Maybe MC had him to sing in his chest voice to match her chest vocals on Yours.

I might get hate for this but to me, Yours is not that good of a song that should be receiving so much attention. I mean, I really don't want to hear Justin's squeaky falsetto voice there as well.

We are going to hear Yours one day when a young new Universal Music Group executive is searching through MC's vault curious about her Island Def Jam years. I wonder if we could start a Yours campaign to get heard sooner. My Rarities II X campaign has gotten me 107 extra followers since August.

There was a documentary about the nipplegate with Janet Jackson. And Justin didn't go well on the docu. That "Yours" with him as a duet wasn't released because he feared about his "good name" and career says it all. He's the real slim shady. Lol.

Rockin Around The Christmas Tree and Last Christmas just got a bunch new streams since NBC's Rockefeller Christmas special last night. These two songs will be #2 and #3 next week with MC. Stream heavy this weekend because they may overtake MC's top spot before January. I love the streaming battle that is happening this year just for the fun of it. Can someone post a Talk of the Charts update today or tomorrow?

Emotions formula (104,307)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|
|
Great reflection post, Terna. I was just thinking she could revisit the Emotions album with her current voice without all of the vocal acrobatics that made us know that MC had a 5-octave range. I have always thought since its release, Spell My Name was Toni Braxton revisiting her sophomore album, Secrets. So, it worked for Toni. Maybe it could work for MC. I know she has something special coming to the Lambs in 2024. I just don't want 5 songs written with Daniel Moore. I like him as a musician, but not him writing 5 songs with MC that sound like Portrait.

Emotions formula (104,297)
by Terna from Nigeria

I beg to differ, I don't need her trying to revisit an old formula, "Emotions" was also a near sophomore slump that just wasn't as strong as the first record, neither were the tunes even as memorable like the debut. Mariah is talented enough and creative enough to come up with something fresh, music genres out her comfort zone and especially working with newer producers who have their fingers on the current pulse of music and where it's going, for a fresh sound. Secondly her singing style is dated, too decorated she needs to tone down the girlie "curliecues" and sing straight, mainly with her chest voice, for balance and contrast, so that when she does falsett, it is a breath of fresh air (she did this with great pleasant effect in the late 90's), it just got over bearing from the Charmbracelet era, was too much and very off putting. Her vocal delivery has to be spot on for this new album. I do agree that she needs a return to adult contemporary ballads but sung in her range - "Through the Rain" suffered from this - a beautiful ballad, a very memorable melody but sung too high that the audience cannot sing along. (This is why Adele works so well.) Finally, a change of hair colour or return to her brunette curls - the former would be preferred. Get that tired blonde color retired at least for an era, it ages you 15 minutes.

We need another album of Hot AC and R&B ballads, Carole King type of ballads, inspirational bops and a 70s R&B female group sample. That was Emotions. We need another Emotions album.

I would rather have a 10 to 12 track album next year. It has been too long since we have had new music. Also, I am curious what she will talk about in the new songs since she has been writing with Daniel Moore. And there is probably a good chance that Roc and Roe will be singing on a track. The Rarities 2 can come in 2025.

I'm quite curious to read everyone's opinion. For 2024, would you rather have Mariah releases a 10 to 12 tract Rarities 2 album, where half of the songs are never before heard songs, or would you rather see here release a brand new 10 to 12 song studio album?

I think it is going to happen too. I worried two weeks ago after the first show. Lol. The five TV appearances have helped this year as well. Last weekend and today AIWFCIY was played on the network morning news programs when they returned from a commercial break. Of course, the hosts mentioned the queen of Christmas Mariah Carey.

Grio performances (104,240)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|

Her natural alto voice is shining through more when she speaks. Her voice reminds me of her 90s interviews. I think that a vocal coach or Mary Ann told her to limit her intake of alcohol this summer and see how your vocal range returns. It was evidence on most of Caution. I am anticipating that we will get more of her alto range with heavier tones and less belting on the new album.

Grio performances (104,236)
by Andrew from the UK

All three performances were absolutely awful. Jennifer Hudson and Patti Labelle plodded through songs - which are supposed to build in momentum - only for them both to climax in the most awful screeching. It's very easy to see why Mariah sold records in the way she did. And the less said about the lady singing with Boyz II Men the better.
Mariah's speech endearing. She was unassuming, funny, concise and beautiful. Her speaking voice is noticeably a lot deeper than before. I think she is now going through a lot more vocally than previously realised. Despite that, it was a good showing from her.

Jack Harlow is popular today because of his song What's Poppin went viral on Tik Tok. Lil Wayne, Tory Lanez, and Da Baby jumped on the remix and reached #2 on the Hot 100. He got a Grammy nomination and XXL Magazine named him apart of the 2020 Freshman class. His new song Lovin On Me is a R&B sample of 1995 Cadillac Dale's song Whatever (Bass Solique) and it is another Tik Tok viral sensation.

What a welcome surprise for Jennifer Hudson, Coco Jones and Boyz II Men, and the legendary Miss Patti Labelle to sing for MC. I loved all of their renditions especially Miss Patti's beautiful performance of Love Takes Time. I loved how JHud sang VOL in her own way and making MC smile. Coco Jones seemed nervous and kind of messed up the first verse to me with the wrong lyrics and some humming of the words. Maybe I'm wrong about her performance. No one will ever be able to sing MC's One Sweet Day like her.

There have only been 15 songs so far this year with Taylor's latest number 1 being Is It Over Now? Only 15 songs this year proves that streaming has really changed the Billboard Hot 100 by songs landed in the number #1 spot and staying for weeks without hardly any radio airplay. AIWFCIY was the first number #1 this year. Will MC end 2023 at number #1 and begin 2024 at number #1? [Webmaster: I think there were more than 15 songs released this year.]

by Robert-Anthony from United States

I am only going to be positive about the Billboard performance. The Lovers and Friends and Global concerts were not good vocally when she didn't lip sync to pre-corded tracks. Overall, she sounds better than she did 6 months ago. Either she had sought vocal training or her weight loss has improved her vocal abilities. I feel hopeful for MC to get her new album completed in 2024.

Could you list the positives of Mariah Carey's performance at Billboard? To caveat: not in terms of the ice-skating or what she wore or the background singers or the set design, etc., but in terms of Mariah Carey's performance, only. What was so good about it as to be called the "best this year" and, in that vein, what were the others you have seen this year lacking? Genuinely interested.

She has stopped using her hands when she performs live too. Her career has changed since E=MC2. Let's hope Usher (with LA. Reid influencing him) asks MC to join him on the Superbowl stage. The Superbowl event would add another accomplishment for MC. I believe it will happen because Usher mentioned her name because of the possibility that MC will be featured on a new album.

Bye Bye is when she first spent time with Nick. They were married 6 weeks later. She wasn't preggers then. That happened later. I do agree with Andrew, Mariah fell after #Beautiful and has been extra careful since. She broke her rib and dislocated her shoulder. The nerve damage she received down her left side got better, but she never stated if it fully healed, only that she did get full movement of her arm back. She's always worn high heels. They've just got higher and some of the corsets she wears aren't good for breath control. I think she's hyper focused on body structure for her diaphragm while hitting notes.

Merry Christmas (LP) (104,193)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

Great gesture Weston, but the general public doesn't even know MC released Merry Christmas II You. First, Def Jam's promotion of it was very poor. L.A. Reid was not happy to hear MC wanted to do a second Christmas album. Second, you can hardly find a used CD copy of it during the holidays. Def Jam didn't produce many copies of the CD. Since 2020, you can find the vinyl version more in the stores. Finally, Merry Christmas will always out perform the sequel because of AIWFCIY.
Oops, I misread your post for Merry Christmas II You. Too many glasses of Trader Joe's Two Buck Chuck.

Maybe the extreme stiffness is due to a recent lipposuction and a recent face lift? I don't know. Maybe she's recovering from recent surgeries. Because even though since 2010 her stage performances became very low energy in terms of movements and dancing, she was never this stiff. Though I'm enjoying some iconic moments from these Christmas shows, I share your thoughts about her recent awkward stiffness and lack of face expresion. I also feel good about her success with these shows, from the videos I've seen, people are enjoying them a lot and she's singing in front of big audiences again.

There are three people who need to be fired as soon as possible: the person who put those absurdly large breasts into Mariah Carey, the person who put Mariah Carey into that hideously inappropriate black dress and the person who put Mariah Carey in that cringeworthy show.
