Did you notice that Columbia/Legacy didn't release a CD version like they did Music Box in 2023? To me it says a lot how the AR executives feel about Rainbow compared to Music Box. I would love to have a CD version.

So, I've been obsessed with my Rainbow 25 vinyl I got from my parents for Christmas. After endless listens, I understand why I've found it such a difficult album to vibe to.
Bliss is one of the best, most fitting, and gorgeous songs MC has ever created. It just fits her and no one else. Then suddenly, without warning, I'm b*tch slapped with that early-oughts Destiny's Child/P!nk beat. I was up in the clouds, floating... suddenly I'm getting hit with a guitar string pick, and a jarring beat. The instrumentation over took a Mariah/Usher collaboration.
That shouldn't have happened. Usher and Mariah both deserved more from their collaboration.

Robert Anthony you are the voice of unwavering optimism on this board and I'm sorry you can't just abandon your role like a Mariah cookie. Yes her business side seems to be pretty ambiguous but we are barely a week into January. She has plenty of time to get her shit together and give us MC16 this fall.
I don't think she's hanging out with Anderson [.Paak] just for us to discuss their chemistry. They are cooking something. Her not having a contract/label is probably the reason we are not hearing much about MC16. She has repeatedly said it is coming. I believe once things fall into place she will be motivated enough to finish it off.

I don't think I Don't is MC's worst video as you are eluding to it being. Imagine 13 videos of I Stay In Love directed by Nick. I hate that video. I have only seen Daisy Duke travels to Las Vegas, but her car breaks down in the desert one time. Lol. I was not impressed with that video treatment. What were MC and Nick thinking?

Are you sure you're not secretly related to Celine Dion?
I agree, Mariah couldn't have pulled off something like that. Imagine 13 "I Don't" type of videos and then, for the grand finale, a half-naked mermaid moment. That would've been career suicide. Thank God she had JD to guider her.

Shezz, I am starting think that we will not be getting a new album or single this year. I have had that feeling all week because something just seems off with the whole business side of MC's career. MC has not talked much lately about who her manager is or what label she is on. If an artist is under a recording contract, doesn't he or she has to deliver an album within a certain time frame.

I last remember seeing studio pics for MIAMTEC. Did she have any for Caution? I think Caution didn't have any studio pics posted. I think she stopped for two main reasons - first being around MIAM when she claimed her entire concept was stolen/lifted by another artist (who was that?). And secondly because she really doesn't want to get the lambs all worked up about an album that's been delayed over and over for whatever reason. Robert Anthony, when do you think she will drop a single (and when do you think she should)? I love hearing your theories and manifestations.

It is funny that you mentioned Taylor's retro Polaroids. I have those in a yellow photo sleeve. They were included with the deluxe version of her 1989 album that I found at Goodwill. I have been thinking about selling them on Ebay. Lol. They have to be worth at least $15.00 right now.

Oh yes the greatest mystery that was never solved. I remember Taylor Swift and Beyoncé's name coming up as the people who stole the concept but I can't remember what the theories were. One I think had to do with T Swift's 1989 having the retro polaroids promo strategy (I honestly can't remember what the theory was because I don't remember MIAM having similar strategy). If anyone remembers do share.

Edward, do you really think it's deeper than Poo Bear having a big mouth? I just can't believe MC is just writing songs in her journal and not going into the studio to lay down vocals. Maybe you are right, MC hasn't posted any studio pics because she just hasn't been inspired by anyone or even her own vocal capacities now. I hope everyday that she would post a studio pic in the booth with any producer. I would even a take a JD studio pic at this point. My original post was prompted by watching some studio videos of Robin Thicke finishing up his new album coming out in February or March.

Robert-Anthony, wasn't that about six years ago? I don't think Mariah is that sensitive. She might not post studio pictures anymore because she hasn't been working on anything new or with someone she finds exciting. Sadly, the longer she waits, the more her voice deteriorates. I'm not sure what a new album from her would sound like five years from now. At this point, her whisper register isn't what it used to be, and the whistle register, as crisp as we once knew it, isn't there anymore. I really don't know what she's waiting for.

I think that I have figured out why MC doesn't post studio pics anymore. I thought back to the one songwriter who had the most songwriting credits on Caution. This songwriter was talking about their studio time together more than MC. We never knew she was in studio with him until he was talking to the media saying that the two had seven songs in. The person who I am talking about is Poo Bear. I think that he may have upset MC for saying this. Poo Bear was probably a suggestion by L.A. Reid. Their songwriting style and melodies are not similiar to me. His style and melodies are great for Justin Beiber. This makes me remember how Virgin Records suggested to Boy George that he work with Teddy Riley and Gene Griffin. Boy George described his experience with Gene and Teddy as a horrible experience.

MC's samples choices (107,942)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
MC chose some of the best samples for her songs like Heartbreaker, Honey, How Much, Fantasy, The One remix, Miss You, My All/Stay Awhile remix, Crybaby, Loverboy and A No No. I could go on and on. Listening to Muni Long's songs like Superpowers, Make Me Forget, and Leave My Baby Tonight made me think that both of them have a keen ear for choosing samples that work extremely well with their melodies and lyrics. Plus, their songs make you want to get on the dancefloor. Listen to Muni Long's Superpowers and watch your head start to move. Lol.

It's strange to see the news about Anderson Paak and Mariah together considering Mariah was just linked with Lenny Kravitz earlier this year. I'm excited about Mariah collaborating with Anderson Paak on new music - I really liked his first album and think he can bring a fresh sound to Mariah's work.
However, I worry about her getting involved again with someone she also works with professionally - it didn't work out well in the past. I liked the idea of Mariah and Lenny together better than Mariah and Anderson because they are around the same age and are not working together professionally.

MC hasn't taken a photo like that probably since Caution. Just maybe she is feeling sexy again because someone is thinking about her and sending her text messages, flowers and cards. I am just saying and thinking how I felt when I knew someone was thinking about me. Now it is not happening at the moment, but I remember how I felt way back then in 2016.

Don't get me wrong. MC is beautiful. But instead of looking at her face, overall look, our eyes are drawn elsewhere. I don't understand it. I get Tommy pulled her so far one way, but that doesn't mean you have to swing the pendulum so far the other way. Find a nice middle ground. Bring back some denim, ala Butterfly era looks.

Lol. MC hasn't been this smitten with a man since Nick. We never saw Tanka and MC hold hands in public. We can tell AP is smitten with MC too because we saw him take the lead and hold the door as they were leaving Duemani. We may get a Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell type of duet for the new album.

MarBrando has a good ring to it. Brandon is his real name. Anyway, I hope he is MC's next husband. He is everything that MC needs right now in a potential partner.

Oh wow, I can't believe I made the list. Robert Anthony - we don't call your glue for nothing. Happy New Year fam. Things Mariah related I'm looking forward to this year:
1. MC16 ( I believe it will be worth the wait) 2. Daydream30 with the MB30 treatment. Also, crazy thought but maybe the perfect time to release Someone's Ugly Daughter. Recorded together, so both 30 years old. Maybe a double album. 3. AIWFC recapturing the BB Hot 100 longest running n1 crown for Mariah by Christmas 2025.

Remastering Daydream (107,890)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|
|
What you're hearing is an example of the loudness wars: essentially mastering engineers compress recordings to make them sound louder to compete with other poorly mastered (loud) records. This trend became mainstream thanks to Oasis and how their records sounded so much louder on the radio, and due to their popularity, everyone else started doing it. Daydream is an excellently recorded and mastered album, boasting a dynamic range of 13 which is one of the highest in her catalogue. It'd be a shame to lose all those beautifully subdued and quiet moments of the record against the crescendos and climaxes. But that's the way things seem to be going. Personally the CD sounds superb and doesn't need updating in my view. But who am I?

Hello all, a flying visit to say a belated Merry Christmas and an advanced Happy New Year to you all. The new super audio CD of Merry Christmas by Mobile Fidelity sounds fantastic. If you have a decent hifi set up and a good pair of headphones, it's worth investing in, as personally I think it is the best the album has ever sounded. There's so many nuances to unearth, I find with each listen I'm discovering more about an album I thought I knew inside out. I only wish the debut, Emotions, Music Box and Daydream would get the same treatment one day. Love to you all.

I think every morning news program played AIWFCIY in one of their segments during the last two weeks. Radio spins increased. It was playing in every department store. The tour was her biggest Christmas tour ever. The extra retail vinyl helped too. I believe something big is coming in 2025. It may not be MC16, but it will be something that will take the Lambs by surprise and snatch our pocketbooks and wallets. Lol.

I just posted about this very thing. AIWFCIY is cemented as a classic along with Nat King Cole's version of The Christmas song or Bing Crosby singing White Christmas. There is no need to worry about Brenda every gaining more Spotify listeners. MC just broke another Spotify record today. That might be true for Spotify US, but don't forget it's not the only metric they look at. YouTube, for example, has way more total usage with two billion users, even though it's behind Spotify and Apple in paid subscribers. Mariah's airplay and sales are much bigger than Brenda's too.

Ed Sheeran (107,864)

A Hozier and Mariah Carey collaboration in the vein of his song Take Me To Church could work as a lead single just to create buzz for a new album. The Spotify/video version could be with a full gospel choir. I believe MC will be thinking more out of the box in 2025. I say this because I believe new business deals will include stimpulations to work with more pop artists who could help bring in a return on the investment for releasing and promoting a new Mariah Carey album. The usual JD or Tricky R&B produced album will not cut it in 2025. MC has gone far too long releasing a new album to come back with a typical R&B album.

In my opinion, Ed's voice would blend better with Mariah's voice. I like Bruno, his pen game and delivery, but his songs usually have a moment where he goes all out vocally, and judging by the "Yes, And? Remix" vocal fiasco, I don't think Mariah's voice is in the kind of condition to match that. Ed, on the other hand, would complement her voice perfectly.

First, I would like wish everyone a Merry Christmas today. I hope your day is filled with joy and love. Love is what we need more in this world. Second, I think Mariah and Anderson make a cute couple. Maybe Anderson is the type of man MC needs in her life. Any male who can write and sing a song like Leave The Door Open understands how to get a woman's attention. Plus, I wouldn't be suprised if Anderson is helping MC create a new sound for her next album. AP has won 5 Grammys. He is a well sought out songwriter and producer. Let's hope he is the one who can finally get MC and Bruno Mars in the studio in 2025.

Album sales (107,848)

MC could have one last great multi-platinum seller if she recorded three type of albums.
1. a duets soul and R&B cover album - early to late 70's and early 80's 2. a jazz album 3. a pop album produced by only 3 producers - Jack Antonoff, Jacob Collier, and Andrew Watt (top 20 producers of 2024).
I hope one day she can take home multi-Grammys like she should have done in 1996. It would be somerhing that would make her so happy.

Album sales (107,847)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah doesn't sell albums like she used to, and that's just the natural progression of things. No artist stays at the top forever, it's a reality of the industry and of life. Just as our generation did, every generation gravitates toward new artists who speak to their current experiences and culture. Mariah music spoke to us. The same thing happened to legends like Aretha Franklin, Barbra, and even Whitney before Mariah. They were once dominant forces, but as time passed, new stars emerged, and the spotlight shifted.
Mariah's legacy is cemented though, she's one of the greatest artists of all time, with achievements that few will ever match. But today's music landscape is different. Streaming platforms have replaced physical album sales, and newer artists like Ariana Grande dominate the platforms for now. Even Ariana, as popular as she is today, likely won't hold the same position in a decade, because new artists will take center stage.
Let's not be delusional and think Mariah is the "It Girl", she isn't. It's not about fading relevance, it's just evolution. Sure, album sales aren't what they used to be, but Mariah's cultural impact and artistry always keep her in the mix. And when that time of year comes and she gives the signal, you know it's time for her to defrost and for the Christmas magic to happen.
