Mariah signs with Island Def Jam
Singing superstar Mariah Carey has signed a deal to form her own record label with Island Def Jam Music Group. The busty blonde had been searching for a new musical home after accepting a $28 million payout to leave EMI's Virgin label early after disappointing sales of her latest LP Glitter. According to music industry publication Billboard, the native New Yorker will release her tracks under a yet-to-be-named imprint run by Jerry Blair, who worked with the diva during her Columbia Records days in the early '90s.
