with Shenseea and Kehlani. This frame, "Sugar Sweet" debuts on several Billboard charts, and it nearly returns Carey to No. 1 on lists she has ruled before.

"Sugar Sweet" launches at No. 2 on both the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales and R&B Digital Song Sales charts. On each tally, Carey and her collaborators are edged out by Chris Brown's "It Depends", which also credits Bryson Tiller.

With her latest entry, Carey earns her eighth top 10 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales tally and her seventeenth top 10 on the R&B Digital Song Sales list. Throughout her career, she has racked up a milestone 25 hits on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart and two more on the broader R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales ranking.

Mariah Carey has scored a trio of leaders on both lists she revisits this week, but different tunes have spent time at the summit. On the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart, "Big Energy" (led by Latto, it once credited Carey) spent five weeks at No. 1. "Type Dangerous" and "Oh Santa!" with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson each ruled for a week. On the R&B Digital Song Sales chart, "Oh Santa!", "Type Dangerous", and "#Beautiful" with Miguel all reached No. 1.

Though it debuts inside the top 10 on several sales charts, "Sugar Sweet" starts at No. 17 on the Hot R&B Songs list, which ranks the most consumed R&B cuts in the U.S. Despite Carey's success in the genre, she has only placed 14 tracks on the roster, though that's because it wasn't introduced until long after many of her most famous cuts enjoyed their moments on the charts.

As "Sugar Sweet" begins its time on the charts, "Type Dangerous" is slipping on several rankings, while rising on others. The solo affair jumps from No. 4 to No. 2 in its eighth week on Adult R&B Airplay roster, and it may soon give Carey another No. 1 on that list.
