About Edward from USA:

I Only Wanted (60,191) by Edward from USA
I just finished listening to "Charmbracelet" and I got a little happy and sad at the same time. I'd give my all for Mariah to write lyrics as profound as the ones below:
"I was caught in your masquerade
Wish I'd stayed beneath my veil
But it just seemed so easy to
Open up myself to you
Once more into the wind
The embers scatter
And the chill settles in"
I miss you Mariah. I hope your muse is riding on steroids for your next album.

All isn't gold that glitters (60,180) by Edward from USA
Why does everything have to be some sort of conspiracy? It is borderline ridiculous and paranoid. Jennifer worked first with Benny, then Mariah worked with Benny, yet I don't remember anybody saying that Mariah stole him from Jennifer or that Jennifer shouldn't work with him again because he was working with Mariah. If you read the chapter about Mariah in Damizza's book (she authorized it, just in case), you would realize how wicked and paranoid Tommy was at that point in time. He orchestrated Jennifer's career, he had access to whatever Mariah was working on, he most likely is guilty of everything that went on during that time and Jennifer as a new artist got caught up in the mess. Jennifer's image was basically a vivid copy of Mariah's at the beginning, but later on she got her own style that has nothing to do with Mariah's. Mariah and Jennifer are gorgeous women. Jennifer signed with Epic, so what? It doesn't mean anything other than business. Epic doesn't belong to any particular artist. Neither Mariah nor Jennifer is or will be the main artist of that label. They are past their prime. They could definitely have future successful albums, but that would be it. Meghan Trainor is the main artist of that label, they'll invest more resources in her because she would be bringing more revenue, it is pure business. When Mariah was hot back in the day, many artists were dropped to put muscle behind her career because it was promising and was bringing the money, it was business. Labels are not investing millions on videos anymore. There's an Oscar winner documentary that was partially filmed with a cellphone, for heaven sake. It is about the concept, the story and the direction. Mariah just needs to put some good non-rushed quality music out there, and we should know this is not the 90's, and that Mariah might sell, but not as before. It will happen to Adele, Rihanna, Meghan, it is life. Nobody stays on top forever. Maybe when some of these current artists are in their 40's, Mariah's daughter will be the one taking over. Nothing stays the same, things keep moving. Mariah and Jennifer are in different places than when they were hot back in the day, they are mothers now. LA Read was instrumental in the success of The Emancipation Of Mimi, but now he's just a goat in the eyes of some just for making a comment that in my opinion took some pressure off Mariah's back to keep producing #1's. I'm not criticizing or telling people what to post or not, but I can't wait for the conversation to be about the music. Just in case, Mariah's areolas must be kept out of the conversation.

The Hating Game (59,982) by Edward from USA
At this point if it's not Rihanna, who's always unshadingly praised Mariah, it will be Katy or Taylor. Of course I'm not happy her record is just five #1's away to be broken, but I don't feel any hatred towards Rihanna, nor will I put her down to put Mariah in a pedestal either. She's just hustling like everybody else. Remember many wanted our girl to fail when she was snatching wigs and causing irreversible baldness during the 90's when she was breaking records left and right. The faster we let go of the idea that Mariah is at the same level of popularity as the ones mentioned above, the happier and accepting we will be. I'm not a fan of Rihanna's nor do I think she's at Mariah's caliber, but she's definitely producing catchy music and videos people obviously like, let me make clear I never said she was producing quality music. Let's not count Rihanna out just like they did with our Mariah. We all saw this coming, but we were in denial. It actually took more time than expected, since Rihanna would've released three albums by now but instead she decided to go on a well-deserved vacation. I'm happy Mariah came out when concept albums were still around. Thanks to that we can sit here 20 years later and give a whole listen to Daydream or Butterfly without skipping any tracks. Mariah has an artistic body of work, but most current singers just have forgettable singles of the moment instead. I do listen to some Rihanna's songs at the gym, but that's it. Will I ever sit down to listen to any of her albums from beginning to end like I do any of Mariah's or Alanis'? I doubt it. One million downloads of Rihanna's album Anti were bought and gifted to fans by Samsung, but those downloads didn't count towards her position on Billboard Hot 200 albums, so she didn't cheat charts. If Mariah really wants to maintain a certain level of popularity as she once said, she's going have to up her game with decent concept videos and songs or it would be a big wrap for her. I stopped stressing about Mariah's voice, #1's, OSD 16 weeks record, and I think I appreciate her more for what she really is, a damn good singer, lyricist, and producer. Rihanna could have 30 #1's, but I'm pretty sure she won't ever have anything close to Daydream or Butterfly. #1's don't necessarily define artistry, especially nowadays.

Time to migrate (58,904) by Edward from USA
While being interviewed by Perez Hilton, one of her biggest critics back then, and in response to negative allegations he had made about that Migrate would follow Touch My Body as the second single, Mariah stated that Migrate wouldn't be the second single, that she knew what she was doing. That she had been doing it for a long time. Mariah and her team had decided to stick with the formula of an uptempo and then a ballad, I don't think it was a decision that was pushed onto her, and she hasn't ever stated so. She definitely wanted Migrate to be a single, but not the second single. With E=MC2, Mariah was riding high on the success of The Emancipation Of Mimi, and she had the full support of her label, but bad single choices and the abandonment of the project by Mariah for whatever reason, they let die what could've been an album with four of five #1 hits. I think they went with "Bye Bye" as the second single because some of the critics who had heard the album at various listening parties stated that if nothing else could be a hit, "Bye Bye" would be a sure hit. I don't think there's anybody to blame in particular, but all of them, including Mariah. [Webmaster: See Carey hits back at internet criticism.]

AIWFCIY #11 on Billboard Hot (58,741) by Edward from USA
Mariah Carey and her team have been paying attention, and it is showing. 2015 was mostly positive for her, and I'm very happy about that. This new position on Billboard Hot 100 is not mere casualty, it is the definitely result of all the work they've put in rebuilding her image. One thing I do admire about Mariah is the fact that, instead of dressing dem babies are if they were circus puddles, she dresses them as any other mother would dress their kids, not as if they were small versions of their parents, something that is very relateable. Her Christmas shows were successful, she is more confident on stage, her voice has improved. When she lip-syncs those difficult parts, she's doing it very convincingly without turning or covering her face. She's doing her homework. Mariah once said that after a tour her voice is in great shape. She's making sure her voice is in good condition for her to complete whatever project she's working on, hopefully an album.

Travon Austin, Bill (58,384) by Edward from USA
Travon Austin, nobody would ever think you are in love with me, everybody here knows you would never cheat on Mariah. Thank you for you words, I really appreciate your comment. I had gone to the concert and I was just waiting to write my experience objectively. I was being true to what I experienced. I think Mariah is up to something, musically that is. I kind of have the impression we'll have new music soon. Bill, I'm glad you liked my post. When the woman is putting an effort and delivering consistent performances, it should also be said. I'm glad this year has being very positive for her, she seems to be in a wonderful place.

Deedre, that's life (58,383) by Edward from USA
Thank you for your words. I really appreciate the good vibe I get from you and your posts. You said something that resonated with me as if you knew me, and it was about being compassionate. I even got a little teary-eyed and I'm not a crybaby. It is just that through this double-edged sword called Internet we sometimes become so detached and cold that we forget that entertainers are just human beings like the rest of us, with the same imperfections and insecurities. Insecurities and imperfections that we sometimes think money and fame could change in us, but we could see how people with money and fame go through depression and even end their lives. I guess that through her early work Mariah connected with all of us because she was that person going through the same issues we were all going through, whether it was depression, family dysfunction, heartache, bigotry, jealousy, betray, etc., with the only difference that she had the voice and lyrics that could reach the masses and we found comfort in that. Name a bad situation, and I can name you a song from Mariah that could be applied to that. I can say that I feel happy I could catch Mariah on one of those great moments in her life. I think I needed to see her without that worried look in her eyes while performing. It seems that Packer bring some sense of stability to her life. I'm not here dissing Nick, I'm just saying that Mariah looks more than happy, she looks serene and secured in herself. Thanks again.

Dear May (58,380) by Edward from USA
It is always nice reading your posts. I also agree with you as to why on earth Mariah can't usually pull this off life for the world to see. The Christmas show was worth every penny my friend paid for.

Marissa, don't waste your time (58,377) by Edward from USA
Marissa, I don't know why she keeps coming for you or Mimi L. when she keeps getting her behind kicked with simple words. In 16 years being a member of this board, never have I seen so much arrogance and delusion. She actually thinks she's lamb royalty. I'm the type of person who usually gets along well with everybody even when they might have different opinions from mine, I love variety, but this person really gives me a bad vibe. It is as if I could see her dark aura through her bullying messages. Even when they are supposedly positive she's always throwing shades or stirring the pot. I have said it before, I can't stand bullies, know-it-alls and those who always blame everything that happens to Mariah on Benny, Tony or any other conspiracy theory. If Mariah is to be responsible for the good things in her life, like giving an excellent Christmas show, she should be also responsible for many of the bad things that happen to her too, not all. But when you are like a horse with blinkers looking only in one direction, there won't ever be a way for you to see things differently or even consider that things might not be the way you see it. I hope I don't offend anybody with these words, but sometimes I don't even think she's a really woman. There's nothing womanly about this creature, even when she talks about lipsticks, ponytails and makeup.

The "Beacon" of light at the end of the "Theater" (58,370) by Edward from USA
As an early Christmas gift I was presented with two tickets to go see Mariah Carey on December 9. I had commented to my friend T.J. from Norway, a long-time poster here, that I was happy but that I wasn't excited. I had been reluctant to see any of the clips from the night before because I wanted to experience the show for what it was supposed to be. It was my third time seeing Mariah on this venue, the first time was when she taped the VH1 Save The Music special and sung with with John Legend, and the second one was last year. I have to say that I was speechless this third time. I wasn't looking into spoiling my night looking for imperfections or trying to spot lipsyncing moments, but I was paying close attention though. I was thinking: If you're going to do any lipping, at least I hope you do it right, a thing I had criticized her for in the past. I was on the fourth row, and there was the queen. I have to say that if she lipsynced anything on the show, she did a [censored] great job. There weren't any spinning moments, head-turnings, arm covering her face or broken ear-pieces. Mariah was on fire. Never had I seen her so comfortable on stage after the 90's were gone. Those airy whistles of the past few years were instead crisp and sharp as if Mariah from 1990 had traveled in time for that show. I was speechless. I hadn't experienced such a rush with Mariah in a long time. Last year's show was ok to me, but this year she literally came to slay, as if I was looking a different person in terms of voice quality and confidence. Yes, when she couldn't hit certain notes here and there she resorted to her whispery voice, but that was very rare during the show. She wasn't pitchy or running out of air, she was actually singing. She went for notes I hadn't seen her go for in many years. And she she went for them, you could see she knew she got it like when she first sung "Vision of Love" at the Apollo back in 1990. She seems to be taking care of her voice, and that must've boosted her confidence too. I didn't care that she just stood there, what I cared about was that Mariah was there to do what she's known for, not write, dance or being a diva, but for singing her heart out, and she did an excellent job. Watching clips on the Internet and being there up close and personal are two different experiences. Mariah looked neither skinny nor fat, she looked solid and tone. I was so close, it was surreal to me. And even though I don't care much about those things, I have to agree with Mimi L., her hair, makeup and ensembles were fabulous that night.

May, how ignorant can one be? (57,811) by Edward from USA
May, I'm also Latino and completely agree with everything in your post about it. While nobody paid much attention to "I Wanna Know What Love Is", Brazil kept it at the #1 position for 6 months. I just can't quite wrap my mind around the ability that some people have to spew stupidity through their ignorant mouths. It never occurred to Ms. "Know-It-All" that Brazilians were Latinos too, and that that ¿Hablo Español? comment was very out of place. Then she has the guts to criticize Latinos for getting Mariah wrong, how ironic. It is like I want to puke every time I forget and realize I just read a couple of lines of any of her posts. She assumes that there are many Latinos here on the board, but that they don't post much. Like we Latinos need to have a specific name or label to be recognized as such, pure stupidity and ignorance. I guess next thing she'll file a petition to get Mariah's Latina Certificate revoked.

Adele's Hello and the 3-minute something songs (57,599) by Edward from USA
Just heard Adele's "Hello" for the first time and I must admit I liked it. It is a 6-minute song, but I rather have a long song telling a good story, than a 3-minute something song for the sake of the charts. I love when Mariah takes her time to develop an idea in a song regardless of its time length, like "Through The Rain", "Outside", "The Beautiful Ones". There are songs Mariah has released as singles that left me wishing for something that was missing, like "#Beautiful", or when she cut short "I Wanna Know What Love Is". Mariah did an excellent job vocally on "I Wanna Know What Love Is", but by leaving out a full verse, it didn't quite live up to my expectation, and many critics stated Mariah had gone full karaoke on us. "One More Try" is a masterpiece. George Michael murdered that song so well so nobody could revive in the future. When it was confirmed Mariah would cover it, I couldn't believe it. I first was praying she didn't turn it into a 3-minute something song, but I was also hoping she would murder it even deeper than George Michael originally did, but unlike her rendition of "The Beautiful Ones", she did played it very safe and it even sounded autotuned at times. I don't understand why she even touched it. To my understanding, it is the worse cover she's ever recorded so far. I really wish for the perfectionist Mariah used to be. I hope she thinks twice before releasing songs like "Infinity" and its respective remix, because those type of mediocre songs are stains on her stellar discography. Now that her divorce is over, and that she seems to be in a happy place, I hope she finds her muse once again. She only have herself to blame for getting us used to such quality music.

Re: Ariana Grande (57,461) (57,463) by Edward from USA
M, Arianna acknowledged Mariah as her main influence when she first came out. Ariana said that Mariah had a bigger range than hers, and that she felt flattered when she was compared to her. When she was asked about surpassing Mariah's 18 #1's, she stated that it would be a ridiculous goal. But after a while it's boring when everybody is comparing you to somebody else, especially when that person you've been compared to doesn't even acknowledge you. I haven't ever heard Mariah utter Ariana's name, not once. The problem: Ariana was created in Mariah's image, it was an obvious copycat. It went from being influenced by Mariah to imitating Mariah, and I think Mariah resented that. I don't necessarily blame Ariana for that, I blame her team. She's obviously trying to find her own voice now, and it seems to be working. She and her team have come to realize that those who have tried to replicate Mariah have failed miserably; Mariah is often imitated, but never duplicated. Ariana and her team have decided to put Mariah as an off-topic item on all her interviews, that's why you won't hear Mariah being brought up on Ariana's interviews.

I'll Be There (Thanksgiving special) video and mp3 (57,455) by Edward from USA
I'm also in the US and I couldn't access the video. So it was a challenge for me, and I was able to extract an mp3 and video. Since the video or mp3 of this particular performance is not for sale, I don't think it would constitute piracy sharing it with you guys in here. They are in my dropbox folder, so you can either watch and listen or download them. Enjoy.

May, Mariah was sure almost home (57,375) by Edward from USA
May, I completely agree with you. Almost Home restored my faith in Mariah putting together a great pop song. Her vocals, the music, the arrangement were all great. So sad the song got lost in the noise of "bad movie reviews" and her feud with Nicki Minaj. When I first heard the song, I was so happy. Finally a song that reminded her 90's days. I like R&B, but I think she should different genres even if it is a song or two. At the end of the day, variety is what has kept her career alive.

Mariah is bad influence (57,374) by Edward from USA
I went to visit my sister a couple of days ago, and I heard my little niece singing to her Kent doll: "Honey, you can have me when you want me." Am I being over-dramatic or is Mariah a bad influence? My niece is 5, I hope she makes it to at least 15 before she utters those words again. She sounded pretty serious though. I told my sister not to worry, that she needed to worry if she ever heard her sing "Everytime I close my eyes, I envision you, caressing me."

Is it the right time? (57,372) by Edward from USA
A magic and "out of this world" collaboration needs to happen, just like that commercial about people waiting for settlement money, but they can't wait and they "want it now", I, just like them, want this now, lol. I really think it is the right time for a magic collaboration to happen. A "once in a lifetime" collaboration which would bring the main focus on, not only Mariah, but also on that other special artist who would collaborate with her. Any collaboration with a male singer wouldn't bring much attention to Mariah now, she's been collaborating with male singer, rappers for the longest. I'm talking about one of the last of the two remaining true divas, Mariah being the first one of course. I'm talking about Celine Dion. Mariah and Celine need to sing a very well written song where they could showcase their voices. As much as I love "When You Believe", some people were expecting more vocally, especially from Mariah. Their careers shouldn't go into the dark without this collaboration, while people still care of course. Mariah needs to get as much of her "Honey" weaves on, and her honey tea of course, and Celine should clean her nasal passages, put Rene to sleep, and go for it. It think it would be epic.

Luis Miguel and After Tonight (57,359) by Edward from USA
Luis Miguel is an exceptional singer. He's been singing since he was 11 years old. Pairing him with Mariah wouldn't have been like it was pairing Whitney Houston with Enrique Iglesias, the man can sing, he's sold 100 million records, a great feat for a non-English singer. Marc Anthony is another power vocalist, I always wished for Mariah to duet with him, he ate Jessica Simpsom alive on "There You Were", such a powerful voice without straining. The fact that some voices don't blend well together or that one of the parties doesn't like the final outcome, doesn't necessarily mean either one is better than the other. Mariah stated that Luis Miguel didn't like the outcome, and that he ripped the tape apart, and that she didn't have time to go back and do other takes because as we already know "Rainbow" was a "get me out of this label" album. I've always loved Luis Miguel's music as an adult, I don't like him as a person though, but credit where credit is due.

Re: The silent lambs are rhapsodizing (57,049) (57,125) by Edward from USA
Norman, nice to see you posting too. I like when the messageboard is full of different points of views. It's what has made it so interesting for 16 years now. I don't think anybody is a troll here, or just posting for the sake of hating on Mariah. I just do believe that we are different people with different opinions, and we don't want to be chastised or vituperated for expressing them following the main rules of the board. I can't stand bullies or people who are always looking for something to start feuds, or looking to the fifth leg on a four-legged table, in order to start fights of course. I know we are all guilty of reading too much into something sometimes.

The silent lambs are rhapsodizing (57,049) by Edward from USA
Just when everybody was happy and positive about an album that 99% of the lambs and casual fans consider a masterpiece, somebody had to try stirring the pot. The only thing though is that when you try to stir the pot, you might end up with "splashes" burning yourself.

To Deedre, the 2015 version (57,003) by Edward from USA
Deedre, you cracked me up with your line "I just feel like a constantly evolving version of me". You should definitely get in touch with Mariah's team. I would take your line over her "eternally 12" line anytime. Shit, I'm using it myself. I hope you didn't copyright it.

Stacey, B: a toast to the daydreamers (57,002) by Edward from USA
Daydream to me is her magnum opus. It is the perfect blend of Pop and R&B. Mariah was young but she was deep with most of her lyrics. The nuances of her voice were beautiful and her delivery was effortless. If you asked me how many times I have listened to "Melt Away", I would tell you a "a million times". I was addicted to Daydream. My mom died back in January 1995 unexpectedly, I isolated myself from everyone, the only thing I had was a "Daydream" cassette that broke with so many plays, rewinding and flip-overs. Her voice, her passion, her delivery, her lyrics, all resonated with me and helped come out of the worst moment I've ever experienced in my life. "Daydream" and "Butterfly" are two masterpieces; they should be in the list of "Albums you must listen to before you die". I have come to terms with the current state of Mariah's voice, but I'm always hoping for the same passion in her lyrics and production. I know what she's capable of, she's shown us time and time again. A toast to "Daydream", Mariah and those who love the album.

B, Andrew (56,994) by Edward from USA
Hi B, I've been fine. I hope you're doing great. I still read most posts here on a regular basis. I'm actually looking forward to some new quality music from Mariah, and of course the Christmas shows and movie. Andrew, your post about "Petals" was great, I loved it. I also feel the song is very underrated. That was Mariah lyrically at her finest. I miss those types of lyrics from her. I can only compare it to "Butterfly", my favorite song from her catalog.
