Orkun, I'm glad you smiled over the lawsuit joke. Even though I don't personally know any fan from the Philippines, I do appreciate and admire the love they have for Mariah 25 years later. Her Asian fans have been very loyal and supportive throughout her entire career.

Mariah's being sued by 30 Filipinos (47,665)
by Edward from USA
| |
|

I'm so happy Mariah tore it up in Manila. The Philippines is a country where Mariah influence is felt in almost every female singer. Those who have sung her songs through the years are very good vocalist too, like Regine Velasquez. If there was a country I wanted her to represent, it was there, and she did. Those whistle notes at the end of "Emotions" were to die for. She showed her loyal Filipino fan base that she's still the queen. Filipinos are some of Mariah's most devoted fans, so I'm glad she gave them her all. The way they received her at the airport reminded me when she was really popular in the US. I don't know what she did, if she hired a vocal coach or what, but she should keep on doing what she's doing because it is working. That's what I want from Mariah, not a perfect performances, but consistent ones. Rumor has it that fans on the first few rows ended up deaf after those ultrasonic whistle notes, it's all on RumorTube.

Ian James / I'll Be There (47,651)
by Edward from USA

Ian James, it is has been obvious that Mariah has been exercising her muscle (voice) and it keeps getting more in shape with every concert. She has been hitting notes she didn't hit in the first few venues. She's also been creative by changing the way she sings some of the most difficult parts of her repertoire. I rather she sings some of her songs tweaking them to suit her voice than fail miserably by trying to hit notes she's not at that moment vocally in shape for. I like when Mariah talks to the audience, I think it is cute. There are songs that call for interaction with the audience like "Always Be My Baby", but when in it comes to the ballads, Popped Eyes help me, lol. It annoys me when she interrupts, let's say "Vision of Love", switching into speaking mode, it kind of take the vibe of the song away for me. I'm happy though that she's getting her confidence back. You'll see that one of these days she'll give you what you need. She's already doing it with some songs. She definitely did a great job with "I'll Be There" in Manila.

Stacey, I agree with you, the end of Supernatural was phenomenal, so relatable and unpretentious. I'm so happy to see she has toned down the diva attitude a little bit too. For most people perception is reality, so I'm glad she's exuding confident. If she continues like this, by the time she hopefully hit the US, she'll be in a very good place vocally.

Lullaby of Birdland / discarded tracks (47,602)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Mariah definitely did a great job with "Lullaby of Birdland". I can't wait to get my hands on a studio recording of the whole song, I know it must sound amazing, of course I made my very own mp3 of this performance, lol. She's been giving us some consistency, I hope she keeps it up. Something extremely bad must've happened in her marriage that Mariah decided to basically leave gems like this out of MIAMTEC. I don't think they were discarded or put aside because they were not good enough, but because she needed to vent about her marriage situation with new tracks. I was sad that "The Art of Letting Go" didn't make it into the main part of the album. I could definitely see it caressing with "Lullaby of Birdland". Kudos to MC for the effort to give her attending a quality experience.

Marissa / bitchiness / paid haters (47,570)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Marissa, your post was spot on. I was going to say something about it, but you stated it perfectly. Now that the messageboard is "all-loving and positive" and that "we're holding hands, lipsyncing and hitting high notes together", some fans want to stir the pot. It is like bitchiness is the new trend here. Talk about crucifying the "so called haters" and then summoning them when they are not around, what a contradiction. Some are so cocky behind their monitors thinking they've crushed the ones who have disagreed with them and that's why the "crushed ones" aren't posting; that's what I call pure delusion. And for those who think there are "paid haters" posting here, shouldn't we be seeing them posting several times a day to get paid for their services? It is not that Mariah's eclipsing or threatening anybody's career.

Webmaster / balance / hope (47,469)
by Edward from USA

|
|
Eric, thanks for not allowing this messageboard to turn into a boring "Mariah can't do no wrong let's all hold hands hit a high note and praise the queen" messageboard. It is a Mariah messageboard, and we all expect mostly positive things to be posted, but I do also believe in balance. I believe in questioning and expressing respectfully our concerns pertaining Mariah's career. As for those posts you guys don't like, just skip them, I do. At this point those who can't take Mariah "as is" should consider moving on or falling back on her extensive back catalog. I don't personally enjoy her current live performances anymore, but I long for her music though. As long as she releases good music even if she has to piecemeal every song, so be it. I've always been intrigued as to why her voice keeps on declining, but I'm not dwelling on that anymore. At the end of the day, it is her voice, career, sales, #1's, boobs, drink, weaves, and everything in between. I wish the best for Mariah. I still hope for a technique, a vocal coach, or something that could bring some consistency to her voice. Even though I'm less hopeful, I haven't completely lost hope.

Nick Cannon (47,348)

Nick keeps being a true gentlemen with his comments about Mariah. They are definitely dealing with the divorce with so much maturity. Since he couldn't openly talk about the divorce, morphing his Mariah tattoo was the best thing he could do to make a statement that they are not together anymore, and that they are not trying to work things out. I don't understand though why he didn't get the tattoo removed with laser, it would've been an alternative. It wasn't a complicated colorful tattoo. It is incredible how in a couple of session he could've gotten rid of it completely. I wish him the best. I know they're both putting their kids first, the way it should always be.

May / to nodule or not to nodule (47,303)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
May, as you very well stated, technology and science have advanced a world since '97 when Julie Andrews went under the knife to correct a non-cancerous throat condition that didn't have anything to do with voice decline or nodules. Laser has substituted the knife with such precision that artists like Adele, Justin Timberlake, Steven Tyler, to name a few, have had their voices corrected successfully. Removing Mariah's nodules could improve her voice significantly or even bring it back, but such procedure would also take away with it her ability to use the whistle register. It is a big dilemma for Mariah when she would lose what has set her apart from Whitney, Celine and many others. She had the best of both worlds: a wonderful and powerful singing voice, and the ability to not only tap into the whistle register like many other artists like the late Minnie Riperton, Rachelle Ferrell and Chanice do/did, but also enunciate while on it. It would be a pretty difficult decision for Mariah to decide whether to nodule or not to nodule.

Andrew / name calling (47,299)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Andrew, I completely understand your frustration. Many of us have been there for years now, always hopeful for some improvement, but nonetheless still supportive. Some have move on, and it is okay. Please try to to tone it down a little bit. I don't see anything wrong with you expressing your frustrations, but try to refrain from name calling and other derogatory epithets for you will be getting the same response even when your point of view might not be a crazy one. As I said before, I don't see you as a hater/troll, but you're coming across as one. When it comes to Mariah, some fans can be too passionate. Many fans, for personal reasons, are heavily invested in her music/voice. For instance Travon was bullied and her music helped him get through it. Some feel a sense of loss, and some other are tired the gimmicks. We can all debate these things here as long as we keep it cool. There have been some cyber-tsunamis and E-quakes on this board through the years, but we have managed to work things out. Peace.

LC / stupid / the pressure cooker (47,243)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
LC, would you be kind enough to show me any instance where I have called/implied that anybody was stupid on this board? When all the chaos exploded related to her first show, I didn't say anything about it because it was evident the sentiment of most fans, not only here but basically everywhere. Whitney had an addiction, but we all knew that. Most of us felt for her and hoped for her recovery. Mariah has been having issues with her voice for 17 years now, and we have not clue other than some comment she made about her nodules, and our own speculations. If your boss knows your limitations, he won't ask you to do something you can't do, otherwise you shouldn't complain when he expects you to deliver. Mariah presents herself as "The Voice". Some of the harsh criticism she has received here the last couple of days has been years of frustrations in a pressure cooker. I don't believe some random people just showed up here to hate on Mariah, those who are complaining have supported her as much as anybody else. Tough love sometimes is much needed. Peace.

Marissa, Andrew / the voice (47,226)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Marissa, I agree with your last post. Andrew may have been harsh, but he is a fan like most other fans out there expressing his frustrations. And I don't believe he is a hater at all, if he were, why bother posting anything at all. Excuses like: "she's married now, she has two kids and a husband, she's getting a divorce, the weather was horrible, the altitude was different from the one in the US, she's jet lagged, she didn't sleep well, she didn't rest her voice, her boobs were pressing too hard against her chest, she couldn't hear herself, she had the flu, she had a cold, she had laryngitis, she farted, got out of air and couldn't hit that note" are starting to sound ridiculous. Any great singer has his/her bad days, but when it comes to Mariah most of us are nervous every time she performs even if it is a single song. I hope she does something, because the situation is so bad she cannot even harmonize the regular part of her songs.

by Edward from USA

Stephen, I was just thinking the same thing. I haven't posted anything regarding the situation because the writing has been hanging not too pretty on the wall for a long time now. I just hope Mariah takes this outcry as a signal that something seriously needs to be done should she want to maintain the few fans she has left. She needs to do her part because we all here have been rooting for/supporting her for years now. Please take a break, but don't just stop posting here. Send me an email to b_terius@hotmail.com.

Stacey / Drama (47,060)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Stacey, amen to your last post. It ain't that deep. I also remember those days when fans here were like the gangs on the Michael Jackson's "Beat It" video. At that time I didn't dare to post because some people here were using curse words I hadn't even heard before, the UK Gang vs the US Gang. There was not much censoring back then, Mariah was still much talked about everywhere, and we were all so passionate. We can agree that we all love Mariah's artistry/voice, but we also have different opinions. Some fans will express disappointment, others will express a "Mariah-can-do-no-wrong" devotion, but as long as we state our points of views with respect, we should all get a along. We are part of the remaining fans Mariah still has. As for the drama, I want to quote that black lady from that YouTube video that went viral: Ain't nobody got time for that.

Kenny, thanks for you comment. I never get nasty to people on this board. I have my opinions like everybody else. If I like a post or have something to say, I do so. My problem is when some people try to get personal or dictate the way other fans have to act or the things they have to post here to be considered true fans, according to their guidelines of course. If you read what I posted in answer to Angelo as to why YDKWTD wasn't successful, you'll see there wasn't anything disrespectful to Mariah on it, and his answer was equally respectful. I don't know if you got to see some of Isaac's posts, he was mostly nasty to other fans here when people didn't agree with his "Mariah is perfect" point of view, and got banned from the board. I think he is back with a different nick, a nick I won't acknowledge by typing it here. He'll get banned again though, Isaac is starting to show his true colors again.

Kyle / I agree (47,020)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Kyle, I completely agree with your post. Digital singles are cannibalizing album sales. Some movement will have to breathe some life into the album concept again. The concept of releasing an EP with five or six songs as a bundle, either you get them all or you get none, is great. Quality artists are struggling with what is happening. In the past the Grammy's would at least honor great music regardless of popularity, but when you see Justin Beiber getting nominated, we clearly realize there must be something wrong. As for Barbra's new album, selling 196k was a big accomplishment, her fan base keeps being loyal to her. Back in 2009 she topped Mariah by selling 180k. So, even though things have been going down hill for most artists on the albums department, she has managed to keep her numbers up plus some.

Travon / no, thank you (47,017)

Travon, this is not RuPaul Drag Race. You can go with your customs, dresses, wigs and stinking attitude someplace else. Whenever you feel like dragging someone, get a doll so you can keep on practicing. I won't entertain any of your posts anymore, you can save them. As far as I know, I've never addressed you, so don't send for me, unless I send for you. I like Mariah as singer, as a lyricist, as an entertainer, but I'm not interested in her weaves, perfumes, nail polish, high heels or dresses. Don't get me wrong or feel bad, I don't have anything against you for being into all that though. After all, this is America, the land of the free, and the land of some jerks too. You can sit down now. Really, have several seats.

Marissa / Wendy (47,016)
by Edward from USA

Marissa, Wendy as always goes with the flow. She doesn't seem to have anything to talk about these days. Mariah hasn't said anything for God's sake, yet Wendy keeps on talking BS. It is so sad to see this fuggly troll being so insensitive towards Mariah, considering she very well knows what Mariah is going through. It's like she's going back to her radio days. Now I see why her son doesn't like her anymore, kids must make fun of him at school for having such a mouthy woman as mother. Mariah will bounce back though, she always does.

Travon, promotions (47,006)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Travon, Mariah doesn't control the promotion of her albums, she has input on her part of the promotion. It is clear the label executives are over her. The #Beautiful Clear Channel deal was negotiated by the label as part of the promotion plan they had for 2013, many other labels have negotiated similar deals for their artists. The videos she put out (#Beautiful and YM(E)) came from the label promotional budget to be recouped from future album sales, so check your facts. When Mariah signed up with Def Jam, she had come from a 100-million deal to a 20-million deal with IDJ for 4 albums with an open option for a 5th album. She regained her popularity back in 2005 with TEOM, so the label clearly knew when they signed her Mariah's name alone wasn't going to do the trick, and Charmbracelet was an indication of that. Labels are out there to make money, they had a plan for MIAMTEC laid out for 2013, when things started falling apart, they did what any smart organization would've done, and I don't blame them for it.

Angelo, maybe just maybe (47,001)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Angelo, I understand your frustration. YDKWTD could've been a great follow up to #Beautiful. Mariah had a killing body, everything was moving accordingly, #Beautiful was a fresh new sound and was getting some love on the radio, but with the attention span of people these days, if you don't act quickly, you're forgotten quickly. Maybe, just maybe, Mariah will re release MIAMTEC with some bonus tracks once she starts touring. I have a feeling she'll do that, since she has already stated she can't stop writing songs, and that fans shouldn't be surprised if she sung a new song at some of the venues. A producer posted a picture with Mariah on the studio stating he had heard three new tracks a couple of months ago. I think we're in for a treat, but we have to wait and see. Besides that, this tour is going to get her in a good place vocally for the next album. An album that I think won't take more than two years to be released.

Angelo, YDKWTD (46,999)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Angelo, YDKWTD didn't even have a lyric video. It had no promotion from Mariah or the label; it didn't have any exposure, so radio didn't play it. When a new album is released, iTunes top 100 gives you an idea which songs people are feeling because most of them chart into the 100 for a couple of weeks, and regardless airplay, they also chart on The Hot 100 even if it's for one week. That's what happened with "Migrate" and "Betcha Gon' Know". This time, I was so surprised when I checked iTunes and no one single song from MIAMTEC charted on their top 100. Not only that, Mariah is not whom most people are looking forward to listening to these days. No promotion plus push backs plus no video plus no interviews plus lack of popularity is disaster. At least MIAMTEC was a great album. Labels are not investing millions in promotions because they are not making money like they used to from album sales. MIAMTEC's opportunity was when #Beautiful came out, but sadly things didn't go well and the expectation deflated just like what happened to Leona Lewis' Glassheart. Knowing now that Mariah was going through some rough time with her marriage, I can understand why she wouldn't be in a promotion mode. Marriage has always been a serious matter to her.

Shelly, Manny, "Close My Eyes" and "Outside" (46,986)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Shelly and Manny, you guys are right, it is definitely "oblivious". My browser has the habit of auto correcting some words when they are right. Most times I catch the error and add the word to the dictionary, but sometimes they just slipped through. "Close My Eyes" lyrics are genius. ....... Funny how one can learn to grow numb to the madness and block it away I left the words unsaid let it all dissipate and I try to forget ....... "Outside" was my go to song ...... Standing alone Eager to just Believe it's good enough to be what You really are But in your heart Uncertainty forever lies And you'll always be Somewhere on the Outside ....... Should I get crucified for wanting more of that from Mariah, I would go peacefully into the night. The former verse is the vivid description of how Mariah handles most things. Wendy talks sh*t, the media spread rumors, that backup singer throws shade, yet Mariah applies that verse time and time again. That's how I got hooked up to Mimi. Her distinctive voice and lyrics spoke to me, and I wasn't ever the same.

At her best (46,980)
by Edward from USA
| |
|
|
Lyrically, "Butterfly", "Outside" and "Close My Eyes" are the epitome of perfection, Mariah at her best. It is kind of weird, but it seems to be that when Mariah was younger her song writing had much more depth. Nearing the edge Obvious I almost Fell right over A part of me Will never be quite able To feel stable That woman-child falling inside Was on the verge of fading Thankfully I Woke up in time When Mariah was 20, she had the maturity of a woman way older than that. Many seasoned lyricist would dream to have such depth. Now we have deep lyrics like: "Wiggle wiggle wiggle", "Bang bang into the room (I know you want it)", and even with much more depth like Nicki's Anaconda: "My anaconda don't, my anaconda don't, my anaconda don't want none unless you got buns, hun." I can't wait for Anaconda in acoustic version.
