Mariah Carey wows Sandringham with dazzling set

Fans clad in Mariah Carey t-shirts roamed King Charles' Sandringham Estate on Friday evening as the American superstar headlined Heritage Live. At 9.02pm sharp, easing fears of a diva-style delay, Mariah Carey appeared in a glittering gold sequin dress complete with gold knee-high boots.

Greeted by huge cheers from the crowd and flanked by a troupe of flawlessly choreographed male dancers, she launched into three up-tempo numbers, opening with her latest release, Type Dangerous.

Dubbed the "Songbird Supreme" for her five-octave range and whistle register, Carey then slipped seamlessly into ballad territory with Can't Let Go and I'll Be There.

At 56, she may not have quite the same vocal agility as in her heyday, but she remains a formidable performer, still capable of soaring notes, heartfelt delivery and moments of real vocal magic.

Over the 90-minute set, Carey dazzled in four different outfits, each more sparkly than the last, while her dancers entertained and archive footage of her younger self played on the big screen.

Hero and Without You provided emotional highlights, and the audience were treated to a barrage of classics, including Fantasy, Always Be My Baby and Heartbreaker.

For anyone wondering, Christmas didn't come early to Sandringham, and All I Want For Christmas Is You was left off the setlist. It was a mesmerising night at the Sandringham Estate.
