Mariah singing at the Oscar (112,837)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|

Yes absolutely. Or look at Pamela Anderson, she moved to the nature and changed her look. I was impressed by that change. I fear Mariah can't leave the showbiz behind her. We'll see what's going on next year. Yes, she'll always be the queen of the 90ies. That's why her famous Christmas song is from 94 too. She was unmatched back then. It was magical.

Mariah singing at the Oscar (112,827)
by TJ from Norway

That would have been lovely back in 1996. Let the young artist do that job. She doesn't have to prove anything like that these days. She was the queen of the 90's and no one could ever take that away from her. If I was MC, I think I would just enjoy life without all the fuss these days. I like the fact that Cameron Diaz just stepped out of the lime light, to live her life.

Article: Mariah Carey's twins tower over her (112,836)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |

That's why I hope they don't get "mad" later when they are 18 or so like kids from other stars. I think it's very unhealthy to stay at the public if you're kid. There are so many sad examples. I just watched a new docu about Liza Minelli. It was very interesting and sad at the same time. To have a famous mother from that league isn't easy for sure.

I still think it's weird. They are 14 years old (and shouldn't be on the public at all), but she makes those decisions. They are not in her entourage, they are her kids.

Haha. I have been tracking my likes this year and they are down like 55% compared to 2024. What would you all do without my predictions and wishful thinking. I did think this week what if Gregory Porter, Robert Glasper and PJ Morton collaborated with MC in 2026 for something different for MC17?

Was Celine the original JLo? (112,818)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

No, she wouldn't have recorded MHWGO. Imagine Mariah on the Titanic music video. No way. Lol. As you said at that time she was leaving the pop music behind her and embraced the rnb/urban music genre completely. I remember how I went to the Titanic movie twice, when the song played almost everybody shared a tear and felt emotional. What an event that was at that time in the cinema. I will never forget. The late 90ies were still rocking.

Do you think Mariah would have recorded "My Heart Will Go On" if it had been offered to her? She seemed pretty firm on not recording original songs written by other people at that point in her career. The song was also more in line with the adult contemporary image she was attempting to leave behind at that point in her career. She relaxed that rule about recording other people's songs when she did "When You Believe" with Whitney, but it seemed like Mariah was pretty steadfast on it up until "Almost Home". I'm actually a bit confused by "Almost Home" because Mariah says she did not write, but she was given a writing credit. Perhaps it was brought to her and then she asked for changes before agreeing to record it?

I think Monroe doesn't look so happy on the pic. Or is it the typical teen look? No smile. Rocky is trying to be cool. Lol. But I'm sure they are not forced to wear the sweaters. But they now have a difficult age. The "easy" years are over. Mariah please keep them grounded. I'm always shocked how bizarre some kids from celebrities are. Mariah's kids always seemed very nice.

MC does not wear her own products. It is nice that the kids support her. In my humbly opinion: the kids could wear at least for Christmas normal teenage suitable pants. They look very untidy. Not festive at all. They are not poor. Mc is gorgeous as always.

My favorite Olympic songs is Reach by Gloria Estefan. I like that it's upbeat and it kind of makes me feel inspired and fired up. I know it's cheesy but I loved it when I was a kid and even sang it in a talent show. 100% had that vocally and lyrically but the music could've been better.

Although [in your feelings] might be more mainstream, I think NII would be cheaper to have as video other than glamour shots. She can use backstage moments of her triumphant video shoot fall or the NYE fiasco followed by her netter performances. She can use stories from the Olympians overcoming adversity since she's performing for the winter Olympics.

I started a bit late with listening to Christmas music, but now Mariah has got/enchanted me again. I still enjoy her deluxe edition from Merry Christmas. The sugar plum intro is so Mariah. The live versions from the church are a true gift. With the albums MC and MC2 I switch them with my mood of the day. I love MC2 but when I listen to Merry Christmas it also brings back memories. It was a better time, that I really miss. Mariah and the album reminds me of that. I'm very thankful for it. Funny side note: I watched the Peanuts movie and thought hey that's Mariah's intro. Lol. I hope you all enjoy the season although it's such a busy one. "Christmas time is here" is perfect for relaxation.

by MusicfanJ from Germany

I completely agree. Taylor Swift may be a good entertainer (but nothing special). But she is very smart with business and partners and has a very good image. MJ was a phenomenon. Oh yes, he was. Pure talent I witnessed through the whole 90ies. What he started with the Jackson's 5 and later as a solo artist is unique. I miss his music so much. When I hear the "Earth song", "They don't care about us", "Who is it", "Dirty Diana" or "Stranger in Moscow" on my radio station I often get goosebumps. What a sound. Something I never get with the all the other songs on the radio, except Mariah's ballads or with "Sitting on the dock on the bay". MJ will always be the King of Pop. There will never be another one.

Bobby A I adore you, but please let's never compare Taylor to MJ. This is coming from someone who listens to Taylor's music and I too have quote how Taylor is definitely a master marketing machine. But MJ is on a league of his own and his career hasn't been matched and won't ever be matched. Beyoncé tried and failed. MJ was a phenomenon, a total powerhouse and launched a billion careers due to his influence especially at a time where there was no social media. He was pure talent, no gimmicks, no clever marketing. He was just the kind of artist we will probably never experience again. Taylor Swift is a powerhouse in her own right but I don't think she is of Michael's caliber and influence. She knows how to control the narrative and market herself and that's what works for her.

So much money, but no good behave. Something you can't buy. Muni Long wasn't clever to show such "humour". How I miss the times where there were real superstars out there like Prince and Michael. Muni Long seems like a typical "young" wannabe. If Mariah hadn't done this one song with her, I wouldn't know who she is. She is totally unknown here. Maybe some teens know her. Her voice is okay, but nothing special. I wish Mariah had done a song with Toni Braxton, Sade or Jessie Ware. Women with class and way more power.

Muni Long what? (112,516)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Muni Long is known to throw shade at other artists. She threw shade at the R&B singer Lyfe Jennings about his classic song, Must Be Nice sounding resentful and bitter and not appreciative back in August. That is Lyfe's most popular song that everyone still loves today. Muni Long shading him came out of nowhere. Muni Long must have been writing her song Delulu back in August. Anyway, I just wanted to give some context to as to why now Muni Long would throw shade about comments MC made during a GQ magazine. Muni Long likes throwing shade for her own benefit. She is trying to promote her song Delulu because it has yet to debut on the Mediabase Urban AC radio chart. Her instagram shade video was not warranted for an artist who has always sang praises about Muni Long since her 2018 Colored album when she was Priscilla Renea. I don't know if I am a fan of Muni Long now.

Queen of Christmas (112,509)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
Because Christmas is religious, so no singer should trademark it for herself/himself. There's enough commerce allready for everyone. The other titles like King of Pop or Rock and Roll are only music genres.
Mariah was here often called the Queen of Pop-Soul. I think that title suits her well because of her unique mix with pop, urban and soul. But I think with the Grammys, that is pure envy against Mariah. She should have won at least 18 during her career. No one could stop her in the 90ies, she was simply the best.

You're probably right but it would need to be trademarked for the movie I have in my head.
On a side note: Why was it okay for Michael Jackson to be the King of Pop and for Elvis to be the King of Rock and Roll and Aretha to be the Queen of Soul? I feel like there's a lot of jealousy geared towards Mariah. I feel like that's part of the reason she doesn't have as many awards as she should.

Yup, those poor children. It's not hard to predict that some will have problems and issues in the future because of that mess and the "family". I had to laugh because of the names. Yes it's really like a satire. It almost sounds like names from a sect cult. In Germany most of the names would be forbidden because of later bullying and other reasons. Powerful Queen couldn't be a legal name here. Lol. It's really ridiculous, Nick Cannon is ridiculous and one of the worst things that ever happened to Mariah. I can't imagine how to celebrate holidays/Christmas with that clown. I hope Mariah stays away from him as far as possible.

You guys, I just saw ET covering Monroe's clarification about having only one full sibling, and they listed all the other kids' names:
• Golden • Powerful Queen • Rise Messiah • Onyx Ice Cole • Zion Mixolydian • Zillion Heir • Beautiful Zeppelin • Legendary Love • Zen • Halo
At first I genuinely thought it was satire. LMAO. But no, those are really their names. I already felt bad for the kids, and now I feel even worse. What in the world?
Mariah saying "corny like fritos" was absolutely accurate. I don't think I can dislike Nick Cannon more. My goodness, those poor children.
