Valentine's Day (40,874)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Rashidi, I think what you heard is the offer Mariah gave for charity. She urged fans to donate to a particular charity event and a winner will be chosen, who'll be flown to New York to Mariah's apartment (along with a loved one) and she'll sing some of their (the fan's) favorite songs one to one as a thank you for helping her raise money. Which is quite a sweet and generous thing for her to do. Other than that, the only other thing set for 14th February is her single release.

RJJ12, if I tell you, I'll have to kill you lol. L is just the first letter of my real name. Webmaster, I've been thinking for the past few days that it would be nice to have a like/dislike button! I am glad you decided to add it.

Mariah / Isaac (40,838)

Mariah seems to be collaborating with Nas, Wale, Darhyl and another "surprise collabo". This must be a diverse album because Mariah said that TAOLG shows which direction the album is going (raw ballads) and now we are getting to know a lot of people including different rappers are on board. Another TEOM/Butterfly in the making? Excited! Isaac, you are entitled to your opinion but do you think that maybe all these attacks are not just because of Nas, but also because you keep shooting down everyone else's opinion by making them sound like it's the most ridiculous opinion you have read. There are many messages of yours where you tell people off in a very rude manner, most of your messages start with "I don't care what you think" or something delusional like Marian still sounds like her earlier years and then there are the usual "who cares about Mariah's hair/dress/songs, Mariah is perfect". You were rude to the webmaster saying you don't care if you offended him, why not? He is the reason we all are able to come together here and discuss our love for Mariah. Lamb o chop wrote to him too, but the message wasn't harsh like yours. You are calling people non-factors, who gave you the right really? I get that you adore Mariah, so do we, in our own ways. You have to really let people just express their opinion instead of attacking everyone. You apologized and that's nice (if it's genuine), but avoid booing down people's opinions just because they are not the same as yours.

Collaborations (40,817)

How do you all feel about Mariah collaborating with a female artist? Not Celine or her contemporaries. More like Beyonce (they are pretty good friends I think), or Britney, Rihanna (I don't really like her), Christina Aguilera, Adele or Shakira? I think her and Beyonce could be huge. Britney too. She could do a "groovy" dance song (similar to Migrate), an uptempo "feel good" song or even a ballad. Also which other female collaborators can you think of? (Again, singers who are not her contemporaries.)

If you haven't been keeping up with the news, a new song is already on its way, with a release date (14th February). Mariah has already mentioned the album will be ready by late spring. There is no need to hate on "that guy" (Nick), he is the one that apparently makes Mariah happy and why blame him for the mess? Plus when did Mariah go full ghetto? She likes to add RnB flavors to her songs, and some of us like it. As far as reinventing goes, she did keep changing her style every now and then, so I really don't see what you mean. Go pull a Lady Gaga? Or Britney? It would be ridiculous, because then she'd be made fun of, like Madonna. I like that Mariah keeps it classy. She should tone the sexuality a little but other than that I really see no problems with her songs. They just don't get enough promotion, and that's why they don't chart well.

Mariah's FB, Licia (40,759)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

Wow so MC now has 17 million followers on FB. I am happy to see that it increased from 14 million to 17 million in less than 2 months! (I know I am being stupid and/or silly, but hey it excites me to see more people joining her fandom.) Licia you are right, I posted the same message a while back, where on earth is the video? I really want to see it. She had an accident and yet went to shoot the rest and then why drop it? The Jeezy remix was the only one I liked so I wanted to see what kind of video they came up with.

RJJ12, yes hopefully they will come up with a good video. I still didn't see the videos I told you about and I am not sure if Indrani was involved, but for Mariah's sake, I really hope she takes note from her videos from Butterfly and TEOM. You are totally right about Beautiful, the song was great but the video was horrible, sitting on a bike touching herself wearing that awful outfit. The second video of Beautiful (the explicit version where there is just one scene throughout, and she's dancing in that yellow dress for like 4 minutes) was so pointless, i don't even know why they released it. The Roof was great too, simple and classy. So is Breakdown. Edward, I was going to write this before but I forgot, you are right about how Mariah should be completely ready with videos and remixes and promotion strategies in mind. Unlike last time where she kept releasing remixes for Beautiful for 1 whole week for almost no good reason, it really did nothing much for the song, and only the Jeezy remix was good. I am glad she is already shooting the video, hopefully she will learn from her mistake and make this year completely about her (like 2005).

The Art Of Letting Go (40,736)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I agree, she should change the album name to something more positive for a new beginning, start completely afresh and slay it. Although I loved both Triumphant and Beautiful, I would be fine if she just leaves all those behind and only include new materials in this album, with the Valentine's day single being considered the first official single. Her videos should be more well thought and classy (no more H.A.T.E.U repeats). Sexy is fine, but not trying too hard! (It's Like That, Honey, WBT were so sexy and yet classy.) And the Whitney cover, if true, should be an album cut, not a single, at the very least not the lead single. Lead should be a Mariah original, possibly something upbeat to get the party started (like she described It's Like That). I know a lot of fans are just fine with Mariah releasing new material, and they don't care about chart success. As much as I am dying to hear some new MC originals, I want Mariah to bring her A game! She should take inspiration from how hard she worked to promote TEOM and apply the same strategy for this album. With all the nonsensical music that people release nowadays and get number 1s with, I want Mariah to shut them all up and show them how it's done. She might not be at her vocal best (one can't blame her, the lady has been putting her vocal chords through hell for years), but she still is and will be one of the best singers in the world. I really want Mariah to take over the charts and have all the attention back on her.

Hey! I think I can safely claim that I am the only Bangladeshi on this board. Not many people listen to Mariah here, and I am like obsessed with Mariah. About Indrani and TEOM, you are right, her cover and the promo shots were awesome in this era. Sultry yet classy. Indrani was also part of the original photoshoot which was the inspiration for the cover. I don't know if you have seen the originals, there is one pic which is exactly the same pose which Mariah recreated for the regular cover of TEOM. After reading your post I did a quick search to see if Indrani directed any videos, and two names came up. Alicia Keys' "New day" and Bowie's "Valentine's day". I am not sure at all if it's true or not, I did not get to check out the videos yet.

I hope the collabo everyone is excited about doesn't turn out to be Jeezy. I mean Side Effects was great, but I was expecting a more exciting collab. After 4 years, Jeezy isn't the artisit I want to be the surprise collab with, although I am fine with him being on another track.

So everyone seems to be excited about the Whitney cover. I can't really contribute to this, because I really have not listened to much of Whitney's work. But yes, it would be great if Mariah does a cover of Whitney's. I would like to know, if not Whitney, who else would you all like Mariah to cover? I'd love for another Michael Jackson cover (not necessarily of Jackson 5). MC and MJ are my ultimate favorite artists and I would love for her to cover a MJ song.

That dress (40,651)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
I agree with whoever said Mariah wasn't looking her best. That dress is definitely not for a red carpet event for actors. Usually for music awards, it's fine to wear flirty and somewhat casual dresses, but for events like these, I think it should always be classy, and those gloves are certainly not helping. The hair is alright, but not great. But I really can't get over the inappropriate dress (inappropriate for this show I mean) and that glove. What happened to her stylist? She could have worn a beautiful gown, with beautiful curls and subtle accessories. She's a beautiful woman, but Mariah needs to change her stylist. She looked gorgeous in that MTV awards show where she wore that long red dress during the Emancipation era.

Mariah / Isaac / Webmaster (40,612)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |

Lol wow Isaac went from being polite, starting/ending posts with thanks to a full blown "fair weather fan" basher. Seriously though, what is the problem if people talk about their disappointment? Mariah is human, she isn't perfect, she can make mistakes, so I don't see why fans are attacked if they dare say anything apart from sugar coated stuff. Jeez! And also I don't really get the whole "Without You was a remake not an MC song". The webmaster just said he's been a fan since Without You, a song for which a lot of people became Mariah fan. Remake or not what does it matter? Moving on, webmaster, thank you for this amazing site, this is the first board I ever wrote in. It's fun to interact with other MC fans (except some bleak ones, but that's okay). A lot of people are not really familiar with Mariah here in my country and most people my age are into other newer artists, so I really don't get to discuss MC with them as much as I would like (although I do force some of my friends to listen to her stuff, but obviously they don't know much). So yes , thanks and I love that you are fair with stuff you post, good or bad. Lastly can someone please tell me where you all got the quote of Mariah saying she will be releasing something with an artist she previously worked with? I missed that one! Thank you.

Fans (40,588)

I was disappointed too, because admit it or not most of us thought it was music related. The whole "taking 3 days to announce" suggested it was music related, but well we were wrong. I think someone wrote that Mariah would never call anything music related a "pip announcement". That's wrong, she always calls things she loves/is excited about "pip" and "pow". I can relate to the fans who were disappointed, but I agree that calling her names and insulting her just because she did not announce anything related to the album is a bit too much. It's fine to be disappointed. But from what I hear, fans on FB and twitter are saying bad things about her, and that's kinda over reacting. Regarding other cases where fans attack people who points out Mariah's mistakes, I will have to say that people shouldn't call critical fans "fair weather fans", we love MC as much if not more than you, but unlike people or should I go ahead and say "fanatics" (?), we choose to let Mariah know where she went wrong instead of drowning her with praises and defending something when it was indeed a wrong move. Just so it's clear, the last part wasn't about the announcement, it is about general cases. I am supportive of MC's charity work.

I agree with you. I mean yes I was disappointed about the announcement, but that doesn't mean people will write her off. It's an amazing gesture on he part, she is giving away something so personal. In fact there was even a discussion on this board a while back about the necklace if I am not mistaken. I would die to be able to enter and win that contest. Entering Mariah's home is a huge deal by itself, having her sing to me personally would give me a heart attack on spot, and on top of that her giving me a part of her history, I'll die for sure. Like many fans I am disappointed too, but it's fine, we waited so long, and she already said the new single is out next month, I'm cool with it. However I do want her to bring her best this time, strong songs, amazing promotions, great/meaningful videos. If she loves being sexy I don't mind, but the videos should be like Heartbreaker, Honey, It's Like That and other great video concepts she had instead of being like #Beautiful, H.A.T.E.U. and "things of that nature" which looks like it was done on low budget and without proper planning/storyline.

Chill out a little. You gave a name which I didn't like so what? My point of view shouldn't determine anything. But yes I do like your idea of bringing guests, I enjoyed it when it was done in TEOM. I would pick a name but for that I would like to wait and see what's the name of her next single or album, so that the name is more "current". But off the top of my head I'd say "the Mariah Carey 2014 World Tour", "Mariah Carey Forever", "the Triumphant world tour" (I m sure she won't use it), "Mariah Carey I''m that chick tour" (ok maybe i'm stretching it here). "Memoirs the Mariah Carey world tour", "Mariah Carey: for the record", "I Am Mariah Carey", "Mariah Carey the vision". My set list would be- (not in that order though) Butterfly I stay in love Without you Never forget you Breakdown The art of letting go Bringin' on the heartbreak Fly like a bird The one Heartbreaker I still believe Inseperable I chose these because some of these showcases her amazing range, some she doesn't sing at all nowadays and some more r&b influenced. I would probably add some more, but yes I would like her to sing these. Although some may have to be cut out due to time constraints.

Announcement / tour game (40,552)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
Ugh super disappointed darling. Why Mariah why (said like Mariah). I was checking her page again and again to read the announcement even though I was pretty sure it would be just the official single announcement. Then after so long it arrives and it's about the charity, which is a great gesture on her part, but like someone else pointed out, why wait for 2 days to announce it? Plus no details whatsoever on the new single. Just that it comes out on February. Only people who saw the NYE performance know the date fixed is 14th February. With exactly a month left shouldn't she start with hyping up the single so that it gets a lot of attention? I almost expected the announcement would be of the album. But alas. I'll only wait on MC, if it was anyone else I would have given up. But this time I want her to do it right. And about the other "game" about dream tour, I wouldn't want it to be called "Art of letting go", it would sound like a farewell album. Plus the "intimate night" part has already been used for Charmbracelet, right? So what's the point?

So I have been checking her Facebook page "likes" every now and then and I am happy to see it has been increasing almost on a daily basis. That's a good thing, right? I think in the last 2 months or less alone there has been an increase by a million! I am happy. Wasn't there supposed to be an announcement today? Was there any time specified?

Imperfect (40,408)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|
|
LambilyWW, I know that only that part was meant for me, I was just saying that instead of talking about the fact that it's technically not a single for the new album, you should just look at the positive side of it. Anyways all is good, it's not a huge deal. And just so we are clear, the first part of my previous message was directed at you, the second half was just my two bits about Mimi. While staying on the topic of Almost Home and Triumphant, I would also like to add that I loved Mariah's discarded song "Imperfect". I think someone said in a post here before that Mariah dropped it because it was autotuned and she did not want to follow that path. I don't know if that's the reason or it's because she thought it wasn't a strong song, but personally I really liked it and I also made one of my non-lamb friend hear it (I force her to hear a lot of Mimi's songs) and even she was praising it and asking why she did not include it on Memoirs. Now obviously Mimi knows more about the music industry than I do, but I wouldn't mind if she has a single which is autotuned like Migrate or I'm That Chick. Those are cute too.
