Uggh after removing the accompanying link from my post, it seems weird because it seems vague as to what I was meaning. Basically I meant that even TMZ is now coming around for Mariah. Previously they never had anything nice to say about her. [Webmaster: The article is on my news page.]

Possible ways to boost the song on the charts (52,353)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

|
1) A viral video. This can be either done by Mariah having an awesome video that people will love watching and casual fans/non fans will be curious about enough to stream it. Or it can be done with a few celebrities doing recording themselves having fun while lip-syncing the song. This worked really well for Carly Ray Jepsen (both for CMM and IRLY) and Jason Derulo (Talk Dirty). 2) Massive promotion like appearances, social media events, great remixes and all the traditional stuff. Performances at major award shows. 3) A parody of the video by Bart Baker or Key Of Awesome. Parodies of Wrecking Ball and We Can't Stop helped it reach the top and for WB, I think it went to #1 for the second time after a parody of the song went viral. 4) Put it on a popular TV show especially one targetted at younger audiences. 5) YouTube makeup videos. Yes it sounds weird but I have been noticing recently that many movies are sponsoring major YouTube makeup gurus to recreate the looks in the movies (example Maleficent and Cinderella) and at the end of the tutorial they show a snippet of the movie. These famous YouTubers have millions of followers and they might decide to get the song. However, I think it's going to be costly and may not be feasible. Before anyone says "MC doesn't need gimmicks to get to the top", lets me real, the music industry is not what it was, things are done differently now.

Haha yes you were spot on with the prediction. And I also wish that I am missing something that everyone else is finding in the song and that I am wrong about it. This era was looking so good, I am sad today. But even if I don't love it yet, I hope that it works for others and that this single doesn't go to waste or is abandoned because MC already has had a streak of severely under performing singles, not because the songs are bad but because they failed to sell for various reasons. This song somehow needs to do really well. Mariah can't afford another under performing song because the world won't care why her previous singles really didn't work, they'll just take her failure and run with it because she is a legendary artist and everyone likes to tear down legends after putting them on pedestals. If this song doesn't appeal to the masses, it's going to be a problem because only the lambs can't push this song to the top.

Infinity (52,340)

It kills me to say this, but I never needed so many listens to a MC song to like it. I read the comments below on this board and I agree with bits and pieces of some of the points made. I did not like the "to infinity" part. I do like the verses and the bridge, the chorus isn't working for me and I think it's crucial for the chorus to work. I agree with the person that this may be a good album cut but a lead single, the only single of the rebirth, it is quite risky. When they hyped up the song so much, I did not expect this. I was hoping either for a party record, something people can blast in the cars during summer or a huge ballad (which like someone mentioned is doing pretty good nowadays). YME is hated by many but I loved the song on first listen. I have always wondered how MC chooses to place her whistles at the perfect place because they blend in so seamlessly but in this song, the whistle was completely disjointed and seemed to be there only for ornamental purposes. Also the laugh at the end did not blend in the song like Honey and UOOMF. It almost sounds like an afterthought. I agree with the person who said many people are probably loving the song because it's a Nick Cannon diss. MC is so good at diss songs (SIO, UOOMF, Someday) which has such memorable hooks and choruses that I am disappointed with this one. They really have to promote it to the max if they want another hit (I'm reserving hopes for #1 for later) and hit people with the video while the iron is hot. I am happy for the people loving the track and I would gladly be proven wrong about my opinion on this song because I want the best for MC.

Took me a while to feel the song, After several listens, I now like it, I guess after a few more I will love it. It took me a while to like TAOLG but now I absolutely love that song. Anyways, but let's be real, the lyric video, although a good idea (since she sings fast) was a bad visual. Especially the "close the door" part. I really want the video to come out real soon and please not next week. Event though I am still not completely into the song, I am happy to see a lot of lambs here and on twitter are really happy and excited about it. So I hope it works out for Mimi. I don't know where the 90s nostalgia is coming from though, it's quite a different sound from Mariah. It kind of reminds me of "Lips are Movin'" by Meghan Trainor. That's a song I really enjoy too. I'm not saying they sound alike, I'm just saying the song reminds me of it. Maybe because of the same theme. Another coincidence is that L.A. Reid is behind both the songs.

Music video (52,264)

So Mariah confirmed that the video won't be out tomorrow but there is a surprise. I don't know whether I should be upset that they didn't stick to the promise of the video and audio release on the same day (because I have been super excited about it) or should I be thankful that atleast the song will be out tomorrow and a surprise. When I heard she just shot the video 3 days before the release, I was worried that a rushed video is probably not a good idea. So maybe it's good that they are taking time. But on the other hand they did make an announcement about it so long ago, they could have shot the video earlier. Either ways, I want to be positive and start this era with positivity so I'll be happy that we are getting the song tomorrow and excited about the surprise and other events unfolding as the day goes on. Best of luck Team MC.

I was thinking the same about "Wendell". After posting that, I thought that ok no I'll not call her that anymore. I disagree with a lot of things she says about MC but just because a person is bad doesn't mean we should be bad to them as well. Either ignore them or just be polite, that should be the motto I guess. As for Kelly, I don't think it's necessary for everyone to fan girl over MC all the time. I mean Kelly is established on her own rights and she is a mom and it's her day (her birthday) so I wouldn't be too upset about her not being uber enthusiastic. The fact that she is a major Mariah fan is quite obvious. She has always named her as an inspiration and she completely fan girl-ed over Mariah on AI. And MC also was very sweet with her. In her defense she did reply to only Mariah and no other celeb whom I'm sure did wish her on her birthday. For everyone else she just left a general message. It's Kelly's day, it should be about her not about her fangirling.

The whole seating thing was a lie by the way. Andy Cohen had just written in his book that he had to switch places with Mariah for her better angle but he didn't say so negatively. He said he doesn't mind it because she is a big star. Wendy probably heard that and made up her own story. Because if Mariah would not need to switch places with Wendy, the spot reserved for the guest star is on the side Mariah actually prefers because she isn't comfortable with her left profile. So sitting in the original position reserved for the guests would have been ideal for Mariah whereas sitting on Wendy's side would leave what she considers her bad angle to be exposed to the camera. So that story is utterly and truly a lie. Moreover if a star of Mariah's caliber wanted to make an appearance on Wendy's show, I am more than sure Wendy would gladly make adjustments. No matter what she says.

I did see the recent episodes when I wrote my post, and trust me this is way nicer than what Wendy used to say about her a while back. She used to also support Nick but this time she said something like "You know how Nick seems to look like a nice guy while MC seems to be tough to get along with." It doesn't mean she said that Nick is a nice guy. Basically she just meant that Nick portrays an image that he is a nice guy. She keeps telling MC to leave Nick behind and move on. About the cuckoo thing, she used to be way worse about it. About Vegas being her last option, many lambs on this board have also said that Vegas is kind of Mariah's last chance to redeem herself. Because if Vegas goes wrong then it's going to reflect negatively on Mariah. Wendy did however say that she knows Mariah has the capability to redeem herself. I didn't say Wendy did a complete 180 and started showering Mariah with praises. I just said she is relatively nicer to her. I would be insecure too if my staff were leaking things about me to others. That comment wasn't made in a negative light. She did ask Mariah to fire everyone and start from scratch. She even declared in her other episode that Ariana cannot replace Mariah because she'll never be taken seriously. My basic point is people are warming up to her. I do agree about the fake lamb on her show. The guy Norman, is always agreeing on negative stuff about Mariah. I haven't heard a single time him saying that he doesn't agree with Wendy's bad comments about MC. Anyways, I shall stop wasting space on this board with Wendy's name. She is the last person we all need to care about. A non factor to say the least.

People being nice to Mariah (52,240)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
It's good to see people are finally being somewhat nice to Mariah. I'm hearing from different places that radios are playing her more now and the hosts are being nice about her. Even Wendell has really toned down her criticism of Mariah and now actually praise her somewhat. Her new PR team and management is doing a good work. I'm so glad I discovered MC's music earlier on and I can get bored of current songs but I never seem to get bored of any MC song. She is truly a musical legend, an innovator and a good human being. Hoping this year will re-introduce her to the new generation because dahlin' if you haven't heard Mariah's music, you don't know what music is about.

Infinity / a message for Mariah (52,239)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
After what seemed like eternity, we are finally close to Infinity (ooh that rhymes). I cannot wait. I'd like to add another MC reference: I'm scared and I'm nervous, I don't wanna be hurt, this bad because I want infinity to be #1. Haha. As excited as I am, I'll admit I am very nervous because a lot of hype has gone into this one song/video. It's almost like a return for Mariah and everything needs to go well. Since we are a day away from the release, I think we might get a message from Mariah or some details. I just want to wish Mariah all the best. Since it's like a celebration for her 25th year and her rebirth, I just want to say that Mariah, I love you and I appreciate you and your music. Just stay strong, keep your head up high, go all out for this song and Vegas and even then if it doesn't work out at least you will never have to regret because you gave it your all. You are a true legend and you touched lives of millions of people around the world. You're music truly heals people and that's something no one can take away from you. You'll always be my icon. Hugs and kisses.

Luke / Bianca's return (52,238)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

I would love the return of Bianca. MC was one of the first musicians to have an "alter ego" and a name for her fan base. She truly is an innovator. I loved the little Bianca/Mariah interview skit during the Rainbow era. MC is actually a good actress. She seemed genuinely amazed by how ignorant and rude "Bianca" is. Nowadays videos are really important for the song's success. This had better be a good video. I'm hopeful about it because MC and Brett are very confident about it. MC needs to completely stop doing videos that seems like a BTS for magazine shoots, of her only touching herself throughout the length of the video and sitting in one place. I'm not saying MC should be banned from touching herself haha but it should be done in moderation like in We Belong Together and It's Like That. We don't need another YM(E), which by the way could have been a great video because the backdrop was gorgeous. MC just needed to walk around man.

Music video (52,223)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

There is a rumor that MC shot the video or part of it at Las Vegas on the rooftop of Wynn and Encore. It's a rumor so I don't know about it's authenticity but rooftop plus dangerous stunts "rumors" are getting me really excited. The last videos with any stunts were Honey and Heartbreaker. Why do I get a feeling this video might include a helicopter too?

Oh my gosh, I had completely forgotten about that horrid photo shoot. It did her no good. The shots were really bad minus the cover photo. And just today someone reminded me about the extreme low budget (or absolutely no budget) video for Auld Lang Syne. I know someone here said they like the video. Look, I love MC but that video was horrid (all caps). I can't imagine how humiliated MC must have felt shooting for that video especially when she is used to getting big budgets for her videos. I think "burden" is the best way to describe their feelings towards Mariah. After Reid left, no one gave a crap about her. I think at one point both parties were just releasing albums to get done with the contract. I feel bad for blaming the lack of promotions completely on MC. I mean, yes she might be blamed partially, but I guess it's not easy to go from being the star, to a "burden" where you clearly get the vibe that you are not quite welcome here and that they'd much rather spend money on new and fresher "talents" (if one can call them talents, that is).

Epic / Sony (52,201)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I absolutely love the fact that Sony is backing up Mariah and that too quite strongly. From tweeting about her to staging social event reveals and keeping a the mystery around the new single. They are treating Mariah the way Mariah needs to be treated. IDJ on the other hand was treating Mariah like she was a burden. Which I think ultimately lead Mariah to lose confidence and give up on her projects. This is just a compilation album and yet it is getting more attention than her past few studio albums. I am so happy for Mariah. Epic seems to understand that they have a gem in their hands. Today's generation grew up listening to crap in the name of music. Mariah can change that. Only she (apart from the legendary King of Pop) has the ability to introduce this generation to great music even after so many years.

So MC is definitely appearing on Kimmel and Kelly & Michael in May. We are slowly getting details of their promotion plans. With it starting from the major event planned for the release date of Infinity. I wonder what the event will be like. A meet and greet? First performance of Infinity? MC making a grand entrance (which she will make eitherways haha, I won't accept or expect anything less).

About Migrate (52,062)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I always thought that MC wanted Migrate to be released but the label made the wrong call, but a while back I was going through the archives on MCA (duh) and I found an article which kind of shows maybe MC never planned to release Migrate. I don't remember the exact details, but the interviewer was like "Migrate is not that unique or great or whatever" and Mariah went something like "ofcourse Migrate won't be released as a single". So that kind of made me like What? Mariah are you for real? Lol Migrate would have eaten the charts up.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to make it to Vegas. I too am from Asia and as much as I want to go, I can't make it this time. You are right about the songs you mentioned and yes Migrate managed to chart on Billboard even without getting the single treatment and the same happened with Mine Again (in the R&B category). Mariah can come up with club bangers so effortlessly, without looking like she is trying hard and it just never fails to amaze me. There are many missed opportunities in her career and it will always bother me. I'm selfish when it comes to Mariah. I always want her to be on top and respected as the musical genius she is. I know she won't always be at the top, but hey a girl can dream.
