About RadChad from United States: Mariah is my favorite singer of all time.

The Truth (45,469) by RadChad from United States
Your post about Madonna is true, but that seems to be more of the exception than the rule. I can't speak for other regions, but I know I hardly ever hear Mariah's new music on radio and that's a huge problem as far as garnering the general public's attention. She needs radio and that's what has been the major issue since Obsessed and #Beautiful from my observation.

The state of Mariah (45,313) by RadChad from United States
When I first became an official Mariah fan in 95, I was completely unaware of how commercially successful she was. For some reason I was under the impression that I was the only person that liked her and she was struggling in album sales, primarily because of her Grammies lost that year. Having said that her album sales will never affect my love for her music, I've noticed that many people jump on bandwagons, if the public likes it then they like it or they deem it a great album based on sales and not quality of music which is a sad thing. This could also be the problem with MC's fan base. Instead of supporting her, they sit around and wait for other people to support her so that they can jump on the moving wagon. I personally feel like Mariah has done a fair share of promotion for this album, there has been people with much less promotion that has done better and much more promotion that has done worse. It doesn't make sense to spread yourself thin if the public or industry isn't supporting your efforts. It's up to all her fans over the world to check for her and support the music if they love it.

Nodules removal (44,827) by RadChad from United States
PJW, it's funny. I've actually had this discussion with a good friend late last month and like Edward said, I believe Mariah's just afraid to go under the knife. She's learned how to sing around the nodules all her life (she's had them since childhood), and in many early interviews cited that they've actually contributed to her voice/worked as an advantage (whistle register and lower huskier register). Which is why I believe she doesn't want to risk the surgery because she doesn't know what it means for her voice. Obviously they've gotten to a point where they work more as a disadvantage now, so I agree that something has to give. Mariah is aware of how sensitive her voice is, so if she's serious about reclaiming its full glory; she should do her part first by avoiding certain things that'll have adverse affects on it. Otherwise bow out gracefully, because the struggle to sing live is becoming more obvious and frequent. Someone mentioned that many singers have undergone the surgery which is more advanced now, but at the same time we don't know how bad Mariah's are or how risky it would be. I'm hoping for MC to do her part and believing in God to do the rest (a miracle). Her voice is here to bless people, but you can't abuse God's gift for too long and expect it to not be taken away. One another note, did anybody hear the rumour that she actually did secretly undergo the surgery in '97 and what we're hearing now is actually the result of that?

Stevie's not singing on MILG (44,531) by RadChad from United States
It's actually Brian Micheal Cox that's singing the background on MILG. I believe they wanted Stevie to sing on it when they were creating the song which is why he emulated Stevie's sound.

This album has two legs to bank on (44,493) by RadChad from United States
There's two songs that can turn this album around imo. YDKWTD and Meteorite. If MC and the label give these two songs the international single treatment with great conceptual videos to go along with them (please God), then I believe not only will they be huge worldwide hits, but they will also give this album some legs. It's a matter of playing the cards right.

Me. I Am Phenoninal (44,030) by RadChad from United States
So many great songs with life and soul to them on this masterpiece. This is an album that we all should be able to connect with and sink our teeth into for a long time. "Make It Look Good" is exactly what I wanted from Mariah for a long time; a the standout track from the energy of the musicality, production, and perfect vocal delivery. I swear I hear Stevie singing in the background in the chorus singing "Make it look goood" (somebody check the credits on that). The emotion she envokes into "Cry" is mind blowing, by far her most soulful song to date. While the chorus to Dedicated, Meteorite, YDKWYD all wins the "most catchy stone groove" award. The whole album is great I love every song. Am I the only one that hear the same trumpet sound from "Do You Think Of Me" in "Dedicated"? And for some reason "YDKWYD" puts me in the mind of "I've Been Thinking About You" from Music Box. I'm glad Mariah has managed to turn doubters into believer, haters into lovers, and shock us all with this amazing album. A+

Meeting Mariah (42,295) by RadChad from United States
Special K, I literally busted out laughing when reading your post about meeting Mariah. I totally visualized that whole scenario playing out in my head, sounds like classic Mariah to me. Haha. Awesome story btw. Honestly, I'm not sure how I would react when meeting Mariah. I could see myself either being as cool as cucumber or having one of those in awe moments where I can't speak at all (would hate that btw). At any event, it's been ultimate lifetime dream to meet this women for decades now. I'm looking forward to it becoming a reality soon enough.

Favorite / least favorite covers (42,249) by RadChad from United States
Favorite album covers: Emotions and TEOM toss up. Emotions was high energy album so being caught in a throwing her hair back moment was very fitting. TEOM: The cover says it all she was ready to reclaim her throne and that she did.
Least favorite album cover: Rainbow and Memoirs. She looked gorgeous and perfect like a doll, but I thought it was oversexualized (booty cheeks) and a tid bit tacky at the time. Lol. It's pretty modest by today's standards though. Memoirs: Would've been cute if it was only the middle picture and she wore a more stylish longer form-fitting satin white dress with angle wings and a halo. Lol.

Should've been singles (42,248) by RadChad from United States
Mariah Carey: Vanishing
Emotions: To Be Around You: Would've been a perfect closing single.
Music Box: The right choices were made even though the whole album is a gem.
Merry Christmas: All good choices again whole album an epic gem.
Daydream: Personally would've loved to have seen a video for Long Ago, but the right choices were made.
Butterfly: I wish Butterfly and Breakdown would've been properly released and promoted, she would've been at 20 now.
Rainbow: Bliss, I envison her walking through a tropical rainforest much like the cover of "Can't Take That Away" with butterflies, rainbows, and unicorns greeting her as she becomes one with natural. Lol.
Glitter: Didn't Mean To Turn You On with an epic 80's style throwback video, would've turned that album around even though the real fans know it was epic in the first place.
Charmbraclet: The One and Subtle Invitation would've been nice to see a video for and hear on radio.
TEOM: Great choices, but Mine Again and Circles would've just had this album at 20 million by now.
E=MC2: Migrate ofcourse, was actually looking forward to a video and all.
Memoirs: Betcha Gon Know, Inseparable, It's A Wrap, and Candy Bling would've turn this album around. So slept on imo.
Merry Christmas II You: I just want to see her do a video for The First Noel consumed with Roc and Roe moments, I've always felt like this song has a huge spirtual connection with them.

Tiina (42,110) by RadChad from United States
The difference between Mariah and Ariana is, Mariah has always displayed actual artistry, writes her own music, and has created her own sound. Of course everyone is inspired, but with inspiration you're supposed to create something unique, different, that's your own without completely ripping some else's style off. Nothing's wrong with sampling, borrowing, or remaking songs, there just need to be authenticity to it or your artistry has to transcend. I think Ariana's label did her a great disservice when they admittedly ripped the early Mariah sound with her, because now people won't know who she is as an artist and what she has to offer besides emulating her idol. This wasn't the case with Mariah's debut; people compared her to Whitney then once her album came out the talent and artistry transcended everything. Like I said I actually like Ariana and wish her the best, but the general public got bored with the mini Mariah lite campaign really fast. She needs to break free and find her own lane. Spread her wings and come into her own as an artist before she can be taken seriously as a contender.

Influenced copycat (42,105) by RadChad from United States
I just want to point out that there's a difference between being inspired by another artist and being a copycat. Mariah was never that latter IMO. Though her label pinned her against Whitney and she was inspired by Minnie Riperton's whistle register, she has always interjected originality into everything she ever did and has always been an authentic artist and creative force. I actually love when I hear Mariah's influence in other female artists, because it show that her legacy will live on and on regardless of how her career ends up. In regards to Ariana Grande, she has a cute voice and I would like to see her go far, but I am a little taken back that lambs have gotten to the point where they are comparing her to Mariah as if she could replace or match her. We must remember Mariah is often imitated, but never duplicated. Lol.

Debates and disagree (42,014) by RadChad from United States
I feel that it's okay to disagree with someone else's opinion on a matter as long as it doesn't become a childish or desrespectful moment. It's a messageboard we're going to debate, nothing necessarily wrong in that itself. Also I see nothing wrong and giving an opinion on another artist as it concerns Mariah. Now if we were randomly discussing JT for no good Mariah related reason at all then I could see the issue. Respect in general is the real on going issue here for some individuals.

Kenny (41,988) by RadChad from United States
I 100% agree with you about JT. He's never been the strongest vocalist, I've always thought JC Chasez had the better voice in N'Sync. The only reason Justin was the breakout star is because he's charismatic, worked with the best producers, can really dance, has a decent voice, and is considered attractive. In other words he has the X factor or star quality. I really have no desire to hear him sing with MC. For some reason he seems like an opportunist to me. Even though I am over the whole drama with Janet and how her left MC hanging in 01. There's just something disingenuous about him.

BET performance (41,711) by RadChad from United States
I loved it. I won't dispute whether it was live or lipped because I truly couldn't tell, the vocals did sound raw and different from the single version though. Anyway, I love the production more than the actual video itself. I think she should've incorporated the piano theme and those background clips in the video to add to the storyline; that would've been great and made more sense. I hope this and radio adds helps the song get more attention, I just read an article saying it slipped out of the top 1000 on iTunes. Not sure how true it is, but I'm still hopeful for a huge leap.

Relevancy (41,531) by RadChad from United States
I adore "You're Mine" and hope it picks up steam on radio and iTunes. But with her next single Mariah needs to drop something aggressive and energetic that's going to catch people off guard like she did with "Emotions", "Fantasy", "Honey", and "Obsessed". She just needs that song that's going to stop people in their tracks, and make them ask "Is that Mariah?" I know for a fact she has it in her to still have that affect. I believe Mariah's in full control of how relevant she can be in today's market.

Radio (41,394) by RadChad from United States
Bottom line is, she needs radio to back her up. You can't really have a hit these days without airplay. I believe this is the reason why many of her singles haven't done well lately. Once a women reaches Mariah's age in the industry, staying on top is more of a challenge because of the age bias. I won't even get into my theory of the industry not wanting her to break The Beatles' record conspiracy. If she gets the airplay she deserves, this song will become at least a top 15 if not top 5 hit. Regardless of this songs' fate, I love it, listened to it on repeat for 15 mins straight when I was on the treadmill the other day and about to listen to it God knows how many more times after this. Mariah please don't delay this album anymore, just drop it in May like you have planned and let it do what its gonna do. I know it will at least go gold regardless of the promotion or hit singles.

Correction (41,254) by RadChad from United States
We all know a great video can be important for a song these days with YouTube streams counting towards its success. In addition to great music (which I believe she has on this album), she needs the right videos and radio on her side and I'm sure she could easily top the charts again.

"Throwing Nick under the bus" (41,252) by RadChad from United States
The thing we all have to remember that Mariah is married to a comedian. Just as Nick feels he has license to joke about their private life, Mariah as his wife also has liscence to joke and say the things she does in response. I seriously doubt Nick is bothered by or take to heart the way Mariah talks about him in interviews. I'm sure it's just the nature of their relationship, it works for them, and Nick actually likes it/finds it hilarious. On another note, I actually still enjoy her crazy interviews, yes she should work on answering questions more straight on without a bunch of unnecessary detail, but she's still engaging and entertaining to watch nonetheless.
I still love how festive she is and thought it was cute/hilarious when she spoke about how Roc and Roe sings "I can't seem to..." back to her. That has to be awesome for your youngsters to find you new song naturally catchy.

So much to discuss: Mariah's media frenzy (41,250) by RadChad from United States
I'll start with the video. I thought it was beautifully and very tastefully shot. As a future director and visionary, I agree with Mariah herself, I would've gotten more beautiful shots of the rainforest. I also would've also had MC work the forest a bit more, dramatically strut down a trail, possibly sit in a tree (with over the top precaution ofcourse) the list goes on. I also agree with the person that stated the butterfly wings should've been larger, and I would've like to have seen her take off (I know dangerous, but with extreme caution). That's just me though. I really hope to work with Mariah ASAP, I would definitely take her natural essence and extended it to another level. I do hope the remix video has more of a storyline. I was hoping she would do videos that all connect together in a storyline this era (like ILT and WBT). At this point we're all aware that having a great video could do wonders for video nowadays with YouTube.

Mariah Daily Journal: all positive (41,069) by RadChad from United States
I actually appreciated the fact that everything was positive on MDJ. Sometimes as a fan I would just wanted to go to a fan-site where there's no negativity or bad reviews and just be updated and informed on everything Mariah. Nothing's wrong with that at all. That worked for them IMO. That's why this site was a good balance for MDJ. I appreciate both MCA and MDJ for what they've offered.

Happier note (41,055) by RadChad from United States
I love what I've heard from Mariah's performance of the new song (at the BET Honors). I think this album will be everything we could want from her this era. The voice sounds gorgeous and I love the sultry "Jessica Rabbit" look. The twins were on full display, but so what, she still looked hot and classy at the same time. I can't wait to see this performance, it looks like she was in full diva mode and feeling herself. I love it, bring it Mimi! Lol.

The end of Mariah Daily Journal (41,054) by RadChad from United States
I'm completely sadden and disappointed by the discontinuation of MDJ. It was probably the first fan site I discovered (in the early 00s) and I loved everything about it to the excellent picture archive dating all the way back to the very beginning of Mariah's career, to the weekly updates on album sales and chart positions. I've always felt like this site (MCA) and MDJ completed each other, because one was more informational (MDJ) and the other was more interactive (MCA). I really hope someone takes it over and keeps it going, because along with this site it was definitely a "go to site" for me as a fan and I was truly looking forward to it for this era.

Elena / Memoirs (40,970) by RadChad from United States
Right! Betcha Gon Know was too epic and an obvious single choice. I remember during the first week of release it was the most downloaded song from the album, which was a sure sign. IDJ really have been dropping the ball promotion and single choice wise since E=MC2.

Danci (40,953) by RadChad from United States
Am I the only one that misses Mimi doing choreography in her videos? I'm sure people may have told her she couldn't dance or whatnot, but I actually enjoyed seeing her dance and wish she would've stuck with it. I didn't think Beyonce was the most polish dancer at first, but look at her now. All it would've taken was a little work and consistency and she would probably be tearing the stage up every now and again. Lol. So my wish for this new era is for Mimi to do a little choreo in her videos again. Nothing too heavy, just some nice hand movements, a two step here, and a strut there would be cute to see.
