I always want Mariah to be confident on stage, and it sometimes baffles me how nervous and insecure she can be, even in the days she could sing her heart out. What I feel strange is Mariah the last years have been so happy and smily on stage, seems pleased when she has finished a song and the audience applaudes. But is it really that fun to actually feel that you can't hit notes you used to, know that what the audience hear is not what is coming out of your mouth? Maybe I'm missing something? (102,697) by Tevin from USA I say these comments out of love. I agree with you Randy. I know Mariah loves to sing because it's literally her life and passion. I never would ask nor want her to retire. Even if she only produces songs in a low register with no belts, I wouldn't have a problem with that because I love her artistry. But with everything you mentioned in your post about all the smoke and mirror tricks that Mariah does, I can't help but wonder, doesn't that have to be torture for her. I mean I can't imagine standing on stage having to do all these tricks to prove your voice is still there, while worrying that something can, may and probably will go wrong in front of hundreds of not thousands of people. Maybe I'm missing something? (102,683) by Randy from USA So I watched the concert and to be honest, this is how MC has sounded since Caution. No better no worse. The strained sustained notes to prove she can sing. The cutting up of long notes and adding stacatto "hey hey". The moments of clarity that we all know are backing tracks. Background singers singing verses that don't have backgrounds on verses on the original. The fidgeting with the ear monitor. The tossing the hair from side to side when she lips a note in case she miscounted how long to keep her mouth open. All of this is normal. So to come here and see you guys say it's a new low or it's bad baffles me. Some of you are acting like the house just caught fire. It burned down a long time ago. (Monday 8 May 2023; 12:39)

On the innanet (webmaster please leave that spelling for dramatic effect) people have wrongfully given MC a songwriting credit, but I checked my Glitter CD and you are right. Rick James wrote All My Life. Then, me being the nerd I am, looked to see if it is a cover from one of his album cuts or something. It's not. There is a rumor that it's an old song he wrote for the Mary Jane girls but that can't be substantiated. So here's where we unreal fans stand. There are two songs in the Mariah Carey catalogue that she has recorded that are not remakes that she did not have a hand in writing. When You Believe and All My Life. (Saturday 6 May 2023; 12:27)

From what I can hear at least, she is better than Global Cityzen, but still throaty and raspy, and still using the backing tracks we have become custom to. But she seems a bit more confident and happy. If the concert was from last year, then just forget this message. Then we just have to wait for Mariah's next gig which is not that far away. Europeans think this is a bit strange, and sometimes think that when somebody says they are from Venezuelan or Irish decent, we think it's their parents. But more often than not, it's their grandparents or even further back in the family line, sometimes back to the founding fathers. The people from Europe almost never say we have different decent if it's not our parents, further back than that, or more than what is considered to be first grade immigrants, we might talk about it as more of a cultural heritage, but rarely put too much in the sence it's because our roots are from a different country. Music Box (102,505) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway Everything Fades Away was the last track on the European version of Music Box, and is my favourite track from the album. I first became a fan after My All and my first CD by Mariah was Butterfly. But after that I bought Daydream and a friend of me gave me her Music Box CD, for a long time Everything Fades Away was my favourite song to listen to, every night I had my headphones on and fell asleep listening to that song. What I think makes Music Box such a good album, is that it's the sound many people call the classic Mariah. When I listen to songs from Music Box, it makes me nostalgic, even though I didn't listen to it when it first came out. There are a few songs that bring me back to certain moments in life, and certain eras of time. The sound of Music Box makes you nostalgic about Mariah, her image and voice, but also to the 90s and maybe a time that now seems innocent and maybe less troublesome as compared to today's world. Music Box is also what made Mariah an international act, brought her to super stardom, and the songs from that album is what non fan people remember the most. Yes, it would have been really nice to get a Music Box'esque album, but to capture the era, moment and the phenomenon that was Music Box, will be hard to do. Music Box (102,502) by Randy from USA I usually agree wit you Edward but to call MIAMTEC depressing is kinda funny. The second half of Music Box is slit your wrist fantastic. Never Forget You, Without You, Just To Hold You Once Again, All I Ever Wanted and if Sony had the balls to add Everything Fades Away it's the saddest thing since Terms of Endearment. All MC albums are sad to me. That's why I connect. I think MIAMTEC is her worst album but not because it's depressing. It's incoherent and her vocals sound like they were produced by AI. Observation (102,455) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway Oh, please, this is just absurd. Like one of my ex'es said about Oprah Winfrey, don't believe too much in your own shit. This comparison is absurd and not valid. To become an athlete successful until their late thirties commits endless practice and everything in between. Mariah is an artist in music, what she wants to put in it and what she she wants to sacrifice is completely on her own terms. Mariah has got lazy, and will only bring to the table what is least expected by her. I think this is a natural thing of hers, her rebellion self, not wanting to push herself to the extreme to make people, and her Tommy Mottala ex, to love her. Mariah has made it her absolute most important point to make, that she just doesn't care, she wants to do her thing, and nothing else. If we, as her fans, would have directed her career, it would have been very different, still making Mariah sing songs in the key of "Music Box" and "Daydream". Yes, I would have loved it. But as a person who also have been "directed" by people outside, the most important and validating thing is to finally experiance that you are your own queen/king. You have brought the soundtrack to my life, the most important artist that I can think of. Nothing can change anyting, you are the love of my music life, I love you Mariah. Observation (102,453) by Edward from USA Because athletes actually jump, dunk, fall, run, perform triple axels etc during their entire career and don't have the luxury of lipping any of their performances. They retire in their late thirties because it's well documented that their bodies are worn out by that age and could actually get hurt if they keep doing it. Michelle Kwan, one of the most loved and awarded figure ice skaters, retired at 26, most in that sport are done by 30. Singers are different. While they're not expected to sing perfectly, they can sing decently into their late seventies. The difference is that athletes can't sit their asses down and expect to win a game, they all have to practice and put in the work before every game during their entire careers. Some singers take good really care of their instruments and some just don't seem to care. You can't lip a triple Axel or a slam dunk even on a promotional presentation. (Monday 3 April 2023; 14:38)

Observation (102,444) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway I think we all are fans of her, and what makes a fan or not is not you to decide. I mostly write positive things about Mariah on this board, many of my posts are pure appreciation posts. Sometimes I am critical, and I think it's a good thing we all can be critical. When I talk to other people who are fans of other artists and they can't say even one negative thing about the artist, that is to be delusional. I think it's healthy to have a balanced view of one's favourite artist. In my teens I was a delusional fan of Mariah, praising everything, defending her so much people thought I was crazy. None of my friends are a fan of Mariah, but I think they feel it's ok to listen to her because I have a balanced view, and show reflection about her as an artist, acknowledging her more negative qualities as well. And for her anniversary, I posted an old video that Billboard posted a few years ago on Mariah's birthday, so I did my job, one friend liked the video. Observation (102,419) by Lady B from USA Many people on this board who post negative things about Mariah like to hid behind they "care" and are "fans", but are being "honest" and sometimes that means tough love. I'm on record as saying I think that's largely malarky, and they snidely deride me when I say that, But for a "fan board" very few folks wished her Happy Anniversary, and none of the regular critics. Indeed, plenty of posts before and after, but very few on the day of. Compare that to other fan boards of other artists, which have a higher percentage of posters who are actual, well fans. Smoking of any kind is well known for having extremely adverse effects on the vocal cords, lungs, and throat and can lead to long-term throat and lung injury. Shortness of breath, constant dehydration, loss of vocal range, and even irreversible damage are all other negative by-products of smoking. (Saturday 11 March 2023; 07:04)

Ain't No Other Fan (102,332) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway I have just watched the YouTube video made by Ain't No Other Fan, the video name is long, but here it comes: "The one where Mariah Carey got *high* and proved her voice." It's from her Jamaican concert a few years back, and yes, we all know she was influenced by something, and it was not Chardonnay, darlin'. The performance is a mess, but hell, Mariah was so at ease that evening that she hit high notes and had runs she hadn't done in years and haven't done since. I can admit that I have taken the same substance as Mariah that evening sometimes, aan it really eases you off, makes you feel comfortable, down to earth, high in confidence and really good about yourself. I have watched the video, and all I can say is, if that is what make our girl Mariah relax and hit those high notes and runs, we know she can make, well hell, she should really hit them joints every show, relax, and show them girls and boys how you really sing. As Mariah, I also have bipolar decease, and I can assure you all, Mariah's fluctuation in weight is all because of the medication. Sometimes you need less medication, then the weight goes off, sometimes you need more medication, and the kilograms just comes piling on. You can't control it, because your appetite is just getting larger, it's a roller coaster you can't get off. Anyways, I have a masters degree in psychology, wanted a phd, but my struggles with bipolar decease hindered that, I had to take a break. All through my life Mariah's live performance of "Make It Happen" from Madison Square Garden made me want to push forward, it is by far the most important song in my life, and it is performed by the most important artist in my life, Mariah Carey. Three years ago, I had to start over, move back to my home town, make new friends, new connections, and attended a school for people who are not ready for more education or to start working. I have attended that school for almost three years now, and today was my last day. Tomorrow I will start as a therapist for people with mental disorders and drug abuse. Mariah, besides my mom and friends, has been very important to me in this process, and lately, another song, a live performance, has become the soundtrack to my life, my days, in the struggles and happiness I have experienced the last few weeks. This live performance has been on and off YouTube, it is "Can't Take That Away" from VH1 Divas Live 2000. I have the whole concert on VHS, but I don't have a VHS-player anymore. The concert, over 20 years old, on a VHS cassette, lies there as a treasure. Mariah has a few power performances, and this performance shows her emotion, craftmanship, excellence. Even though her voice was not at her peak, she outsings most of the music world. That song has become my new "Make It Happen", though I listen to both songs almost daily. Ok, take a listen, it's Mariah at her best, she's absolutely beautiful, I could listen to this on repeat all day, enjoy. PS: When the choir sings "there's" and "a light", at the last chorus, my tears come out, why didn't Mariah include that on the studio version, absolutly beautiful. (Monday 6 March 2023; 21:36)

Mariah's voice (89,704) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway Maybe I'm speculating too much now, but maybe Mariah hasn't got the chance to rehearse that much while her children were very young. It is after she became a mother that her voice has declined a lot. Her children seem very close to her, there is no doubt she spends a lot of time with them. So now that they are a bit older, and they don't need that much supervision, maybe Mariah has gotten the chance to rehearse. Just a thought. (Friday 24 May 2019; 15:49)

Mariah in the new era (89,703) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway I'm so exited to see Mariah get the recognition from the music industry these days. People I know who love Madonna, Celine, Cher, Prince, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, have always said Mariah would never get the recognition the other superstars have gotten, simply because Mariah is not as great as them. Of course I have been there to challenge teir views, but they have all thought about Mariah as somewhat a joke. Nowadays, the music industry has started to treat Mariah as a great among greats, it's so nice for a lamb to get to see this, and I'm so glad they are showing Mariah respect before she's no longer with us. Let's make this a lesson to all of us. If you have person in your life you haven't told that you love them in while, do that. I am for sure going to tell people I appreciate that I love them more often. Mariah inspires me everyday, listening to Make it Happen while I'm writing this. (Friday 24 May 2019; 15:43)

Re: Mariah's voice and breath control (83,982) (83,992) by Joachim Agerup Løkkevik from Norway Randy, that is the most honest message I have read on this board, thank you. I used to read and post messages here all the time, but the last few years I haven't, fun to be back. I also believe something happened between Daydream tour and Butterfly. A doctor friend of mine, who is also a fan of Mariah, firmly believes her voice got damaged because of the hose you have to have down your throat under the operation when you get breast implants. I remember he told me this 15 years ago, and I don't know what to believe. But if that's the case, I think it's the saddest way of damaging your voice, because of vanity. I think the voice now is at its worst that it has ever been. I still enjoy watching her performances, because I love her. But I always hope that there will be some improvement of some sort, but it never happens. Since she can't do wonders with her voice anymore, I wish she could at least have some more energy on stage. I saw her in concert when she visited Oslo during SSFT, it was amazing, and that is what I have decided to remember. I wish her all the best for this next era, and I hope she will keep on doing live stuff like iHeart, because no matter what, it's always fun to see a new performance. (Monday 24 September 2018; 23:43)
