The older man is Jeff Beacher. You are right, there is nothing much we can do. I just get frustrated you know? I thought moving to Sony would mean a lot of changes for the good. Anyways, nice to meet you. Bill, you are hilarious. Haha your idea of what's dangerous for Mariah now made me laugh embarrassingly loud. I was reading somewhere else that "not touching herself is dangerous for her". But yours is funnier.

I have always enjoyed your posts and I respect your opinion. I am however assuming that your last post was directed at either me or Tiina or Licia. I can only speak for myself and this time around I didn't expect something just because I thought this is MC's next comeback. I had high expectations because Mariah herself fed us the high expectation. I don't think I need to repeat her and Brett's remark about the song-video combo, the press release of the hotel owner talking about her stunts, Mariah herself talking about how Brett and her had discussions about the stunts. Holding off a video for over a month fueling expectations that maybe the video is that great that they are waiting for the song to fall so that they can re-ignite it. I don't blame myself or any others disappointed by the video for having high expectations. We are all entitled to have our own feelings towards the video/song. Neither I, nor anyone else who didn't like it tried to tell others that they are wrong to love the video.

Dahlin' the struggle is real. I get how you feel. I wonder why they left out the gorgeous shots of her getting ready and sitting on the chaise lounge like the first teaser (although she did write it's not the real video) but she looked gorgeous in them. I think I wouldn't have been this disappointed with the video if MC and Brett didn't yell over the phone/radio that it will blow our minds haha. Also please tell me I am not the only one who thinks that the shot of MC in her closet (during the "name hold weight like kilos" semi-rap part where she is bouncing and awkwardly looking at the came) was really awkward. I was like whose bright idea was that? Until she popped the champagne bottle or threw herself at one of the closet doors, she looked like she is feeling awkward. But the woman looks sexy and beautiful to the power infinity, I'll give her that. She looks younger than her TEOM days. Gorgeous girl.

I don't know if you were here when there was a major showdown going on about how in the past few years, every time a single was announced, it was touted the next #1 and then every time it flopped it got dubbed as a buzz single. I will leave the technical definition at the end of the post. To clarify my previous post. When "Triumphant" was released, it was going to be the start off a new era, it was the return of MC. Dubbed the summer of MC. If the song was a success, the album would have been released shortly. But it flopped, and immediately MC and fans alike started dubbing it as a "buzz single" and "a song for Nick". The song was dropped from the album. Then came #Beautiful (which went fine until the accident). Then TAOLG, which was again going to kick of the new era (with all the first time ever Facebook event, Mariah on the bathroom floor because the wrong version was released) after the delay post #B. It failed to make any impact and no effort was made to push it and it got dubbed as "a single for the fans". Then came YM(E) and it was again going to be Mariah's 19th #1, up until it was released, which again failed to make an impact (excluding dance charts) and it was dubbed "a song for V-Day only, MC is now making V-Day anthem after conquering Christmas and also it's a song to tide us over till the proper single named Thirsty, which will be the 19th #1". Thirsty came and went, no video, no promo. MIAM was dead. Your point about singles being released to promote is right, but not all singles are buzz singles. When I say proper single, I mean it as the opposite of buzz single. Technical definition in music, a buzz single or advance single is a track or promotional song, released by the label (typically) preceding the album's release. The song(s) are released in order to bring attention to an album's release. Buzz singles are not typically issued to radio as promotional singles, but this will not prevent radio stations from playing the songs. Buzz singles are not always included on an album.

This single is just for Vegas, no sorry (54,053)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I see we are already trying to call this a "single only to promote Vegas". I said this before, I ain't having none of that. This was a proper single. No more "this was for the fans, this was for Nick, this was for V-Day, this was a buzz single". Everytime a single flops the single automatically is dubbed a buzz single.

Blow our minds (54,052)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
One of the reasons why I thought this video might be killer was the comment MC and Brett made that "it will blow your minds". Then came the article about how she is shooting the video and expect to see her in dangerous positions. Knowing their history and hearing their confidence made me feel like we will get a comedy-action like video. Something Brett excels in. Hello Heartbreaker anyone? It had a story, it had comedy, it had action, it had dance moves. There is absolutely nothing missing in the Heartbreaker video. Anyways, they hyped up the video only to give out a video, which while it is better than her last few efforts, still falls flat. Especially if it was the last weapon to push the song on the charts. This is basically still a "glamor shot/behind the scenes magazine shoot video" that Mariah can't seem to get out of. YM(E) was a low budget glamor shot behind the scenes, and this is a high budget or mid budget one. Just saying. The biggest change is Mariah tried real hard not to touch herself and it was evident that she was struggling to do so.

Video (54,047)

I think she could have turned it into a mini movie. Even TMB had a little dialogue moment before the video. I think the video could have been like: first scene - MC fighting with her lover and she tells him to leave. She falls/collapses on the floor crying. Next scene: like Tiina said, MC signing up on the site debating with herself about the details. Then there can be cut scenes of her getting ready, put in the videos of different guys coming, when she shoos away the last suitor, she sings "infinity loving me more and more" twirling around hugging herself. At the end she drives off again taking Tiina's idea, with the dog. Scenes with a few friends partying/celebrating with her would have been great too. I mean just a rough idea. I could polish it more but really what's the point now. I loved the shot of her twirling around on the roof. I am disappointed there were no scenes of the alleged stunts. If this video was expected to re-ignite interest in the song, it either needed controversy or a kick-ass video. Something along the lines of "Honey".

MV (54,036)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I am glad the video is out and I think Mariah looks gorgeous but, the video is a big disappointment for me. Don't get me wrong, I loved the shots and all but I was rooting for a storyline. This just seems like different haphazard concepts put together. The Vegas show shots, while gorgeous, dominated most of the videos, I would have instead preferred other shots. She could have saved the Vegas show one for a "live" version or alternate MV and use lesser footages of the show. I felt like the initial closet shots were so awkward. I mean MC looked awkward, during the "name hold weight like kilos". I was hoping she might dance around to it a little or even sit with like a bag of Fritos or whatever, you know, like playing out the verses she is singing. Plus why does she drive away with Jussie? I thought she was going to be loving herself more and more? MC-Brett was the team behind iconic videos like Heartbreaker and WBT, heck they even put in a storyline in Obsessed despite it being mainly dominated by glamor shots. Anyways, I feel bad being negative, but it is what it is, if other fans are happy, then good for them. Ending on a positive note, MC looked gorgeous in every frame. Waiting for someone to upload HQ screenshots.

Expectations (54,029)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Reading Licia's post about how Beyonce's fans will accept anything Bey puts out, I realized truer words have probably never been spoken. Mariah has a hard time pleasing fans. Just to be clear I'm not calling out anybody in this post, so if any comment resembles that of another poster, it's a coincidence. Basically from the very start MC has such rich songs that every time she goes a down the fun-songs route, some one or the other will get pissed. Beyonce can sing about surfboards and being "fresher than you" and her fans will have that song burning out the charts but MC sings about how someone is "acting corny like Fritos" and we all have a meltdown. (I personally love that line, it's very clever.) I also agree that if Bey puts out an album of farts, we can expect it to go to iTunes #1 within 30 minutes. Same happened with Taylor Swift. Her team accidentally put up a few second clip of just static noise and it shot to #1 on iTunes almost immediately. Unfair. Beyonce can keep repeating "smack it smack it in the air" or go on a 10 minute loop singing just the 2 words "feeling myself" on and on, and it's a hit. MC releases a deep song called TAOLG, it's thrown out of the window. Ain't nobody got time for deep songs.

Tiina, I can't even pick one line in your last post that I don't agree with. Great post really. The ridiculous number of Grammy awards, the cringe-worthy hot-for-now lyrics, the rehearsed-to-perfection moves. Makes me more sad for Mariah now. All that talent and yet so underrated, I'm glad I found Mariah. Her worst/weakest songs are 1000 times better than what the hottest current stars put out. I almost feel bad for people who never got to hear the gems in MC's discography. Her most popular singles are definitely great but there are greater songs hidden in the albums that most people will never get to hear.

Britney and MC (54,002)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I would like to see this happen. It's mean to say MC shouldn't duet with her because Britney is struggling in her career. I'm sure most of you will roast people if they say people shouldn't duet with Mariah because MC's career is struggling. I think Britney and MC would make an amazing song, their sounds are so different with Britney being full on bubblegum pop and Mariah being the R&B hip hop queen. I vote yes for this.

Jeff Beacher. (53,999)

So according to Jeff, the video was supposed to be out last week. Mariah also said the video was supposed to be out right after Memorial Day, which means from her side the video was done. Plus she also went to Ellen to give a teaser, which I am sure was to hype it up because it was going to be released shortly. I am sure Brett didn't take long to finish it either. So it has to be someone from Epic blocking it. I don't know whose bright idea it was to not release it yet. What a waste to a video that was getting a lot of hype. After spending so long being anxious over the video and venting, I am now literally that emoticon, the one laughing but with tears falling down the eyes because I have gone a little cuckoo by now.

Me I am Mariah. The Misunderstood Chanteuse (53,995)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Mariah is definitely one of the most misunderstood public personalities in the world. Not just her behavior but her craft too. First of all the diva rumors/semi-truths. We know she likes the finer things in life and there is nothing wrong with it, she earned it, she can do whatever she wants with her money. People blow it out of proportions. Second, "MC is jealous of other female artists". People always focus so much on 2-3 female artists she has supposedly shaded but they don't speak a word when MC continuously praises other mainstream stars. In AI, while commenting, MC said Rihanna (who is so close to taking MC's record) is a worldwide superstar, she always praises Beyonce. Third, the music. I see a lot of people in comments sections of articles writing "can't stand her screeching voice" and all. Non-listeners probably think MC is always singing only in her whistle register or she always sings high haha. I think MC really uses the whistle register as a great icing rather than just showing it off. Like "Emotions was a song where she showed off her whistles" but in most songs MC uses it perfectly in places which adorns the songs beautifully. People didn't listen to songs like "Looking in" or others which are quite subtle yet delivers powerful messages. MC has such a diverse range of sounds and songs, but people generalize her songs based on just a view that they heard. There are a lot more, these are a few examples.

I completely agree with that point of view, infact I have always been thinking that. The "pseudo-feminism" thing. Always trying to come up with songs saying how women should embrace their natural beauty and body and then going ahead all over social media, photo shopping her "candid" photos all the time. Creating crazy thigh gaps that are so cringe worthy because we know she is naturally curvy (and might I add that the glorious curves are what really makes her sexy). Lightening her skin so much over the years. Why go out of your way to make yourself look like something you are not while telling others to do the opposite? Mixed messages all around. Then she had this image that she wants to keep her private life private (which I am fine with) but now she is so overexposed. Selling out her wedding videos and starting divorce rumors to sell tickets.

Oh wow how did I forget about those two songs. Plus I seriously think those are just two of many songs she has stashed away in a bid not to let IDJ waste them. She mentioned the secret album twice, I think it's ready and good to go. I honestly think MC needs damage control commercially real quick with at least a top 20 song. Since 2010 Mariah has been plagued with one commercial disappointment after another and with the exception fo #B all her other efforts have been damaging her career real bad. I don't think they should waste time releasing or re-releasing a Christmas album right now. They can do that next year. For now, she needs to focus on her commercial success. She'll always stay the queen of Christmas, why even bother trying to milk it dry?

Ugh, Lee dahlin' please let's not even joke about Mariah making a duet with Ariana. I mean Ariana isn't a bad singer, but I just don't want MC to be around her. I'd like to come up with a good explanation, but at this moment, I am a little blank, but pretty please ok? I'd like her to have one with Taylor though. They can both write and have somewhat contrasting sound that'll be interesting to hear. I also wouldn't mind something with Beyonce or Rihanna.

First of all, I don't think I ever called Mariah lazy. I said I agree with J.D. in a way. Has to do with her not being as sincere as she was before. Coming uber late to appearances, not coming at all sometimes (hello Rockefeller) and all that. I'm always one of the first to defend MC when it comes to her craft. So no it's not loopy, and I didn't expect Mariah to suddenly churn out 14 songs in 2 months to release within this year, I said she already has a huge stash of material, apparently a full secret album she has ready and she can just drop that. Because the way all her latest efforts are going, she is adding one commercial flop to her name or another. Plus what promotion are you even talking about right now? I don't see any happening at the moment, do you? And no, sorry my expecting Mariah to release a full album has nothing to do with her work ethic, I just don't think she spent 4 years writing only the songs included in MIAM. I'll repeat again, since you seem to read only what you think you see, I said drop the album you already have hidden. Not a new one. Why I said that? Because commercial success matters and "Infinity" can't seem to even cut it to top 100 anymore so there, she'll be left with yet another flop. Now isn't the time to take it slow because like it or not, the older she'll get, the lesser chances she'll have of redeeming herself.

I actually wasn't referring to you or anyone on the board when I brought up Ariana. I sometimes write stuff that I am thinking (MC related) and post it here. But since you brought it up, well yes, she may have taken the other route for Ariana, but I still think the "shade" was blown out of proportions. As for Beyonce, I believe pre-2013 Beyonce was somewhat nice and relate-able but after the huge success of the recent album, I always see Beyonce being uber condescending through her body language towards everyone else (fans and colleagues). Plus the girl thrives on one publicity stunt after another yet still Rihanna gets more #1's than her. I'd honestly take Mariah's massive ramblings over Beyonce's condescending/publicity churning bull crap. Anyways, just to clarify, this is in no way a diss to you. I'm just venting here. So sorry if it comes across the wrong way. Hope you get it.

Mariah about AI (53,947)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Even though I cringed when Mariah straight up dissed AI, I am glad that this time she didn't launch into calling Nicki Satan and all. I mean people really think MC hates on many female artists, so it's good that she instead said that it wasn't right for AI to pit two females against each other. Also people still go on and on about how Mariah dissed Ariana, but really that's bull crap because she just said that she wishes everyone longevity in their careers. I mean what do people expect her to say? "Oh I am totally down with people calling this girl the next me, heard her songs, she totally sounds like me." That would be fake and incorrect. To be the next Mariah they have to have a voice as rich and lush as Mariah, they have to be able to write songs that really no one else can think of and they also have to produce them. Just hitting the whistle register doesn't make one a neo-Mariah.

With all due respect, I would like to place the same question in front of you, why are you so offended that J.D. (who is currently not even working with her) made one comment that is not even getting any press time really but yet you seemed to have forgotten how bad L.A.'s comments sounded and it's still churning out articles with variations of his quotes. What matters more here? J.D.'s comment which didn't even cause any damage really or her current label boss (someone she thought will revive her or "save" her) completely debunking any hope of MC getting another hit (when MC really wants one)? Isn't L.A. just fueling the same fire that Mariah is done for good? Whereas if someone even takes J.D.'s comment seriously, they'll just be like "oh but we always knew MC is a diva and is always fashionably late".

New album (53,929)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Ugh how I wish Mariah has a change of heart and just releases the secret album she was talking about. From the sound of it, that album is intact and none of the songs were used on Chanteuse. She must also be confident enough with the materials that she was willing to make a surprise drop. Right after Vegas she'll have free time until Christmas season. She could have promoted it. Plus I have nagged about this before but where is the track she apparently worked with Morales on? He posted on social media that they are working together. Then who was the supposed surprise collaborator during MIAM era? We never got to know. We already knew about everyone who was working on the album, we never found out the surprise. Mariah, honey, just give out the secret album.
