Re: Blame shady ABC and Stella (70,704) (70,719) by Sheila from United States
We blame Stella too much. Mariah when she discovered the earpiece wasn't working should have done a Whitney and dropped the mic and said "fix it".

Re: Her former managers, I blame Jermaine Dupri (70,706) (70,718) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Yes JD wasn't good at managing either. I never liked Tommy but he knew how to manage a superstar. Is it so difficult to find a manager who is nice, smart and a real professional? I mean money can't be the problem.

Re: Article: Mariah Carey team: Here's what really happened (70,696) (70,717) by Malcolm from Asia
My question is, why is that the album version of We Belong Together was the one being played? Does that mean Mariah planned to lip the whole song? If it is indeed to help her and just a back-up plan, then how can they have that already instead of just the instrumental with the pre-recorded vocals at the climax? Is it normal for every live performances? So if that's the case, they can obviously cut it right before WBT starts (and for Stella being an aggressive, I know she can go straight to the booth just to stop it) to save Mariah from embarrassment. And also why Mariah knew that it's the album version that early? It's interesting. I wish she didn't sang along to it so that it doesn't look like she's lip syncing because no matter how Mariah's team or anyone defends that it's a technical malfunction, 90% of the people already named and believed it was a lip syncing fail, and Gigi was right, this huge reaction that they don't really care for Mariah anymore is the consequence on how she was presented herself and by her team in public for this past 2 years. A great live performance and appropriate behavior is the only way she can redeem herself from it, so good luck with that Dubai Jazz Festival in February, I hope she will be prepared on it and remind Stella what is the timezone in Dubai so that she can't be late. All eyes will be on her next performance so go hard on that one.

Re: Example of delay (Michael Bolton National Anthem) (70,712) (70,716) by Gigi from USA
Thank you for all the explanations. I don't know anything about sound engineering, so I couldn't even imagine what she was experiencing. However, I was just wondering how she could hear that We Belong Together was the album version and she was able to lip sync the first couple of verses flawlessly if she couldn't hear anything at all? Not passing judgement, just wondering.

Billboard interview with Stella (70,715) by Tiina from Finland
Stella meeting Mariah was organic? How is it organic when you clearly use all of your connections to get to her? To me she sounded desperate to get hold of her. And I bet there was a lot of ass kissing involved to get into the position of the manager because that's the vibe I get from Mariah these days. You only tell her what she wants to hear and let her live in her bubble. I love her, even after the disappointing meet and greet last year, I will always worship her as an artist, but it's true, she lives in a reality of her own and to me Stella is enabling her and now possibly even pumping her up with "you're the biggest star, you're the best, you did them a favor, do not apologize, you should have thrown the mic in someone's face". I don't think that, say, about 10 years ago Mariah would have ever even for a second considered someone like Stella who has no real experience or understanding of managing someone at her level to suddenly be qualified for the job. Especially someone so, for a lack of a better word, ratchet, as they say. I hate that Stella has made Mariah a reality star. Even now Mariah still insists that reality tv is not for her. But it makes no difference that you try to call it a "docu-series" when it's clearly a reality show and a very badly scripted, boring one, for that matter. She's done an episode or two of "on the road with" type of tv episodes a while back and those where really fun and cute but Mariah's World is just awkward and fake. The only thing I like is when I see her with her kids. Same thing with these other endeavors, like I don't care about a makeup line or any of that fluff. Mariah once said that she refused to cash in on stuff like perfumes and just be the artist, the singer, songwriter, producer. I long for her to go back to that because I still care about the music. Mariah will always be my favorite female artist as far as voice and songwriting goes, she is my teacher. Her last album was very good. Her evolution in the studio has been such a wonderful journey. It's a gift to all of us other musicians in training and the world in general. But obviously music is not a priority anymore and that's sad. She likes to say it as Marissa said but it's just words. I like the fact that Mariah is branching out into films and directing and producing but why do I get the feeling Stella pushed Mariah to do these things because her real motivation was to partner with Mariah in a production company? From the get go I thought this woman just wanted a piece of Mariah's fame. Even before I learned she was her manager, I was like "Who is she? Why is this woman following her around and why is she in every picture with her? Who are these people?" You could tell they loved the attention and spotlight. Ugh.

I'm gonna need (70,714) by Hilton from USA
Our girl to hit us with some crazy, over the top, new music that silences everyone and puts the focus back on the voice and music. I really hope that this can turn around and she can keep all eyes on her but in a positive way. I do feel bad for her. Clearly there were some technical issues with her performance and I do not blame her one bit for how she handled it. She's human like the rest of us and it's so much easier to say what someone could have or should have done. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a return to form. She is the comeback kid and I still love her with every fiber of my being. Happy New Year everyone. P.S. MiMi, you're becoming one of my favorite posters on here.

Yeah, I noticed it too. I guess people streamed the video 2,029,019 on New Year's day. Perhaps, they thought it was the video to the NYE (trainwreck) performance and clicked on it.

Re: Example of delay (Michael Bolton National Anthem) (70,694) (70,712) by Jo-B Sebsky from United States
On a smaller stage and to a smaller crowd she might have been able to get away with just using her own ears, but in conditions like these you cannot hear yourself at all over the crowd and the music from the speakers, so her only indication on whether she's singing the right things is the delayed audio she gets when she hears the audience speakers. She basically was singing with deaf ears. I'd liken it to being at a noisy club where you can't even hear your own voice and end up having to yell to communicate with your friends. I've been on much smaller stages and if my monitors weren't working it was a nightmare. Even the hosts were having a hard time hearing each other, it was a mess.

Re: Mariah's only saving grace (70,688) (70,707) by Mara from United States
100% agree with this. I even tweeted Big Jim about just Mariah, his piano and a tribute to George with "One More Try" humbly dressed and maybe at the end a choir. Literally nothing they can accuse her of lipping to. She needs this raw and now. The vocals would probably even be better than her recorded version since they sounded so chipmonk like in the album. The good thing about Grammy tributes or other ones for that matter is she doesn't even have to be on stage long. It could be her, piano, a few lines and not even the full version of the song since it's a tribute and it will get the public the point. And as the op has said, George there in the background. Stella, please get this done.

Her former managers, I blame Jermaine Dupri (70,706) by T from USA
If he hadn't done such a bad job managing her in 2014 she would've never sought out Stella lol. Joke. But seriously people have been subtly, and not so subtly telling Mariah to straighten up for years now. Remember in 2015 when JD said Mariah needs to start taking her career more seriously and putting in the work that a legend needs to put in. Randy Jackson also tried to get her to focus and of course we all remember some of Walter A's concerns. I think this New Years thing was going to happen at some point, it's tragic that it was during one of her most biggest watched audience moments in the last ten years. This is one she needed to nail and it was the closest thing she would get to a "superbowl moment". It's only going to get worse from here on out I think. Tommy M was trying to shield her from all of this during the 1990's.

Re: Crustella Deville (70,703) (70,705) by RibbonB from USA
But at minimum, Crustella needs to pull out as her manager regarding the music. She doesn't know crap about the music business and she is way too unprofessional. She needs to pull out of Mariah's life full time and stick to doing the work at a safe professional distance. They are both way too co-dependent. Let her make movies, but she needs better control of her personal life and her music life. There are way too many blurred lines in her world right now and most of that is because of trying to be a camera and tabloid bound reality show artist, rather than a real artist.

Re: Blame shady ABC and Stella (70,699) (70,704) by RibbonB from USA
ABC could have stopped it, of course Mariah could have stopped it, but Stella should have stopped it. She acts like she is so bad assed, but didn't protect her client and now has blown stuff up to greater heights by defaming a whole network. MW is in need of rating, not NYRE which had a captive audience. Maybe Crustella will figure out a way to move on before she destroys her own career more than Mariah's. Mariah always needs a plan A and B and S, stop shit and just sing.

Re: Crustella Deville (70,698) (70,703) by Licia from USA
I actually agree. I know she has wanted to do things beyond music. Logically I understand her need to branch out, but the illogical fan in me just wants her to stick to what I've always known her for. I posted the article for the people who thinks that Stella getting the boot soon. This is the direction Mariah wants to go in and Stella is helping her so she's going to be around for awhile was my point.

Yeah. Even if the public loves a good redemption storyline, Mariah already had that 12 years ago, and chances for a repeat at this are getting slimmer every year. Of course, manager extraordinaire Stella isn't helping her chances at all.

Re: Example of delay (Michael Bolton National Anthem) (70,694) (70,701) by Shezz from Pk
Knowing the "perfectionist" that she is and the ego she has she probably said screw it. Plus people are all saying she should have told ABC to cut all music and production and should have gone acapella - I don't think it's that easy and straightforward a thing to do when everything is planned to the second. CNN posted an interesting related article titled "How to avoid a Mariah Carey meltdown" in which contradictory to the title the guy praises and supports Mariah but gets one thing majorly off - said she gave up and walked off stage mid performance. I don't know why these big media guys can't even do their due research. Whatever sh@t happened she stayed until the end. Did not have a meltdown and storm off.

The Stella conundrum (70,700) by this_is_qhm from the Philippines
At first I just wanted to give Stella the benefit of the doubt. Even after all the unprofessional and irresponsible actions, I still wanted to believe Mariah saw something good in her for hiring her. But after seeing how she handled Mariah's biggest debacle since Glitter, I really gave up drew the line. A fangirl does not a good manager make. Her antics are not just "ghetto" (I mean no offense, just using that for lack of a more appropriate word as I'm typing this) - they're downright barbaric. It's just as if she's yelling and cussing at everyone just to remind them and reinforce the fact that apparently she's in charge now and there's nothing we nor even Mariah herself can do. I was gonna channel all my vitriol towards her and then I remembered - oh yeah, Mariah actually hired this bitch. Again, blind leading the blind. Hope she wakes up. Soon.

Blame shady ABC not Stella (70,699) by Sheila from United States
ABC could have cut to commerical while they got Mariah's sound right. They refused. Shady hacks. Don't blame Stella, blame ABC who got it wrong. You [censored] know Whitney or Aretha would have dropped the mic and left the stage instantly. Mariah had the class to stay and take it like a champ. Again, ladies, I would have dropped the mic on the floor, turned around in my 6500 bodysuit and strutted my ass off the stage.

Re: Crustella Deville (70,695) (70,698) by Luke from United Kingdom
I do remember Mariah saying in an interview that there were other creative avenues that she wanted to explore. I'd imagine this is it. People need to stop thinking Stella has Mariah on a leash and that all this could quite possibly be a lot of Mariah's ideas.

Re: Crustella Deville (70,695) (70,697) by MusicfanJ from Germany
Oh no. Who needs this? I fear Mariah won't "let her go" soon. I said it hundred times before, this "manager" is poison for Mariah. And if it's true that Crustella said the thing about NY Times Square it's a new low. Instead of being professional and protect the artist without being rude.

Article: Mariah Carey team: Here's what really happened (70,696) by Mimi L. from Empower Your Highlighter
Stella, oh Stella. This is just making me believe more and more that Bulochnikov is probably behind the sabotage so she can get her 15 minutes of fame. Haha joking, but seriously why is she going around doing interviews though? This is her second in 2 days. Plus her attitude is so wrong with all the swearing and bad mouthing. Stella thinks only of the short term. Her brain can't process what these disputes will lead to in the long run. Mariah needs big TV channels to be on her side but of course Stella is just fine with Hallmark. About the apology part, when DCP offered to give a joint statement, Stella could have just told them to apologize in it, instead she straight up said no to it. Then talking about how Mariah is ignoring it, good Lord. Just lie if you have to and say "Mariah is heartbroken that she could not give the performance she prepared for her fans and the audience, she is sad she couldn't give the performance they deserved but she is trying to stay strong." Saying Mariah is ignoring it and Mariah is the biggest star there and Mariah did them a favor is just rude and arrogant.

Crustella Deville (70,695) by Licia from USA
She isn't going anywhere and I don't see any new music in the future. There's this article about how she and Mariah are partners and started a production company called Magic Carpet Productions. I see Mariah moving further and further away from music. Here's the article if anyone wants to read.

Example of delay (Michael Bolton National Anthem) (70,694) by John from Italy
If the delay/reverb conditions were like these, I understand it was almost impossible for her to continue. If you notice, even the small parts of "Emotions" she tries to sing, are slightly out of time. But I wonder, ignorant as I am: coudn't she follow her "inner hear", i.e. singing for what she was hearing, and follow her own tempo, ignoring the echo? The resulting audio broadcasting would be awfully out of tempo, of course, but maybe - and I say maybe - people would have blamed the technicians for this, and not her. Or maybe could it have been worse? The world would have thought that now she can't sing to the beat anymore?
