Re: GTFO snips (83,688) (83,695) by Ethan from United States
I agree with you Atwood. Sometimes people ("lambs") are asking too much. It's not like Mariah hasn't said a bad word in her songs before. Prior to 2014, it was bleeped out and she never released any explicit version content. But #Beautiful was the start. And then people criticized/freaked out when she used the hashtag symbol (#) but to me Mariah is the leader in things (most of the times). This song definitely sounds more fresh than I Don't. And let's face it, it's not 2005's TEOM era/period anymore because artists in her age range will have a hard time to get their songs played on radio and other outlets. Where's Dinero, Fall In Line, and Made For Now? It's the reality but there's something about Mariah because I know in every album, there's an emotional and powerful ballad awaits to be listened to and that's all it matters. Plus no one has come out and said it's comeback. Accordingly to Mariah, there's never a comeback. It's just people that counted her out. Remember this? Haha.

Re: O coming soon? (83,649) (83,651) by Ethan from United States
It'd be crazy if she drops the single right after last show tonight in Vegas. We all know something's coming soon.

The Butterfly Returns setlist (83,559) by Ethan from United States
I hope Mariah's team really thinks about updating the setlist to accommodate all kinds of fans. Seriously, Vegas is a worldly city filled with attractions and foreign tourists. It'd be smart to include Without You to the setlist since it's a global smash hit. I'm sure there will be lots of people who'd attend the show just to see her sing it. I don't really care if she lips the chorus. She's sung it live a few times and it sounds fine. I'd take One Sweet Day off the list. I've listened to it live a few times and it doesn't have the same effect. To me, Daniel's voice is a bit soft for it and Trey is more fitting with I'll Be There. And her voice is not the same as in the 90s so I don't know why she's attempting to sing it again. I get it. It's for the nostalgia and stuff. So please include Without You and When You Believe to the finale before Hero. Take out One Sweet Day please.

Listening session (83,482) by Ethan from United States
While people on social media are freaking about the recent news of a possible performance on AMA this October, no one seems to care that she just had a listening session with Cha Cha in IG's story. Haha. I wonder if it's a single that she just did or they were listening to the entire finished album. Sooner or later, new music will drop and it will be definitely this year.

Ain’t No Way (83,396) by Ethan from United States
It’d be great to have Mariah work with Mary J Blige again for a duet of Ain’t No Way as a tribute to Aretha. I’m not sure if that’s too soon for an album. Mary and Whitney had sung this for Divas Live in 1999 and I wish to hear Mariah and Mary’s version. I’m hopeful for a cover as Mariah tends to do one for her album but we will have to see and wait if she even does one this time.

Re: Show duration (83,377) (83,379) by Ethan from United States
Haha. I thought that as well but for some reasons, I think residencies at CP tend to be on time. I missed VOL when I went to the show back in May 2015. It started right at 8 PM. I'm not sure how it is for the second residency but I'd say if it starts late, it's around 15-30 minutes max.

Re: Album release and title (83,318) (83,325) by Ethan from United States
Thanks for your opinion Andrew. I'm looking forward to it because I believe she deserves a second chance - not counting Glitter - such very unfortunate timing of release and I think most lambs agree it's a great album/soundtrack. Charmbracelet is underrated but it yielded her best tour ever (I think most lambs agree with me on that). To me, the only "failed" album/time is MIAM because it doesn't seem coherent (and other factors of course) but contains several great cuts - #Beautiful, Faded, MILG, and IDKWTD. I'm optimistic about this time around due to better management and it seems like she knew she needs to take a bit more serious. It's just the music business structure on female artists late 30s and over 40s. We will all have to wait and see.

Album release and title (83,310) by Ethan from United States
It's probably going to be at the end of the year to make the cut for the Grammys 2020. It'd not be wise to have it released before October 1 for the Grammys 2019 (you know the Grammys will give it to TS or someone else), maybe a single if we're lucky. Yes, I believe she still wants to get that AOTY and ROTY in her lifetime as she's been robbed several times. It doesn't make sense to release a single anytime soon while she's coming back to Las Vegas end of August and going on tour for the hits October/November and AIWFCIY in December. Just remember, most artists record tend to record twice the number of singles that make the final album cut - that's why we have unreleased and b-side tracks. Technically, she just started "working" at the beginning of this year. If she's fully committed, she can turn it around just like she did for E=MC2 and MOAIA - a year apart. On a different topic, as crazy as it sounds, it'd be cool if she names the new album "The Butterfly Returns". It's quite fitting. No more FB/IG posts. Just release it when it's ready. It was stated to be released at the end of last year so let's make it happen by end of this year.

I Still Believe (83,105) by Ethan from United States
I agree with you all that she should have gone back to the studio and re-recorded the song to fit her current tone/voice. I wonder if it's the last minute decision to switch out CTTA and perform ISB with no preparation. It's unfortunate that it made the show less successful and not coherent. Her ISB performance on the Billboard Music Awards (BMA) was nowhere near and didn't sound anything like the album version at all but it was a great live performance and considered one of the best performances on BMA. I feel like you either go back to the studio and layer vocals/mix all the songs like Britney's team did or try to sing live over playback background vocals at much as possible. I hope the 2nd leg will be better with change/improvement as I plan to see it in September.

Re: The Butterfly Returns setlist (83,050) (83,091) by Ethan from United States
Oh wow. I feel like someone saw this post and told Mimi to alternately switch between CTTA and ISB. So she finally did ISB on Tuesday 7/10. Unfortunately, it wasn't all live. Hopefully, they will include WYB in addition to Hero for the encore.

The Butterfly Returns setlist (83,050) by Ethan from United States
The setlist is great for her current voice right now. Although I do want her to alternately switch between "Can't Take That Away" and "I Still Believe", I'm completely fine with just having the Mariah's Theme song because it's more fitting with the show since it's an empowered song. And we don't want her to strain her voice for singing more than 18-20 songs.
So all I hope is she can add one more song and I wish all the lambs out there will campaign for this to have "When You Believe" added to the encore before "Hero". I think these songs' messages go well together and it's for the nostalgia, the 90s, and the ultimate divas duet. She's done for the European fans (even though the song wasn't not a big hit in general) so I wish she will do it for the US fans. I hope it's not the permission issue that prevents adding the song to the setlist. Who's with me?

Let's move on, make it work PR Team (70,890) by Ethan from United States
The only one thing to redeem the NYE's performance is the PR team needs to get Mariah perform live (at least 75% of it) at the Grammys this year, paying tribute to Prince and/or George Michael. Good luck Stellaif you're reading this. On than that, I'll see her on tour with Lionel Richie this spring. I can't wait for the ballads and Endless Love. Anyway, either way she's getting media coverage.

#Beautiful (54,567) by Ethan from United States
It was a decent hit. It was a new sound for Mariah and everyone most loved it. It sold over 1 million copies and that was a big achievement for Mariah at the era of 2013. In my opinion, it didn't become a huge hit because of the mediocre live performances. They were awkward for me at some point. Miguel was off pitch most of the times for some reasons and Mariah was trying to be cute and playful, which didn't work for me. And after all the delays and push backs, the entire album didn't pick up. I think if the cd was released at the original, it would do better than Memoirs and perhaps close to E=MC2 that was around 1-2 million copies.

Shelly / TS / longevity (53,570) by Ethan from United States
I agree with you Shelly although I didn't recognize your other abbreviations. The whole music industry/award shows are not legit anymore. Back in the days, Grammy Awards was the last one to be televised after BBMA and AMA. Nowadays, you have I Heart Radio and BBMA shows presented after the Grammys to show that it's about hype/trend. You will definitely won't see that with the Oscars because it's legit. I was disappointed in TS as well. If she and the entire audience stood up for the auto-tuned/prerecorded music of Selena Gomez's The Heart Wants What It Wants performance at the AMAs, then she should have stood up and showed some respect. But I'm happy that they got Idina Menzel to do the intro. It's truly a singer-singer to one another recognition. In the end, it's about longevity. I do believe that TS will go far because she's talented but at some point it will fade out as well. Mariah did it in 93-96 with Music Box and Daydream and she did it again in 05-08 with TMOM and E=MC2 (I still believe it was a success although there was one hit of Touch My Body). And she will always have Christmas as her own. Nobody will touch that. Haha. Yes nobody. And L.A. Reid is bluntly frank. We see that in Celine and Madonna who both have a hard time of having their music played on the radio even after collaborated with younger artists and producers. Overall, all 3 of them are still relevant and having success in the music industry. I can't say the same thing with other nameless acts.

It all makes sense (53,552) by Ethan from United States
Yes to the VOL and Infinity performance on Jimmy Kimmel. So much better than BBMA. She's always said it that she feels more comfortable when it's not an award or an official show. She mentioned it about her Vegas residency dress rehearsal and this Jimmy Kimmel mini concert showed. They're both less pressure and stressful for her. Thus, she sounded much better and more comfortable on stage. She had more body/hand movements. I have to give a shout-out to her backup singers as well. I love them. They're always so creative with their hand movements for all of Mariah's songs while singing back-up. They have them down. And it all makes sense that the CD arrived on May 18th in the US because she's had 18 #1s. Haha. I think it was on purpose. Now if only the music video comes out next week continueing the momentum of Jimmy Kimmel and Live with Kelly and Michael, it will boost up the sales with radio additions of Infinity. After May, she can rest and and promote more of #1 to Infinity since she's on a break at Caesars Palace until July. I hope she does more TV show performances.

#1 To Infinity and Vegas residency (53,492) by Ethan from United States
I'm very glad and happy that both the single and CD are climbing up and staying steady on the U.S. chart. She still has a week of promotions so it's good news. I hope with all these promotions, she won't cancel another show like the Wednesday or any of the weekend shows. I think it's her first awards show performance in the U.S. since the 2006 Grammy Awards (I don't count the recent World Music Awards). I agree with some of you that it was good and safe. She was nervous and yet I was hoping that she could have moved more like when she performed You Don't Know What To Do on the Today Show a year ago. Even though she had her sling on and stayed at one place, she still showed some body gesture and hand moves and attitude because of the song message. I've noticed that she moves her right arm/hand, it's a bit stiff. If you guys watch her recent clips on YouTube or Instagram, you know what I'm talking about. Perhaps the fall has caused her some permanent roughness and stiffness. That's just my theory. Onto the Vegas residency, I'm glad that she's got rid of the first pink dress for the silver dress at the BBMA to perform on her last Sunday show. I've been secretly hoping that she will recreate her WBT MTV Movie Awards for the Vegas residency. It's classy and dramatic. I agree with Mimi L that she looks great in red and only if she does that performance again with another red dress. And please lose the last pink dress for any of those Versace dresses she's been wearing.

Mariah Carey's five most amazing TV performances (53,424) by Ethan from United States
I'm a bit surprised of the roller coaster media coverage that Mariah has been receiving. All these ups and downs. Haha. Here's the new Billboard's article. And I think they forgot her 2006 Grammy Awards performance. That was amazing. I mean she's had many other most amazing performances: 1992 Grammy Awards performance of If It's Over and 1991 MTV Video Music Awards of Emotions. Billboard should have made it the Top 10 list instead. Haha. It's just a wish.

Looks like MC is getting something (53,406) by Ethan from United States
There's a leaked schedule and after her performance is Celine/Kelly segment. It's a presentation so I assume that they're gonna do a spill of some sort about MC. I hope she's getting something and plus these two divas have been amicable with MC. They talk about each other or reference each other lately so it looks like good news.

BBMA (53,363) by Ethan from United States
Mariah should pull the Divas 1998 concert hair as she sits in front of Nicki. Haha. Just kidding. But I won't mind if she does. The hair, the diva performance, and perhaps the special award. They go together in one or another way. I ordered the #1 To Infinity album but it hasn't come yet. Did anyone receive it already in the US?

First cancelled show (53,279) by Ethan from United States
Mariah just cancelled her first show and it wasn't rescheduled. I hope she will be fine this weekend, especially with 2 shows in a row, a BBMA performance, and Jimmy Kimmel concert. Most important, I hope she will be on vocal rest and in shape by Memorial Day weekend so I can see on May 24.

Mariah's personal life and Vegas' dresses (53,180) by Ethan from United States
Here's my conspiracy theory. As elusive and secretive she is, I feel like she's been dropping hints. First, one and only "Looking In" performance only a few days after she fell. It's interesting to see there were no pictures of Nick by her side (in the hospital, when she was discharged and so on) whereas when he was sick, she was by his side (on the hospital bed). Then comes the MIAM album. I don't think it's quite a coincidence. Every marriage has its ups and downs and only they know what's truly going on. Looking back, she was at her thinnest at 2008. I feel like she was trying to please Nick. I mean I can understand that if I was her, I'd feel to look fit all the time with the man 11 years younger who's constantly working out and having a 6-pack abs. I would feel insecure and not confident all the time. After the pregnancy, I'm sure it's hard for her to get back in shape and maintain it while raising two children. Yes there are nannies but in the end she's a mother and she still takes care of them more or less. I wish there's a video version of the Daily Mail interview to see her facial and body expressions when she talked about it. It's heartbreaking. I completely understand of what she said "If you cry you're not going to stop crying." It's so true. She must have cried when the kids weren't around or in the bathroom or something. And to the pink dresses, please change them to the red one you were on top of Empire State building promoting YME or the black Versace dress.

Outfits / Mariah's voice (53,090) by Ethan from United States
I'm glad that some people here thought the pink dress is hideous. In fact, both are. Mariah has a blue dress in there and I don't know when she is going to switch it up. If you look at the ABC segment, you saw it in her closet. There's an IG pic of it as well during dress rehearsal. For her voice, fans like myself are not delusional. We did't say her voice is like the 90s. No one really sounds exactly the same since they started, especially for Mariah who sings very hard and technical. We have acknowledged that she can still sing. Not a 100% but at least 70% and 80-90% on good days. She's been touring for most of her albums so she's on the road. Unlike other artists, they haven't sang for a while or gone on tour so don't even compare them to Mariah. In addition, the NY Times review was kind of bullying and mean. The Guardian review was fair and gave constructed criticism. Now that's the difference. In addition, most of the critics have not really followed her tours. I think. I think she's damaged her voice a bit after the Charmbracelet tour. It was very extensive and she sang hard. She hasn't been singing that way since TEOM tour. She sings all her old songs sound a bit huskier and lower. The only best version of VOL since 90s is her performance of it on BET in 2005. In the end, most reviews are fair and positive except for one so far. Overall, she can still sing. Also, it's so much different being in-person at the theatre than watching clips on IG and YouTube. It's true.
