Mariah Carey just shared one of her old songs in light of what is going on in this country and says she wrote that track while 'languishing' in her own life, and couldn't believe how applicable it is in regards to George Floyd's murder.
The "We Belong Together" singer posted the song snippet on Instagram, along with a message to her fans about the current struggle for justice. "As the Floyd family and the world send George home, may we stay strong in the long struggle for justice so that we can all finally, fully breathe," she began.
She continued, "I wrote this song (Languishing) years ago and can't believe how applicable it is in this moment."
The track itself features the following lyrics: "I was wondering, would you reach for me if you saw that I was languishing. I was wondering would you cry for me, if I told you that I couldn't breathe. If I was drowning, suffocating. If I told you that I couldn't breathe."
Right away, Mariah's fans thanked her for posting the song, and agreed with the message being important at this moment. "Yes indeed. Scarily applicable. I love this song," one fan wrote.
Another added, "This is such a beautiful and appropriate song Mariah. Thank you for writing this song. Truly, you save lives. Was just thinking about this connection the other day. Perfectly applicable for these moments of pain and reflection."
One fans quoted Martin Luther King in response to Mariah sharing the lyrics, "The time is always right to do what is right." Most agreed with this person, "You've always been such an inspiration to me and I love the stances you've taken in your work as an activist."
