I am curious about those first 9 years of her career and her marriage to Tommy. She really did have a Princess Di wedding that fell apart so quickly during the course of two eras. Interesting video (114,195) by jaker20 from US First of all, that is an AI generated video. They stretch a "Mariah has bipolar" into a 30 minute video because that is how they make money. If you hear that annoying narrator's voice, close the video, because you just wasted 30 minutes of your day over a bunch of redundant crap of everything bad about Mariah into 30 minutes. But... the thought in it is true. There is definitely something wrong with her, and we already have been talking about that for years now. For me, it's almost like she has the same problem as Celine, but in a milder way. Her physicality has declined significantly, it's almost like she's a disabled senior citizen now. And she's literally masking that with all the makeup and beauty facade. I also think her weight cycling, and likely ozempic and her bipolar meds is making her like that. A lot of these ozempic girlies are looking a bit like zombies. It's amazing that Madonna is outlasting Mariah in almost every aspect: physicality, artistry, creativity, and just general well-being. I hope she figures it out for her own sake. I want to add that having a deadbeat ex-husband didn't help. So she's raising the twins on her own. And she had to deal with her issues. The twins don't seem to be doing anything quite meaningful in their lives, and are not in school. This is all going to come back to her when she is much older, and everything she ever worked for will be gone including her legacy because no one will take care of them and her later on. And then she has a long list of employees and sycophants that also relies on her, not really about her own well-being. Daydream 30th anniversary (114,194) by Terna from Nigeria Finally. One of my favorite albums of Mariah Carey gets a remastering and release - in Dolby Atmos. This is so important to me as I always thought the record was long overdue. This album was huge (worldwide) especially "Always be my baby" and "One Sweet Day" and was actually my introduction to Mariah Carey the singer. I am glad it finally gets its moment. MC probably felt that Daydream was her best album of her career at that point. She recorded the greatest pop songs of her career at that time with Fantasy, One Sweet Day, and Always Be My Baby. However, the whole album was overlooked by the Grammys. Why? There are reasons why MC's Daydream and India Aire's Acoustic Soul were both overlooked by the Grammys in 1996 and 2002 that should be discussed. I'd say Whitney and Mariah birthed most of the vocal pop girlies who came after them, with Mariah having a slight edge simply because she covered more styles. Heck, she even got Aretha to sing Touch My Body. Lecrae also interviewed Tori Kelly and asked her the same question. Tori picked Mariah, and Lecrae could not handle it. He said, "Someone's going to hate you for that. They're hating on you right now. They're saying you have lost your mind." Tori doubled down, "That's okay. I love them both but I really was raised more with Mariah Carey. I won a big trophy singing Vision of Love when I was 9 years old, so I'm sticking with Mariah." She was obviously just being authentic. It's interesting though. I watch these street type interviews, and almost every time a black person is asked, "Mariah or Whitney?" the immediate answer is Whitney which sort of makes me feel like there's a bit of colorism at play because it happens so often. Their general tone towards Mariah is just kind of like, "She's not even competition to Whitney" which makes me wonder, is her music just not played at cookouts? Why are we acting like she isn't formidable vocally? She arguably did more technically demanding things and has a much broader catalog. Then when you actually hear from the real black vocal queens like Aretha or Patti, they praise the hell out of Mariah. Aretha famously wanted to sing with MC and MC only during Divas Live, and Patti handpicked Mariah to perform in her tribute despite Whitney being available. She was literally in the same building that night. I talked to a black friend of mine (who sings) about it, and his take was basically, "Mariah has a reputation as a lip-syncer, a phony," and "The average person will feel stupid picking her if we're talking real singing." I was like, "Okay, fair." I didn't really have a rebuttal because it made perfect sense then it just kind of made me sad realizing how tarnished Mariah's credibility really has become. If that's the direction she wants to explore, it doesn't automatically make the music boring. Calling R&B "not the way to go" is subjective. What's boring to one person is atmospheric or emotionally nuanced to someone else. I'd rather judge the songs than the genre. If her vocal issues are affecting her performances, that's a separate discussion from whether she should stop making R&B. I've even seen some voice experts say that the nodules themselves don't create the whistle register, they may have just made it easier for her to access it, that she would only have to find it again after surgery. I totally understand why she didn't want to have surgery back then. Her voice was still incredible, and I can see why she wouldn't want to risk changing something that was working. But now? Even the whistle register doesn't sound pleasing to the ear, so what's really the point? Personally, I'd rather hear her regular singing voice restored to a decent level than keep holding on to a pony that isn't really doing that one trick anymore. Even though you didn't mention it, a lot of fans like to bring up Julie Andrews as a reason Mariah was right not to have her nodules removed. I don't think that's a fair comparison. Julie's voice was damaged because of complications during surgery that wasn't intended to treat vocal nodules or improve a singer's voice. Mariah would've been having a specialized microsurgery specifically designed to remove vocal nodules while preserving vocal function. They're two completely different situations. With today's technology and experienced laryngeal surgeons, that procedure has a very good success rate. Singers like Adele and many others have had vocal fold surgery and returned to performing at a very high level. And let's be real, she's 57. That ship may have already sailed, but I still think she has one last chance to go out with a banger. Give us an amazing album with killer vocals, even if they have to be tweaked in the studio. I really don't care at this point. Whatever she's cooking up in the studio, I just hope it's not another old tired safe R&B album. If there was ever a time to surprise everyone and do something completely unexpected, it's now. R&B is clearly not the hit making machine it was in the '90s and 2000s, and I don't think she's fully accepted that yet. And please, don't make us wait another seven years. HFIA (114,062) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter HFIA started good with the promotion but then lost the track and the plot. Type Dangerous was different from anything Mariah had done and she seemed to have a hell lot of budget for the video yet the video was lacklustre. And in what has become a tradition the video wasn't ready on time. Also we have all seen Mariah not being able to move properly in real life and needing help but you'd think in a controlled environment she'd have more coordinated movements but she looked stiff and unable to move. The video didn't age well. Then the other singles released I didn't even keep track because the promo wasn't even there. Sugar Sweet was a nice song (although to be honest I can't listen to it at all because I was in my first trimester and had constant nausea and that's when the song came lol so now when I listen to it I feel nauseous) anyways that too had no proper video.
