Mariah pairs leopard print slipdress with throwback hair

Mariah Carey just stepped out in a look that can only be described as - well - so Mariah Carey. For an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the singer slipped into a throwback look that was so '90s-coded - right down to the hair.
Carey opted for a slinky leopard print slipdress with a plunging halter neck. She paired the midi dress with a chunky silver chain choker, stacked silver cuff bracelets, gold hoops, and black rectangular sunglasses. She wore black tights and black platform sandals.
The real centerpiece of the look, however, was her hair, which she wore in a half-up, half-down ultra high ponytail on the top of her head in a throwback to the styles of her Y2K years.
Carey appeared on the show to promote her new single, "Sugar Sweet", which is the second single to drop ahead of Carey’s 16th studio album Here For It All. As Carey explained on the show, the new album is her first in seven years. "Why did you make us wait so long?" asked guest host Fortune Feimster. "I don't know the answer," replied Carey. "Really I was just getting it together."
This isn't the first time Carey has ressurected an iconic hair look from her past. In December, for instance, she returned to her crimped curls of the '90s. As Carey told The Sunday Times in 2022, she had a complicated relationship to her hair growing up.
"I grew up thinking hair was supposed to look a certain way," she said. "As a mixed-race person with a Black father growing up in predominantly white neighborhoods, it was difficult. My Black friends were able to do different types of treatments on their hair from the ones who were mixed. My white friends didn’t have to do anything - they just woke up and their hair was fabulous."

She seemed more laid back and "present" last night on Jimmy Kimmel. I don't know that host, but she seemed starstruck, and honestly I can't blame her. I would have been too. Mariah didn't seem bothered by the comments about her breasts so I won't be bothered either. It's not like Britney Spears at 17 being asked about her breasts. Not the best thing to bring up in an interview but Mariah is a grown up and they're hard not to notice. (Honestly, it's the first thing I noticed.)
Sidenote: it reminded me of the Mexican music icon Juan Gabriel. Interviewers would ask him about his sexuality and he would respond, "Lo que se ve no se pregunta". (What is seen does not need to be asked.)
Anyway, I think Mariah looked really pretty. Her face looked really pretty and her body was on point. Her tan was on point. Her hair looked nice. The dress is not my favorite but I don't hate it either. Since it's more naked at the top I liked that it was longer. I love that silhouette on her. I don't love the animal print but that's just me. Apparently that's the trend again. (The Pamela Anderson/Fran Drescher in The Nanny vibes.)
My niece is starting high school this year so I took her to get her hair cut and eyebrows threaded. I've been going to this eyebrow threader for over ten years and she's very good and I trust her. I waited in the waiting area and let my niece go back there by herself. I was so surprised when she came back out with super thin (Christina Aguilera in the Dirrty video) eyebrows.
I told her the whole reason I took her there was so that she wouldn't over-pluck them like I did when I was her age. I told her if she keeps plucking them that thin, over time they won't grow back the same. She said, "Yours did." (But they didn't. I had to get the soft tap powder brows to fill in the sparse spots.) Anyway, she didn't care what I had to say and told me, "I think I can maintain the thin-brow life."
So yeah. The early 90's slightly porno look is making a comeback.
I think we all want MC to go back to the girl-next-door we initially fell in love with. But she's been Ginger for a long time now. Mary Ann is gone.

This picture sums up my thoughts on that appearance last night, $5 hooker. Who the hell styles her. She has worn some lovely stuff recently but this look is not fly. Sack the stylist.
