Fans don't equal album sales (75,441)
by Jeff from USA

I'm curious for the board's opinion. I know a lot of people who say they are fans of MC, some even say they are lambs, but these people haven't bought a Mariah album since TEOM. MC has millions of followers and can command $3 million for performances, so where are the sales? Just curious about the disconnect. Anyone have any ideas?

Dem parents (74,840)

I have to honestly say that regardless of any other feelings about Nick and MC, they really seem to do a great job co-parenting. Divorce is incredibly painful and can bring out the worst in people. It is so nice to see that dem parents have put ego and hurt aside. Bravo.

So true, Andrew, so true. I know my heart will be broken, but I passionately await another Butterfly and the recognition of her peers and the general public.

Most challenging song live (no lip) (74,288)
by Jeff from USA
| |
|
|
Just curious. What do you guys think is MC's most vocally challenging song that she still sings fully live (with no lipsynch)? I know My All is challenging, but she lips certain parts almost every time. I'm just wondering what song she showcases her vocals on.

Brat-Tat-Tat (74,047)
by Jeff from USA

Does anyone know what Da Brat is up to these days? Are she and Mariah still close? She always seemed to be a true friend to Mariah, always defending her in the media and staying above the drama. I believe the last time she worked with MC was on "OOC". Is that right?

Todd: Wasted songs (73,731)
by Jeff from USA

I fully agree with you on Cry. It could have been the match that lit the fire under the album. Mariah at her most vulnerable. It could have matched Adele's amazing Hello. Almost every album since Butterfly has left me baffled by the single choices.

Hoodriah and the strength of lyrics (73,361)
by Jeff from USA
| |
|
|
I realize there is often a steep and bitter division between the followers of "Flowing Gown Ballad MC" and "Hoodriah". I happen to love both personally. Hoodriah is where we see her most happy personally, but we also love her in a beautiful gown showing off her vocal range in pop performances. I get upset at times because people assume Hoodriah isn't deep or is a waste of her writing skills. In fact, I was sixteen when the Butterfly album was released. All of my anguish and pain poured out to hours upon hours of Breakdown on repeat. Later, Side Effects helped me through a year of bitter depression and suicidal thoughts after I was betrayed by those closest to me. So, just saying... Hoodriah got me through some tough calls, y'all. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Hello. I've been a member for several years. I really appreciate all that you do to keep the site up and running. I've noticed that in the same way that Mariah has "eras", the board seems to have them as well. Sometimes there is universal excitement, other times there are personal stories, favorites lists, and more. We also go through times that are very negative, with infighting among the members. I'm curious as to what "eras" on the message board are the most fun and engaging for you. How do you see the year progressing? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

The deterioration of MiMi (70,907)
by Jeff from USA
| |
|
|
As painful as this article is to read, it is 100% spot on. I am reminded of when Whitney Houston made a promise to Clive Davis that she would "get her voice back" after years of abuse. Unfortunately, she never got the chance to do so. I pray that MC can. She has way too much talent and skill to just fade into mediocrity. We're with you, MiMi.

2017 - shatter the status suo (67,499)
by Jeff from USA
| |

This is what I would love to see: 1. Ride the Christmas wave into the new year. The queen of Christmas will own the Beacon performances and AIWFCIY will go number one again. 2. Drop the shade. There is a beauty in humility that Mariah has deep inside. Let that shine through during interviews. 3. Sing the song. We will still love you if you need to drop to a lower key. If you can't hit the whistle note, don't. I would 100% rather hear the voice than to see the lip-synch. 4. Show love to the fans. Honey B. Fly, anyone? 5. Let's have a stone-groove smash hit. I would love a booming bass line and that mid-register. How about a ton of remixes? 6. Enjoy your time with Dem Babies. They are adorable.

Marian's most underrated song (66,628)

Your own private concert (66,576)
by Jeff from USA

Let's say you won the opportunity of a lifetime to have MC perform 5 songs for you and only you. You can pick the songs. This is your chance to show MC what her music has done for you personally. It is an expression of your personal fandom and a commentary on what you hope for in the future. Which 5 do you choose? These are mine: 1. Close My Eyes - For the rawness. 2. Breakdown - Because it got me through heartache. 3. Fantasy - This is how I was introduced to MC. 4. We Belong Together - Because I knew she had it in her to top the charts again. 5. Cry - It should have been a #1 and we all know it.

Re: Forget the image (66,483)
by Jeff from USA

At the end of the day, Mariah loves to make R&B, and she is damn good at it. Expert even. So, the question for this particular reply is whether her favorite style of music has an audience in today's musical scene. I think the answer is yes, but it requires effort. VOL was absolutely nothing like what else was playing in that time. MC invented the singer/rapper colab when no one else was doing it. And she came out with the Song of the Century when the media said she was through. Market her well and the woman will sell.

Inspirational songs (66,481)
by Jeff from USA

This may be strange, but I find my inspiration in some of Marian's saddest songs, particularly Close My Eyes, Looking In, and Breakdown. Life can be difficult, and I appreciate an artist that can reveal their pain. It gives me hope that the sun will shine another day.
