Glitter - my wish for MC in 2026 (113,509)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |

|
Yes, I saw the movie twice with my friends at my hometown. I was a teen back then. We had a good time at the cinema, we almost had the cinema hall for ourself. I still have the cinema magazine and ticket. I have also poignant memories, it was the time the carefree 90ies really finally ended because of 9/11. But back to MC, I love Glitter the album, the movie is okay, it's not so bad. I have it on DVD, it was also my first DVD, it was quite expensive.

Glitter - my wish for MC in 2026 (113,504)

According to Wikipedia, Glitter opened in 1,202 theaters while The Bodyguard opened in 1,717 theaters. Although less than The Bodyguard but Glitter wasn't a "limited release" in any sense.

Lame photos? (113,495)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I love the "It's like that" cover. We all know that Mariah is beautiful so a cover that has a little more art on it is welcome. I listen a lot to the great Santana album "Supernatural" lately. 99 was a wonderful time for me. The art cover is so beautiful, Mariah should try something like that. Maybe for the next "nostalgia" album. I also like the pic that is always seen for the SUD cover with the lipstick.

Lame photos? (113,489)

Because she's into beauty shot photos, beauty shot videos, and not art photos nor art videos. Even all her photos on her social media are her face photos "look at me, I'm beautiful" beauty shot beauty shot. Remember that It's Like That cover single, yes that's different and it fits the theme of the song which is party record and no face of her is needed, just graphic design.

It would be cool if MC and Olivia Dean collaborated for a summer doo wop bop. I feel a 50s retro sounding song could be the 2026 song of summer. I see a MC and Olivia Dean music video as a fun drive through L.A. picking up Ryan Gosling and Michael B. Jordan along the way trying not to be fashionably late for their big show at The Dolby Theatre. I hope MC has been thinking about making it happen this year because it would be really cool if it did.

Charmbracelet to Caution vocals compared (113,453)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
"All you have to do is watch the Mariah's World series to see a glimpse of the erratic behavior." That's why I wasn't able to watch the "show" back then. I tried but after a few minutes I had to quit because it felt strange and not worthy to watch. What you described sounds indeed terrible. That was really a bad dark time. I think Nick Cannon was the reason everything went down. After him she was never the same. And Stella was the final straw. What a nightmare. During Charmbracelet Mariah seemed down-to earth again, still struggling and healing but on a good way. I hope she takes care of herself and stays away from the wrong people. At a certain age one should become wiser and never interact with trash people again. I really hope Mariah has one or two people who are normal and are not on the payroll and care for her. I want to see a happy Mariah again.

Charmbracelet to Caution vocals compared (113,450)
by TheButterflyReturns from United States
| |
|

Mariah disclosed the bipolar diagnosis because she, unfortunately, chose to hire and work with Stella and displayed really erratic behavior in front of the wrong people (aka Stella and company). Stella was wrong to weaponize mental illness, but based on what happened in 2001 and seeing the footage from the reality show, I definitely think there is some truth to what she said. Mariah's assistant from that period, Lianna, also confirmed it.
All you have to do is watch the "Mariah's World" series to see a glimpse of the erratic behavior and substance use - she and others were on camera with cannabis use, which is known to exacerbate existing psychiatric disorders. She had staff members taking semi-nude and nude photographs of her to send to Bryan Tanaka... while she was still engaged to James Packer. Mariah was an absolute mess during that period.

This song has grown on me. But I still like the solo version better. I'm happy that this version is on the album. "Sugar Sweet" sounds radio friendly. It should have been a top ten hit in the US and NII should have been a hit in Europe.

Was MC's acapella introduction of Sugar Sweet genius or what? I can't help, but think about how she drew us in making us want more. I wish she had a video and remix ready for release two weeks later after Sugar Sweet dropped. I wanted Sugar Sweet to be a top ten Hot 100 hit or better.

MTV Unplugged (113,424)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
It's indeed a very interesting thought. "Just focused on creating soulful, genuine and sincere music." Less concerts, smaller venues, less fame, but still enough to live a wealthy life, but more relaxed and maybe the voice would still be there. Of course we will never know. Yes, she conquered the world. But the costs were high for it. But I think she wanted to be the ultimate global superstar, because of her early experiences. So she gave everything and beyond. The MTV Unplugged is music history. She was so good and showed everyone that she's a true artist, with a voice "out of this world". I also think she looked real confident. She knew she was unstoppable. Her little shyness here and there makes it even more adorable. I always loved the combination of being so sweet but at the same time confident and smart. That was Mariah for me. The live version of "If it's over" is unbelievable. And "Someday" is so cool. I love the EP.

MTV Unplugged (113,422)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
Great post Jamie. I love Unplugged and play it nearly every day, no joke. Her voice is magical, and I think the arrangements and vocals for If It's Over, Someday and Make It Happen are better than the album versions, as great as they are. And then of course, I'll Be There. It's like the whole set was a crescendo to that fantastic moment-making performance.
And I have wondered the same as you. I look at someone like Barbra Streisand, who I think as a rule doesn't do concerts. Just one off performances every so often. I get envious that, had Mariah adopted that approach, where would she be now vocally? Had she not married Tommy and instead just focused on creating soulful, genuine and sincere music, where would she be? Tommy wanted a Whitney for his label, Mariah felt that "by your side, I can conquer the world"; and conquer it she did. But at what cost?

Where life begins Madonna (113,413)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|

Yeah, I guess I know what you mean. Sometimes it can be hard if you look at an artist at their prime and realize those days are gone. (I always felt sad with MJ, because he was such a good looking man who changed too much with the optics. But his talent never left and was always there.) Plus we realize that when stars are getting older, that our time flies by too. That's why I'm happy if some of "my stars" are still around even if the golden days are over. I also liked the comparison that someone wrote here (I forgot who) that Mariah's voice is like a rare flower. That can't last for a long time. Very poetic and it might have some truth on it.

I appreciate your response and enjoy your posts but it is sad when legends get old. Their voices are a shadow of what they used to be. Beyonce is still young but even her voice doesn't exactly sound like Dangerously In Love Beyonce, it's so much deeper now. Second as they age they get closer to death which sucks. In my opinion 2009 Mariah would blow most of today's singers out of the water. Beyonce is the only singer who I can think of that posed a threat to Mariah vocally especially after 2013. I have a love hate relationship with Beyonce but there's no doubt she's really that girl when it comes to vocals and sheer power. Her Super Bowl Halftime show showed that and impressed me a lot. With that being said Mariah still holds the title for best female voice and nobody will ever top her. I'm glad she's still here but I don't want to get any older.

Can't Let Go (113,412)

Yes, it was perfect and still is. The song suits the early 90ies. Classic ballad, beautiful video in black and white and a stunning young Mariah with a voice that was a natural force. It should have been a number one during that time. It's one of my favourite Mariah songs, it has the certain magic.

Where life begins Madonna (113,402)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I like some songs of Madonna. I've never been a fan, but I like her early hits and "Ray of light". "Frozen" was huge back then, it's my favourite. "Hung up" was fun too.
But I don't think it's sad that the legends are getting old. It's sad, if they die young, like Heath Ledger, Amy, the "Club 27". It's cool that Cher and Madonna are still here and doing their thing. Or look at Ringo Starr and Tom Jones. They are still "cool guys". As long as an "oldie" is fit and healthy, it's not sad at all. And to age naturally [doesn't] take away the charisma. I love Helen Mirren and Andie McDowell for the natural lifestyle. Mrs. Presley is spooky for me, I don't like "masks". That's a bit sad, if someone can't age. An old Robert Redford had still more charisma than all the youngsters. I miss him and his wonderful talent as an actor.

I'm a fan of Madonna, not a mega fan but a fan of some of her songs, and I often fantasize about "Where life begins" being Mariah's song instead haha. I know it's kind of explicit but who gives a damn Mariah is no angel and she's had some saucy lyrics herself. I love this song mainly because of the music it's very addictive and so 90's. Erotica was ahead of its time and Madonna is definitely a legend. I also miss her youthful appearance. She was very beautiful during the early 90's especially during the Bedtime Stories era. It's sad how so many music legends are getting old.

I miss the carefree Mariah so much too. I have made peace with the voice changes. Her music catalogue is outstanding and will live forever. It has everything. I really miss the carefree vibrant 90s and 2000s MC. I hope she can get back to making beautiful ballads and fun pop songs again. I don't think it's a potential number one hit. Also it's a wonderful song. But the charts are so "strange" nowadays. What does the UK fans think? I think "NII" had the most hit potential. Too bad it wasn't released or pushed more.

What a great post. I have the same thought about all the mentioned things. You described it perfectly. With the "current personality and her performance level", that's a good point too. I wonder what the answer could be about the current personality and performances? I don't know the answer but I would say jazz, blues and retro soul suits better than hip-hop or modern RnB songs for a legend like Mariah nowadays. "My love" is a highlight on HFIA and such a beautiful song and cover.

Type Dangerous and why it failed (113,315)

Mariah is not in the stage of her career where she should be singing this type of songs anymore. She is not cool and she can't vibe with the beat. It's a great cool song, and if it's released by Ariana or Taylor, it would be a hit. The hype was there until she performed it on BET Awards, and the public saw that she can barely walk, and so the song tanked. It's a performance song, and she needs help to walk.
There is a disconnect between her and what lambs want her to do. If she wants to release a modern song like Type Dangerous, maybe it's better if they release a really great video and then hide her from the public.
It's the same situation with Sugar Sweet. If that song is released by someone else, it would be a hit because it's a great song. But the supposed video of it, it's the same touching her hair and hips moves. Well I have no words how bad it is. How do you craft a great song and throw it away like that is the current state of Mariah's career.
So Mariah 2026 problem is not the song, and not even her voice. The problem is her, she doesn't know how to perform these types of songs anymore. She cannot be directed, not choreographed. I think it's time Mariah and lambs accept the fact that she should only release songs that matches her current personality and her performance level.
It's sad when lambs post here that they listen to AI Mariah. They are imagining a Mariah of the good old days on her current songs which is some mental acrobatics. That's just how bad her situation is, and just a bad way to listen to music in general. They'd rather listen to Mariah sounding like a chipmunk (frankly that's how AI sounds to me in general), that is not her, than accept her current state. Equally sadder is suggesting a nodules operations, another lamb fanfic that will somehow turn back the clock.
For me My Love is her current state. It does not fit on the radio nor the streaming hits right now, but its authentic to her current voice and personality. And I'm sure she can at least perform that kind of song live. Think 70s Carpenters, understated, standard, mature, dare I say: basic.
That's her in 2026 and the next few years. She's not a popstar anymore nor a vocal diva anymore and the first step is accepting it.
Also, to add: everyone was excited about Nothing Is Impossible, then all the excitement went away after she performed it at the Olympics. Her performance almost always backfires on her own songs.
That's what happened with #Beautiful, and that's the state of her new songs over the past 15 years if you think about it. At least on her non-Christmas songs. Thankfully the legacy of those classics is so strong she herself can't ruin them anymore when she performs them.

I had a dream (113,288)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|

I had dream last night that MC would be back on top again in 2028. Here is what I dreamed about.
1. MC releases her 17th album entitled, I'm Back (In Arms Your Again) - JD/BMC/Crystal Johnson/Johnta Austin collaboration 2. She collaborates again with Walter A., Babyface, JD, Skillrex, and some top producers and songwriters of the last 10 years. 3. Critics rave that MC's voice is back. Some say her Butterfly tone is back to stay. Her whistle range is "Emotions" strong again. 4. The first single makes it to number one in less than 5 weeks. 5. Many Lambs say the Bruno Mars, Sza, Toni Braxton, and Fred Again collaborations are their favorites. 6. MC embarks on a 30-city summer/fall tour in the U.S. The first show is at Proctors Theater. The last show is at Madison Square Garden. 7. The second single is a Pop R&B ballad collaboration with Walter A. and Babyface that is reminisce of Love Takes Time and Everytime I Close my Eyes. 8. One year later after the release of a deluxe version, eight Grammy nominations, numerous of television performances, a Rock and Hall of Fame Inductee, and the 2029 Superbowl Half-time show performer, MC finally wins multiple Grammy awards including Album of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammys. 9. MC sits down with Oprah for a May TV sweeps interview about her remarkable career and the rollercoaster ride of 2028 and 2029. 10. MC finally falls in love again with a wealthy NFL coach.

I also love "Breakdown" since it has been released in 97. I even love the rap on it. A perfect RnB song with a cool video. Was the song about Derek Jeter just like "My all" and "The roof"? I forgot it. Anyway I feel very nostalgic with it too.

HFIA breakdown (113,290)
by Lainsky from Philippines

It seems Mariah has shelved HFIA and the deluxe edition idea. Typically, I listen to her latest album almost every day for the next six months to a year after purchasing it. However, I realized that it's only been five months since HFIA was released, and I haven't played it much in the past month or this month. Don't get me wrong. I like HFIA, but I guess I love playing her 90s' album more lately. In fact, I've been playing "Breakdown" more than any of her other songs. I loved it back then, and I love it even more now, including the music video. Lambs of my age can't help but feel nostalgic these days.

That rare flower that is Mariah's voice (113,275)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |

The funny thing is most people don't like her trademark "the whistle". I loved it on her debut and "Emotions". There are fantastic songs like "Dreamlover", "Bliss" and "Bringin' on the heartbreak" with her epic whistle. But it was clearly overused and not needed in many other songs. Her deeper tone has the real magic. But I would be afraid of surgery, if it's not needed, because of health issues. I guess there's always a risk, no matter how good a doctor is. I would first try to loose the bad habits and relax.

I hope not. Could it be because of the meds and private sorrow? I also don't think it's because of champagne. Just here and there a glass won't destroy everything (of course it's not good for a singer). Unless you drink every day and with high-proof alcohol, that would be very bad for the voice and health. Whitney Houston is really a sad example with many others, how a beautiful, extremely talented human has "everything" and throws it away because of drugs. I just want to see Mariah happy and healthy again. But I fear, she's too lonely. And no diamond is a good friend in real life. All the luxury is nothing compared to have real friends, family or a true partner. I wish Mariah to find that finally. But with so much fame, it must be very hard. Even for a "normal" one it's not easy.

Sometimes I think that it could be drugs. WH did drugs and got this metallic voice, Dionne Warwick the same. Mariah got the metallic voice, but we don't know why. I doubt that it's the champagne. I know a lot of professional singers that drink, but got their voices intact.

More youthful hairstyle please (113,221)

Yes, since the last two years I often have to think of Marilyn Monroe and Mariah. We all know Mariah adores Marilyn. MM was a diva, sex symbol, most famous woman on earth (besides with the queen, same age haha), plus she had the hardest childhood and was such a beautiful, unhappy woman. I don't want to see Mariah so unhappy in the future. Mariah was always a diva, but it has become a bit too much. I mean the image. It has become hard to see/recognize Mariah the person, the singer behind that big image. I guess it's a shield. But I often miss the natural, carefree Mariah. And it's true, elegance ages everyone. If you want to look younger or youthful, take casual clothes. Everyone looks older with extravaganza and jewelry. It's normal. Non-fans always say the word diva when it comes to Mariah. Personally, I don't like that this is the first thought they have about her. She is so much more and it makes me sad, that it seems only fans/lambs know and remember it.

I have a feeling that Mariah has purposefully been trying to look like a caricature of a "diva" for a while. This doll-like image seems to have taken over. I think this is how she wants to be remembered in the future. We all have that one image that comes to mind of famous figures like Marilyn Monroe. I think Mariah has been trying to curate a mind picture that we associate with her when people say "Mariah Carey". To be honest, it is clever as the only image I have of Whitney is her being a sweaty mess on stage. I have always thought that the flat hair on top really does Mariah no favours especially when paired with the extra long extensions; it really does age her. I would be interested to know what picture comes to your mind's eye when people say "Mariah Carey" and I wonder how different it would be to the casual listener's mental image.

Oh yes. I love my 90ies playlist and cd's too. For every mood a perfect song or album. It also works like a time-machine with all the good memories. Proud "90ies kid" for life.

Yep, the '90s music really is the best. They are consistent in my playlist along with Mariah's.

What MC really needs moving forward (113,212)

"I say bring back Stella." This is a joke right? No way, please. This woman was a nightmare (even when she made one or two good business choices at the beginning). She almost destroyed Mariah. I'm still trying to forget that this woman and her daughter or relatives were connected to Mariah. Dark times were these (Yoda speaks).

I couldn't agree more. I have been wanting Mariah to write with Diane Warren since 2013. They could definitely come up with something good. As for a new manager I say bring back Stella. She would fix everything and put Mariah back on top where she belongs.

Mariah opens the ceremony (113,203)

I just searched for the [German] press and one in UK. They were positive. But then I read the comments on YouTube, and they were really mean and negative. Most were saying no life, statue and so on. I find them way too harsh.

"The critics from the press are pretty good, I've read only one that was not so nice. But most articles are very positive and nice."
Really? My newsfeed shows 33 negative articles about Mariah's performance and only a handful positive ones. And I agree with most of them. The performance was boring as hell.
