About Robert-Anthony from United States:
I have been a Lamb since 1990. I know Mariah. I love her music. I breathe her music.

My favorite video that he directed was Boy. He made MC look so pretty with the pink and blue colors. Joseph Kahn is just a great video director.

Yes, Brett did some of her greatest videos and then we got this. Same with Joseph Kahn and #Beautiful (also don't get me started on the missed opportunity with that song). Anyways so Joseph Kahn directed some of Taylor's videos and they were all so high quality. #Beautiful was not it. It was so repetitive of Mariah spinning around and the clear as day green screen motorcycle scenes. I really hope in her new projects they have a solid visual team.

I often wonder what a Ty Tribbett and Mariah Carey collaboration would sound like. I love his gospel song Only One Night Tho. He came up with this song on the spot during a concert. He's innovative and has millions of fans who sing his songs. I am going tweet them both this morning for a collaboration.

Same. There's a reason why LA Reid is a successful record exec. ILT, SIO, and WBT are hawt. Radio hadn't been kind to MC for years since Rainbow. But when TOEM was released, radio had to play it (aka WBT.) That song is so good, radio was forced to play it. MC can strike gold again. Just put out good music and promote it.

Everyday I thank LA Reid for telling Mariah to go back and record with JD hahah after she had initially completed TEOM without ILT, WBT, SIO and GYN. WBT is the most perfect song, masterpiece that should be studied but would have been a mess if it was just whispers.

New album (105,732)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|

Great post Jamie. After reading your post, I immediately thought of Sza and her ability to create these radio friendly songs that receive huge radio impressions despite Sza not having a great voice. Checkout Good Days, I Hate You, Shirt, Kill Bill and Snooze. If MC can create radio friendly songs with a nice beat without heaving belting and swooping runs, then she will do just fine with MC16. I am going to feel like a kid on Christmas day when I hit the play button on my new Mariah Carey album. At this point I don't care if I hear some vocal imperfections the new album. I just want an album that is fun and has quality music.

by Jamie from UK

I think she's just gonna have to go with it, I feel there's never a great time to release albums especially when you're up against all the latest trends. I think she should just release a great album and what will be will be. But we need a great promotion strategy, plenty of appearances, interviews and a lead song that's gonna grab the attention of radio. It's so much harder with the older artists to get the radio airplay that they need, but I'm hoping Mariah has a great album up her sleeve. I loved Caution, But we need some more uptempo tracks with a lighter carefree sound.

I see now. It does sound perfect on those parts. I remember that VOL performance. I felt so bad for MC when she sang it, but she pushed through a song she wrote in such a high key and with all of those runs 30 years ago. I was mistaken about ITC. She performed it on the Fashion Rocks primetime special in 2008.

It's the usual playback: the most demanding parts. In "I Don't": the chorus "'Cause when you love someone, you just don't treat them bad..." and the final belting part. I mean, the parts sung perfectly well. She did a really good job on both occasions and her voice was in a really good condition at that time.
Another impressive performance was VOL at Jimmy Kimmel. By the way, I don't know which "I'm That Chick" performance you're referring to.

Biggest vs. smallest tours (105,722)
by Robert-Anthony from United States
| |
|
|
What are your thoughts about MC's top 5 biggest and smallest tours? Which ones did you attend? Which tour do you wish you had attended? Are you attending one of her The Celebration of Mimi shows in April? Do you think MC is on the same level as Beyonce and Taylor Swift in terms of being able to sell out a huge stadium tour?
The Angels Advocate Tour was only one that I attended a show in Atlanta. I wish that I had attended one of the Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour shows. I saw some great videos of MC performing songs that she had never performed live before.
Top 5 Biggest Tours 1. Charmbraclet World Tour - 69 shows 2. The Adventures of Mimi - 40 shows 3. Caution World Tour - 35 shows 4. The Sweet Sweet Fantasy Tour - 31 shows 5. The Angels Advocate Tour - 23 shows
Top 5 Smallest Tours 1. The Australian Tour - 3 shows 2. Music Box Tour/Daydream World Tour - tie - 7 shows each 3. Butterfly World Tour - 11 shows 4. Rainbow World Tour - 19 shows 5. The Elusive Chanteuse Show - 20 shows

Yes, and remix ends up at #12 on Hot 100 (105,710)
by Robert-Anthony from United States

Ariana's team waited 4 weeks too late to release the remix. It seems like somebody on her team really didn't think the remix was good enough to release a week after the original and make a video. I hope MC is able to get her own high profile collaboration out this year. I would love a SZA and Summer Walker collaboration just like Whitney ft. Faith Evans and Kelly Price on Heartbreak Hotel. It's going to be interesting what happens with MC16 before the AIWFCIY season starts.

JWho apparently spent 20 million of her own money to create a visual album. Now I haven't seen the visuals neither have I heard the album so I don't know much about it. I hear it's average but that's a really ambitious project. It didn't do great sales wise but like I said still ambitious. The way Mariah writes her songs sometimes you can envision them (like BGK, Babydoll, Crybaby etc) so I would really love a visual album from Mariah. Where she hires creative people to help her out with strong visuals. I wish she'd be willing to take that ambitious project on. Also I was hoping MC releases her album sooner that later, the more she'll delay the lesser attention it'll get. I still think she's got more hits in her just need to have the right collaborations whether it's other writers or other artists.

Did Mariah not say on numerous occasions "I owe it all to the fans"? Well that works both ways I'm afraid when you put yourself in the public domain. You have to earn people's respect and give your fans what they want. Do whatever you like in your personal life but when it comes to your fanbase they have invested a lot of time in her as an artist and only want the best from her. I wasn't negative about her latest release with Ariana, I actually praised it. But I appreciate it's not everyone's favourite, I'm not gonna sit here and type your all something else for not like it as I accept everyone has a difference in opinions. From your post you think Mariah should just do mediocre performances from now on, and everyone should just say that's ok it's Mariah she's allowed to, she doesn't care about that stuff. And again that's fine you're entitled to your opinion, but remember a lot of us have an opinion to you and that's ok too. Ps I sang this back to myself just so you know some of us can sing.

This is suppose to be a Mariah fan board, all I've seen is negative uncalled for opinions on Mariah and her voice, you guys think she's a robot? I recently saw a video of twitter spaces, some lamb had the balls to tell Mariah that every time she performs the lambs wonder if she will hit a g7 or how high she will go. Meanwhile this lamb works at Burger King but thinks he knows everything about her voice. I noticed this was her last time on twitter spaces. You guys are ruining this for her, y'all don't know anything about her voice or what's going on, have some respect for the woman who supposedly you say saved your life with her music. I really hope she doesn't release anything new. Why would she? Just for you guys to disect and judge her voice condition. I used to love this board, before all the lambs became vocal teachers.

Her PR. That was the main problem. She was always so nice. I became even bigger fan after 1997. I loved that sound and naughty image. But she kept emphasizing that goody two shoes role instead, for example, calling out Jennifer in an award ceremony for stealing sample for Loverboy. Publicly. Not just shading and whispering. Make a damn scene. Get mad. Not diva mad. Woman mad. Make an angry damn song and spit on everyone. Instead, she had idiotic people around herself spreading rumors that she doesn't walk on carpet, that she wants to be skinny like kids in Africa, being late all the time, demanding puppies in the backstage, being eternally 12 and etc etc. People remember that. And they roll their eyes and move on.

I love your idea. I know that she has some extra outtakes and vocal stems for most of the songs on the remix album. I would love to see David Morales add some "Stereo Experience" mixes for Dreamlover, Fantasy, and Honey like he did for It's Like That and add new club remixes for the radio remixes like My All/Stay Awhile, Heartbreaker ft. Missy Elliot and Da Brat, and ABMB ft. Xscape. I would love a new Butterfly club remix by Disclosure or Salaam Remi. By the way, why hasn't MC worked with Salaam Remi before?

I'm sure this is going to cause a stir here, but I'm here for it. Like a vol 2 of her OG remix album, and add in new ones and new collabs. Come on guys. She is doing exposure if she will collaborate with Cardi or whoever mainstream [censored] there is. Why are the lambs so hyper in being critical? Lets learn to accept that we are way past the prime. We can have opinions yeah but most of the time people are dragging her nearer to the grave. So much for being a lamb. She can't give out what we want or desire vocally/personality/artistic choices. We all act like as if we are her mother. She is an old adult let her be. Btw just living for the music. Persona, career wise I don't care now. Ugh. Why is charting even created? Sad that art needs to be capitalized for money vs the real form for its consumption.

Ohhhh Robert I don't think I've ever disagreed with you on this board, but if MC kept working with Walter, TEOM would never have happened. After Daydream Mariah would have been cemented in the Celine Dion, Barbra Streisand genre. Just like Michael Bubble will forever be in the Frank Sinatra genre. Mariah was lyrically doing art, and vocally doing art during her time with W.A, but I think even though it was amazing, it was commissioned art, not the art for the artist who wanted to express themselves.

I am worried as well. SNL is not a show where viewers accept lipped performances (remember the Ashley Simpson failed backing tracking debacle). The social media will not be too nice the day after. The Distance performed on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in 2019 was her last completely live performance. Can MC do it? Maybe with vocal rest and some hot tea and honey.
Maybe the Cardi B. collaboration is a summer bop and her team is waiting for June or July to unleash to the world. I hope Cardi B pokes fun at Nikki Minaj by calling Mariah's name in her voice the way Nikki Minaj did in Up Out My Face. I am predicting The-Dream co-wrote the collaboration. I haven't predicted in awhile. Lol.

I'm a little worried about how she'll sound (if it is true). It's a lot of strained belting. Let's see how much is going to be live and how much lipped. I hope she puts in the effort to do it justice.

General public or bad decisions (105,612)
by Jamie from UK
| |
|
|
I'm sat here and a thought came into my head regarding Mariah and her career. For the majority of the 1990's Mariah could do no wrong, she was America's sweetheart and had countless number one songs and albums. People took her into their hearts and adored her. From 1997 she made what some call a drastic change in musical direction and lost some of her core fanbase as a result. However she continued to have number one songs and albums even through a difficult time with Sony and Tommy Mottola. Why was it then that during her most difficult time in her life in 2001 did people turn their backs on her? Surely someone who they had grown to love had spent so long adoring her and buying her music would want to support her during this difficult time. Glitter and Charmbracelet failed to sell anywhere near what she would normally sell. My point is, is it the general public who turn on an artist so quickly, is it the music industry and media that set current trends what is a hit and what the people want or is it bad decisions made by Mariah the artist. For me it's just difficult to understand how such a quick switch in popularity can happen with someone who was literally a force of nature at one point. Firstly I don't think the whole Glitter film helped her persona one bit, 9/11 didn't help but the film just wasn't good enough 9/11 or not. The album or soundtrack is great but in hindsight should it have been left on the shelf once the film tanked to help control the damage from the film and save her also having a music flop too which was unheard of at the time. Would her next album then have been more well received by the public. For me I like Charmbracelet but it feels almost like a complete different body of work to the rest of her catalogue (present and past included) the whole vibe is just different. Were bad decisions made by Mariah creatively should she have come back with an upbeat track ala Fantasy/Honey mode and had less rappers on the album, it would be interesting to see if the Glitter album hadn't been released and she had come back with a stronger album (maybe a combination of Glitter tracks and new ones and called it something else) how her popularity would have been at that time and now. Or had the public already turned their backs on her and changed their view of her as a person. Obviously we had Emancipation but that was very short lived, and since then with the exception of Touch My Body and Christmas she hasn't got anywhere near the popularity she should have had. Do you think the general public just doesn't warm to her anymore, is it Mariah's decisions of music creativity or the way her persona has come across post 2001, or do you think it's the music industry making wrong decisions for her career? We can't change what happens but sometimes it's interesting to put a different spin on how we think things could have gone or been. Would love to hear your views and where you think things went wrong or could have been different for her.

It didn't make the top 10 this week. The original is down to #21.

We don't know. It's going to be very very close. The remix should have more points than the original for her to get credit. Both versions together, it is at no.11 and went +49%. Assuming the original dropped like it did last week, then the remix portion of that should be more than 50% already, giving Mariah credit at this point already. There is no way the original went up after the remix is released, unless there is some shady stuff going on behind the scenes. The 3 new remixes released by Ariana's team complicates it slightly, but it's not doing any numbers currently.

It just occurred to me that it was very odd for MC to announce a Vegas resudency in the midst of recording a new album. 90s Mariah would have finished her album, released the first single and then done a residency. Something doesn't seem right after what she has talked about working on for the past 3 years. I am just saying, but what if she doesn't release MC16 this year. The business mind of MC seems to be out of alignment due to something that we are not privy to concerning her voice. Maybe I am wrong and I not really going to be patiently waiting this year.

"Ariana stans aren't 100% on board with the song itself." I'm referring of course to the Yes, And original version.
