Shoppers at the newly opened Erewhon upscale grocery store in West Hollywood got a surprise celebrity sighting when Mariah Carey was spotted inside the store pushing an empty shopping cart and posing for photos with fans.
Carey was seen in West Hollywood, where witnesses say the singer briefly stopped to take pictures with people inside the luxury grocery market located at 8550 Santa Monica Blvd Suite 100.
Photos shared on social media by Drew Staten, Adam Ceschin and Emma Kennedy show the Grammy-winning singer inside the store wearing a leather Louis Vuitton jacket designed by Nicolas Ghesquière, the French-Belgian designer who serves as the brand's artistic director of women's collections.
"This wouldn't have happened at Trader Joe's," Kennedy joked in a caption accompanying one of the photos. According to a source who witnessed the encounter, Carey was asked why she had stopped by the store and responded simply, "I don't know."
The West Hollywood location of Erewhon opened in February, marking the company's newest expansion in Los Angeles County. The high-end market has become known for drawing celebrity shoppers and social media attention for its premium grocery items and prepared foods.
