JD as MC's manager (113,717)
by Lighty from China
| |
|
|
I still remember for a very long time people on this board have been saying JD's production is old and tiresome and now you're indicating if he had produced some tracks on Caution it would've become a bigger album? No it wouldn't dear Bobby A. Caution is a very cohesive piece of work and got rave reviews on its own. Had JD produced something they would've become WBT part 678910 and do you really want those?
And about the JD/Teddy Riley thing, what is your source? I've never heard of Teddy Riley remotely connected with Mariah [except] for the Crybaby sample and The One So So Def Remix sample. If there's some news out there please let me be informed.

JD as MC's manager (113,711)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
I'm just thinking that JD wanted Teddy Riley to produce some tracks on MIAM and MC said no. The Teddy Riley conversation was probably the first manager incident that caused some friction between JD and MC. I just wonder if their relationship has truly been the same after JD walked away as MC's manager. Caution could been bigger if JD had produced at least three songs on Caution. His absence from the recording sessions could explain why Caution only had 10 songs.

The entire ensemble screams "Emancipation of Mimi". She appears cool, relaxed, and stylish while maintaining her fashionable look. If only her singing voice matched this awesome appearance. Please, take a long enough break, rest, and relax dahhling.

Rerelease the album with bonus tracks: 1. Loverboy (Firecracker Original Version) 2. Out Here On My Own 3. Lilies Blues (Mariah was the one singing the child part so I'm sure she sang the whole song too) If her vocals are in good form, then do a live studio performance of Lead The Way or even Glitter Unplugged. We never got to see her perform full version of Never Too Far, Reflections, Didn't Mean To Turn You On and All My Life. So this is the perfect time to do it.

Memoirs is seeing a huge surge on Spotify this year because Kesha performed Obsessed. So, I was thinking that Def Jam should be thinking about dropping MC's Angel's Advocate remix album on the same day as the Glitter anniversary release. Furthermore, MC's catalogue has five releases that remain on every Lambs' mind in 2026 to be released.
1 Gliiter- vinyl 2. Somebody's Ugly Daughter 3. Angels Advocate 4. The demo tape 5. Yours ft. Justin Timberlake

Honey is one of MC's best videos she has ever made. I am surprised that we haven't received a making the Honey video featurette yet. Actually that would be nice for MC to drop some making the video featurettes with the director's commentary on her Youtube channel once month. It couldn't be too difficult for her to create the featurettes and surprise the Lambs each month.
Here are my top 5 video featurettes: 1. Honey 2. Shake It Off 3. A No No 4. Boy (I Need You) 5. Get Your Number

Glitter wasn't the right movie for MC because she didn't need her first movie to be similar to her life. MC needed a comedy like Madonna's Desperately Seeking Susan. MC's acting skills are better in comedies. Can we honestly say Glitter is now a cult film for the many reasons why it is such a love/hate movie?

Glitter - my wish for MC in 2026 (113,502)
by TheButterflyReturns from United States

|
|
The film had such a limited release due to Mariah's health problems in 2001 that I think very few people saw it. So I don't really trust the reviews entirely. I don't think it's great film by any stretch, but it's certainly on par with "Mahogany" or "The Bodyguard" as a vehicle for a recording artist branching out into the movies. Both of those films rece. It plays like a popcorn film, not a film that would be in the running for an Best Picture Oscar or Golden Globe.
I think the critics were out to get Mariah because she had been so successful as a recording artist in the 1990s and because people are generally skeptical of recording artists branching out in the movies and vice versa. There were a lot of factors and delays working against Mariah. Remember, "Heartbreaker" was supposed to be the lead single rather than "Loverboy", and "Loverboy" was further delayed due to the sabotage.

Lame photos? (113,492)
by Lighty from China
| |
|

The NII cover art isn't lame to me, it's just mediocre but at least a gorgeous new picture. Remember when the Fantasy single cover cropped into the Daydream album cover, or when the I Still Believe single shared the same cover with the Around the World DVD? Those were great photoshoots but just lazy work.

Lame photos? (113,485)
by Matty from Vancouver Canada
| |
|
|
I've got to ask: why does MC choose lame photos for some of her singles cover art like she did for Nothing is Impossible? She's got better, more electric photos on her social media. She's done it with Shake it Off, It's Like That was unreal and unexpected, With You was so unique and gave Someday vibes. But then we have Its a Wrap, CryBaby, and I Don't as examples of lame. Literally just smash one of her recent insta photos on the single art work and run with it, she's gorgeous and everyone knows how funny she can be. Use that sparkle and glitter girl, not lame emotionless head shots that tell me nothing about the song.

My wish for MC in 2026 (113,463)
by Stacey from USA

I'm a real fan and would like to hear it one day, but I'm not waiting with baited breath either. My point is she had a real chance to include it by surprise coinciding with Daydream's 30th anniversary as a 2 or 3 CD set, much like she did with Music Box 30th anniversary. The rumors of SUD have been floating around for years and to release something without any warning would landed stronger than just releasing it by itself. The moment has deflated. It's almost a who cares moment and this point.

She missed her chance to really shock us with Someone's Ugly Daughter. She should have included that with Daydream's 30th release out of nowhere. Oh wait, we didn't get a 30th anniversary release of Daydream. How cool would that have been by dropping the album unannounced as part of Daydream's anniversary (much like she did with Music Box), then appeared on Fallon like she did with everyone already having the album. Yeah, I'm curious to hear it but the balloon has been deflated. I'm indifferent at this point. Thoughts?

Someone on this board (I don't remember who, sorry) used to tell me The Rarities was the alleged Daydream 25 because there were no leftover songs other than One Night, disc 2 was the Daydream Tour Tokyo Dome live recording, and the album release date was October 2 (Daydream was released in US on October 3). And I was like What? Really? You opened my eyes. He/she thought it was sarcasm. It was not. Now that I think of it, it really made sense. So maybe Daydream 30 was never gonna happen, and SUD is the only thing we could be expecting.

That Variety interview was so dry. You could tell the interviewer had done their homework and crafted some really compelling questions.
What is the deal with SUD? People have been asking about it for almost 6 years. What is it she is still working out?
What's the deal with Glitter. It's mid-March and you don't know if you're re-releasing (which makes taking it off streaming stupid) or making a deluxe? Shouldn't the factories be printing the vinyls now for a September 2026 release date?
Most importantly where the F is Daydream30?
Where is the state business woman who is supposed to be running this empire?

I love JID and it's one of the highlights of Here For It All for me. It's very well written and produced. I wish MC would at least be nominated for the Gospel category. I think she should work with Kirk Franklin and see what they can make together. A full length gospel album is long overdue, but sadly I don't think MC has the vocals for that unless she gets her voice back. I definitely think a gospel album would do well and help her career.

MC's next album (113,251)
by Bobby A from United States
| |
|
|
Do you think MC's next album will have to be her most personal album to date? I think MC needs to create a body of work that has a bold relatable album title that makes the non-Lamb scrolling on social media say, "Hmmm?" The album has to read like a personal diary with an infusion of jazz, pop, dance, and R&B. I want to hear more of the good, the bad, and the ugly next time. MC is going have to make a bold personal statement with her next album like Jill Scott did today.

Mariah opens the ceremony (113,214)
by Lighty from China
| |
|
|
Her voice was in the worst shape it could be during LA Pride 2023 but the setlist was fire and she was really feeling herself on stage, so I said to myself if Mariah's happy then I'm ok with it.
She started lipping VOL in the Celebration of Mimi 2024 residency but she was still having some cute ad-lib moments here and there so I made peace with it.
She looked really unhappy and sad during that Make It Happen performance in Aruba. People wondered why and then a few months later came the news of her mother and sister's passing. Make sense.
Entering 2025, everything went downhill really quickly. Every performance was lipped and "statue-d", she was distant and uninterested and incoherent in every interview, she sounded tired in most songs on HFIA even Sugar Sweet doesn't sound so sugary and sweet. I really worried about Mariah's mental health state at the time and the only saving grace and surprise was that fully live Play That Song on Fallon although she was still nervous and stiff.
Last week, she looked happier and was more talkative at the MusiCares Gala. She was really enjoying the tributes and sang along with most of them especially the Chick songs. I genuinely thought the winter vacation had relaxed her after the Christmas and New Year shows and she was really getting better and better. And then came this Olympics performance, I'll just quote Stacey here, "That was hard to watch."
I won't say I'm disappointed because I'm really not. I'm just worried about her more and more. I don't want her to be another Britney (no offense to Britney). But as Mariah herself sang, Nothing is Impossible, I still pray for Mariah to be healthier and happier this year. I don't even care about the lipping anymore, all I wish for her is that she could be, "free enough to fly", once again.

Bill she clearly developed it later on when she lost all her magical abilities and all confidence in herself and her voice. Early Mariah performances are some of the best of all performers of the 90s I still don't know why she had that reputation early on that she wasn't good live performer when she started out. She enjoyed the stage and loved how the audiences connected with her voice. Why she still signs up for these live performances now is beyond me. Yes she is actually frightened up there now on the stage because she clearly can't fake it. Who knows what really is going on with her post Caution and why she feels the need to continue to do this. I love HFIA but albums sadly don't pay the bills anymore even more so with her sales.
