Céline uses just as much smoke and mirrors on stage as Mariah does with the only difference being Céline is better at it. Let's move on. I am fed up with the Mariah bashing on this forum.

You do have a point there Randy. Years ago, at the end of the '90s, a friend of mine who worked as an operatic vocal coach, told me that Mariah indeed had a unique voice. But the extensive use of her pipes in the beginning of her career ruined her vocal abilities forever. She further told me that any singer should take a decent amount of rest and really pamper their instrument. Mariah did nothing but work, work, work. This in combination with the extensive travelling and an overload of performances and interviews is anything but what a singer needs to prolong their potential. Nevertheless I believe our girl is still a force to be reckoned with.

I really like Triumphant although Mimi only does background vocals. There was a time when I needed the message of the song every day.

That "Close My Eyes" performance on the Rosie O'Donnel show is just beautiful, almost stripped down. Even though Mariah sounds a bit hoarse it adds extra dimension to the meaning of the lyrics.

How incredibly gorgeous did Mariah look last night? The dress is spot on without too much exposure and the makeup is flawless. All the wannabe divas should sit back, watch and learn: this is what a global superstar/legend looks like.

"That's about me" song (82,779)
by Tijl from Belgium
| |
|

Which one particular song from Mariah's catalogue made you feel that it could have been written about you? That one song that touched your heart instantly and still resonates with you after all these years? Mine will always be "Close My Eyes" with "Petals" in second place. Anyone familiar with these songs will not need further explanation. Not that my life is bleak but we all go through the bad and the ugly once and again.

Dear MusicFanJ, I am aware of the situation in Germany as some of these stories pop up in our papers as well. I couldn't agree more that our childhood has been a bliss. Antwerp has been living under terror attack level 3 (level 4 meaning that you are under attack) for 2 years now. And Brussels has suffered immensely on an economical and social level during the aftermath. We just have to accept that living in Europe will never be the same again.

You are living in the US with little knowledge about what the current situation is in Europe. These terrorists are followers of the Islamic scriptures. Sorry to break the news but there is a major flood of issues on a daily basis because Islamic immigrants refuse to adapt to our European culture. There is no need to hide from the truth.

Hello Andrew, I do agree that it was a matter of security and insurance measurements. Unfortunately nothing was communicated to the fans. A small part from my "review" on Mariah's World: "I have to admit I hoped there would be some scenes on Mariah handling the situation in Belgium at the time of the attacks. Her Belgian concert was planned four days after on her birthday - sorry, her anniversary, but was abruptly cancelled without any feedback to the fans. Those moments of a legendary star dealing with the realities of the world outside of their own could have been the show's prerogative." I guess there will be some lipsync but I feel our girl is in a good place and willing to give her all. However, if this concert gets cancelled hell will have no fury. Mainly because I will be sharing this experience with my best friend and she has never seen Mariah in concert. It's an experience dahling.

My BF got us great tickets for the show in Brussels. I still can not believe Mariah is coming back so soon. The Sweet Sweet Fantasy stop in Belgium was cancelled because of the terrorist attacks. Second time is a charm.

#1's (82,608)
by Tijl from Belgium
| |
|
|
I would like to know. What is your most cherished #1 song? Which one do you like the least and why? My pick: Favorite: "Honey" because it is such an iconic song that remains fresh. I love the samples she used and I adore the video. Least favorite: "Touch My Body", although I truly enjoyed this song at its initial release, over the years I started to resent it. I feel it hasn't aged well and the lyrics are too cheesy for words.

I don't get all the hate towards "Infinity". It is an okay song, not fantastic but MC has much worse stuff in her catalogue like "X-Girlfriend" or "Bliss" for instance. Personally I find the shade and wittiness of Infinity rather amusing. Mariah looks great although the video is a rather uninspired. I do love the footage from her Colosseum performance. All in all: B-

"Her looking like a giant on the back of that motorcycle." I think she looked absolutely gorgeous in that video although I never liked the concept. The leather outfit and the setting was odd if not ridiculous. Loved the chandeliers in the barn though. And the original version of the song is one of her best over the last years. Should have been a massive hit. Everytime one of my friends hear it they mention just how beautiful (pun intended) the two voices go together and how they love the sexy vibe of the song. A missed opportunity.

Re: Whitney Houston (82,524) (82,538)
by Tijl from Belgium

Respect for Whitney as a singer but she never grew on me when it concerned her as a human being. I found her to be very bitchy and unlikeable in interviews. God knows the drugs turned her into a walking nightmare but even during her early days she never came across as a warm person. She lost all credit with me when she tried to upstage Mariah during their live rendition of "When You Believe" at the Academy Awards. Throughout the entire performance there is a clear tension between the two of them and a certain moment Mariah even glances at her like "Come on, really?" Whitney was a good if not a great songstress but she comes nowhere near Mariah's versatile artistry. Okay... they both suck at acting.

You are absolutely right. Looking at the atendees' outfits one can only smirk at the level of rediculous fancy dress. This has nothing to do with style but is merely focused on making headlines while wearing the most bizar creations. Mariah looks her best when she plays the Old Hollywood card like at this years Golden Globes. As you mentioned... better appreciated elsewhere than to be tolerated at this "circus of the egos".

I don't think so. She never attended any of the previous editions. Maybe the powers that be at Vogue don't consider her as a fashion icon.

Re: Meet and Greet - wait 2 hours for 20 seconds (82,332) (82,340)
by Tijl from Belgium

What to say? Paying 1500 dollars to have a very brief photo opp (one can hardly refer to the situation as a meet & greet) is a bit out there and all but democratic. On the other hand if they would charge a more friendly amount it would become an overtly time consuming and difficult affair as hundreds of people would buy those tickets. I do like Andrew's suggestion of a lottery but I doubt if this is doable from a safety point of view. I have no doubt that the meet and greet ticket buyers are screened by Mariah's security team beforehand. Nobody wants to take the risk of letting some lunatic close to Mariah (albeit that her team over the past years consisted of many a crazy bugger). Anyway if a fan is willing to pay those prices, let them be. Honestly I wouldn't hesitate a moment but my bank manager begs to differ.

New pictures, new look (82,176)
by Tijl from Belgium

The pictures that popped up on the internet are really promising. Mariah is seen leaving a restaurant in West Hollywood and she looks stunning. No tacky cleavage are unbecoming short hemline but a classy yet feminine silhouette that flatters her curvy shape. This is what a superstar looks like .
