I wonder why MC has stopped posting pics of who she is working with in the studio. I wonder if Poo Bear posting that he and MC were 10 songs in rubbed her the wrong way. She never said publicly prior Caution being released who she had been in the studio with.

Lol. I didn't catch that she replied to herself. It has been one exhausting week for some of us. The Hot 100 chart news was devastating today. Somebody unearthed Crustella after Tanaka's and MC's breakup announcement to the media. Even I messed up bad this week and had to post my sincere apology. No more relationship analysis from me again. I will never be Dr. Phil. Cheers to the new year. I am ready for 2024.

Stella (104,712)

Do you really think that was the case? I think MC was not making sound business decisions from 2014-2018. She let Stella be too much in her personal life. Those years were very turbulent for MC. The whole James Packer engagement and break-up was a disaster. Crustella was too controlling of a manager for someone as legendary as MC. Whitney would not have given someone like Stella the time of day.

The only good thing about Conturella's reign of terror was the lesbian vibes she brought to the House of Carey. Conturella was so empowered, it was like she was going to hump on Mariah at anytime. It was hot.

The Stella/Mishka storyline during MC's life story would be a screenwriter's goldmine. Meryl Streep and Mayim Bialik could play the dynamic duo. Let's throw in Zac Efron to play Tanaka.

Right. She doesn't need Stella back. What MC needs is a songwriter/producer partner like Jack Antonoff or Ilya. Both of them have done wonders for Taylor's and Ariana's careers. He or she has to understand MC as the legendary artist that she is today. I would love to see Robert Glasper or James Poyser become her songwriting partners. If she wants any Grammy nominations or awards in 2024, she is going to have to step out of her comfort zone. A duet with Howard Hewett or Peabo Bryson would set the R&B world on fire and garner her the recognition from the Grammy committee that she has never received.

Y'all must really be trolling because when Stella was in charge of Mariah's business Mariah's image was down in the gutters. It took years for RocNation to build her back up to the legend status that she truly should have been all along. Stella really had her going around LA in her damn bodysuits and put her in a reality show that was a through and through mess. Also not y'all out here missing a thief who stole from Mariah. Bye. Mariah doesn't need Stella's chunky highlighter and cheap leather jackets in her world. I'd rather her not be "relevant".

Cool response from Adele. I like her even more that she doesn't feel the need to do a trend for some kids. I get sick if I just hear the word Tik Tok. Lol. I hope Mariah will do her thing without that stupid app too. Good music is needed, nothing more. The best thing about a certain age and mature is that you don't have to follow all stupid trends. A grown-up is above those things.

I heard last week on a Top 40 radio morning talk show that they split because he wanted kids and MC didn't. I guess he told someone and it was leaked to the media. We got the statement today after the concerts ended probably at MC's request. I said years ago that there was going to be pressure on Tanaka to give his mother some grandchildren. No straight man is going to stay with a woman who has no desire to give him any children. That is the reason Sofia Vargara and Joe Manganiello divorced.

Bryan released a statement confirming what we've all probably already knew at this point that they broke up. This was one of her longest relationship and even though at first I didn't ship them (I thought it was Stella's influence and also that Mariah was in a vulnerable state and needed that confidence boost of dating someone hot and young) but over the years they seemed really happy. I never saw Bryan try to use his relation with Mariah to be more relevant/famous. Their relation seemed quite strong because Stella tried to break them up but eventually got fired. The breakup probably happened earlier in the year because Mariah was saying last Christmas was a very bad time for her. Rumor is that they separated because Bryan wanted a family but Mariah didn't (and I don't blame her, her pregnancy was difficult and I'm sure her priorities are different as she already has 2 kids).

Merry Christmas Lambs. MC's voice sounds amazing. She is going to surprise us with a new album that is going to make the Lambs proud. Something inside tells me that she has signed with UMG. Plus, Britton Nelson (UMG) was the AR Manager for the It's A Wrap vinyl release. It would make perfect sense for MC to return back to Def Jam for MC16. By the way, our Music Box Anniversary merchandise will be arriving in 5 weeks.

I really like this one, I know no comparison to her other [Christmas] songs. But I think it's really fun and I like that "Run Run Rudolph" Rock and Roll vibe. Stacey, just ask yourself if Say Somethin' could have paved the way for WBT in the same way? ILT was the party record that TEOM needed as the lead single. It said that Mariah Carey was back. A January release date and a delayed video caused it to stall at number 16.

Mariah Carey in the UK (104,559)
by Andrew from the UK
| |
|
|
Having taken off with I'll Be There, not until the Memoirs era did Mariah drop from being a pretty steady Top 10 artist. There were certainly some blips along the way, most notably releasing Butterfly as a single but Mariah for many many years was a mainstream radio listed artist. However, I'd agree that she became the source of much derision after she took her clothes off in 1997. Nobody wanted it from her. This emerging vanity aspect of her personality was quite off-putting to British people. The Heartbreaker Remix and Loverboy videos did maximum damage to her profile as did the expanding breasts which started ignoring each other sometime around 1998 into 1999.
It does all strike me as possibly a little bit unfair. Women - and girls, even - were treated very differently back then, such were the times that they would often be asked about their breasts in interviews. There is a video on YouTube of it happening to Britney when she was about 17 years old and it is uncomfortable viewing.
But with Mariah I believe she was very respected as a top-tier vocalist and she was, at the very essence of her being, a solid-bet of a hitmaker - the "Songbird Supreme", no less. That she had achieved this through sheer talent won her many fans who became confused at her need to add sex and sexuality to her career. It smacked of desperation and she was somewhat "slut-shamed".
I cannot help but often wonder what Mariah's career would be like if it was taking off in this day and age. Almost certainly she would not have endured the ridicule for having a mental health crisis but, rather, I would hope she would be, or have been, treated a lot more sympathetically.
Regardless of whataboutery, the success of her singles and her popularity whenever she visited the UK cannot be diminished and it serves to emphasise that if she has the right material and promotion she will be successful. Unfortunately, in terms of both, she has had neither for well over a decade now. The Sweet Sweet Fantasy tour needs to hit the road again.
N.b. Sorry for the essay, J-L, but I do suffer from insomnia. I gotta get me some sleep. Also, check out the chart-placing of "Obsessed", I don't recall it underperforming like that.

Thank you Jamie. That was such a thoughtful and understandable response. That's how I've seen and understood it tbh. Much of the UK don't understand or relate to her post Butterfly. I personally didn't relate to Mariah until Charmbraclet (I was in grade 11 at the time). I remember Mariah being the hottest artist in my grade 9 year (from a Canadian perspective), which was Heartbreaker era. Before that she was "Mom's music". Then when I went to uni, everyone was obsessed with TEOM album, and then during the E=MC2 era every queer club in the country was blasting Mimi. After those impressionable life moments, me and my friends have been buckled in for the ride.

It's funny how Mariah made Christmas cool and now everyone wants in on the moment, but clearly she's the only one who's genuine about her love for the holidays. It would be crazy if for some strange reason, another song in her holiday canon suddenly gains steam and hits number 1. This would mean a tie with The Beatles. . I see it happening for "Oh Santa" down the road.

I think Brenda's song appearing in the film Home Alone augmented its appeal to American audiences. Personally, I think Mariah's song is way better. Hopefully RATCT won't stay at #1 too long. There are other more deserving holiday songs.
I would love to see Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run", Charles Brown's "Please Come Home for Christmas", or Darlene Love's "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" hit number one. Though I think Mariah's cover of Darlene's song greatly improves on it.
