MC was probably thinking about Circles, I Wish You Knew, Mine Again, Angels Cry, Languishing, Cry, Camouflage, and Portrait type of ballads when she responded to Zane and Ebro.

I think Gamma and Apple have linked up for an album sales strategy that we have never seen done before. Maybe a deluxe edition will only be a iTunes version. Also, someone said on X that the Japanese version always has one extra track.

We are family. Sometimes we may not agree with another board member's opinions or comments. We all care about MC and her career. Let's get ready to experience the new era and get MC back on top. The unveiling of the album title and second single is going to be huge in the coming weeks. The anticipation is higher than any Mariah Carey album ever before. Let's put our differences aside and get ready for this era.

That is funny. I pressed you on this before but you ran away and hibernated. Let me recap what you said, verbatim: "Mariah's voice being damaged beyond repair to the point that a number of us unprofessionals on this board can probably sing 'Hero' better than she can and with no lipping."
"A number of us" so you've appointed yourself a part of some imaginary choir of amateurs who can outsing one of the most technically revered vocalists in music history. Tremendously bold claim. Since you said this your chest, you at least must be a willing representative of the group to back it up, right?
So let's just hear it. Debunk my insinuation that you're out of touch. If you're confident enough to dismiss quite literally the greatest vocalist of all time, a quick vocal clip should be a walk in the park. Or are you just going to go on hibernation again?

MC16 is done. MC16 will have 11-12 songs. There are Mariah ballads. The second single is coming soon. It is very summery and MC loves the beat. I am not complaining, but why just 11-12 songs? Is that an industry standard these days to increase the chances of individual songs streamed to increase album sales?

Three voices, one problem (109,537)
by Bobby A from United States

Most of the board members are really disappointed in the song. I am disappointed in it too after multiple listens. It grabbed at my heart on Friday, but today I find it boring. I believe MC16 is going to blow our minds. If the producers on Usher's Coming Home is our L.A. Reid blueprint, then we can be hopeful for production by Mel and Mus, Ghost-Kid, D'Mile, Jermaine Dupri, along with MC's usual go to "hot producers at the moment" strategy like Bizness Boi, Jack Antonoff, Jeff Gitelman, Julian Bunetta and London Da The Track. I am pretty sure Donald Lawrence produced the Clark Sisters duet. I know Anderson .Paak brought his A game on MC16. So, we should not be worried at all by what to expect on MC16. It is going to be bigger than Caution and MIAM for sure.

Three voices, one problem (109,533)
by Edward from USA

Lyrics got written, music was produced and then a demo was made. Barbra most likely recorded the entire song by herself. Then, the parts that Ariana and Mariah were meant to sing were stripped from the demo and sent for them to fill in the blanks. Of course the original demo was also sent to use as reference. Then, Walter later stitched it all together.
So no, these ladies were never in the studio at the same time. It's pretty standard these days and even easier with technology. Mariah prefers laying her vocals alone with her recording engineer. Ariana lays her vocals in a completely dark booth.
Could this be considered as a Mariah and Walter collabo? No, in my humble opinion. In 99% of their collabos, Mariah wrote the lyrics and had the melody in her head, then Walter would put that melody into music and produced it.

I hope MC16 brings this year full circle for MC. If I was a part of her team deciding MC16's rollout, I would say this at the meeting.
1. Release two singles at the same time with videos ready to go on their release day. One should be an uptempo jam and the other should be the Clark Sisters' gospel song. August 8th. Drop the uptempo remix with Cardi B on August 15th with a video. 2. Announce that MC16 will drop in 30 days. September 12th. Sell 7" versions of the new singles on her website along with album variations and special bundles with fan surprises. 3. Give interviews and performances on the morning news and late night talk shows during the 30-day promotional period. Do radio station drop ins in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Nashville. Give Rolling Stone, Billboard and Ryan Seacreast interviews. 4. Drop MC16 on the same day as Ed Sheeran's new album on September 12th. Give him some competition on that day. Be the closing artist for the summer concert series on the Today Show or Good Morning America on September 12th. 4. Be ready to perform the two new singles during her iHeart Music Festival performance. 5. Perform on SNL's fall season premiere episode. 6. Announce a world tour for 2026.

Considering this song is highly reminiscent of 90s adult contemporary music, I was expecting more. There was definitely room here for "All I Ever Wanted" style vocals from all of them. Mariah held back to her own detriment. It feels like these three were never in the same studio. It's like they all recorded their individual parts from their home studios and then emailed them to Walter A to sew together. If these three could have gotten together and arranged their vocals with each other, this could have become something special. It just feels very bland unfortunately.

I don't like it. Here's the thing. I knew it would be a ballad from the 90s. I knew it would feel "crowded". And I do think it's genius how he interchanged them throughout the verses. I am a Mariah Carey fan and what's most important to me is a lyric. Then the vocal. Then the arrangement. The lyrics are both banal and generic. It's not a song that needed to be written. It's been written before. I feel as though this is one of the songs sung before a Super Bowl national anthem with young girls from around the world tryna count steps with lame choreography. It belongs at the end of a really bad movie where the credits are more entertaining than the plot. My favorite person on this board woke me up out my sleep with a text for this? It's just Another Trite Hope Song rackin my brain like crazy.

Agree. I was hoping for a whistle note going into the final chorus, sort of a cherry on top. Of course we are going to want MC to shine a bit more. However, MC fans need to recognize this is Barbara's [sic] song ft MC and AG. She is a guest artist. I like the song, its message. It's definitely a throw back to the early 90s for Mariah. Beautiful voices.

I think that MC subtly posted a picture this week in front of her platinum records that she had returned to studio to record some more songs for MC16. MC wants a number one song on the Hot 100 again with MC16. TD falling off the Hot 100 has made her team go back to the board room for MC's next steps to release MC16. She has never said before that she had been locked away in the studio working her behind off. I hope she gets what she wants this time with her 16th album release like a couple of number one songs and new Grammy Awards. I believe if she makes her next single a song that is stripped back from her glamorous life and is just a song people can relate to, then she will have her 20th number one song. I hope she is taking note to my several X messages this week. MC hasn't blocked me yet after my #Can'tLetGoOfLoveTakesTime message.

Because Mariah literally said (through Gamma) that she wants to surpass The Beatles record. I don't understand why fans even question that Mariah is not obsessed with chart numbers. She literally gets annoyed when people miscount her #1s and reminds people of her song of the decades. I'm not saying she shouldn't, she earned it but I am just surprised when fans think that Mariah doesn't care about it.

I hope for the other songs on MC16 is that MC has more relatable lyrics that her audience can relate to. Lyrics with themes like love and a broken heart, finding love, losing love, being happy and in love, and having a good time. This is why Morgan Wallen's album has multiple songs on the Hot 100 right now. His whole album has songs that his audience can relate to in their own lives.

Return to the studio (109,453)
by Jamie from UK

I just think she's at a point in her career where she isn't gonna have big hits anymore. She got more attention than most legacy artists do but it's just the way it is I'm afraid. Even Cher's Believe moment probably wouldn't happen in today's music climate. I think she did extremely well on those other charts in the USA but for the Hot 100 I think those days are long gone. I might be proved wrong but people just don't buy or stream legacy artists as much, that doesn't take away from Mariah's efforts or artistry, it's just how it is. Everyone has their peak moment and then ultimately comes the slump whether what you're putting out is good or bad. I'm really interested to see the Barbra trio and what MC16 brings but at this point I don't think we should be expecting a huge return to the charts for Mariah. Her image and persona is on point at the moment and I can tell a lot of work has been going in to protecting that and building up the public's view of her. But that's gonna take time, a lot has happened over the years to make people turn away. The best thing that can happen now is for this to continue to protect her legacy and image, and if she gives us new music then even better.

It looks like TD fell off the Hot 100 this week. Okay, no WBT clone as the second single. I hear the Lambs. I say that MC should return to the studio and record five more songs with the likes of Rodney Jerkins, Ghost-Kid, and Mel and Mus and drop MC16 in September. Send MC a message on X with your collaboration requests. I sent my Rodney Jerkins and Sza collaboration request yesterday. What Sza and Rodney Jerkins did with Shirt is the type of song MC needs to launch MC16.

35 years in the game (109,434)
by Edward from USA

Bobby A, unfortunately, Mariah has her age working against her in today's music scene. For something to really take off as per some people's expectations here, she would have to pull a "Believe" moment like Cher did. I personally like and appreciate what we've gotten so far, but "TD" is not that moment.
With short attention spans these days and everything being so instantly accessible, a song has to hit right away to make an impact. It's a different game now.
Being a legacy artist doesn't help much either. Radio rarely supports older artists, a song from them would have to be twice as great as the next one. There's no real formula for a hit, even great music can flop. At the end of the day, it all depends on whether the general public connects with it, especially the younger crowd who drive most of the streaming. The music needs to feel current and cool to them.
I've said it before, Mariah helped so many people when she was on top. It's time for a big name to return the favor and boost one of her projects. She deserves it.

I am sure MC and L.A. Reid have listened to what she has sequenced so far and he probably has suggested that MC return back to the studio and record some more songs. What if TD was a test single to guage how listeners would react. I give their reaction a 7, but a 10 is needed to launch MC16. I found it odd that we didn't find out the album title and release date on June 6th if she was sequencing the album.

I see some of you are obsessing over chart positions. Remember that Gamma doesn't have a magic wand to make things happen. They can do their part, but remember that "Caution" was released seven years ago. It's not like she's been gaining tons of new fans since then.
Streaming is an indication of where things are going. The video for TD has been out for seven days and it is sitting at barely 1.7M views. The blaming game most of us like to play when things are not going as expected with Mariah is kind of getting tired now.
At this point, the only way TD gets a boost is if they drop a hot remix with a current artist. As I have stated, I like TD and I'm just hoping the album delivers something solid overall. But let's not pretend this is another "It's Like That".
Mariah's been in the game for 35 years, so I don't have unrealistic expectations. If she wants a real hit, she's gonna have to actually sing and come with something stronger. With that being said, I'm totally fine with what she's given us so far, song and video included.

I sure hope L.A. Reid said to MC that she needs 2-3 JD songs on MC16. Without JD's involvement, MC16 may not attract new listeners especially those new listeners in Atlanta. Atlanta listeners have posted some negative comments on Facebook about Type Dangerous and her BET performance. Anyway, JD's bounce has been on fire lately with Ari Lennox's Pressure and Soft Girl Era and Muni Long's Made For Me. MC16 needs another WBT moment. I can't help wearing my manager hat on Fridays. Lol. The next ten Fridays are going to be crucial for MC and MC16's success. There are too many artists getting ready to drop their projects during the next three months.

I think there's no doubt Mariah could create another great ballad like WBT. It's just that a "hit" doesn't depend solely on songwriting. A great video, solid marketing with radio/tv/streaming, etc., good promotion including collaboration with platforms (twitter/tiktok/youtube) are all factors in making a hit.

Yes, Type Dangerous is slowing down in the States too. Gamma is going to need to release a ballad as the second single to properly launch MC16 after gauging what One Heart One Voice will do on the radio and charts. By the way, I wonder why none of the already released singles from Barbra's new album have not charted or received any radio airplay. There has not really been any promotion for her album at all.

I can't view it for some reason but if it's that TikTok account which "leaked" two "demos" one being velvet smoke or something and the other a song similar to "bitch I'm Mariah" I hated both. Mariah would never do those lyrics and it was too shouty. I think they're keeping tight leash on the material and won't allow leaks.

Release (109,394)

Sony is doing what Ed Sheeran and Ariana Grande have done in the past by releasing their album's biggest song simultaneously with the album. By the way, J. Valentine did another episode of his R&B Money Podcast yesterday and he said that he got an early listen of MC16. He said that MC16 is fire and jammin. J. Valentine said that MC has something for her core audience, the young people, and a gospel record that would be the number one gospel record in the world. The gospel record has to be the song that Dorinda Clark-Cole spoke about that she and her sisters did with MC in 2023. I believe we will have an album title and release date within a couple of weeks after One Heart One Voice is released.

So apparently Barbra has now released 3 singles from the album already. First with Hozier, second with Paul McCartney and third with Laufey. I suppose the Mariah and Ariana song (since you technically cant call it a duet) is the most anticipated and they didn’t want to release it before the album. I wonder if it will actually get the single treatment. Just 10 more days until we get to hear it.

I just don't understand why these special playlist deals are even allowed to be a part of chart ranking determination. The special playlist deal really set up Sabrina Carpenter to debut at #1 on the Hot 100. It is chart manipulation to the fullest. Hopefully, Mimi will continue to rise on the Hot 100 during the next 5 weeks. I hope the remix is on the way with a high profile rapper.
