Obviously medicated (108,846)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I have no experience with such medication. But what you write sounds horrible. My mum had some pain killers who had sedated side effects too. It was scary and I was happy when she didn't need it anymore. A human soul and body takes time to heal, too much medication is not good.

Obviously medicated (108,845)
by Carlos from Brazil

I think it's really safe to say that she is using medication. I used to take some anti depression remedies and it really kinda "takes your soul out". It's necessary for the case, in terms of "you need it to get better" to a certain point and then maybe reduce or get rid of it when you get well but it really lets you on a deplorable state. You just go through life and the emotions like it's nothing. Mariah's last answer to the reporter when asked about what a popstar like Katy has to do when you get hate or something really tells it all. She said "don't pay attention and move on". I think she hasn't really stopped and thought about her situation: her voice, the lost of her family. It's like she just thinks "let's move on" and then she just goes through life.

This is not good news. I remember how it all started with the press in 2001. Mariah shouldn't risk another burn-out. And then all the touring. I'm worried too.

The return of the voice (108,835)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
Yes, I'm also hungry for new music. I was surprised about the "Mimi sessions". It was honest. I wish we could get one more time lyrics like on the [Butterfly] album or [Charmbracelet]. I still think a jazz album would fit well plus some soulful grooves. But I also hope Mariah is okay. We all know it was too much the last year. Of course legends are only human, like someone has [already] written on this board. I hope Mariah will recover and feel good again. Happiness and health is all I want for her.

If MC can create the Mimi Sessions, why can't she record an album for the Lambily? I want to hear new songs to hear what she sounds like in 2025 with new technology, engineering, and instrumentation. It would help us not be so critical and possibly give us better insight through her lyrics what being Mariah Carey is like right now. I want my Butterfly MC back who gave the Lambily new music and MC's story through her lyrics. We deserve a new album after seven years.

Yes and it's ridiculous "avoiding wrinkles". There is no avoiding with nature. A healthy lifestyle is good, luck with the genes and that's it. And people who age relaxed are the best. They have the best charisma. To be fit and healthy (as good as it's possible) should be the goal.

I never understood the love for this "new" nickname too. MC sounds cool. Mariah is such a beautiful name. I remember how I was wondering in 95 who the Fantasy singer on the radio was. When I heard the name Mariah I loved it so much. Mariah Carey best name.

The Emancipation of "Who?"
Are we ever going to sit down and talk about how Mariah just woke up one day, said "Call me Mimi", and the entire world ate that shit up? Child please, who exactly was calling you that before 2005? That nickname was never uttered by any of her close friends during any of her most memorable eras. But suddenly it's "The Emancipation of Mimi" and we all ate it up like it was a fresh batch of hot tamales. Maybe is right there on her birth certificate: Mimi Carey, possibly born in 1970.
Iconic? Absolutely, but Mimi please.

Tommy book (108,667)
by Jamie from UK

I've just started reading Tommy Mottola's book from the point he met Mariah. Still got some to go but I was loving the part where he went down to the woodshop after Mariah said come down and meet Ben Marguiles. He says when he got there he was faced with Mariah singing. He said she was good on the demo but to hear her sing there in the woodshop studio was incredible and her voice was so powerful. It gave me goose bumps imagine witnessing that. He said it was then that he noticed her flirting with him and he had to speak to his therapist about her as he felt he was falling in love with her. I can't wait to read some more tonight.

Daydream (108,658)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
It's an interesting thought. Who really knows what was going on behind "closed doors"? I do believe Tommy wasn't so hapyy with Daydream (Fantasy, remix with Da Brat, the house remix "Daydream interlude" on the album and of course "Looking in"). But because of the extreme commercial success around the world (Daydream went to number one in almost every country) plus the records from the US charts, he must be pleased at last. The Grammy would have been the cherry on the cake at that time.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (108,633)

Mariah Carey is actually still very current and still for the most part, a current star still breaking records and creating new ones. Yes her name does at its mention, remind people of the staggering success she's had and a long fruitful career too. However I do agree and see it from their perspective, and I also notice the Hall of Fame is kinda a retirement home for old stars or groups that have made their mark and to say it nicely, burnt out or even worse, no longer with us. Mariah still has at least one more big era in her; that woman is not quite done yet and they know this. She'll have her moment for sure, just not now.

Article: What else does the Hall of Fame want from Mariah? (108,636)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
I still don't understand how the Daydream Grammy debacle was happening? Tommy was still behind her at the peak of the success, was it simply the envy? Céline also married a powerful man from the music business. I always think Mariah was too perfect for some people. The look (a beauty like a supermodel), her magical aura, her earned wealth, the Mariah mania around the globe during that time, chart breaking records and last but not least of course the best, most unique voice ever. The "Cinderella story" from the press must have caused envy without end.

Mariah singing Thriller (108,609)
by MusicfanJ from Germany

I wish there was a duet with Micheal from the 90ies. It would have been outstanding. I just remember the charity song "What more can I give". Anyone else? The 80ies and 90ies were so fanstatic with all the real musicians, many genres and stars who were unique. Maybe Mariah could do a another cover from MJ. (Not just a sample.)

I am in the same category. Mariah Carey 1990-1996 just killed. Those lyrics, that voice. Listening to the live versions of her debut album is just out of this world. Her voice changed on every album, and I was "scared" back in '97 when she released Butterfly. The voice that we knew was gone. I don't think fans or lambs post 2000 understand what kind of artist she used to be. I'm just glad to have experienced the extreme power that she had at the time.
At some point she has to get rid of her stilettos, swimsuits, gowns and the newly rich trash style, and use normal clothes and flat shoes. I guess she would look better in stuff from HM than what she wears now.
My dream is that she is going acoustic and simple on stage, like the unplugged concert. Lose the attitude, kill the inner diva and be a humble human being. Be real. She shouldn't try to sing the songs like she used to, but in a way that fits her voice.
Peace out. And have fun at the beach.

MiMi20 CD (108,569)
by Bill from the UK
| |
|

Playing vinyl on a cheap turntable with a cheap stylus actually damages the vinyl over time, so playing it on a cheap player from the 1950s, or any cheap player for that matter, is not a good idea. It is a medium that only deteriorates with age unless it is treated with utmost care, and that requires a decent turntable and stylus.
While many find the analogue audio experience rich and warm, a compact disc played through a decent hifi set up (with a Digital to Audio (DAC) converter) will sound absolutely fantastic, and a Super Audio CD played on a player designed for that medium is unbeatable. Couple that with a decent pair of speakers and you'll never look back. CDs are far from a dead medium, as all manufacturers continue to make players to this day. CDs provide the best quality audio available without any depreciation in quality and without clicks, pops and scratches that will invade an uncared for vinyl record over time.
As for streaming, unless it is a CD-quality streamer (Tidal, Qobuz) I wouldn't bother, as so much of the music is compressed and sacrificed on streamers like Spotify (the McDonalds of music streamers). Plus as you point out, with the exception of Qobuz, you cannot own and keep the digital music files and they run the risk of being removed or, possibly worse, amped up and compressed to compete with the "loudness wars".
TLDR: CDs are good.

Buttery tone (108,441)
by MusicfanJ from Germany
| |
|
|
Mariah has indeed the most buttery tone I've ever heard. It made me fall in love with her voice during Daydream. Here are some examples:
Vision of love, Vanishing, Alone in love, Love takes time, And you don't remember, Can't let go, If it's over, So blessed and TTEOT buttery at it's best , Endless love, Music box, Never forget you, Without you, Just to hold you once again, All I've ever wanted, EFA (out of this world), My prayer, Open arms, Melt away, I am free, When I saw you, Forever, My all, Close my eyes, Whenever you call, After tonight, Lead the way, I only wanted, Joy ride, For the record, Languishing.
It's Mariah at her best. When her soulful voice meets that clear buttery tone, that makes you forget everything. It mades me daydreaming all the time, when I listen to these songs.

Again on point Jamie. I absolutely agree with your thoughts. "But my main concern is Mariah herself at the moment." Yes, that's also my concern. Someone wrote on this board, she is so rich and famous, she dosen't care about anything. That may be true, but I do care. A lot of other fans/lambs do care. The question is, is she happy and healthy? All the money in the world can't buy it. There are many exsamples. I just hope she's okay. Next week is celebration week.

Just makin' the most of life (108,405)
by Jamie from UK

I'm under no illusions that she will never be as she was. Being nostalgic doesn't mean you're not aware of the present. My concern is that she's now at a point where she's even far removed from that person than she has ever been, and not even musically. I loved Caution, I even loved I Don't, obviously not the video though lol. I'm concerned and rightly so that something isn't right with her right now. Whether it's medical or something else, who knows, but from an outsiders point of view something is off. My criticism only comes from a place of caring about Mariah, I've remained loyal throughout the years, and have enjoyed all her music. My point is that for the general buying public she became to far removed from the Mariah they fell in love with, I'm personally as a fan not saying that her new music isn't good, she's got some amazing tracks later on in her career. But my main concern is Mariah herself at the moment.
