Mariah Carey teases unearthed vocal takes

Mariah Carey has teased previously unreleased vocal recordings for the upcoming 25th-anniversary edition of Glitter, giving fans another reason to look forward to the expanded release. In a message shared through her mailing list, the pop icon revealed that the anniversary project will include unearthed vocal takes from songs on the 2001 soundtrack, which is set to receive its new edition on October 30, 2026.

"I'll just say... there are some unearthed vocal takes to some of the songs. I'm always reluctant to share these takes because there's a reason they weren't released in the first place but I hope you enjoy them because they're an anniversary treat," Mariah Carey wrote.

The anniversary campaign has already brought several tracks from the Glitter era back into the spotlight. On October 17, Mariah Carey released the "Loverboy" remix featuring Da Brat, Ludacris, Shawnna and Twenty II, alongside its music video. The expanded version revisits one of the soundtrack's best-known songs, which originally incorporated elements of Cameo's 1984 hit "Candy".

Mariah Carey has also released a new version of "Didn't Mean to Turn You On" featuring Canadian singer-songwriter Rochelle Jordan, offering a contemporary reinterpretation of another track from the soundtrack.

Originally released on September 11, 2001, Glitter served as the soundtrack to Carey's film of the same name. The album debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 with 116,000 copies sold in its first week, but its commercial performance unfolded amid difficult circumstances that overshadowed the project. In the years since, the soundtrack has gained a stronger appreciation among fans, many of whom have continued to advocate for its legacy within her discography.

"Loverboy" remains one of the defining moments of the album's commercial history. Despite a difficult start on the Billboard Hot 100, the single climbed to No. 2 after a promotional campaign helped boost sales, eventually becoming the best-selling single in the United States in 2001. Its story has since become part of the broader conversation surrounding the challenges Carey faced during the Glitter era.
