Why is this happening in the United States? Does anyone *actually* know (rather than postulating)? How about justice for Migrate and she releases it as a single if the album goes top 10?

On my phone whilst reading this board about Just Be Good To Me I was listening to a review of the 80s move Total Recall on YouTube on my work phone. All of a sudden I could faintly [hear] the song in the background. I actually thought MCA was playing music. It was coming from the review on the movie in my other phone. Totally freaked out. Probably not that interesting. But. Totally. Freaked. Out.

Let's Talk About Love (93,783)
by Andrew from the United Kingdom
| |
|
|
So I've been watching this documentary about the making of Let's Talk About Love by Celine Dion in 1997. Walter Afanasieff is in it, sat at the piano watching Celine and Barbra fawn over each other in the most nauseating way. It is honestly as vomit inducing as the song they sing. His face is a picture. He is looking at them like they are bat shit cray cray and he would rather be anywhere but there. This album must have been recorded just after Butterfly. I can imagine him longing to be back in the studio with Mariah. Let's Talk About Love sold 31 million albums which is incredible given that it is a shite album into which they threw every top producer, writer, performer they could could find. It's a mess and quite boring (except for Immortality and The Reason). Tell Him is the most sickening, awkward, cringe song and video I have ever heard and seen. It makes me giggle in embarrassment even when I'm on my own. If it were not for the original version of My Heart Will Go On being on the album it would not have sold nearly as much. Butterfly is the much better album. It's quite frustrating that it did not sell well. But it didnt have any big number on it (they should have pushed Whenever You Call). Watch the documentary though. Watching Celine produce her prime vocals in a studio is really quite something. As is glimpsing Walter post the divorce from Mariah.

He certainly sounds insane. However: "I believe [Mariah] has more natural talent than both Madonna and Janet, in terms of acting ability. Maybe, even, Whitney." So said you in October 2019. Those in glass houses... as they say.

I have been so advised to STFU so I will. Only you can get away with it, though. As for your song of the day, I like the (really) random choice. It is annoying as hell that Glitter is not on Spotify etc. I am, however (after the afternoon singing MTV Unplugged out loud twice in succession whilst sunbathing, much to my neighbours chagrin) all about Alanis Morrissette and Jagged Little Pill now. I've just found out she is in London in September celebrating 25 years since it was released in June and I am completely psyched. Jagged Little Pill is a seminal, amazing piece of music. As much as I regret that Mariah lost out in so many ways to it, credit where it is due: Jagged Little Pill was the soundtrack to an entire year. Celine and Alanis in London in the same month. Canada has three queens, not one. And they all be in my yard in September.

The examples given are hardly what I am talking about, and I suspect that those who would support the examples know this. Holding your head in an alternative position for the purposes of a pose (especially for professional photography as guided by a professional photographer) is not the same thing. Rather than post pictures of my own examples you can just go back through recent news articles posted here and some of the photographs that Eric has used to accompany them (e.g. the article, "Mariah has a chaise longue in her kitchen"). If you really tell me that you cannot see the difference in what is physically happening between Mariah turning her chin to (approaching a) 90 degree angle in order to stretch the skin and appear thinner and her tilting her head back in poses for (mostly) professional photographs, and that you cannot attribute the obvious reason as to why it is happening, then arguing this would be like arguing science to a religious zealot. You likely believe what you want to believe because you want to believe it and manipulate evidence to fit the narrative. As the old adage would go: "You can win an argument against a liberal, but you cannot convince him/her that you've won". In this case, and many cases, I would just replace the word "liberal" with "lamb'" Or, simply put, "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it's raining." Meanwhile back at the ranch...

I googled "Mariah Carey 1991" and hit Images to look for the head tilt. Nothing. I then did "Mariah Carey 1992" and so on. Nothing. Even from my own memory she has never done anything as ridiculous as this. It's not just moving her head to the side or dropping it for a sultry pose, it's an extreme head tilt and a twisting of the chin so the neck and chin skin is stretched. I can't even believe I am debating this. Or perhaps I can. She keeps doing this really ridiculous pose that nobody famous has ever done ever in the history of the world and it's simply done to tighten the skin and make her look thinner. This is quite evident. It looks ridiculous. And rather than telling her "Stop it" people would excuse it. This is why I would be an awesome manager for her. I wouldn't enable nonsense. Oh, I know, I know, I'm such a hayyytuh.

Let me translate and make briefer your post: Whereas J.Lo and Jennifer Aniston work hard to look good, Mariah is lazy so relies upon weird head tilts (that make her look like she's standing on a magnet with one earring in).
Nothing disputed there. But the fact that she has not succumbed to elective surgeries that have drastically altered her face does not excuse the laziness and weird head tilting. It's a bit ad absurdum to invoke a kind of moral relativism along the lines of "I did punch someone which is bad, but I didn't kill them, so it's less bad than you originally thought".
For the life of me I don't understand why she just doesn't work out and eat well. She has a gym in her house and her boyfriend could probably train her with his eyes closed. But if not, please Mariah, just either stop standing on the magnet, or take the earring out. You look, as we would say in England, daft.

Been listening to this in the sun all morning and I do agree this should have been on Caution - perhaps after GTFO and before With You. I am a tad annoyed by it though (when I am ever not?): Mariah is not in it nearly enough as she should be.

If the head tilt "works"? It depends what you think "working" is? What does it achieve? We know that in almost every photo for three years people around her are facing the camera and Mariah has her head lolling to one side like she's had a stroke. So what does it achieve? If the suggestion is it's because of the supposed "good" side of her face then that's not really arguable. She never used to do it and in many of the photos she is facing right side on so there is no need. It is clearly to stretch out the double chin. So what's better? To have a bit of a chin in photos? Or to rotate your head until you look like Upside-down Face from Family Guy? Or is it secret option number 3? Lose weight and hold your head up like a human being? I think the answer here is a tad too obvious.

Never Have I Ever (93,740)

Mariah is mentioned in the new Netflix programme Never Have I Ever trailer. Girl tries to hit on a boy and says "You smell great today." "It's Forever by Mariah Carey," replies the obviously gay boy. It was actually quite funny.

It's obviously not a selfie and judging from the angle it was taken by Tanaka. It appears to be staged. Her make-up is so heavy and her nails are perfect. Does somebody in quarantine for a month really go to all this effort? Also the photo is irritating for the main reason that all Mariah photos are irritating post 2017: the head tilt. I think I would rather lose weight than have every photo of me with my face at a 90 degree angle. Even in photos of Mariah with other people she does it. Does she look at these images later and think, "Wow this head tilting thing really looks good"? If it were a toss up between losing weight and looking like I was trying to bite my left ear off in every photo I think I would just lose weight. Or accept being overweight and forget about it. The head tilt thing is actually weird. No, it's beyond weird. Just one person tell me it looks normal/good with substantial reasoning.

You just reminded me of this version of Till The End Of Time and we are exactly 1 month away from the 3 year anniversary. I suppose it's good to have timeless songs like this which remind us of the far-too-fast passage of it. I do, though, now, find the song a bit difficult to listen to. He'd be 32 years old now, Martyn. You rest in peace, lad.

I think I wrote that because you didn't include it in the list. Yesterday I listened to Emotions (album) whilst running, start to finish. And I have to say it is so much better than I remember it. Some of the melodies are incredible, e.g. "Precious love burning so deeply" is really quite moving. I just think it's possibly the production that puts people off. It's very "tinny" for want of a better word. Music Box is a lot more "wholesome". Again, for want of a better word.

I did listen to the a capella Butterfly last night and I don't think I was too hard on Butterfly. It's very, very slow, but has a terrific melody. I actually really love listening to Mariah's stripped a capellas, sometimes more than the actual songs. I think the production on Outside has started to sound a little bit dated. The vocal only version is amazing and actually makes me appreciate the song more. The gravel in her voice when she sings "try and try to tell yourself" during the climax actually chokes me up every time I hear it. Sometimes it's good to remove the instrumentation and just listen to the vocal so you can fully appreciate what she achieved in the studio. It is possibly the cure for that there ear cancer Jeremimi is causing.

You can only really "bully" someone who is vulnerable and I see no reason to consider you as such, save perhaps for your historically evident lack of intellect. Your attempt (yet again) to paint yourself as a victim is as boring as it overused.
Hypothesising what would have happened in Mariah's career had she and Tommy split is interesting. You should know - you did it. You declared with absolute certainty that Butterfly would not have been recorded, right before you said the exercise was "redundant and tiresome". Ergo, "I have the answer and nobody else should even challenge it." What a "bully". Shockingly unclever.

Err, I always thought Butterfly underperformed because it was *too* slow. By the end of the second chorus you feel like you've invested a good part of your lifespan to the song. You could read the first half of War And Peace between the first chorus and the second verse. I just listened to Butterfly again and I am certain I had a grey hair at the end of it that was not there at the beginning.

You can cry about people trying to shut other people's opinions down all you like. But that is exactly what you, yourself, did. The poster posed an interesting hypothetical: just as we look back in our own lives to important junctures and wonder "what if...?" so too did the poster wonder, having correctly identified that Tommy and Mariah separating created a specific divergent path in Mariah's life, what would have happened to Mariah's career and probably Mariah herself had they worked things out. It is an interesting and fun game. Seemingly predicting Mariah would be criticised, you attempted to shut it down by ridiculing anyone who took part. And now you claim victimhood? I would have had respect for your position if you'd stuck to it with dignity. But you cannot claim to be a victim of other people shutting you down. The irony is immense and you sound ridiculous yourself.
However, I also don't think it necessary for people to keep attacking you. You're obviously not a mean person, even if sounding a bit spiteful, here. I think perhaps the lockdown is getting to everyone. (Yea, Andrew from the UK is calling you mean-spirited: your blood must be boiling right now.)
On that subject I would have thought on a lockdown people would have more time on their hands and post more here. They are not, so if more people actually do post let's try not to shut them down so it is a bit more welcoming. I understand the irony here also as I am normally first to tell people they are idiots. But even if the lockdowns are not actually getting rid of the virus or making much better in the real world, we can at least re-evaluate how we think about life and try to be a bit more positive.
If Brandon and I can be nice to each other, and I don't call him a delusional idiot in need of serious counselling, then there's hope for everyone, right?

Will, does it not feel like most fans avoid Music Box, as you seemingly do? It is her CoBoWo of the 90s. It is the album that everyone bought because everyone wanted diva vocals at that time. It made Mariah internationally. Why do fans hate it?

All I Want For Christmas Is Tokyo Dome 2020 (93,699)
by Andrew from the United Kingdom

Mariah should play the Tokyo Dome again. It would be the greatest celebration of her 30 year anniversary to repeat the record she made in 1996. So, as Mariah's manager-in-waiting, I propose the following: the All I Want For Christmas Is You Tour 2020 should be at Tokyo Dome for 3 nights in December. That's 150,000 bums on seats she needs, but it's Japan - I think she could pull it off. They would drink her sweat if she bottled it. Sweat, sweat fantasy, baby.
Of course, Mariah should then fly to Europe to perform the fourth and final show at the 02 Arena in London. Because it's the best arena in the world in the best city in the world. And the best fan in the world just happens to live right by it.

Agree and disagree. I can choose best vocals for different categories. But it is arbitrary and, like most lists, if you asked me to do the same thing in a few months I would come out with something completely different, perhaps. At least it's an excuse for a list.
Best soulful vocal: Anytime You Need A Friend Best power vocal: All I've Ever Wanted Best elastic vocal: Fantasy Best whisper vocal: Lead The Way Best R&B vocal: Stay The Night Best dance vocal: Fantasy (Def Club) Best live vocal: Hero @ Tokyo Dome Best duet vocal: I'll Be There @ Police Athletic League (Here is Mariah Carey)
(Wait for the absolute muppets with questionable personalities to write three or four things because they "ooh just can't choose".)
