Mariah responds to bodyguard's injury claim

A man recently claimed one of her bodyguards left him injured after he attempted to take a selfie with her. And Mariah Carey responded to the incident when she was asked about it while leaving the restaurant The Ivy on Saturday night in West Hollywood. "I don't think that happened but I'm sorry if it did, I don't know," the 47-year-old singer said as she entered her car.

Mariah was spotted leaving the restaurant in a plunging black outfit, peep toe heels, and a leather purse on her arm. She wore her hair down in loose ringlets and accessorized with a choker necklace.

The outing comes on the same day TMZ reported that Mariah's team denied a man's claim that one of the singer's bodyguards injured him after they unjustly roughed him up when he attempted to take a selfie the singer had agreed to.

Sources close to the 47-year-old singer told TMZ on Saturday that the bodyguard's accuser, James Pablo, used a counterfeit badge to gain backstage access at her concert in San Diego, California this past Thursday at Viejas Arena on the San Diego State campus. The bodyguard - concerned that Pablo would attack the songstress after he clutched the dress the singer was wearing - removed Pablo from the area, Carey's team told the outlet.

Pablo presented a different interpretation of the events in speaking to TMZ, as he told the site that he received media credentials - including a pass affixed to a lanyard necklace he wore - prior to the concert in an effort to interview another performer taking the stage as an opening act.

Pablo said after he noticed Carey was backstage, he sought permission to snap a selfie with her, which she was fine with. When he leaned toward the One Sweet Day singer, her bodyguard grabbed the necklace he was wearing, and removed him from the premises.

Pablo told TMZ he subsequently reported what had happened to police, indicating he sought to press charges in the incident. (He showed off a number of marks he allegedly suffered in the incident to the outlet.) Police told the outlet that a probe of the incident is underway.

The singer is currently on the road with Lionel Richie on his All the Hits Tour, which runs through September 5. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight earlier this week after the tour's opening date in Oakland, California, Carey said she was invigorated to be around her fans, who she affectionately refers to as "lambs". She said, "I loved seeing the lambs come out to support and I'm so happy to be back out on the road. I had so much fun and I'm really excited for the shows ahead."
