Three voices, one problem (109,526)
by Shezz from Pk
| |
|
|
That's exactly how it went according to Barbra in a recent interview. They all recorded their parts separately and then it was put together. How does that even work I sometimes try to imagine. All 3 sing all of it then their parts are picked or they just sing their assigned parts? Sounds like there's no room for any synergy of energies there.
I don't fault Mariah here at all. She did not write the lyrics, the melody, nothing. Did the best she could with her voice. I don't think this is any indication of MC16 whatsoever.
Not a bad song but it could have soared. Mariah should have been in charge of writing and producing it but I suppose with Walter in charge that was not really an option.

Three voices, one problem (109,513)
by Lee from UK

Considering this song is highly reminiscent of 90s adult contemporary music, I was expecting more. There was definitely room here for "All I Ever Wanted" style vocals from all of them. Mariah held back to her own detriment. It feels like these three were never in the same studio. It's like they all recorded their individual parts from their home studios and then emailed them to Walter A to sew together. If these three could have gotten together and arranged their vocals with each other, this could have become something special. It just feels very bland unfortunately.

Barbra's song (109,485)

Mariah sounds great with them. The production sounds a bit dated though. Is it just me or is there less of Mariah than the other two?
Clearly not a Mariah song but a pleasant surprise. She did her thing with the song she was given, wish we had more of her. Specially on the chorus. Makes me hopeful for the ballads on MC16.
In a weird way it made me appreciate TD more.

Release (109,392)
by Shezz from Pk
| |

So apparently Barbra has now released 3 singles from the album already. First with Hozier, second with Paul McCartney and third with Laufey. I suppose the Mariah and Ariana song (since you technically cant call it a duet) is the most anticipated and they didn’t want to release it before the album. I wonder if it will actually get the single treatment. Just 10 more days until we get to hear it.

Music video (109,336)

Fun video but I expected a little more. Too short for a storyline to develop. And all that hype and delay made it worse. TOTC has changed its original chart prediction to #94. I'm happy she's charting at least after no Caution singles charted.

Music video (109,323)
by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
| |
|

So I watched it twice. My thoughts and 2 cents. - The video seems to be a mix between ILT, Boy and Slave For You. - I think Mariah looked absolutely stunning in every shot, my favourite being her "Britney" look with the black smokey eyes and the Mr. Beast scene where she looked like she's straight out of TEOM era. I love the risks she took with her looks including the red lip. She looked stunning in the silver bedazzled look to but that's her usual look. - I thought JK said the video was longer than we think? But it wasn't. Or did he mean that we'll keep pausing on the boys haha. - First high budget video after a while but I think it lacked a strong storyline or I missed it. I like the different "acts" being different men but I wish there was some context and dialogues like Honey/Heartbreaker. The CGI was a bit too much for me especially the diamond one in the first act lol. I was hoping for something more like "Boy is mine" video from Ariana. - I heard there are more cameos other than Mr Beast. Which is smart to introduce her to new audience. I hope their contracts have requirements for them to post over the next few days. I'm dead at the "I don't know him". - Why were the all laying on the floor in pain? - Why was she so stiff in the first act? I get being nervous on stage but she literally had full control here.

One more observation (109,335)
by Shezz from Pk
| |
|
|
1. Because she wants chart success and they control the charts, not us.
2. I think she also likes to remain "current" and "contemporary". Doesn't always translate well though with the audience. If any of the younger artists released TD it'd shoot straight to the top.
3. Part of her whole "eternally 12" shtick.
I still can't believe she's done a grown ass ballad with Barbra. So intrigued to hear how she sounds there with her current voice. That even next to Barbra and Ariana.

Ya hope they learned from the past eras what worked and what didn't. I really hope some TikTokers turn T-Dang viral. I see Sabrina's song Manchild dances and Manchild sing alongs to the "stupid, slow, useless" lines all over. Also Sabrina is clearly had a deal with Spotify because every time I finish playing T-Dang, Sabrina's new song comes up on autoplay. I wish Mariah would cut a deal and do the same. Play the game.

True. A ballad only works now if it is a home run ala We Belong Together. Even Adele can't get any of her ballads to chart high other than her lead singles.
I've read the duet is pop/RnB and "explosive" (of course all unconfirmed) but not sure it's a ballad. I think duets are typically ballads yes but not always. Might not be a ballad.
Plus she has a ballad with Barbra and Ariana coming in 2 weeks anyway.

by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter

I know it's premature to talk about this but I have been hearing rumours that the next single is going to be a ballad type duet with Anderson .Paak. There are a few reasons I don't think that's a good idea.
- It's the TEOM cloning all over again which tanked E=MC2 and her future releases for trying to do the same format. I think her next single should still be another uptempo song. A fresh new sound like T-Dang. It's summer so let it be fun and something people can enjoy and feel uplifted. Some catchy lyrics, a strong chorus (Sabrina Carpenter dominated summer with her clever lyrics and choruses, the "I'm working late cos I'm a singer" or the catchy chorus of Espresso, or the digs in "Taste" and "Please Please Please" to name a few). So I think her next single should be uptempo and catchy. The general public is seemingly responding well to T-Dang not just lambs which is new and we need the GP to get success.
- I honestly think if she is releasing any collaborations as singles it should be high impact and high profile collaborators that can benefit her on the charts if she really wants those #1's stacking up. Also she is possibly in a relation with him and I think it'll be sweeter to keep it as an album track than an official single.
Those are my thoughts and 2 cents.

What I don't get about the song is that she's seemingly bashing all her ex husbands and boyfriends and relenting about how awful they were, to then go on and say she's looking for somebody who's exactly that type? So she's just accepted a life a doomed romances from this point on then? Maybe go for a different type of guy if the last 20 haven't worked out. But who am I.

For the nostalgia (109,211)
by Shezz from Pk

So MC is clearly taking the [nostalgic] route here for promotion. Doubling the new era with the [Mimi] era, radio promos, It's Like That and Breakdown video references and now the Rakim rap feature on the BET performance (which was a huge step above what we've seen in the recent past). Does that mean he's on the actual remix as well? It made sense and she loves her old school rappers but I don't think a Rakim remix will be as commercially effective as one with a contemporary rapper. Still hoping for Doechii or Cardi but I know that's highly improbable. But I loved her appearances tonight and I can't wait for the video.

Type immature (109,193)
by Shezz from Pk
| |

I really really do hope she has some of those songs left in her and that they are in the album. I get her wanting to be current and wanting to go the more commercial route with her first single but I think if she wants another classic hit, she has to go for deeper songs. We Belong Together is a good example of how she blended both these sides and look how people responded to it. Whereas I do really like the song, I too yearn for more mature lyrics. Apparently the remix is on its way. I hope it's a strong feature and female.
A little nervous about how this song will sound live at the BET Awards. Id rather she do a high energy believable lip sync than a sub par live effort that'll serve as its introduction to the masses.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I've heard the brand name dropping is actually sponsored. Not just on this song, but others she has recorded too. And not just Mariah, apparently several artists engage in this. I can see it being true, or else she's just bragging about her financial status. Either way, I wouldn't categorise it as a "strong pen game" song like I would Outside, Butterfly, Languishing, Petals, Close My Eyes etc.

Promo and MV (109,172)
by Shezz from Pk
| |
|
|
I hope she's performing TD at BET and no Mimi medley though I would not mind an It's Like That to TD transition like the MC16 teaser clip.
As for the different guys in the song - either they should all be fictional or all past relationships. Would be weird for her to talk about someone from her old music video (motor cycle guy) but then computer boy toy also sounds like the TMB guy. Some say that's Nick though the forever guy sounds more like him or that could be Tanaka as well.
I also thought Tommy references now are a bit old and tired but maybe she did it because it made the verse more interesting and dramatic.
I wonder what her insta pic with the guys is about... bet maybe?
I think her MV video will definitely have a bunch of these guys in the video. She hinted at that in one of her interviews. They asked her about the guys and she said "you'll have to watch the video".
I wonder if they have a remix lined up already or are they waiting to see how it performs.
I'd be over the moon if the song just charts. What was her last single to chart? I don't think any of the Caution singles charted. Nor did I Don't and Infinity.
Was #Beauituful her last new song to chart? None of the remixes charted. She does not have the fan base for her songs to have a decent debut, at best it could work its way into top 40. Which would be big for her. TD is good but it's no Believe. Her best shot at the charts is a pop song with mass appeal.

Do we know if Mariah is scheduled to be on any tv appearances and what her promo schedule looks like? I know she'll be at the BETs but any other appearance? It looks like radio is playing a quite a bit, is this something we've seen with her last few releases or is this new? For music video, what do you guys think will be her vision. Excited for her working with Joseph so I hope there's some story line. I wonder if she'll do a parody of her previous relationships or her previous music video leads because the lyrics hint at both or I might be overthinking it. 1) The one about sing sing and evil king is of course Tommy. 2) The motorcycle man had a Yen for me. Is this a hint at Tanaka who's part Japanese and had a thing for motorcycles or is it her male lead in Sweetheart or even Miguel in #B. 3) The computer nerd has to be TMB unless I'm missing something haha. 4) The man in construction moving pounds through customs. Is it James Packer or Wentworth Miller (WBT/Prison Break because his character was a structural engineer in think in PB). Some people say the moving pounds through customs could be Tanaka too because apparently he was detained in Brazil. I haven't heard about this before though 5) "Said we'd be together, but you didn't stay forever. Now I guess it's just whatever 'til the twelfth of never." This is probably Nick because Mariah was super in love and thought it's forever and "twelfth of never" probably because he has 12 kids
So I wonder if she'll do a parody like that which would be hilarious. Or if it'll be more touching and looking at the camera hahah just joking.

No.1 in global iTunes (109,148)
by Shezz from Pk

Don't forget GTFO hit number one on iTunes as well but failed to chart. Streaming counts the most and her numbers there are still pretty low I read on another site. Though that in no way means they can't pick up. Right now the song is only hot with the lambs. It could eventually spread to the masses. So many songs creep their way up the charts as they gain a wider audience. First week numbers aren't everything.

TD press tour (109,144)
by Shezz from Pk

I noticed yesterday watching some radio interview clips - her energy and enthusiasm varies quite a bit depending on the interviewer. She was very animated and enthusiastic for a couple and totally disinterested in the others. If she knows you, has a history with you and you know about her music and black culture, she will be way more relaxed and open. Just an observation, to most of the white interviewers she was a little cold and reserved. Maybe it was just a coincidence that she was not too familiar with them. Anyone else noticed this?
I mean I don't blame her - not everyone can fake enthusiasm for small talk with strangers, but if you're out there promoting your music, wanting them to play your songs, you have to present a friendly front. Or don't go to the ones you don't feel warmly about.

by Shezz from Pk

Did anyone notice how she was gleaming and beaming at the radio launch event? She looked alive and genuinely happy to be there and so grateful and proud. Almost shed a tear seeing that after so long. And she sang along to the song without looking at any monitors.
I'd love a remix for the song. It's crying for another 30 second verse from Doecii.
Apparently the fancy car company (that she shot the cover in) whose name I can't remember posted about something coming soon with her. I'm hoping that's for the music video. Knowing Mariah she's collaborated with them.
Also, so so happy to read about the new label. They will go all out to support her and she won't pull out of her project midway through like she has previously because of these label issues. And I am happy that LA Reid is also officially guiding MC16.
She's taken her time but she's doing it right. May she get the success and respect she deserves. Proud to be a lamb.

Ok I ain't mad. I quite like it. Still processing but initial reaction was very very positive - unlike all the other singles she's released over the years. The lyric video helped me get more into it. I think it's her best lead single in a long ass while.
Mariah - get behind it and give it your all. I hope a proper video is coming soon. I feel like they haven't shot it yet. This is going to be the [It's like that] of [MC16]. The punchy re introduction to get the attention and then she'll knock us down with the WBT of this era.

Why does time go slower when we're waiting for new Mariah music? Not long to go now but feels like forever. Looking forward to hearing it fully for the first time and also hearing everyone's take on it tomorrow. Mariah is really treating us this past month with a mini anniversary release, now an unexpected MC16 and also a Walter produced song, I can't believe I actually just wrote a Walter produced song after all this time. Yes it seemed likely that this was all part of the same video teaser from the car - switching from It's Like That to T:D MC16 to show us she's switching gears (literally) from Celebration of Mimi to her MC16 era. One lead single to another. Wearing the merch. If it is in fact not the real video then she gets A+ for effort for the effort into the rollout.
Let's hope it gets a good response and she doesn't ditch it right out the blocks or worse - call it a buzz single.
At first listen I wasn't quite blown away but it soon becomes a catchy tune you can't get out of your mind. I hope it's just the outro as well. I played it for a friend - who never really liked her but was forced to listen to everything MC and grew to really like her. He said well it's nice but it's no It's Like That. Maybe she needs to work with JD again. I said nooooo. You don't know how long we've waited for her not to. I can't wait to hear it all tomorrow.

100% agreed Edward. It's so good to see all the lambs excited again for something big. This month we're going to have 2 exciting days. First on the 6th for the all weather lambs with T:D which obviously will be an uptempo banger - most probably with A. .Paak's production and writing (Bobby A is that official?) and secondly a Walter A. produced ballad for the old school lambs on the 27th. June is going to be good. It will be interesting to see which of the 2 the lambs and the general public respond more to. I've gotta say she has taken her time but planned this well. Releasing the new single right after reminding everyone of and celebrating TEOM was a smart move.

Just a suggestion: when MC16 drops, try to focus on enjoying the music instead of worrying about #1's or chart positions. That way, you're not setting yourself up to be disappointed.
Mariah's already done it all, she's a legend, and legends don't have anything to prove. The music scene isn't what it used to be, and chart success doesn't always reflect how good a song actually is. This new album might not have a massive hit, but that doesn't mean it won't have songs with hit potential. Some of her best work has never been on the radio. So let's just enjoy it for what it is.
I see MC16 as an unexpected gift. Whether or not it tops the charts, we're lucky to be getting new music from her. Let's enjoy the ride.

Based on her current voice and online rumors, I don't think this album is going to be for the 90s Mariah fans. It's going to be an upbeat pop/urban record. Though if she just did a ballad with Barbra and Ari, she probably still has it in her to include a couple of ballads. All these car snippets are intriguing. They're probably part of the concept for the first single. I don't remember her doing this for Caution. She did for Miamtec singles (Art of Letting Go and Beautiful) which she was really excited about. I can't wait to see what's happening on June 6th.

She didn't confirm it'll be released so yes it might be a teaser but something big is possibly happening on June 6th because in the DFAU remix video calendar it showed a Caution sign on June 6th. The Type: Dangerous one I saw someone posted on UKmix not sure where they got the info from.

Mimi L. did she say this Friday we’d know more about MC16 era or the single was going to be released? I think this Friday might just be the announcement - she needs to build the hype a bit. "Eric B. is president" must be sampled in the single as per the teaser. Where did you hear the "Type: Dangerous" bit?

Well well MC once again reminding us we can never count her out. I had given up hope for a new album but Mariah didn't let RA down. Excited to hear the single this Friday. I hope it's as epic as the teaser. Apparently the single or album is called Type: Dangerous. Which is intriguing. It's also what's show on her car monitor T:D MC16.

Well - it looks like the drunk / addict / washed up / has been / stroke survivor / Christmas only act still has a little more left to say to us after all.
Robert Anthony I told you not to lose hope but you kept creeping into the dark side.

Plausible. And that would explain a lot. There clearly is a major piece of the puzzle missing.

I mean they did try to Britney Spear her. There was a part in her book (page 262) where she talks about Morgan had arranged a "spa" visit but it was actually a hardcore detox and rehab center. They administered her heavy, hard narcotics. Mariah said it made her sluggish, puffy and compliant. I believe this was them inducing mental illness to her. The book "Chaos: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties" reveals the MK ultra program, where they can give you mental illness via hard drugs. You'll have no choice but to be dependent on it, then you'll just be drugged to oblivion forever. I also vividly remember Mariah saying, "when I first found out about my diagnosis, I refused to believe it" which she was right. She never had mental illness to begin with. She was purposely driven to exhaustion to be easily irate. Pat knew which buttons to press and knew anyone who hasn't slept in a week will understandably snap. They then used her lashing out as an opportunity to misdiagnose, with the goal of inducing mental illness, to control her with drugs her whole life.
I believe the mafia's desired effects have come into full bloom now. She is undoubtedly heavily depended on it; the dosage probably heightened, I would say right after NYE, when she exposed her BPD and admitted seeking "professional" help and probably even more so now, grieving Pat's death. Taking these meds is obviously a part of her pre-show ritual because she is rather sluggish and puffy. Every concert. I will categorize my assessment to be "allegedly" though, just to be marked safe. It's what I think make sense after recognizing what they've done to other pop stars and doing a deep dive in the history of Hollywood.
I wouldn't say anyone is threatening her necessarily but I will say Mariah is aware of the patterns of their financial terrorism. So many have tried to come for her money. Right now Morgan (which is not to be trusted) is suing the crap out of her over her memoir. I think she is always working hard to afford top-notched lawyers, it really does take money to win cases. There's also a chance Morgan may be backed up again by the mafia. He was already in cahoots with the record company during Mariah's first breakdown and considering how many mainstream publications picked up this case. (People, The NY Times, Daily Mail, Today, Fox News, The Sun, Page Six etc.) A PR firm that's verifiably against Mariah is blasting these articles to the masses. I have read the filings and Morgan is relentless for her money. He is very technical and somehow found a way to forward this case into trial. Mariah will actually have swear under oath pretty soon. That and she's probably preparing to have more than enough sufficient funds for her biopic. Production and talent fees are expensive. It's maybe why she's working herself to the bone.
