About Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter:

Mariah the lyricist (46,268) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Can we just take a moment and be in awe of Mariah's talent as a lyricist? How does this woman go from mature heartfelt, pain filled lyrics like "I cry and cry while you laugh and laugh at the question, but I need to know" to dissing the crap out of a worthless lover "If we were two Lego blocks, even the Harvard graduating class of 2010, couldn't put us back together again". Then she'll get mushy enough to give teenage girls a run for their money (or well "mushy-ness") with a nice "got photos of us on my refrigerator, videos on my phone, boy I can't erase them, the first text I ever got from you still saved in my inbox and I read it time after time". Then she'll unleash the sexy on you "Tonight I'm gonna need all your attention, close the door, I wanna do things I probably shouldn't mention". The she'll make you cry remembering the loved ones you lost "And I assume that you have reached a better place, still I'd give the world to see your face" (that gets me every single time). She'll teach you that even if it's hard you sometimes need to let go of a loved one to see if they loved you enough to come back "Now I understand to hold you, I must open up my hands and watch you rise". And after you are down crying up a mess over lost love, "You'll change your mind and call my name, soon as you find they're all the same and when you find yourself alone, don't come back crying you should have known". When you are feeling super fabulous "them chickens is ash and I'm lotion" and when you are feeling like crap after looking at the mirror "Just be perfectly imperfect". And when you doubt yourself because people say you are not good enough "trying to get me down, but I won't face the ground, I will rise steadily, sailing out of their reach, oh lord they do try, how to make me feel that I, don't matter at all, but I refuse to falter in what I believe" while you spinning around in the apartment like Mariah. (I love CTTA, way more than Hero, it just raise my spirits everytime.) Anyways, I can go on, but my point is, this woman has such diverse songs and especially lyrics, it's like she has so many sides to her, while all the others just talk about how big their booty is and how they would like to be violated (hello Nicki).

Well let's just hope she goes down path number one (I don't care about the skinny part, but hoping she'll get stronger). As for path number two, it may not be something Mariah would do. Apart from 2001, I think Mariah kept her problems really private and dealt with it internally. Also, I think 2001 was a really bad year for her, not just for one but multiple reasons (the after effects of the problems with Rainbow, next, she just left Sony and had a lot of pressure to prove that she doesn't need a music mogul husband to stay at #1, followed by Tommy playing around with her project, then Glitter the movie, with which she probably wanted to make an impact in the movie business, was not going according to plan because she said she got scripts on the day she got to the set and apparently everything was really messy). These are reasons we know, there might have been plenty more. Plus she was young and not thinking straight when she went public with it hoping people will understand but it backfired. She learned her lesson, Mariah is smart enough not to repeat mistakes. But most importantly she is now more matured and has her babies to think about so she won't take any steps to cause them pain or embarassment. It's no longer just about her.

Twisterman (46,252) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Twisterman, oh wow it should be interesting to see if she will actually do it. The timing is bad I admit, but Mariah has known about it for months now (while we just got to be sure yesterday) and while it may still hurt as much as it did in the beginning, she might be in a little more stable state of mind right now than she was when the separation actually happened, especially now since she is ready to go on a tour. I would love it if she does it, and imagine how stunned people will be because they think she is so high-maintenance. But hey, even if she doesn't do it, I don't care, all that matters is that she is healthy and happy. Nick just took the challenge recently, so did a host of big names.

AIWFCIY (46,237) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So I was watching a promo for a currently popular TV show, it's called Pretty Little Liars with a main target audience of teens and young adults I suppose. And in their next episode which will lead on to their Christmas episode to be aired later this year, in the background there was AIWFCIY the original version playing. I am happy to see that. I wish more of Mariah's music was featured as background songs for shows like this so that would get Mariah the attention of the younger audiences (who are the people that mostly buy music nowadays). I saw many artists like Gaga and Beyoncé and many others let shows use their songs because once it gets into the heads of the teenagers they will locate it and buy it and in the process look for more songs in that artist's catalogue. Mariah, God bless her, has an incredible talent that even after 24 years in the business, still manages to write songs that can easily match up and set up trends. She can use shows and movies to get her songs to a more diverse group. Memoirs for instance would have been a teenagers go to album, it's so cute and mushy and romantic. I love Memoirs, it is mature at the same time there is an innocence throughout the album. Other Mariah songs would be equally popular with the younger generation of only they would know about it. E=MC2, Emancipation, Rainbow, Butterfly, Chanteuse. Come on.

Michele part 2 (46,201) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Oh sorry, I re-read your post. You are right men can be equally vulnerable. That's why I used the term "relatively". I do think compared to Mariah, it will be easier for Nick to move on. He's young, fairly rich and charming. Comparing to Nick with Robin Williams will be a mistake. Robin was in his 60s. He already passed the peak in his career and he probably had many reasons to be depressed over. He probably thought there isn't much left for him to live for. Which is sad. Yes, men can me very vulnerable. But I just think, and I stress on it that Mariah is "relatively" more vulnerable. She is gorgeous, she is filthy rich, but for some reason I feel she will be more miserable because this is her second marriage that failed and we all know she feels bad about her parents marriage not working out. I hope you get my point now.

Michele (46,200) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
You may be right, but that's just my opinion. The opinion comes from the fact that Mariah is very insecure about herself. I am not against Nick either. I really do wish them the best. I am a girl myself, I don't believe women are weak. However if it offends you, then I'm sorry. My main point is, I hope they reach a solution where they are both happy. Peace.

A recent completely live version would be the one she sang at Morocco. Because she changed it up a lot and her voice was flawed in it, but that made me love it even more. There were cracks here and there but it sounded so genuine, like she was feeling the song. I really like the ending she did in that version. I also liked the version she sang at Good Morning America, where she was wearing the sparkling powder pink/silver gown, right before singing #Beautiful. She changed up the song and especially the second verse and ending and I loved it. I like hearing changed versions live.

MC and NC (46,191) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
It's really sad to hear the rumors escalating. There might be some truth in it. For the sake of the kids I hope it's not true, but if they are not happy together, there is no use forcing in on a relationship. I honestly thought around the beginning that MC and Nick was a mistake because he was years younger and immature and they got married just few weeks after meeting. But I was more than happy to be proven wrong and to see them together, so happy and so in love, I really did feel that they were meant to be together. I thought MC deserved it after years of being miserable. Now, if they are separating, I hope they do so on friendly terms and things don't get nasty. I do hope Mariah has a good support system around her right now because I believe she is going to be the more vulnerable one here, as she is after all a woman and she is much older. Nick is young and might be able to move on relatively easily. I remember long time back Mariah said that she wouldn't want to marry someone who is in awe of or loves "Mariah Carey" because that's not who she is (meaning at home she isn't the over-the-top diva and superstar). She said the person you see on posters and magazine covers is not really her so she would not want to be with someone who thinks of her like that. But love is weird and she ended up marrying exactly someone she said she wouldn't marry because NC always says MC is his "dream girl". He had a crush on "Mariah Carey". I wouldn't point fingers at anyone, I won't blame either of them. Atleast Mariah experienced love and happiness for a while. She deserved it and she has two beautiful babies, something she might not have had if she didn't marry Nick at that time. She might not have experienced the joy of being a mother at all. And NC seemed to be in love too and he seemed to take good care of her. So I hope people don't turn this into a circus. I am already seeing headlines like "She is difficult to live with" or "He has been cheating on her" or "She has been fooling around with younger guys" or "Nick's big mouth got them divorced". We should let them be alone and sort things out and do what will make them both happy. Best wishes to them both.

Twisterman (46,144) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Did anyone nominate her yet? It would be fun. I think it's highly unlikely that she will do it but if she does, I will be pleasantly surprised. Mariah does surprise once in a while, like the way she wore a long gown in the pool or when she wore the yellow outfit during AI and wore it while swimming in the ocean. I would love it if she takes the challenge.

Good point. I have already accepted that this album is done and over with but every now and then the frustration builds up lol. But no, you are right and I guess I'll get there eventually. As for the lyrics being promised, well you know how iTunes and Mariah had a twitter chat arranged for fans where Mariah was online for a while and fans could send in their questions? Well one of them was about the lyrics not being included and Mariah answered that she is aware of it and that she will be releasing it soon in the manner she wanted to. Now what manner would that be, no one has a clue. It kind of gave rise to the speculation that she maybe doing lyric videos or that like someone wrote here that she is holding back lyrics as a publicity stunt to get fans to go crazy over figuring out what she's saying in the songs and all.

Thank you so much for the sweet post, it was really very nice of you. And I am also glad you understood my point without taking it as a hate message to Mariah. That's all I wanted, that the least Mariah can do is just say anything at all because at the moment her fans are quite confused about what's going on. I completely understand that she may want to spend time with her family, she is human too after all. So just saying that directly would be fine. Most of us want to know what's going on especially since we were told that "there is a plan for this album and even though it started with low sales it will pick up and sell millions" or "there is stuff going on that's bigger than JD and MC and we will get to know about it real soon". All these gave us, or at least me, some hope that maybe there is some plan which is taking time to implement but alas, nothing. Anyways May, thank you again for the post. It really made me happy.

I couldn't have described the situation better than you did. You made really good points and I agree with them. One main reason for my disappointment was that this album was supposedly so personal to her then why let it sink? Like you mentioned, she even put a very personal artwork on the CD, something she didn't do before and now commercially it will be her lowest selling album. Remember how she sometimes just refuses to acknowledge Glitter because it bombed (despite being a gem in its own right). That was one big dent in her career and she sometimes pretends that phase just didn't happen or she regrets it whatever, I didn't want the same for this album. Especially not with so many potential hits like Thirsty, Faded, YDKWTD, Money and so on.

I agree with your post. Even if Beyonce didn't promote the album in the traditional way, she used the advantage of her somewhat innovative idea to boost sales and then went ahead and jumped on a tour. Not only that, she had 17 videos to accompany the songs, giving her enough time to keep people hooked while planning out her next move. Basically, the thing is Beyonce probably knew that her album wasn't that great so she used the shock value to get what she wanted and she succeeded. Her being considered the "reigning queen" of the music business currently caused the album to explode. And when the album was cooling down, now she is heating it up again by using controversial remixes using Kanye, Nicki and next is Rihanna. Mariah, trying to do the same was not going to work eitherways (like you already mentioned). I am not saying that Mariah should throw caution to the wind, write average songs and ride on gimmicks to get success. Beyonce is an entertainer, she can afford to release average songs and then take it to the top with her performances, because she can dance her way to the top. What makes Mariah famous is her voice, her song writing, so she needs to be seen out, singing her songs, in a convincing manner, and talking about what the album means to her, like she used to do before.

Bro, wouldn't hurt you to be nice. If you hate what you read, just simply move on from the message. The whole "the album is for the fans" point is invalid. A record label won't release an album "just for the fans". I didn't call her names. If you don't find it annoying and disrespectful that Mariah no longer addresses her fans, it's fine, must be great to be you. Just because I am (as you so nicely put it) "whining" doesn't make me any less of a fan than you. We all react to situations differently. I did not have one single complaint about the content of the album, Mariah was and always will be way above everyone when it comes to her songs. But excuse me if I find it annoying that she won't save her own hard work. A good 4 years worth of work. So no, please don't tell me how I should feel about it. You have your opinions, I have mine. I'll respect yours as long as you don't imply my posts are "whiny".

What's going on? (46,069) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
So Beyonce is hiring one big name (and when I say big name, I mean currently popular) after the other for the remixes of her songs from the already widely popular album "Beyonce". Her album broke and set new records, she is on her second tour while dealing with this album (the first being when she was recording it) and oh-hello there she has a kid too and yet she is putting in effort to promote it and going all out on it. Really, as a fan of Mariah, I can't help but be more disappointed. Seriously Mariah where on earth are the music videos? No promotions at all? This isn't 1990s, just the name won't send the album up the charts. Heck even in 2005 she had to work hard to get the album out there. And please don't bother with the she has her priorities changed and she is a mom now. A lot of mega superstars are parents and they are doing just fine. Forget the superstars, regular people are juggling jobs, family crisis, financial problems and all and yet managing to keep their heads above water. And to add to all these, she is not addressing the fans even yet. What is going on? If there is a problem why not just tell the fans. Fine don't say what the problem is, just come out and say something, anything. I am sick of singles being announced and then forgotten, videos being made and abandoned and the sound of crickets from Mariah's side.

I was initially one of those people hating Ariana because she was trying too hard to be the new Mariah, so much so that her songs could be mistaken for Mariah songs. (I am in no way saying the vocals are of same level, just saying the usual whistles the oohs and and touches that Mariah puts in her songs were copied to the max.) However I will agree she is the most deserving of success out of all the other "singers" currently dominating the charts. She has a good voice, something we can't say of the majority of people currently popular. I am glad to see that for her second album, Ariana's songs are very different from that of Mariah's. I enjoyed both Break Free and Problem.

b3nP123 (45,990) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Hey, well the reason Mariah is solo on the two tracks in the album and has featured artists in the videos is because the videos were part of the promotional campaign for the remix album Angels Advocate and not for Memoirs. Angels Advocate was a remix album for Memoirs with almost all except 2 or 3 tracks getting the remix treatment with a featured artist like Nicki Minaj, Ne-Yo, R Kelly and so on. Infact the remixes included in Chanteuse are discarded ones from Angels Advocate. The remix album was however abandoned and Mariah chose to instead release MCIIY. She was supposed to release 2 different remix albums in 2010, one being "Angels Advocate" (with guests) and another called "MC vs JS" which had tracks of Memoirs remixed by Jump Smokers. Hope that helps.

Mariah in real husbands of Hollywood? (45,971) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I just read somewhere she will be appearing on the show. Finally. They mentioned her a lot of times on the show. I am excited to see how it goes down. Robin Thicke's wife came, and the wives of all the other cast members come, except for Nick's. Excited.

Memoirs (45,949) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I know many fans don't like it but I absolutely love Memoirs. I don't skip a single track on it. The love songs are so cute and mushy. I love everything about the album. Even the much criticized album cover. MC said that the album cover was made to reflect the different emotions in the songs of the album so "each Mariah" on the cover had a different expression. And I loved that she recreated the old photos as promo shots. Memoirs is easily in my top 3 album. Sometimes also my number 1 (but that keeps changing).

Translations (45,943) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Wow I just read the interview and it's full of errors. Looks like the writer just has been simultaneously going through his notes of the MC interview and reading up Beyoncé's interview. In addition to the mistakes pointed out by MimiLamb and the webmaster (the album sales mistake was hilarious), another mistake is the name of the first studio album of Mariah. If this is the case I take back my previous statement where I said why is Mariah lying and copying Beyoncé's interview about keeping the demos and not re-recording them. It is now clear that the fault was not from Mariah's said. I wrote that post before reading the interview and because I read the post where someone mentioned it. Sorry MC.

Sinus infection / Nick (45,932) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
PJW for some reason I didn't buy that either. And about the vocals being straight from demo, I don't believe it either. MC seems to be taking a lot of stuff out of Beyonce's interviews where she talked about her album "Beyonce". She also said that she kept vocals from the demo and we all know Mariah tried to pull a "semi-Beyonce" when releasing MIAM which backfired. Before I piss of people, I want to clarify I am aware that Mariah's album strategy was not exact copy hence "semi-Beyonce" due to the fact that she too thought that dropping the album at once will make it successful. Mariah, why lie at all? She went to the studio a million times to record and re-record, it's all up on twitter. Secondly, Christine, when I saw the interview it looked like Mariah quite blatantly ignored Nick in it (now I am not saying she did it without reason, Nick did give her plenty to be pissed about, like the ex-girlfriend scandal and the explicit sex life details). But yes, it seemed like Mariah was kind of not looking at Nick and I don't know if you noticed, but there was a point where Nick was trying to take Roc from Mariah and she just completely walked passed him without one glance. Throughout the song there are many times I caught Nick looking at Mariah and at some points the dude looked confused as to what his role exactly is in the video since him being there was almost pointless. There was no interaction between the two. They could have just not included him to avoid the awkward video.

I think it's great that you are able to always hold on to positive things even amidst a cloud of negative things. Not many of us can do that. I hope you understand that my post was not a diss, it was just my opinions and my reasons as to why I sided with JD. But yes, you are right, we all should remember what MC means to us. Trust me when I say this, I love the woman way too much. But some things she does also bothers me. That's all. Love and peace.

Adam (45,903) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
"Disrespected", that's exactly the word I was looking for but at the time I wrote my post I messed up. You are right, it's disrespectful to the fans that Mariah is all over twitter and instagram and even facebook, posting pictures randomly "in the pool", "in the tub", "at the subway" and all that but not a post about what the fans really wanted to know. She is one of those celebrities who is always on social media. But yet, it was JD who was posting about Mariah's work in his twitter and facebook. People go on saying JD wasn't promoting her properly and that he doesn't know what to do, however in my opinion JD was doing the best he could without having to force MC to go out and promote the album when she clearly didn't want to do it. JD was all over social media, he was on the radio, he was in magazine articles and on TV, on the red carpet talking about the album. That's the most he can do if Mariah refuses to step out and talk. Then the accusation that JD took MC to sing for a dictator, seriously? If MC wasn't aware of the situation then why not believe that JD didn't know about it too? Mariah would never perform anywhere she doesn't want to. I am not saying she willingly performed for them, I am saying if she misunderstood the situation, chances are that JD didn't know about it too. People loved MC because they could relate to her, she felt like a friend, now she has distanced herself so much, fans are finding it hard to connect.
(Wednesday 6 August 2014; 21:03)
MimiLamb (45,893) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
I know you were probably giving a general remark in your post about JD and I applaud your ability to always see the good in every situation. Despite you talking in general terms, I wanted to give my opinion on why I somewhat "sided" with JD this time. Like you said, there is no official statement but the news is already out and that's what people are reading. People will see the news and draw the conclusion that JD was dumped as MC thought he was responsible for the failure. At this point I would be surprised if MC issues a statement regarding this because lately she hardly makes any statement or even addresses the fans. Everytime there is a chaos outbreak from the fans, JD was sent out to take the hit (and heat) and he was the one trying to calm fans down with hope by telling them to wait. He was the one whom fans bashed continuously to the point of saying he is piggybacking on MC for his own benefit. Why make such accusations? For all we know he did his work out of love for MC. He was attacked until he finally snapped at a fan for being too disrespectful. Not once did MC come out to calm the fans down or ask them to leave JD alone. This time also JD released the statement saying he has no bad feelings towards MC and will continue to make music with her. Which was a very polite thing to do. He is acknowledging the situation unlike MC. Now it may be the case that he is in reality pissed but chooses not to make a public scandal out of it. He is nice enough to make a statement. What really pisses me off is that all throughout this era Mariah has been doing a great job of remaining "elusive". She doesn't address the fans, she doesn't respond to their questions, she doesn't make any proper statement about anything at all whereas she is always on social media. I think JD has talked about he album more that Mariah did herself. Basically no one is trying to make Mariah look bad but Mariah should also make an effort to not let JD take all the heat about the flop, shouldn't remain quite and let people draw conclusions. All the news about her firing JD just looks like JD is an incapable manager whereas it may be the case that it simply isn't easy to handle the legendary Mariah Carey. No, I will not stop listening to her music and no I don't hate her now but yes I am upset with how she has been handling all the recent mess and not addressing her fans directly.
