About Edward from USA:

Bill / #1's (49,271) by Edward from USA
Bill, I like your list too. Yours is perfect for when the new compilation actually comes out. My list is just to entertain myself while awaiting for the real thing. I'm adding "AIWFCIY", "AAO" with Westlife to the list right now. I'm also replacing "Fantasy" ft. ODB with the album version.

Mimi L. / #1's (49,253) by Edward from USA
Mimi L., the following excerpt is from Mariah's official website "In celebration of Mariah's groundbreaking record, and in tandem with the concert series, Mariah is working on a new edition of her worldwide best-selling album #1's. Set to include all 18 of her number one hits, along with newly recorded music, the album will be released later this year." Since the article is on her website, we should agree that she's definitely working on a new edition of #1's. I created a playlist with her 18 #1's, and there's only space for a new five minutes song, so if she wants to release new music with it, it would have to be a double disc album. Mariah has enough music to give us at least six new songs. I'm excited about that.

Warren / my grandma (49,170) by Edward from USA
Warren, can you imagine my grandma dying from exposure to Nick's "music"?

B / Nick (49,163) by Edward from USA
B, exactly my point. I don't know why we keep bringing Nick's name into 2015, when clearly Mariah high-noted his ass into 2014 forever. So, he should stay there, in the past, while Mariah and her lambs keep on moving on. He's allowed to babysit sometimes though. Nick could be a good DJ, and an average host, but a musician, he is clearly not, nor will he ever be. I let my grandmother listen to one of his goofy songs from "White People Party Music" on late November 2014, and she didn't make it into 2015. Now I'll have to live with that for the rest of my life. 20 seconds into the song, she said: "I can't, my head" in Spanish, gave me the eye of being tortured, and the rest is history. Guys don't tell anybody, my father doesn't know.

Special K / B (49,160) by Edward from USA
Special K, welcome back. Don't be a stranger, remember you are one of the foremothers of this messageboard. B, I hadn't had the chance to thank you for your comment. I guess we all have that one pic where we look kind of decent.

Monark / she doesn't wanna (49,159) by Edward from USA
Monark, I definitely echo your sentiment. As much as most lambs love hating on Nick, fair game is fair game. Mariah lyrically shredded him to pieces punch after punch on MIAMTEC. Now that "blank checks" turned into "blank texts", there's no diss at all. And besides, who is actually listening to any "music" Nick puts out, really? I think that on 2014 Mariah was singing to him:
"Too far apart to bridge the distance
But something keeps us hanging on and on
Pretending not to know the difference
Denying what we had is gone
Every moment we're together
It's just breaking me down
I know we swore it was forever
But it hurts too much to stay around"
She didn't wanna cry, so she dropped his ass, she's happy now, moving on, new year, new adventures. She'll be just fine.

Mariah / big announcement (49,129) by Edward from USA
We are almost certain about what Mariah is going to announce on Ellen, but I think we might get a shocking surprise too. We are expecting her to announce her Vegas gig, but she might actually have some other news pertaining some new music. It might not be a whole album, but I think there's definitely some new music on the way. There might even be a single. I can't wait.

Abraham / Ms. Ross, again, lol (49,110) by Edward from USA
Abraham, it is well known that Diana Ross has an average voice, but it's not less known that the woman has lots of charisma and a very nice catalog. When you conjugate those three elements, you usually get good results. I only have her greatest hits, but every once in a while my aunt plays her music when I come visit her, and I listen to songs as good or better than the ones on her greatest hits, just like Mariah's greatest hits. There are many singers with huge voices who never made it because they didn't have any charisma, sorry if I offend anybody, but Jennifer Hudson is one of those, she's confident and has the voice, but she's not charismatic. Mariah has the charisma, but she has lost her confidence. She's usually seen looking for approval or, as a good Aries, always in her head, I can attest to the latter.

Chris S / payroll (49,094) by Edward from USA
Chris S, I couldn't agree with you more. Sometimes this is like that song Mariah recorded for Rainbow, but never released, "High School 101, Back In Time".

Being an entertainer / Ms. Ross (49,091) by Edward from USA
Many people seem to have the misconception that being an entertainer has to do with dancing, when that's not quite the truth. Being an entertainer has to do with confidence, how you move around and work the stage, how you engage the audience. Diana Ross has a little voice compared to Mariah, but the woman was great entertainer, it wasn't the dancing, it wasn't the singing, it was her presence, her confidence. Mariah was more of an entertainer when she could control her voice; her mind was more into the performance, and less into the possibility of a vocal failure. If Vegas is part of gradual retirement, I think it is ok, but like Jaker20 stated, she's not getting any younger, and her voice is fragile. We can all be selfish and want her to be in a place where we could see her when we want, but that doesn't necessarily mean it would be the best career choice for her.

Vegas, Vegas, Vegas (49,031) by Edward from USA
Vegas could work for Mariah if it's done right and in the right doses. I don't think she should have a residency in Vegas, she should rather do Vegas a few months a year, as if it were a seasonal show that somebody can't wait for it to return the following year. Vegas is also about confidence. Besides all the production, the artist ultimately is the one who carries the show. Mariah needs to get her voice to a consistency where she won't look insecure about the next note while on stage, or that she's gasping for air here and there, people smell insecurity, that's what bullies (Wendell Williams) pry on. So, once the season is over, she would be vocally ready to release any music and perform it live on Ellen or any other TV show. Everybody lip a little in Vegas, nobody can't do five nights without a little lipping here and there, but Mariah has drawn lots of negative attention to her, because let's be honest, Mariah is aweful at lipping.

Abraham / retro (48,972) by Edward from USA
Abraham, I also think that songs like "Mine Again", "Circles" and "I Wish You Knew" were pivotal in the success of "The Emancipation of Mimi". Mariah poured her soul in those songs. The retro 70's sound of the album attracted not only current and new fans, but older folks who enjoyed that type of music for the nostalgia. E=MC2 was an attempt to get as many #1's as they could, that was the concept L.A. Read had in mind, a collection of songs that could serve as singles, but the soul wasn't really there for me. MIAMTEC was more like TEOM, but the lack of promotion hindered the potential of any good song to carry it like "We Belong Together" basically carried the TEOM. At this point I think Mariah needs to collaborate with some mainstream artist just to open the doors for her next project. Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Beyonce would be great.

Angelo / 25th Anniversary (48,890) by Edward from USA
Angelo, I don't think Mariah doesn't necessarily like that era, but you have to remember that "Mariah Carey" is full of vocal acrobatics. It was about showing her range and establishing her as a powehouse vocalist. Most songs on "Mariah Carey" are difficult to replicate live because of the complexities of the production. During the "Chanteuse" tour she had to remove "Vision of Love" from the setlist because her voice wasn't in shape for that, so the thought of tackling "Anytime You Need a Friend" wouldn't have been a good idea. She loves "Buttefly", yet she only sings "My All" from that album. It is a matter of choosing a blend of songs that could please the fans, but that wouldn't render her voice shut for the next show. There are songs that she won't sing again unless she rearranges them. I would love to hear her sing "I Don't Wanna Cry", "Love Takes Time" and "Can't Let Go" again.

2015 is full of great surprises (48,870) by Edward from USA
Mariah has enough songs recorded to give us a nice surprise for her 25th anniversary without overworking herself. According to "The Breakfast Club" interview, she has a great song called "Kick Rocks", and like that one I'm pretty sure she has many others. She was supposed to have sung a new song here and there during "The Elusive Chanteuse" tour, but she didn't, unless she actually recorded "Lullaby of Birdland" and "Don't Explain", then I would die. I don't think we'll go empty-handed on 2015. If she collaborates with a successful mainstream artist for the first single, she could get that 19th #1 she so deserves. I'm not stressing about #1's anymore, but I do really want Mariah to be on the charts again, she's earned it. I was flabbergasted when "Make It Look Good", hailed as one of the best records of 2014, didn't even get a Grammy nomination.

Time is ticking (48,863) by Edward from USA
Mariah is going to be 45 in a few months. She is in not position to be taking a 5-year break, because as we all know, age plays a big factor in music these days, especially for women. After enjoying her well-deserved holidays, she should focus on getting in shape and working on her voice. For her 25th anniversary, she should release either an EP or an album with the best of her B-sides plus a few of the tracks that were left out of MIAMTEC. I'm one of those who think that she still has a great main stream album under her boobs. After that she could do whatever she wants without feeling any pressure, like a Jazz album, Gospel or even venturing into country, many of us love "Right to Dream" and "Help Me Make It". Before she turns 50, she should release at least 2 more albums, because after that things are going to get a little bit more complicated. Time is ticking.

Marissa / relatability (48,773) by Edward from USA
Marissa, I agree. Relatability makes a huge difference in getting new fans. Songs like "Outside", "Petals", "Looking In" and "Can't Take That Away" take completely new meaning once you know the story behind Mariah, the fairytale like story of her beginnings, her struggle, the ups and down, and triumphs. I see her 90's songs are intimate conversations with her fans. If you're not a fan, you won't ever know the reference to some of her past songs on for "For The Record". Mariah needs more than just her fans for a comeback, so she'll have to make some changes just like she did before TEOM came out. America loves a comeback. She should go, get in shape, release an EP with some collabos to taste the waters without risking failure, and then comeback full force and slay. Rihanna's back on 2015, and Ariana seems to be following the path of releasing albums every year like Mariah did during the 90's. With a hot collabo to kickstart her project, she'll reign suprime once again. Bruno Mars or Lady Gaga would help her do the trick.

Misty Moon / Happy Holidays (48,698) by Edward from USA

For those who celebrate Christmas: Merry Christmas, and for those who celebrate other holidays: Happy Hanukkah, Happy Ramadan, Happy Kwanzaa. I wanted to say that I don't take anything personal here. For those who couldn't see Mariah this time around, I hope you could see her soon. The experience of being in the same room with Mariah after all these years is still beyond this world. I'm leaving you with this little song Mariah sung for a Japanese commercial more than 15 years ago.

What is delusion / today is the day (48,697) by Edward from USA
Delusion: "an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder". Now, according to the definition, a statement like "Mariah's voice is in great shape and always has been" is a delusion and whoever said it or agrees with it, is delusional, as simple as that, without sugarcoating it. That Nick has diarrhea of the mouth is a fact, that he is childish is fact, that he didn't keep his nest warm is a fact, that he took advantage of her is pure speculation, since Mariah isn't a gullible Mary Poppins fool. On a positive note: I'm with Marcus and a couple of friends to go see Mariah at Beacon Theater. I was expecting Marcus to quack like a duck, but he is actually a real fan, with over the top Christmas signs and all.

this_is_qhm, Orkun / the neverending story (48,696) by Edward from USA
this_is_qhm, your post confirms that keeping your cool and class while getting your point across is best. You didn't risk an ass attack by being agitated, vicious or angry. You conveyed your point of view rather than pushing it onto Andrew. You didn't dismiss his post as wrong either, yet you rebutted some of his views with class. Orkun, be aware that agreeing with Andrew makes the righteous super-fans cook in their own oil. This board is great because of the variety of opinions. I would hate for this to turn into Mariah Daily. Ever since they sold their soul to the "perfect Mariah" image, their site went down the rabbit hole. Eric, thanks for allowing all kinds of news and comments to be posted according to your rules, that's why MCArchives is still popular 17 years later. You've allowed balance, and I appreciate that. I know in the eyes of the super-fans, you are a duck for posting all kind of news about Mariah, and for allowing comments from fans like Andrew, but guess what, we're still here 17 years later. Merry Christmas to you, and thank you again.

Marcus / Beacon Theater (48,665) by Edward from USA
Marcus, it's amazing you're flying from Brazil to NY to support Mariah, and on two consecutive nights. Congratulations. I hope you have a great time. It's cold here in NY, so get yourself a coat.

Warrior Butterfly / backward-compatible (48,638) by Edward from USA
Warrior Butterfly, I've always thought the exact same thing. When Mariah was in her 20's her songs had more depth, not only lyrically, but also melodically. It was as if she'd started on reverse. Songs like Looking In, Butterfly, Outside, Petals, and Mariah's Theme were insightful and introspective. Once those childhood and Tommy issues were lyrically addressed, she then allowed her inner 12 year old child out, and the little girl refused to go back in, lol. It is the same thing that happened to Alanis Morissette, she was only 20 when she released Jagged Little Pill, but as soon as she'd released her angst through her first three albums, her fans thought she had lost her edge. "MIAMTEC" is a great album, but I've often wondered what "The Art Of Letting Go" album sounded it like before it morphed into "The Elusive Chanteuse". There's not another song similar to "The Art of Letting Go" on "MIAMTEC".

Marissa / isn't it annoying? (48,621) by Edward from USA
Marissa, your last post was spot on. If you criticize Mariah, you're not a fan or a positive one, or you are a duck. Once the "Mariah's voice is in great shape and always has been" surfaced on this board, I realized that whoever said it wasn't ever going to look at Mariah's career with objectivity. So, while some praise how Mariah has improved lately, the same people forget what prompted that improvement. She improved because people complained and voiced their discontent. If it were for the "all is right in Mariah's camp" positive lambs, the media would be eating Mariah alive, because they would still be telling Mariah that her first "Elusive Show" was to die for. Mariah has had a rude awakening with this social media era, cellphones, the internet. The dubbing days are gone. It's sad it happened at this point in her career, but the time for consistency has come, and she's been giving us that with these Christmas shows.

All I Want For Christmas / Billboard (48,618) by Edward from USA
AIWFCIY moves ten places from #50 to #40 on Billboard Hot 100. Most likely it'll peak in the mid 20's by next week. The song is sitting pretty at #32 on the iTunes 100 songs. I can't wait for Sunday where I'll finally see Mariah again after some many years.

Baby / the super positive one (48,614) by Edward from USA
TJ, a fan who's been coming here for 16 years, and who very rarely posts was the one who saw how angry your approach is. Just like him, I do also think that you come across as self-righteous and angry. You make your points as if they were facts, and most times you're condescending. I personally think there is not an iota of objectivity in your posts, you sound like a broken record regurgitating the greatness of Mariah Carey, but dismissing any opinion others might have that differ from your point of view. Picking the names of some fans that you think agree with you to elevate yourself as the righteous one, and those who don't agree are baptized by you as ducks. If you haven't noticed, many of your posts have been given the [...] treatment for God knows what. In your La-la Land bubble where Mariah is the queen, you've created your own dictatorship, where obviously criticism is not allowed. I might not always agree with some fans here, but I've never question their fanhood, calling them ducks. If there's an angry duck here, it's you. Now, on a more positive note: Merry Christmas, baby please come home.
