There is so much (social) media these days and they all try to stand out with nonsense news in an attempt to get noticed. It's all about superficial clutter slowly numbing the audience and I find it very boring yet disturbing. I miss the days when all that really mattered was the artistry and creativity. Of course there have always been non-talents doing watever it took to get some crumbs of the spotlight but being adored for being a nobody has become the norm these days. During the '80s and '90s Princess Diana was the most famous woman in the world followed by Victoria Beckham in the '00s. Now we have Kim Kardashian. It's just that the videos were so schmaltzy and not very well made. I can imagine though that many a fan found strength in the lyrics of CTTA. (Friday 26 July 2019; 11:21)

Re: Fly abandonedly into the rainbow (90,422) (90,425) by Tijl from Belgium I feel you Andrew. The day of the Antwerp concert in 1999 (don't mention our age) of the Rainbow tour I was so excited. I couldn't believe I was going to be in the same space as my idol. A shame though that the first concert of the European leg was such a mess. She was two hours late and most of the props needed on stage hadn't arrived from the US yet. But I couldn't care less at the time despite it not being a great concert. But she did redeem herself with the stop of the Charmbracelet tour in Rotterdam in 2003. That show, despite being on a much smaller scale, had very high production values and her voice was on fire that night. I wish I could see her in Vegas one time but my bank manager begs to differ. On the continent the original album version was released and had some moderate success in a few countries but for the remains of the singles everything fell flat. And the European tour didn't receive great reviews either. I believe she was very disappointed with the lack of support by Sony and she started to work herself into the ground trying to make the best of it, leading up to the Glitter fiasco. Heartbreaker got a strong launch with a very expensive video but after that it went downhill. I saw the first concert of the European leg of the Rainbow tour in Antwerp and in all honesty it was a mess. I really believe she loved the album but the difficult situation with the powers that be had the momentum fading out quickly. After TGIFY none of the other singles received any decent promotion. I felt that in Capri I would be able to effectively finish the album on a shorter schedule. And I did. I made it in three months, I was like 'Get me off this label.' I couldn't take it. I also understood that lots of the initial material for "All that Glitters" was later used on Rainbow. To me the album isn't very coherent and I hardly ever listen to it these days. Most people will remember the impact of WBT because of the comeback factor but TR is so much more powerful. As you mentioned, the longing to a passed moment of bliss is what it makes so poignant. Re: Madame X (90,084) (90,101) by Tijl from Belgium "Ray Of Light" is an all time favourite because to me it feels as an authentic and genuine album telling a personal story whereas most of Madonna's other work comes across as very calculated to be in sync with the current trends, especially her later work. "Confessions" is a fun record yet could also have been made by the likes of Kylie or any other dance diva. I don't care about "Madame X" one bit. What I have seen of Madonna in the media of lately was a fading star desperately trying to be relevant. Especially her interview at Graham Norton made me feel sorry for her. Madonna is an iconic popstar but to me she doesn't come across as a very likeable woman. (Thursday 27 June 2019; 10:33)
